Although at a smaller venue than they deserve, Dragonforce did not disappoint! The crowd was very in to the event and even loudly supported the opening act. This is great for a week night. Dragonforce played a great set and of course closed out with their Guitar Hero favorite - but then they rewarded the loud and high energy fans with free meet and greet after - they partied through the night and took the time to allow individual photos (long long time). These guys rocked.

Possibly one of the best shows I've been to! Dragonforce have really improved on their live show. One of the best song line ups from them including my all time favorite Disciples of Babylon! DONT MISS THIS SHOW!

Awesome. Opening bands are very good on D-Force tours but the opening-opening bands are usually terrible, in this case Waking Dawn lived up to that. Sonata Artica was very good though.

Overall, a great show! Some no name band opened, which I only caught the last half of their last song, since I came late. Taking Dawn was next; they were terrible. Sonata Arctica (the main reason I went) was unbelievable, as always. Seen them live more than once and every time, they're phenominal. Played a song (Flag in the Ground) from their new album, The Days of Grays. DragonForce put on a great show as they usually do, but still couldn't beat Sonata. Cons: Taking Dawn, Sonata didn't get much time, Sonata ran out of mechandise quickly. Pros: Great performances by both Sonata Arctica and DragonForce. Bottom Line: Definitely see SA and DF if you get the chance; Avoid Taking Dawn.

The opening band "Two Cents" was very organized, interesting, and entertaining. Taking Dawn was quite a disappointment. Sonata Arctica and DragonForce both played commendably.

For those of you who think they can't really play, you're wrong. Dragonforce can really play all of those notes. Seeing them in concert is twice as amazing than listening to them on itunes. The two guitarists, Herman Li and Sam Totman, were on the top of their game. both playing outstanding guitar solos. ZP Theart, the lead singer, kept the fans nice and wet. (He would splash the fans with water bottles during every guitar solo!) Vadim Pruzhanov, the keyboard player, had some extreme energy, and played as fast as the guitarists. Frederic Leclercq, the bassist, was rockin' and having a good time keeping the band on track. The entire band was really into what they were playing and seemed to be enjoying it. Just a great show, and a great venue. Rock on, Dragonforce!!!

DragonForce played excellently, and their crazy and funny stunts didn't let up for a second! They must have thrown out fifty things to the crowd, too! I don't want to spoil the show with talking about their antics, but it was just amazingly entertaining!

The opening band, 2cents, was amazing. They were definitely the second best band of the night. The drummer/singer was hilarious and the band itself was extremely talented. Taking Dawn was second and they sucked. The one song of theirs that was any good was originally by Fleetwood Mac. Go figure! Sonata Arctica was third and they were plagued by technical difficulties but still put on a great set. Dragonforce I have seen before, and, well, they kind of sucked last night. Most of the songs were utterly unidentifiable, and songs from the new album, Ultra Beatdown, although it isn't new, were terrible. Ultimately, Sonata should have headlined or at least co-headlined. Lots of the crowd left after Sonata did, and I wanted to, but my friend had never seen Dragonforce. Not only that, but Sam from Dragonforce actually took out his penis. Really? Why? To recap: 2Cents gets a 5/5, Taking Dawn gets a 0/5, Sonata Arctica gets a 5/5, and Dragonforce gets a 2/5, one for every inch Sam was packing.

Went with 4 kids ages 12 and 17. I myself do not fit into either of these age groups being somewhat older that 17. I found that even with the differences in all of our ages, everyone had a great time. Dragonforce is just fun to watch. They always put on a great show. However, if you are fortunate enough to be down in front as we were, prepare to get wet.

If you are a metal fan. This band is truly great entertainment. Their drummer drives this band with incredible frenzy. I can't imagine how hard it was to find keyboards and guitarists to keep up with him. They managed to do it and this band makes it all seem so easy. I think they are one of the most harmonic metal bands on the face of the earth. LONG LIVE DRAGON FORCE! I had never heard Sonata Arctica but was incredibly impressed. I will be purchasing their CD's. Despite only 500 people or so attending this show, it was great. The fans that did come were of the best sort. They knew the lyrics, responded well to the band, and were very friendly to each other. All three bands preformed professionally doing what I believe was as good of a show as could be possibly expected of them. Lots of energy, light heartedness, and fan participation.

