Cheech & Chong

Cheech & Chong

Can you imagine the routine 1970's Cheech and Chong would have made of current America, what with marijuana decriminalized in a dozen states and legal for adults in a couple? The fact is, the inspired combination of East L.A.'s Richard "Cheech" Marin and Canadian Tommy Chong has always been ahead of its time, above and beyond their views on cannabis. Their legendary records-- not to mention movies like Up in Smoke and 2012's Cheech & Chong's Animated Movie-- helped pave the way to the absurdist slice of life comedy of everyone from Seth Rogen to Aziz Anasri.

After all this time has passed, I was hoping for alot more new material. Cheech offered not much new at all. Tommy did new stand up stuff, and I hope it was a good experience and continues with it. He was funny. Tommy's wife opened for them doing stand up, and she was so cute! And to that guy that sat next to me, tell your dealer to get better stuff-I'm 34, a mom to 3, and was looking forward to a contact buzz-I got nothing.

Loved seeing Cheech and Chong at Harrah's Open Sky Theater. Wasn't sure what to expect when I went there, but it was really good. Tommy Chong's wife came out first and was really good. Cheech and Chong came out and did skits from their movies. It was hillarious. It was outdoors which was nice. The air had a distinctive "smell" the entire time. Again, loved the show, but as far as staying at Harrah's hotel for the event, I would think twice about that. It was overpriced and unless you are a member of the Harrahs players club, you will not be treated well at all!!

They started out the show with some of their old favorites, like cruising around East L.A., and then moved on to new skits. Chong did a great standup.

Wasnt sure at first , missed them the first time around so I figured why not and boy was I suprised. I was impressed that at this time in thier lifes they are not to proud to be silly (tutu and all) and go back to what made them famous. Make people laugh. At this time we all could laugh and smile more. it was a perfect evening sitting under the stars smiling and laughing the evening away.

Since I grew up with them, I am glad I could see them together again. However I went to be entertained, and did not want to listen to politics. Shelby Chong went on and on about how it was Bush's fault that Tommy went to jail. Tommy even got into the politics later in the show. My advice, If you want to see them together to reminisce you will still see some of the old stuff, but be prepared for a republican bash fest by Shelby Chong the opening act, (by the way she was not funny at all) and a lengthy diatribe from Tommy about what the republicans did to him...

I thought I was a Cheech and Chong fan until i went to this concert. The language and the material was disgustingly filthy. I would not recommend it to anyone. I invited my husband and his best friend and his wife and I was mortified in front of them. It's too bad because my husband and I used to think they were really funny! I don't know when they got so vulgar!

Well I can now say the I have seen Cheech and Chong. Was it entertaining, hmmmm somewhat. I wish they would have actually did some more of thier old comedy routines in full rather than make some vague references to them. It was sure a nostalgia trip for most of the folks in the audience. At 51 I felt down right young. Like I said if you are looking for a great "show" - you will be disappointed. If you are looking to check seeing Cheech and Chong off you bucket list then go and enjoy it for what it is.

If you loved Cheech and Chong movies, you will love and appreciate the show. They were so funny and did a great job. The gift area sells meet and greet tickets and we did get to meet them and Shelby as well. They were beyond sweet and laid back guys. And although there were hundreds of people who were in line to meet them, we were the last to meet them and they were so kind. I felt bad cause by the time I met them it was a little after midnight and they looked really tired, but they remained happy and sweet to us. I loved them in the 70's as a child and love them even more now that I had the opportunity to meet them.

I was not really impressed with the beacon show. Saw them in radio city and they killed . but the beacon was a weaker , watered down version. They were really pushing chong`s wife and it became quickly redundant. How about some new material guys !!!!!!!!! Not so funny the second time round. No posters available. You werent aloud to purchase stickers or c&c rolling papers till AFTER THE SHOW !!! Oh, gee, I get to wait in line AGAIN !! talk about giving in and conforming. Very weak.

Watching these two on stage together again was like reliving our teen years all over. We laughed until we were in tears. My hubby saw them in person at Seaworld in the late 70's and they are every bit as quick witted and sharp now as they were then. They did some favorite classics and added some new things. Tommy's wife Shelby is an awesome performer. She's beautiful and funny, and boy can she dance!!! An absolutely wonderful show. We enjoyed every second of it.

I think they were really funny. They did a good job with their show. Would definitely recommend their show to friends and wouldn't mind seeing them again. The only thing I can say negatively is I wish the show would've been a little longer, didn't quite make 2 hours. And it'd be great to see them in their movie costumes, maybe with wigs to look like the hair they had in the past too. But thats it, overall great show. Shelby was hilarious as well.

