Bastille

BASTILLE IN CONCERT:Fans lucky enough to catch Bastille on their 2013/14 world tour can count their lucky stars —as one of the fastest rising groups in British music, the band's days of performing in smaller venues are certainly numbered. Boasting good looks and a winning blend of indie rock, hip hop, and synthpop, the four chaps from London have a knack for connecting with audiences at their carousing live concerts, entering the crowd to mingle with adoring fans and pose for the occasional mid-set photo op. With a string of highly anticipated US tour dates and a Coachella appearance in 2014, Bastille are well on their way to storming the American mainstream.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Bastille formed around the solo project of singer-songwriter Dan Smith, who shares his birthday with France's historic Bastille Day.

Dan Smith has the voice of an angel. He really is incredible, but I think there was an issue with his headset... he kept motioning to somebody off stage and pointing to the mic like it wasn't loud enough. I hope he knows that whatever the issue was, the crowd still thought he was amazing.

We drove from Cleveland to Pittsburgh to see Bastille. The X Fest was lots of fun! The venue was awesome and the weather was totally perfect. J Roddy Walston and the Business had some great jams and Bastille...was awesome. Second time seeing Bastille this year and would see them again and again. Dan Smith displays sheer talent from lyrics to live sound quality to engaging the audience! LOVED IT! Caught a drum stick from Highly Suspect and got a live hand squeeze from Dan Smith...swoon!

Incredible performance by Bastille - and I had very high expectations as an avid concert goer. Between Dan's amusing yet passionate dancing, the ever present drums, and incredible lyrics - seeing the band live is definitely an experience. Both Dan and Will were always holding eye contact and smiling which was very cool. Dan came into the audience during "Flaws", walking from one side to the back of the audience and across to the other. Near the end of the concert, it was obvious people in the crowd were drinking too much and girls ended up pushing to the front and obnoxiously shouting, screeching, and sloshing their drinks around (at one point resting their arms on my head). It wasn't the worst crowd atmosphere I'd encountered, and definitely did not ruin the concert!

BASTILLE was absolutely amazing! His incredible voice on the albums definitely translates over to his live and very vivacious performances. He was humble in that he thanked the crowd so many times, but we should really have been thanking him for letting us listen to his astounding voice!!!

After seeing Bastille at Music Hall of Williamsburg last fall, I knew I had to see them again the next time they were in the area. I was fortunate enough to get tickets when they went on sale through Ticketmaster, and did not have to sacrifice my first born to the secondary ticket market, as many other people who were waiting to get in did. A friend of mine flew in to see them, and we met up with people that I knew from the MHoW Bastille show. The Venue: I've been to Webster Hall before (Bombay Bicycle Club, Japandroids, and a few other shows), and really enjoy the venue - it's a great space with a bar in the back and on house right, as well as a bar upstairs (if I recall correctly). Also, love the coat check downstairs (best $4 you'll spend; makes dancing around much easier). Given how cold it was out, they let people into the Sports Bar while everyone waited for house open. I was not one of those people, but waiting out in the cold wasn't too bad. The Crowd: This time around, the crowd was a bit older (maybe it was the midweek show), which was nice; not as many screaming teens. Everyone seemed really excited, and there were only a few instances of the "let me push through to find my 'friend'," which, again, I think the older crowd was a factor. The Band: Ah yes, the reason why everyone was there. The opener, Grizfolk, was pretty good. I only heard one of their songs previously, but it wasn't bad. And then, BASTILLE. Now, I'm not one to fangirl, but there is something about them that brings the fangirl out of everyone. Maybe it's their good looks, or their talent, or their English charm - I think it's a combination of all of that. Dan Smith writes beautiful songs, which sound just as good acoustic as they do with a full band; and are so moving live. They play as though they are having a lot of fun, and as if it could be their last performance, as in they seem to fully realize that the attention they're receiving could be a flash in the pan. Hopefully, it won't be. The set was extremely high energy, and those who have seen them before, or watched videos of their live performances were waiting anxiously for "Flaws," where Dan comes down and sings as he walks through the crowd (and sometimes stumbles as he climbs back onstage). I think they're getting used to playing live, as they seemed much more relaxed and comfortable on stage. Additions to their set from their last time they were in NYC included "The Draw," which can be found on All This Bad Blood. It has a darker, harder, more guitar heavy sound that works so well. My only complaint is that it went by too fast. If it were possible for Bastille to play every song they have, including all the covers, I would be in heaven. They, however, would probably be beyond exhausted.

