Tokyo Police Club

TOKYO POLICE CLUB IN CONCERT: Upbeat Canadian indie quartet Tokyo Police Club has been getting wallflowers dancing with their post-punk-inspired sound and high-spirited live performances for the past decade. The group’s concerts are a nonstop barrage of catchy melodies, and sing-along-worthy choruses, and their outsize charm and infectious energy fill the room every time they take the stage. Earworms like “Hot Tonight” and “Your English Is Good” always elicit massive cheers from the crowd, and the band responds in kind with unbridled enthusiasm as they tear through their set. Whether they’re performing songs from their 2008 debut album Elephant Shell or 2014’s Forcefield, Tokyo Police Club always rock the stage with their impressive musicianship, lively stage presence, and extensive catalog of powerful indie rock jams.

Not only was the music amazing, they are great performers. It really seems like they enjoy performing and performing together. Great stage presence!

The boys were on it. Unfortunately my friend and I spent a lot of the time wondering where the high-end was... It was like the cymbol mikes were turned off. And you couldn't feel the kick drum either. I know I sound like a snob, but it was very noticeable.

So... how can I review this concert without saying "OMG IT WAS AMAZING!!!"? Because literally, that's all I can think of saying! Tokyo Police Club perform very well live, and just have an extraordinary stage presence. Their set list was pretty stellar too. Their opener (Beast Make Bomb) was surprisingly good as well; and their "Zombie Song" was really really catchy. Overall, the concert was everything I expected-- and more! I'd DEFINITELY see them again, and I'd also recommend their concerts to anyone who's a fan of them. You're really missing out on something spectacular if you don't.

I must say I was quite amazed at the incredible show these guys put on for us. The venue was literally packed and with good reason, this band is a gem of a find. In an age when we re all bombarded with buzz band saturation there s always a question about whether the band your best friend introduced you to, not too long ago, is actually gonna stick around and I don t mean in the press, but rather in your iPod, in your car, and basically all around in you life. Let me just say that after having for the first time seen them perform live I have no doubt in my mind that this band is here to stay. They re incredibly talented. Many of their songs are short but they sure as heck are sweet. The band s positive energy on stage last night was irresistibly contagious. The entire crowd was reeling. They had the whole room dancing and singing from the time they hit the stage to the time they left. They were even nice enough to come back for an encore of two songs, one of which was a cover of My Name is Jonas by Weezer\u2026and let me just say it was awesome. Last night was unforgettable. This band is a definite must see!

Tokyo Police Club was sooooo good. They took a while to get on stage (show started at 9 and they played at 11) but the Arkells got the crowd pumped so it was completely worth it. My only complaint is that the crowd was kind of tame (and snobbish). There wasn't any shoving until the "last song" (Your English is Good) where people got more excited and packed together. Luckily they played two more songs after that where we just jumped around. Altogether, it was pretty sweet. Tokyo Police is one of my top bands and I will definitely see them again.

Wasn't on time to see the Arkells, but did see Freelance Whales, who sucks. We don't need another Owl City-esque band. Tokyo Police Club, on the other hand, was amazing as always. Great stage presence, great sound, just a wonderful experience overall.

The show had amazing energy, balanced with a great musical product. Musicians were personable and seemed to really enjoy the show themselves. The Bluebird also did a great job hosting them, as always.

The Arkells surprised us all as an opening act. Great things will come for these Canadian rockers. Great sound and variety. Freelance Whales did not disappoint with their vocals and unique arrangements and instruments. The acoustics at the Bluebird did nothing to enhance the sound. A little at a time for this group. TPC? They sounded much the same on each song. Lead singer with no breadth or depth. The guitars were amped out to distort. It helped to cover an amazing lack of talent. Keyboards were simple and also had a sameness from song to song. Still, these guys have a following, but I'm not one of them.

The show was really good, the opening acts were very pleasant, especially Freelance Whales, who I heard for the first time when they played. Tokyo Police Club sounded exactly like they do on their albums. The crowd was really into it and you could see that the band really fed off that. Overall, good show and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.

to start We Were Promised Jetpacks were a great opener, a band similar to tokyo in the pop sense but more darker and longer songs. There was a lot of energy between the band and that was awesome to watch. When tokyo came on they were completely ready for the show, the whole entire band, especially monks was smiling and you could really tell they were into it. The only negative was obnoxious people who could not sing were screaming at the top of their lungs, and trying to mosh to songs completely unmoshable (i.e juno/hands reversed)

I've seen both bands before, and they lived up to, if not exceeded my expectations this time around - especially Tokyo Police Club, whom I'd previously seen in a very large venue. (The small venue suits them very well.) Great energy and attitude and the sound balance was very well done. My only complaint was that the sound was too loud - I think the Royale could have taken it back a notch or two. My ears were ringing after 30 seconds of the first We Were Promised Jetpacks song - and usually that doesn't happen until the end of an event. Other than that, great show!!