I loved these guys in the 70's, saw them in 1976 at the Painter's Mill Music Fair. They are still relevant, they are still funny. Made me wish for a way back machine for a brief visit to the 70's! All in al, they did a few old routines, made a few current jokes, and with all of the other old geezers in the audience, they were a lot of fun. Of note- A bunch of young folks were there having a great time.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to make it, but this was a once in a lifetime chance that I did not want to miss. I wasn't sure what to expect honestly, but I can safely say I wasn't disappointed at all! They were funny, entertaining, and Chong's wife added a womans touch ;) I like how they mixed their show with classics, but mixed in some current affairs. They bring up human issues but without the "buzzkill" effect of talking politics or human rights, and I could appreciate the freedom in which we all should be able to freely express ourselves. The show went by so quickly because I was having so much fun, I hope to see them again in my lifetime.

Sometimes you just need to allow yourself the chance to forget about the craziness of the world today, and just laugh your lungs out. Relive the classic humor. Wax nostalgic to some of the tunes that clouded an entire movement. Hear their current takes on what a NORML day consists of now. Sit back, enjoy the atmosphere, and laugh. A lot.

We enjoyed the show very much they were as funny as ever, Reliving some of the skits and bits from past years even some of the actors from their movies Showed up to share things that made the night special. We even got to learn about how Cheech and Chong got started, In comedy we were let in on how the duo met. Got to meet Chong's wife, they even both sang and danced, played guitars. And to top it all off had a chance to talk to them one on one after the show, have our pictures taken with them both. The night could not have been better.( Some how we ended up in North Dakota the next day instead of home but still trying to figure that out seems a little hazy.) Thank you, for coming to Minnesota.

Was really looking forward to spending the evening with Cheech & Chong but was truly disappointed and left early. We stayed hoping their material would improve but it just didn t. Chong s wife had a very filthy mouth and we all didn t wanna hear about her oral sex with him. We arrived early enough to have dinner and drinks at the casino and found smoking was allowed inside the building so it was smoke filled. We did enjoy hearing their story of how Cheech and Chong got together and their many experiences they ve shared. They ve made their mark in this world. I just wish it would ve been left at that.

What a fun variety show! Chong's hot wife, who is a pretty decent stand up comedienne, warmed up the crowd and was a sort of emcee. Cheech and Chong did mostly their funniest bits and skits and WAR was amazing, rolling through their considerable catalog of funky hits and R&B sing alongs. Their was plenty of smoke in the room to keep the mood on track. Everyone had a great time!

Cheech and Chong were, just that, Cheech and Chong. Still the same funny Drug Humor just modernized to be more relevant. Christmas bit and driving in the car bit were new and hilarious. War was "War, huh, what is it good for, absolutely nothing" !! Long, infused with solo rifs, endless non lyrical songs that were not on the hit lists back in the 60's and 70's. The music was technically excellent, but way too long and got boring. Anyone under 40 left 20 minutes in. They did about 3 songs you could remember including Cisco Kid #good, but mostly audience driven# and ended with Low Rider. Worst of all was that they spent 20-25 minutes on long boring songs and wrapped up Low Rider in 3 minutes like it was a radio song. We had to leave before Cheech and Chong's last bits because War dragged it out so much. All in all though a fun night out with my Pamee !!!!

From the parking to the seating everything was great. This show was given to my husband as a Valentines day gift, little did I know that it was on his bucket list. Well he was in tears when he actually saw them come on the stage. His dad passed away when he was 22 yrs old and he was able to see events like this with him at the theatre so he said that this was a show that he watched for not only himself but for his dad cause his dad would have absolutley loved the show like he did. Cheech and Chong always deliver. WAR on the other hand just dragged on. Most of us came to hear the hits and expect to hear a close representation of the original music. What we got instead were extended solos and too much audience participation. I could have done without the jam sessions and karaoke! Plus a few people had to be escorted out by the police.

