The fame of Ratray is mostly associated with the movie called "Home Alone," where he played Kevin's older brother Buzz McCallister. It appeared that Ratray could show himself as a talented performer, playing a bully but making his character memorable for the audience at the same time. When the 1992 sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" was released, the character became very popular once again, becoming familiar to millions of Americans.

The role of Buzz in two Home Alone movies brought Ratray recognition and fame, but at the same time it could limit the development of the actor, making him stuck at the childish and funny character. At least it happens this way for many other performers. Yet, Ratray has managed not to stay at that stage in his development and move in the direction of his talent and interests.

Projects like "Nebraska" and "Blue Ruin" prove his ability to work in an independent cinema where each role should show some special detail to the story and the actor should not give something simple or cartoon-like. These projects prove Ratray's ability to develop as an actor without repeating his old popular role of Kevin's older brother over and over again.

As for an acting career in television, it can be quite difficult to see how the professional actor performs in it for a long period and in many series. It happens due to a specific character the actor takes or due to different reasons. However, such experience can also show the talent, and the ability of the actor to perform in television for many years proves him to be an excellent professional, not an accidental star.

Moreover, Ratray has chosen quite an unusual path for himself compared to many other actors. The childhood recognition often limits the actor from further work as the person cannot play adult roles any longer. On the other hand, in case of Ratray, this fame did not become a trap for him, limiting the future of his career, as the actor accepts the part which has made him well-known and moves further in different projects and roles.