This band is good to miami, every time they come they have a full house and always manage to give a good show. Even though I am not a fan of the Culture Room because of its capacity and settings, its a little more intimate. The best part was this was a great show since they had openers Someone Still Loves you Boris Yeltsin. Most of the time great bands have shitty openers and especially when they are bands with no future, so this was a treat.

Really a great show. Lots of energy, good music and fun interplay. Wished the lead guitar was mixed in louder but that was my only real complaint. However TPC should steal either one of the drummers from the opening act which started slow but finished strong. Great rhythm section. I've never seen a band in mid act all - with the exception of the lead guitarist - change instruments and vocal positions. Biggest surprise was the leading vocalist/guitarist moving to the drums and doing an awesome job. Then the starting drummer - who was also excellent - switched to bass. Pretty talented group except for the relatively weak lead guitarist.

TPC was....fantastic. They REALLY know how to deliver a concert and please their fans. I definitely recommend seeing them! The Culture Room was small so I was able to secure myself an up close view throughout the concert until the audience shoved me towards the back. If you can manage to stay strong and keep your place, kudos but it was fun fighting for my spot. TPC is one of my favorite bands (especially after the concert). The group was great - we really enjoyed it and it was even better than we hoped it would be. Great venue and crowd was totally into the music too. They're worth seeing again! The only thing I didn't like too much was the lighting - the strobe effects were too bright and too frequent - it was distracting from the music - they're good enough not to need distracting lights - you couldn't watch the individual musicians enough.

This is a show I will never forget; two of my favorite bands and seeing them with all of my best friends. It was my third time seeing Tokyo Police Club and my second time seeing Two Door Cinema Club, so I was expecting a lot. Two Door was incredible. I honestly expected them to be playing last, but I found it appropriate to have their set before Tokyo Police Club. They opened with Cigarettes in the Theatre and closed with I Can Talk, my favorite songs placed perfectly. I danced my way into the front of the venue. The crews working at Terminal 5 were amazing and wasted no time between sets; they didn't let the crowd get restless. When Tokyo Police Club came out, I was lucky enough to squeeze up against the front gate with my best friend. Having the one member of Passion Pit come out and play a song with them was genius and brought back fond memories of when I saw them together over the summer. Their set was great, especially when they took a small break to sing Happy Birthday to the lead singer Dave. Just when I thought the show couldn't get better, both Two Door Cinema Club and Tokyo Police Club came out to do an encore cover of Last Nite by The Strokes. Incredible. I wish I could travel back to that night, it was that amazing.

Two Door Cinema Club was fantastic! They were so good live, I can't even handle it. There are a lot of bands that sound terrible or mediocre live, but Alex's voice is like an angel - too legit. They were exceptionally classy when taking swigs of wine and beer between songs, and I respected them for that. Am I over doing it? It doesn't matter because Two Door made my weekend. I only wish that they could play in Philly again instead of heading south, but I suppose they have to do what they have to do. Did I mention their Irish accents? I don't think I did because they made me love them 10x more than I already did. Despite the fact that it was only 10 degrees in the city that night, I was more than willing to make the trek to the Troc. And the opening act was adorable, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin? Ahh, something good can work

I arrived at the concert while they were still playing DJ Sammy's Sandstorm so had the pleasure of hearing the "opening band" Two Door Cinema club, though TDCC seemed to be the reason why everyone I talked to went to the concert in the first place. I knew only 1 or 2 Tokyo Police songs, but knew most all Two Door played. TDCC sounded articulate, clear, and energetic during their first show in the States (which was very cool that they told the crowd that before starting to play). Tokyo was a good time, though I admittedly was doing more talking and dancing than listening during their portion of the show. It was just another average band, in my opinion, until of course Tokyo Police played, as the encore, Last Night by The Strokes. This certainly injected me, and the crowd, with new energy and put a big exclamation point on the night. Great time for an idle Sunday night!

This is one of my greatest stories. I was going to see Charly Bliss only b/c I love that band. The Boston marathon ran that day and for a few days i was getting a lot of opinions...mostly dont go..you will never get into the city...you will never get parking. Long story short (b/c it is long) I had decided to not go b/c i was feeling anxious about it. I posted on facebook, my page and charly bliss page, that i was sad and not going. Well, friends convinced me to man up and go for it. I ended up going. no traffic, no roads closed, plenty of parking. I saw Eva and Sam out front. I chatted with them. got pictures with the band. they played a great set. hung out with them after their set. GREAT NIGHT...and a great life lesson. YOLO.

You can tell that the band enjoys playing their music and that enthusiasm radiates off onto the audience.