As a kid growing up around my uncles WAR was one of the bands we always listen to. and watching Cheech and Chong movies and listening to their albums was another thing we did.. So all these years later to have the opportunity to see them both on stage at the same time was AMAZING!!! the comedy from Cheech and Chong was freakin funny! and the music from WAR was amazing.. Comedy pioneers, Cheech & Chong teamed with the 70's group WAR for two hours of nostalgia. Tommy's wife, the beautiful Shelby Chong, opened the show with a few minutes of stand-up before introducing the duo with a bit of an interview styled segment. She then brought on the band "WAR" for a set of their hits. Cheech and Chong reappeared to recreate some of their most famous bits, with some updates to give them more current relevance and less predictability. WAR did another set being joined by "Blind Melon Chitlin" and "Alice Bowie". Cheech & Chong satisfied the faithful who came to see their legendary heroes. WAR was better than expected, given that they only have one original member, Lonnie Jordan. He has surrounded himself with a band of very good musicians that are solid and well-rehearsed. Another version of WAR does limited touring under the Lowrider Band. That version contains 4 of the 5 original members, but is unable to use the WAR name due to a court ruling. I'm very anxious to see them, but they do fewer shows and seem to concentrate their live performances in the western U.S. Nonetheless, you'll have fun at this show. My only disappointments were that the wheelchair accommodations were poor. Limited places to sit and the open spots are interspersed with rigid seats, which is difficult to navigate. This should definitely be back row folding chairs only for flexability. Handicapped access should be made available much closer, too. My friend has a visual impairment in addition to mobility issues. There are big screens to view, but if that's the option, save the money and watch a DVD at home. As you can imagine, a Cheech & Chong show means the buffet is busy as hell. Get there early. I also felt that because there were no Girl Scouts selling cookies outside, there was a real missed opportunity.

As I walked into the venue I was greeted at the merchandise table by two of the memebers of WAR who signed a poster I brought for the purpose of getting signitures. They said that they really like the way Cheech and Chong incorporated them into the show, I pressed them for details but they said they didn't want to ruin it for me. So I will respect their suggestion and I won't reveal the whole show. Needless to say Tommy Chong's wife Shelby (still very sexy in her red dress) acted as MC and provided laughs. Cheech and Chong took questions and did songs and comedy. Some I recognized and some seemed new. WAR acted as house band and did many of their classic songs. The band was flawless, I personally think every song could be rerecorded and re-released and be hits today. Cheech and Chong were hysterically funny and my face hurt from the smile I had the entire time. I went ahead and purchased the "Meet and Greet" after the show. Proceeds go to Foodbank. Standing with Cheech and Chong and talking with them, and being called "Son-in Law Named Jeff" was like being in one of their movies and so surreal and enjoyable I won't ever forget it. Really super nice guys who are still funny as hell. Don't miss the show!

I went to see Cheech & Chong and Tommy s wife. Tower of Power as well as WAR. What a great performance. These guys are smokin. Yes They have it happening. All their HJOKES were up to date with the current events in mind. There skits and Tommy s strumming was great. It actually brought me back to the 70 s. Up in smoke, and the other movies they made. It was well worth the price I paid for myself and my Son. Thanks Cheech and Chong it was a blast, and I was not even high.

The Cheech and Chong Revue was a blast! Tommy Chong's wife Shelby was the MC, and her comedy routines were cute, if not hysterically funny. Tower of Power opened with a really strong set- the horns were tight and the vocals were soulfully good. Cheech and Chong wove their routines in between the two acts- great vintage stuff like Basketball Jones, Mexican-Americans, Dave's Not Here, and a scene from Up in Smoke. War performed a solid set, in spite of original member Lonnie Jordan's occasional tendency to ramble a bit. They did their "hit list"- Me and Baby Brother, Slippin' into Darkness, Spill the Wine, Low Rider, and an audience participation version of Cisco Kid. The show closed with a spirited rendition of Why Can't We Be Friends, performed by the entire cast and crew. Three plus hours of solid entertainment!

Power of Tower really was an impressive band. I have never heard of them before this concert but a friend of mind said he had seen them many times and they were awesome. Really great, really tight band. War was also awesome. I used to brag about having the 8-track tape, but now I finally get to see them in person. Really great performance. Cheech & Chong have been some of my favorite comedians growing up. It was really a treat to see them live.

I really enjoyed this show. The mixture of comedy skits and music was well balanced as opposed to strictly stand up. Both bands were excellent