Open gig: Taking Dawn Taking Dawn is a newer band and they are very energetic. They will definitely go far in life. It seemed as if the bass was too loud at times and sometimes you could not even hear the singer screaming into the mic, but that is easily fixed with a good sound crew. Tons of potential and i will definitely look into their cd in January. Second gig: Sonata Arctica. Sonata is a great band to watch. Very energetic and also love to play pranks on either other mid concert. They add a great amount of humor into the show to make it the perfect balance of humor and music. Seeing the keyboardist at work is amazing and getting to hang out with after the show makes for a unforgettable evening. Final gig: Dragonforce Dragonforce certainly does not like to pull out any of the stops in their concerts. Their music is fast paced and so are their concerts. Many times the ending of one song will immediately start the next. Makes the concert go by too fast, but you certianly get your fill of Dragonforce by the end. Whether they are jumping all over the stage, singing and drinking Corona at the same time, or just play pushing each other around while playing they certainly know how to keep the crowd entertained either by their music or their antics.

Like the title states, Sonata was the real winner for me. Taking Dawn wasn't terrible, and they had a surprisingly good stage presence, but they weren't amazing either. Sonata Arctica delivered a truly amazing set, even though it was short. They had great communication going with the crowd, and were very solid with their sound. Dragon Force was another matter. They had a light show that was blinding, not metaphorically either...literally blinding. My friends and I had headaches afterward. As far as their performance goes, it was better than what I've seen of their past live videos, but it still wasn't great. To be fair, they did do a great job wooing the crowd with their flashy moves.

Thankfully, Sonata Arctica was on the bill. Actually, that's why I attended the show. They rocked. Hopefully, they'll be headlining a tour soon. Dragonforce reminded me of an 80's big hair band; and the guitarist in the green spandex, drinking Corona's from a straw while playing pretty much says it all.

Show was overall excellent. The opening band, Taking Dawn, from Las Vegas was amazing. Their lead singer was loaded with charisma and attitude. They got the show rocking early. They were followed by Sonata Artica. They were okay. Kinda took away from the energy produced by Taking Dawn. Finally Dragon Force came on stage and blew us all away. They guitar work is absolutly amazing. The most fun off all is the stage presence. They guys interact with lots of humor while playing. Pretending to kick each other, making sad faces during slow songs and cracking each other up while they are trying to be serious. Good time had by all!

DragonForce put on a show like no band I have seen before. The sound quality was well above that of all opening acts (not to mention the pure musicianship), and they put out more energy than every punk rock show I have seen at the same venue combined. They are masters of their instruments, ZP is vocal master and top-notch showman. I would beg this band to play my town again because they put on a show that neither I nor my wife will never forget.

This was my first Dragonforce concert. I enjoyed it a lot, however, I wish there was seating available for people who want to be able to sit around to enjoy the music and not have to deal with getting elbowed in the head, or getting thrown into unwanted mosh pits. I know that this may just be the environment for these types of concerts, but it would be nice for older people who want to be able to sit and rock out.

Sonata Arctica opened for Dragonforce, and it was much to the pleasure of everyone in the crowd. They played some of their best tracks - In Black and White, Paid in Full, Don't Say a Word, Flag in the Ground - as well as some of their other tracks. Everyone loved their performance. After they left, so did a large portion of the audience. Dragonforce came out next, starting with 'Heroes of Our Time,' one of their better songs. They later went on to play songs including Operation Ground and Pound, and finished with Through the Fire and the Flames, all of which are available on the X-Box 360 Game, Guitar Hero III. Many would argue they only became popular because of that game. Dragonforce has never been very good live, and the same held true for tonight. They don't play their music very well - No harmonization, and often sounding like they are singing something entirely different in person than what they sing on the CD. Bad vocals partnered with an overpowered bass, everything else was drowned out. The keyboarder was honestly the best-playing member of the band. Crowd-pleasing is important to Dragonforce, likely due to playing such horrible live music. They were able to get a lot of cheers when they threw water on people, followed by tossing the bottles into the audience, as well as drinking beer on stage - the glass bottles being held in attached cup-holders.