Dan Smith's songwriting is impeccable. Thoughtful and heartfelt lyrics alongside melodic rhythms make for unforgettable music. His songwriting rivals that of Chris Martin and Ryan Tedder. BΔSTILLE awes and amazes as they perform just as well live as they do in the studio. I'd pay twice what I did to see them again and I'm not at all surprised that this show sold out in 10 minutes!

I have gone to a lot of concerts and for some reason, this one felt more crowded/packed than normal. Band was amazing but the crowd was over-excited or something. lol At one point the lead singer jumped into the crowd and it was like the running of the bulls. Every girl was screaming and surging forward. Good for him, bad for the rest of us. Again Bastille performed brilliantly and you could tell they felt how excited everyone was. They were very appreciative of the crowd which goes a long way for me.

Bastille played an amazing set at the Royale. The energy was incredible and the crowd and venue great. Dan came out into the crowd during his signature Flaws performance which was truly an experience. Bastille is hard at work touring at a pace unknown to man and their enthusiasm remains high. I can't wait to see them again. I fear the next time I get the chance it will be at some massive venue and Dan will be hundreds of feet away instead of the inches I got to experience.

okay so i normally don't write concert reviews but this one seemed absolutely necessary to write a review for. bastille was INCREDIBLE! this was my second time seeing them and it was so much better than the first even though the first was pretty damn cool. dan smith moved all around the venue and i almost passed out because he walked in the aisle next to my friend and i and at one point everyone in the venue was standing on their chairs to see dan jumping around and directing the crowd like a boss. his dancing is hysterical, woody standing on his drum kit to signal motions for the audience to copy, will's amazing bass skills, and kyle dancing around on stage helped to tie the show together even more. it was flawless, perfect, unforgettable in every way, and i won't hesitate to see these dudes again.

With their new album Bastille just got better. The stage setup was well planned and very cool. For one song Dan sang while he moved through the crowd and for two other songs he played at different points in the theater. The theater seats where curved so all seats pointed towards the stage. This was the first time I saw Bastille Live, and first time I've been to Barclays. Bastille is Amazing! From beginning to end they rocked the house. Dan goes into the crowd for the song Flaws; at the end he went into the upper deck for Two Evils. there is what they call Stage B, which was towards the back of the floor section where he does Of the Night. Dan and the boys went for a good 1hr 45 min non stop. Dan's vocals are hauntingly beautiful, and powerful. The visuals that accompany the songs are pretty awesome too. they also explain the photo shoot for the cover of the Wild World Album (the two guys on the ledge of an undisclosed building in NYC). It was not photo-shopped. The video shows the making of the the image which is pretty insane! It was unforgettable time and I need to see them again!!

This was my second time seeing Bastille here in Boston, and they were fantastic once again - hands down my favorite artist to see live. They put together a great narrative for this tour (and album), making the experience more than just a setlist. I've been to many concerts but I will say this one was by far my favorite. Although the Cincinnati show was postponed from May to October, they well made up for it by giving us first pick at GA tickets and gave a phenomenal show. It was easy to come early and get great standing room right in front of the stage, even if there were a couple of younger girls who were very pushy in order to get where they wanted to (came right out of nowhere!). All in all they made a great use out of half the US bank arena and I will definitely be going again!Dan did not disappoint, absolutely amazing live! P.S. Grizfolk was great too!

