Southern Conference Tournament

I was so disappointed...the venue was great...parking a little rough....the VIP is a great deal....HOWEVER, THE OFFICIALS WERE ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS...as a former player and coach....I was embarrassed to see the poor level of officiating that the conference had for the Championship game....it was a travesty. Just watch the replay...terrible.

The venues were designed for high school play! Parking was impossible. The food courts were totally lackluster. You could NOT locate a good restaurant around venues and the food courts left a great deal to be desired! The scoreboards required binoculars to read. This was absolutely the poorest tournament(s) I have ever attended and I have attended many in others areas. This should be moved to a more desirable area with much better facilities. I canNOT find a reason to leave this in Asheville!!

This was a cool tournament to attend. They didn't have as many free giveaways as a lot of the other tournaments, but they did have free towels with the tournament logo on them. T-shirts were reasonable at $20. The quality of play was relatively high, I think Mercer and Wofford both looked like postseason teams, and Furman was playing better than Mercer for the weekend. The kids area was nice, but it would have been necessary for young kids, as the building's acoustics amplify the buzzer and make the inner bowl generally too loud for young kids. The facility isn't anything to write home about, but they do a reasonable job of putting on a tournament. The session I was at, I moved into the lower bowl center court seats after they had cleared out following the first game. An usher very politely checked my ticket and told me the center section wasn't available for me, but was kind enough to let me know the closest section. This struck me as a) very polite, foremost very polite as I've been treated much worse in the same situation elsewhere; but b) a little weak as no one was going to come back for that last game. As it turned out I was able to sit in a lower row about a section over anyway so it wasn't a big deal. Concessions are a reasonable value, $6.50 for chili cheese fries and a 20 oz (16 oz?) Pepsi. Program proceeds and a silent auction with autographed team gear and local business gift cards went to a local YMCA, so that was cool too.

It was a nice birthday present for my daughter who is a true SOCON fan.

We had a great time on Sat. at the Southern Conference Tournament this past weekend. The games were fun, the cheerleaders and dancers were entertaining, and the pep bands were great. US Cellular Center Asheville was a great place to have the tournament. We enjoyed dinner at The Bier Garden, just a couple of blocks from the arena.

A great game...the App State boys played tough "D" and put a scare into the the Davidson team on their run to the championship, but the Wildcats prevailed! On to the top rung of the ladder and a chance at the "Big Dance"!

The tournament is always great this was our fifth consecutive one. There were some changes this year. Most were for the worst. Some of the arena workers were hostile the first few days. Someone must have talked to them because the same people were nicer later on in the tournament. The VIP room which was one of the best parts of previous tournaments declined in quality. There were not enough places to sit, the food was less plentiful and available for less time. Also between sessions they used to let su stay in the VIP room. This year they forced us outside into the weather to stand around for an hour or so. Not a great thing for a couple of senior citizens. Still the drama of the games was awesome and we will be back again next year. VIP tickets?- maybe not.

We went to the basketball game with friends and enjoyed it very much.

Basketball games were great and exciting but the VIP food sucked! I thought I was on diet hospital food.

Competition was great. Enjoyed the catering of a healthy lunch very muc,h.

I was upset that I over paid for tickets, but the event was amazing!!!

Great atmosphere, not a bad seat in the arena! Clean and friendly service people, too.

Not a bad seat in the house and the Davidson Wildcats were on fire! The Civic Center was easy to find, parking was plentiful, the venue staff was friendly and the stress-ball free gifts were lots of fun. The Bier Garden down the street is perfectly placed near the Civic Center and the food was yummy and the service was great. All in all, a great time!

Asheville is a GREAT city for this event. Great basketball venues -- for men's and women's games -- and great hotels, restaurants, bars and sightseeing when there is downtime between the games.

The sound system was horrific at best. You could not hear the announcer and when they played music for the dancers you would think the speakers were going to fall. They also ran out of several items at the concession including all beer before half time of the night game. The Socon should never return there.