I'm an older heavy metal fan of groups like AC/DC and Metalica. At 47 years old, I've haven't kept up with the new stuff. So we get a Guitar Hero game and my 15 year old son hooks me into playing with him. That's where I discovered Dragonforce. The music is phenomenal; full of content and complex in technicality. So we decided to do a first-class Dragonforce concert at the HOB Chicago. Front row, center stage. I've been to a few concerts in my day so I know where I like to stand (up close and in your face!). But I noticed my wife and I were among the oldest in the front row crowd. (The old people were stationed (smartly) around the periphery. My son was geeked (his first heavy metal concert). The group played to the crowd which was awesome! They looked like they had a lot of fun! I found I really liked the music (for an old guy) and also that of Sonata Arctica whom I had never heard of. Taking Dawn was young band and a good choice for an opener. I'd go again, but I'd leave my son in the front row and I'd set comfortably around the edge. I was exhausted after the concert (we were on the edge of a mosh pit). It was definately a good night. I'll be purchasing more Dragonforce and Sonata Arctica music in the future! Good Job House of Blues! Excellent Job Dragonforce!!!

We are actually Sonata Arctica fans and not Dragonforce fans. It's a balancing act, since it's always a gamble going to a concert to see the opening act, but Sonata is always worth seeing. Taking Dawn was okay. Four or five songs, including a metal cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain." With a little work, that song could be pretty cool. The lead singer used the F-word pretty liberally, perhaps as a way of letting the Dragonforce-fan-parents know that they are, in fact, at a metal show. Sonata was good though Tony seemed to be nursing a cold, plus his mic was mixed erratically. For a vocal-driven group, it was a little flat but still worth watching. He's still the best voice in metal, even with a cold. The best thing I can say about Dragonforce is that it reminded me of taking my kids to see Parachute Express about 15 years ago. All that was missing was the confetti cannon, the fire eaters, and the girls on trapeze. They are certainly talented but have decided to take a cartoony route to success. My kids say the rumor is that they aren't good live; that's not exactly true. They are either not your cup of tea, in which case their live show will irritate the hell out of you, or you love them and will love their live show. And I mean, really love it. If you like a crazed Japanese-Ukrainian clown-gamer as a keyboardist, you'll love Dragonforce.

The openign act, Once Human was amazing. DragonForce was amazing! The venue, was meh. This was in the Heaven room at the Masquerade. I've been to one of the other rooms which was a bi-level and had thought all the rooms would be the same. This was a single floor and it was really hard to see the band, especially one where you go to see them play/shred guitar. The band constantly tried to get people to raise their hands in the air and then you couldn't see the stage with so many tall people in front of you and people in front of you trying to record, watching at least 1/3 of the show through other people's cell phones while they try to record. I was also surprised to see people allowed to light actual lighters in the place. About the seats (Since there is a limit of characters.): The Heaven room only has 1 floor. This drastically removed the ability to look down over the lighting (for those with light sensitivities, I had to wear my sunglasses the whole show), or being able to look down and actually watch the guitarists shred, which is the whole reason you go to see DragonForce. I would see them again if they played in the 2-story room, but not Heaven.

These guys flat out rock. If you like fast hard metal then these guys are for you. The new singer does a great job filling the shoes of Z.P. The only thing I didn't like, and this goes for 99.9% of live shows, is that the bass is amped way too high and the vocals are nearly drowned out. If the vocals had been louder this show would have gotten five stars.

A huge Dragonforce fan so I was a bit disappointed with their overall performance. Sound was a huge issue - it seemed Marc Hudson's microphone was not working during most of the performance so he was difficult to hear. Thought rest of the band excluded him from the performance - isn't the frontman supposed to be just that? I think he has some big shoes to step into (ZP Theart) but these are early days so hopefully he will find his niche. Having said that I think he did a good job with what he had to work on. Hope this doesn't sound too negative, it's just my opinion. Thought support band Holy Grail were great although again there was a sound problem so I was glad I bought their cd to hear what they are really like. Unfortunately arrived too late for Huntress but I'm sure they were good. Loved the dog!!!

The Show was good, with a lot of energy. My only complaint, which is huge, is the sound, I wish the sound could have been better, you can tell that each of them are great musicians, and at times it you could hear every one at their best. But the sound system or the building themselves drowned out a lot of the sound.