After months of anticipation the day was finally here! The music was perfect, the singing was heart reaching and I had the time of my life! My only complaint is that I waited outside in the blistering cold wind for 3.5 hours waiting for them to come out and meet us.... the staff kept saying they would come soon but the band never did. Needless to say, I left my tears on the sidewalk outside the Key Arena at 3am that early morning when we finally gave up. I just wanted to tell the band how amazingly talented I think they are and I especially wanted to tell Dan that his voice is breathtaking in a literal sense and I would love the chance to talk to him about his music. Great show Dan, Will, Kyle, Woody and crew - you put on a high energy, stellar show and I will gladly come see Bastille any chance I get! Bastille has been my obsession for almost 2 years now and I've been dreaming about seeing them live since. I had to drive 13 hours to get to the venue, but I was so happy to finally see them! I got in line outside for GA at 3:30 and doors opened at 6:30 for the 7:30 show. Although I was unfamiliar with the opening act, Ella Eyre, she was really good and I've since bought her new EP. The moment Bastille walked out onto stage was so surreal for me and I had the hugest, dorkiest smile on my face. The people in Houston, however, was sorta rude, but I couldn't hear them over the sound of Dan Smith's angelic voice. Anyways, I would most definitely recommend going to see Bastille no matter where your tickets are or now matter how much you have to pay or how long you have to travel because they'll change your life forever.

The show was great. The opening act was fabulous and did a little signing next to the merch table after the show. Unfortunately the show was not sold out or even remotely close to that point and even the lead singer mentioned that it was weird singing to a bunch of empty seats. I don't know why there were empty seats but it may have been because the University purchased tickets and did not sell them all. (also in a small town in the middle of the week) The sound was great and it was cool to see Bastille in a smaller venue. They played a few songs that I did not hear live on their first US tour at the beginning of the summer including Skulls and No Scrubs. The crowd was fairly diverse including mostly college students but there were also adult couples and a few families. Dan did his signature walk through the crowd during flaws and even climbed over the theater seats and went into the middle of the crowd. My only regret is not getting closer tickets because I saw how many empty seats there were on the floor and grand tier.

I was really hyped up about this show as I have been unable to attend every other Bastille show near me. I went with my roommate and another girl from our dorm and it was AMAZING! We got to the venue pretty early (5 pm) and managed to get spots along the barricade. Dan was *this* close, I couldn't believe it. The production value of the show was so good and overall it was extremely high-energy. I'm still a little sore from all the jumping around I did, but who can keep still in that setting?!

First off the Masonic temple is a real small venue so it feels intimate but it's still big enough that it still feels like a concert. The opening band, Grizfolk was actually really good; I downloaded their music as soon as I got home! Then when Bastille came on it was amazing. After every song, Dan thanked us for coming out. It was really sweet to see how he appreciated it. Lastly they are amazing live and sound just like they do on their album except its somehow better. I highly recommend this venue for any concert and this band to be seen live. I will be definitely be going to their next show.

I've already been to hundreds of gigs, from the biggest festivals, to the tiniest pubs. This one was one of a kind. I've never seen an audience like that. People in the seats actually stayed seated, with a tray on the lap, dipping their nachos in their sauces!!! It looked like they were in their living rooms, watching to the concert from the TV!!! No dancing, no sing along! Weird! The band did all they could. They are really good musicians and have a great energy in live concerts. But the crowd didn't do their part.

We had been to see Bastille in June 2014 at the Egyptian Rooms in Indianapolis and decided we'd love to see them perform again so we went to this show in the Milwaukee Theatre. Loved every moment of the performance of the Bad Blood Album along with tracks from the unpublished mix tapes. As a British ex-pat it was good to get some music from back home :)

After waiting in line for 5 hours before in the chilly weather, I was ready to get inside. Being one of the 150 people in line, I got special access to the pit. This was truly a spectacular experience getting to be that close to my favorite band. The opening band, Grizfolk, was amazing as well! Bastille sounded spectacular live and they better come back. I would for sure attend another one of their concerts.

