Tacuba is a section of northwest Mexico City. It sits on the site of ancient Tlacopan. Tacuba was an autonomous municipality until 1928, when it was incorporated into the Central Department along with the municipalities of Mexico, Tacubaya and Mixcoac.
How did Cafe Tacuba influence music? Their flare for presenting a mix of rock, new wave and regional Mexican sounds with light-hearted irreverence made them a sensation on the club scene in Mexico City, and caught the attention of then up-and-coming Argentine producer Gustavo Santaolalla.
Why is Cafe Tacuba important?
Café Tacuba has earned its reputation as Mexico's most visionary rock band precisely because there has never been much that's traditionally rock about it. Its previous homages have skewed less toward the Who and more toward the Mexican ranchera legend Chavela Vargas and the Dominican merengue-pop star Juan Luis Guerra.