This show was worth every inch of the $5 Footlong Subway sub I had to eat for the tickets. Truthfully I'd have paid the regular price and then some. To see this band up close at a small venue was a totally different experience than the last time I saw them (Ozzfest '06). Herman Li & Sam Totman are guitar-soloing prodigies. This band's unique formula of heavy metal; mixing Classic, Progressive, and Speed Metal is a true adrenaline rush to hear performed live. If you think "Through the Fire and Flames" is awesome when you're running through it on your Guitar Hero game, then you'll truly be floored to see it performed right before your eyes in all its glory!

Dragonforce puts on the best shown I have seen. They take so much energy on stage and play the fastest music I have heard and seen. Watching major guitar shredding to that long of a period is truely amazing. Every member of the band carried this energy, not just the Sam and Herman. The keyboard player bought out the keytar and started shredding out keyboard solos alongside the guitarists. Taking Dawn was a solid performance as the first opener and Sonata Arctica was a great opener, much better than I expected. I would see Sonata Arctica again for sure. But Dragonforce was just freaking awesome.

This was the second concert I have ever been to in my life and it was so much fun! I'd never heard Taking Dawn before but Sonata Arctica and Dragonforce are two of my favorite bands, so i was really happy that I got to see them. My only complaint was that the drums were amped up so loud that you couldn't hear the lyrics very well. For Sonata Arctica it wasn't bad, but for Dragonforce and Taking Dawn it was very hard to understand them. Other than that, it was amazing! Sonata Arctica was a lot of fun to watch, very funny and they played several of my favorite songs. Thank you so much for playing "Full Moon!" That is my aboslute favorite song! And the keyboardist for Dragonforce was a riot! I could not believe how fast he was playing for several of those numbers! Thanks once again for an amazing experience!

All three bands had amazing talent and put on a great show. However, Sonata Arctica and Dragonforce were particularly fantastic. Sonata rattled off several of their hit tracks, and Dragonforce blew the crowd away with phenomenal performances and hilarious antics.

great show, love this band, they have a really good time playing and it shows. sound shoulda been better tho saw them at the house of blues in december 08 and the lead guitars really ripped thru the rest of their huge, busy, sound. this time i had difficulty hearing some solos and the sound guy appeared to be behind when switching sound levels on the instruments on occasion but still a fantastic time ill be back whenever they come thru. also they never played soldiers of the wasteland which is my favorite dragonforce song but i aint complainin great show great setlist

I'd never been to a real concert before in my life, and was excited that two of my favorite bands, Dragonforce and Sonata Arctica, would be playing. The first thing I noticed was how small the venue was and how close to the stage I could get. It was quite an experience being within a dozen feet of those guitar gods. The opening act, Taking Dawn, was an excellent choice, and I appreciated their interaction with the crowd. While Sonata Arctica could've played longer, they did pick some of their best songs to play, and the sound quality was incredibly clear and not too loud. Dragonforce was truly amazing, the stage setup was stellar. The small size meant it had a very personal feel, and the long setlist (compared to Sonata, at least) made it feel like the concert went on forever. ZP's water throwing at the crowd was fun to see as usual, and Herman's crowd-surfing while continuing to play his lead was pretty darn cool.

I saw Sonata Arctica last year at Sound Academy with Nightwish and they were both great. This year, I didn't know who Taking Dawn was, but they were much better than I had first expected. Sonata Arctica is almost too great for words....and DragonForce has only one song that they play over and over with different lyrics. I am somewhat glad they played after SA, because I got so bored I left halfway through. It wasn't just me either, most of the crowd was in a lull for DragonForce after SA's amazing performance. I hope the message gets through that Sonata Arctica is popular enough to be HEADLINING THEIR OWN TOURS.

Sonata Arctica was worth the entire price of the ticket! They are fabulous performers and musicians!!! They are also such nice people, i would recommend seeing them to anyone! However, Dragonforce was hugely disappointing. I left after their first song. Takeing Dawn did a pretty good job, i wouldn't mind seeing them again.

DragonForce and Sonata Arctica were fantastic! An incredibly high energy show with two bands I love but never expected to see. The Beaumont Club is a good venue, well worth the 2 1/2 hour drive we had to get there. I highly recommend both the bands and the venue.

Dragonforce is one of the best bands I've ever seen. These guys are truly incredible musicians. The intensity they bring to a show is amazing. I hope they come back soon!