After reading so many negative reviews, I went in with low expectations for the concert at Woodstock (Bethel Woods). I was pleasantly surprised that we did not encounter timing issues such as at other locations with intermissions, etc. There was only one intermission for approximately 15-20 minutes to allow the stage crew to break down the set from Tower of Power and set up for War. The format of the show was the opening schtick by Shelby. She is not horrible as suggested by others but I could have done without her solo stuff since I have heard it all before from her and quite honestly after seeing comics like Lisa Lampanelli there is nothing that Shelby can do to shock me. But her solo time was brief enough and then she brought the boys out for the faux question and answer. Yes, it is canned questions and answers but comedy (except for true improv) is mostly canned/scripted anyway so it was a nice way to get introduced to them in person. Tower of Power came out and they were great. I had never seen them live and they put on an excellent show. The lead singer has an amazing voice and the band is very tight all throughout the set. C&C did a couple of their classic songs with the band at first including Basketball Jones so it was a good seque to Tower of Power doing their own material after the initial intro songs. More Shelby and more C&C skits between Tower of Power and War could best be described as "comfort food" comedy. Ever been on the road for a while and stop off for a meal in an unassuming little diner where something as simple as meat loaf and mashed potatoes just tastes "right" and you forget about being away from home - well, the old time skits felt like that. They were updated to a certain extent but it was nice to hear them done live after all these years. Is it the best stand up out there? No, but it did hit the spot. War came out with their one remaining original member and they seemed to need a song or two to get in sync with each other but by the time they did their hits it was all memory lane - and fond memories at that. Both C&C took their "solos" with War with Chong playing his blind blues guitarist character (and doing it quite well) before Cheech came out as the classic Alice Bowie. There is something about a not quite yet septuagenarian stoner in a pink tutu that elicits roars of approval from the crowd. The harmonica solo of the Star Spangled Banner had the crowd on its feet out of respect for the flag and that sequed into the final number, the classic "Why Can't We Be Friends". The attendance was only at about 60% of capacity, but all were friends by the time the audience dispersed. 3 1/2 hours in length with just the right amount of set time by both Tower of Power and War. I didn't clock the amount of time C&C were on stage either doing skits with just the two of them or jamming with the bands, but I would say other than their names I wouldn't necessarily describe them as the headlining act but 1/3 of a well timed and paced show.

I was surprised that Cheech and Chong still had the chemistry and appeared to have a good time on stage. They added some modern twists to the old acts and had a really good format for the show. I was not aware that the band WAR was half of the show. War is not my type of music (Except lowrider) however the musicians are very talented so I could enjoy the music. 2 intermissions and 4 hours later I would say I was pleased with the show and would see it again… only thing to make it better was to have a meet and photo opp.

Sadly as I ve said in multiple other places online seeing Cheech & Chong at the Sands Event Center in South Bethlehem last night was a huge disappointment. :( The 7:00 PM show started late at 7:15 Tommy Chong s wife Shelby aka an old bimbo sucked at being the opening comedian, Tommy should ve asked his much funnier daughter Precious Chong to open instead. Then they had a quick Q & A and Tommy hogged the spotlight. The Q & A would ve been better had they actually let the audience ask the questions instead of Shelby reading from cards supplied not by the audience. C&C did a few songs with imitation WAR (only one original member, 5 of the other original members tour under the name The Low Rider Band) Then there was a 20 minute break I swear C&C were on for 15 minutes At 7:50 imitation WAR played what seemed like endlessly and none of the songs were hits. Break number two was 20 minutes more at what time…no lie it was 8:50 At this point I am like what the heck ? Am I at a WAR concert with Cheech & Chong making a guest appearance ? Finally Cheech & Chong Hit the stage at 9:05 and go right into an abridged version of their Classic Dave skit which could ve been a high (pun intended) light had they done the whole thing. The guys were still smoking at their later ages of 64 & 74 and I understand they are older but the comedy was pretty solid and just when you had hoped that they d keep at it….cos you are laughing your ass off we head into break number 3 for 20 more minutes at 9:30 PM…then fake WAR plays another loooooooooong as set till about 10:30 when Tommy Joins the band..I couldn t stand it…so I split, my friends Steph & Diane said right after Cheech came out as Alice Bowie (His pink tutu punker)..But it wasn t worth it to me to stick around…I actually walked out during Fake WAR s second set and just hung by the snack bar and in the Vision Bar talking to Steph.

These guys were great!!! Seeing Cheech & Tommy was like old times. The jokes were the old classics but modernized references too. Tommy's wife added a lot. Considering their ages (and mine) nothing was missing. Tommy did soap box a little regarding his arrest in 2003, but it was a bad deal, and I really can't blame him. They have not grown up and that was the best part!!! Great Job Cheech & Chong!!!!!

Cheech & Chong were so funny I had tears running down my face. I remember buying and hiding their albums from my parents. We were forbidden to listen to them, but it never stopped us. The Venue was a good venue for this comedy team.

Rather than hearing numerous comedy skits, we were subjected to listening to the fiilthy, crude rantings of Tommy Chong's wife. When the comedy duo finally came on stage, they only did three skits and the rest of the show was a wash. Very disappointing.