These guys are simply awesome live. The crowd was on its feet for the entire show, and the band was just full of energy from start to finish. Grizfolk was great too, complemented Bastille really well. Will definitely be watching for their return to Boston!

i've been a huge bastille fan for a while now, and this is my first time seeing them live. i'm actually from kansas city, but flew to boston because they never come anywhere close to where i am! it was completely worth it. my seats were really far away, but it was the best gig i've ever been to. these four guys - dan, will, kyle, and woody, have some MAJOR talent and i can tell they're going places. they are absolutely amazing, so if you get a chance to go to one of their gigs, GO!!! the guys are so incredibly nice and they put on a great show!

Wolf Gang opened up for Bastille and we were pleasantly surprised! They really got the crowd going! First time we heard of them and they were awesome! Bastille put on a top notch performance! Loved every second of it! Best part is when lead singer Dan went into the crowd to perform!!! Definitely would see again!

This was by far one of the best concerts I've been to. Both Bastille and Wolfgang had so much energy and knew how to work the crowd. The venue was intimate enough to allow a real connection between the band and audience.

I attended with my boyfriend, and we both had an amazing time! The line to get in was long, but went by quickly and was very organized. Although the food selection was lacking, the beverage selection was nice, and we enjoyed eating together on the grass. We loved the outdoor theater! The opening act Wolfgang were very talented and charismatic, as were Bastille. Wasn't too crowded either, so we had room to move. Definitely an enjoyable experience. The only downside was the merchandise table was EXTREMELY unorganized and people were very pushy. Managed to get a shirt though and make it home before midnight. Overall, pretty fun night!

I've seen many different artists live in concert and NONE of them have compared to Bastille. Everything thing about their show was perfection. They connected with the audience, high energy from start to finish... It was worth so much more than the ticket price. Dan's voice quite possibly sounded even better than the album version. Even more impressive, he sounded flawless all while dancing, jumping, and even taking a tour through the audience. Impressed is an understatement.

Bastille put on such a great show, the band sounded great & the lights added a good touch. Wolf gang was also a great band. I really enjoyed this concert, best concert I've been to in a long time. Although the venue was extremely hot and cramped, it was well worth it.

The venue was a little unorganized as far as GA goes, but the show itself was amazing. I was touching the stage, so close I could touch the band members feet! Great intimate experience and open venue grounds. I would definitely go back.

Wasn't too sure about seeing this concert but was totally amazed at the great show they put on. Very energetic and fun. Was up in the balcony and it definitely did shake with all the jumping! It was my daughter in law's sister's first concert and she was smiling from ear to ear, she had such a good time. Will see them again if/when they come around again.

Bastille is one of the best bands you could probably see on a Tuesday night. I had such an incredible time at their show again, and they are so addictive as a set of musicians! Even though Dan really can't dance, he's the most fun to watch on stage along with Will. They both are the most interactive with the audience and will want you coming back for so much more. Everyone that likes Bastille needs to see them at least once on tour!

The Palace is a great venue, beautiful and gracious.I know it has great acoustics and I was anticipating an evening full of musical magic in a more intimate setting. It was clear when Frenship started that the sound was off. The vocals were barely heard in the balcony. I figured that Bastille, with their amazing vocals, would not have that problem. I was wrong. If Dan Smith's voice and vocals were garbled, it was not his fault. The whole lovely experience I had hoped for was a loss sue to the sound. I have seen Bastille in venues of different sizes and they always are amazing. They have incredible energy and talent. This was like listening to them try to play in a plastic bag. So, the venue is beautiful, I know the two bands are great, it was just really unfortunate. I think both bands would have fared better turning off the technology and just singing.