The Paramount as usual is a very good venue. However I didn't love the show. There were funny moments and not so funny moments. The show was very short. The funniest part of the show was Chongs song as an old jazz guy. The Trump jokes and comments were not funny and made for an awkward moment. Im glad I went to see them once but wouldn't see them again.

It breaks my heart to say anything negative about these guys, because I absolutely adore them both! I expected to see and hear at least a few references and bits on the hilarious work they performed on their many albums. After all, this is why I believe, most of us are such great fans. The movies were great, but the albums are what made these two men so endearing to us all. There was barely nothing done from the albums, a few bits from the movies and the rest of it was discussion and song. I loved seeing them, but for $80.00 a ticket to see only an hour and a half of them performing, in which at least 1/2 hr. was taken up by Tommy's wife, although precious, was not what I was so excited about when I went. Still love these guys with all my heart, but wouldn't bother paying that kind of money to see them again. Would have just loved to hear "Sister Mary Elephant", "Let's make a Dope Deal" or Ralphie the dog and his side kick. : ( Although, seeing Cheech in his pink tutu was worth the money!! : )

Applaud Cheech & Chong for comeback efforts, but the show was extremely disappointing and in my opinion, VERY, VERY HAMMY! There were some bright & funny moments, e.g. their Up in Smoke bit, Blind Melon Chitlin, but the rest of the show was just awful! I wasn't the only one from that era to think so and left early :)

Thought this was Cheech and Chong not plus Chong's wife. She thought she was funny. She was awful and no one laughed at her painful jokes. We came for the guys not the Barbie doll. And she insisted on staying on stage most of the show like a baby sitter.

Venue is really bad for a comedy show. All seats on one level so vision is impaired. Show started with Tommy's wife telling old tired doper jokes. I came to see Cheech and Chong not her. The rest was the guys doing some of the old great stuff, with the exception of Tommy doing a Trump bashing. Really could care less about his politics just be funny!

Starting with a beautiful woman, turned out to be Tommy's wife, that had a mouth of a sailor on her. Continued with the boys joining her. Maybe I had to be 17 again or wasted, but I laughed about 2-minutes in an hour-and-a-half show. Poor taste, old jokes that no longer resonate. Should have spent the cash on the products they are proponents of instead. I do applaud them for bringing the marijuana-culture to the masses as a non-threatening aide to health and relaxation, but humor was a huge miss! Never again.

Show was awesome and everything I expected 150 for ticket ok but extra 150 VIP sucked! Sorry but I was shocked at how that was ran. Really was explained different. Told we would met them and hang out for a little while as well as ask questions. This was my 19yr old birthday event and total of 600.00 for 2 tickets and VIP( past they gave a special poster, pin, or T-shirt) this had nothing but them sitting behind a table not really a met and greet!

This is not a negative review about the venue, instead its a negative review about the act. Worst event I have ever paid for. Cheech and Chong just are not funny anymore. I am not sure what they were doing on stage, but it wasn't comedy. We walked out early because it was intolerable and a waste of time. Sorry guys, but it is time to hang it up. Obviously these two and Chong's wife are just cashing in on past glory days.

Through high school and college, I was a devoted Cheech & Chong fan. I bought their albums and caught their flicks. So in a way, throwing down $75/ticket was my way of re-living my youth. I was looking forward to cracking up laughing and rolling in the aisle. The moment I walked in the arena, I knew this was a bad idea. It was empty. No lines for beer or the bathroom. No opening act except Mrs. Chong trying hard to do stand up comedy that fell flat. Cheech & Chong did their old comedy bits as if on automatic pilot, no new material, no local humor. Frankly, it was hard to watch. A couple of old dudes replaying 40 year old comedy. And to top it off, Mrs. Wong announced if you pay $175, you could go back stage and have a photograph with them! This is a reminder, some things are best left in the past...Bummer, dude.

Brought back memories of the Movies. Very good act but could use some new acts. Was not told till end of show about meet and greet. Had to have cash and at 140.00 was not affordable. I have heard of others that meet their fans for free because they already support them by buying tickets. I went with my mom thanks to my wonderful wife that bought them so we could have a night out together. Would go and see again if they ever came back.

Shelby Chong is very funny. She assisted throughout the show. It s like she helped the show flow. There were both stand up and skit type funny moments. Some not so much. Cheech s Redneck skit was not funny while the Ballerina guitar player was. Overall the show was good just not as funny as I had hoped. I would rate a 6 out of 10. Just nastalgic to see the old fellows. Tommy Chong s Netflix Special was much funnier. No encore.
