This was so great. Very talented cast and moving/engaging story line. I had only seen Wicked on Broadway prior to this, so I was unsure how I would adapt to a more "normal" story setting. I ended up loving it. There were very good and real moments that were so relateable. You rejoiced in accomplishments that the protagonist Liz/Beth encountered, and ached when her heart ached. The original Seats we had would have been okay enough, but we move down into the mezzanine because the show wasn't sold out. They view form our mezzanine seas was definitely better because some stage props took up space in the upper half of the view.

I knew just a little about the storyline of the new Broadway musical "If/Then" and had heard some of the songs and enjoyed those. The main reason I wanted to see this show was because it had members of the original Broadway cast, specifically the incredible Idina Menzel. Idina is one of my favorite human beings ever and she is so talented, it has always been a dream of mine to see her perform in a show live. So of course when I heard that Idina would be in Arizona with this touring cast, I HAD to be there. I brought two of my friends who also love theatre and Idina. We had an amazing time. Idina absolutely slayed and was phenomenal. She is even more amazing live than I could have ever imagined! Also, Anthony Rapp was in the show and he was excellent as well. All the performances were stunning and I was pleasantly surprised with the show itself, as I did not know it that well prior to seeing it. Many cast members came outside after to meet fans, and I got a picture with Anthony Rapp which put me over the moon. Overall, an enjoyable experience and very memorable time!

It wasn't difficult for me to want to go see the original 4 cast members who are all amazing in the LA production. I usually get a little sleepy in all shows because that's just the way it goes. But this is one I was wide awake the entire time and would love to see it again! Music, acting and design was top-notch for opening night!!!!

If/Then has an amazing story that everyone can take from. It's funny, it's sad, and it's everything in between. It portrays how life is without sugar coating it. I saw it twice this week, once with Idina Menzel, and once with her understudy. Both blew me away. It is my favorite musical by far and I think everyone needs to see it at least once.

The opportunity to see the original Broadway cast in a touring company is rare so this show was a special treat. Idina Menzel was amazing and carries the show most of the time. She is matched with other great talents who also shine. The show is complex and longer than most musicals but worth it, for sure.

Let me just say that the singing was phenomenal! I'm not much of a theatre person going into this but I did consider myself as a low-key fan of Idina's and that was the main reason why I went to see this in the first place but I just have to say that everyone has got to hear Idina in a musical at some point in their lives. The minute she started singing, I was just blown away. I really can't get over her voice and I love that she sings the songs a little differently every time. I also have to say that LaChanze blew me away as well. She brings her A-game in both acting and singing every time. Janine, POWERFUL VOICE. Anthony's voice was amazing as well especially in the song Ain't No Man Manhattan. I could go on with every individual. Also, I'd like to add that in my opinion, everyone's acting was so much better when performing in LA compared to the 2 times I saw it in San Francisco a couple of weeks before. I'm not sure if that's a good thing but I'm just glad I decided to see it in LA as well. The musical itself was okay. Overall, storyline was a tad confusing and that's coming from someone who read about it online beforehand. This was my 3rd time seeing it so I've already had the entire storyline down but I remember being a little confused about certain parts the first time I saw it because it switches off from Beth and Liz so it was hard to follow. I think it helps a lot if you sit where you can actually see the actors because the only difference between Liz and Beth appearance wise is her glasses and you have to really try to remember what happens to which one of them. I've sat in the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd row for the times I've seen this and I think it really helps if you can see when she changes characters. One thing though about this specific theatre is the sound. At one point, Idina and Daren were near the back of the stage and I could barely hear them singing. It's odd because their mics were on since it was also their part of the song and I was able to hear them clearly when I saw the at the Orpheum. Small problem since it was only during that short part out of the entire musical.

Overall if you have the opportunity to see this show, it's worth it just to hear Idina Menzel perform live! The storyline is a bit convoluted and choppy. There are no show stopper songs that really captivate you and the supporting cast is hit and miss. I was happy for the experience but wouldn't see it again.

If/Then is a contemporary musical that reflects life back. It makes you think the what if's in your life? You gotta pay attention though or the plot will be confusing since it diverts to two paths. Idina Menzel is a real powerhouse with such a magnetic charm on stage. LaChanze is a energetic ball of fun and the rest of the cast is wonderful. Good thing I got to see the 4 broadway stars on this tour stop.

I can see why some people either hated it or loved it. They started very shaky, the story is hard to follow for some, the songs are very hard to sing and I give them all kudos, the sound was too loud and painful in certain parts of the stage, duets and chorus was weak and sometimes clashed with notes, love the theme but it is hard to follow, Tamyra was extraordinary, diction of chorus, main star and other actors could have been better in singing together , the males all had excellent voices and did well, the primary star got better as the play went on and it's a hard role,, but alllll that said- I loved it

Before you see it, understand that their are two timelines intertwined. Fate can go one way or the other and this musical shows two possible outcomes. Once you are aware that their is a "Beth" timeline and "Liz" timeline, it's truly an imaginative and very well written show with excellent songs. I enjoyed everything about it.

Performances were consistently vibrant however occasional screeching in the upper registers indicated singers were simply trying too hard. The story line of essentially never really knowing what the future holds, became muddled at times as the author apparently wanted to confuse the audience.

Loving musical theatre, I thought this was the play for me. However, the first few minutes did not 'grab' me; I feared that perhaps this was a 'new wave' musical that might not be one of my favorites. After 20-30 minutes, I realized that the premise of simultaneous stories was very clever, that the voices, music, actors were extraordinary, and I did care about these characters. Isn't that what defines our favorite books, films or plays? Our perspective changes when the tale is realistic and we're curious about the next steps. In this case, the two scenarios maintained the suspense and attraction of the plot. Jackie's a phenomenon, not unlike Idina Menzel or Barbra Streisand; her performance was stellar...........even on a Sunday evening at the end of a very long week w/ many performances. Yes, I do love musicals - especially those that make me think about my own life :)

I was absolutely mesmerized by the talent of this cast. The characters are well developed and the musical numbers keep you pulsing along with the storyline. My favorite song was You Learn to Live Without. I have been playing it in my head for several days. It's the kind of story that is so rich that I would love to see it again. I laughed and cried, then laughed and cried some more. You don't want to miss this!

While there are certainly funny moments throughout this incredibly long performance, this play has far too many twists and turns to comprehend. The main Character, who's life is chronicled down 2 separate paths, is not a person you end up liking very much, no matter what decisions she makes. She's just not a likable character. I found myself wishing it had ended 30 minutes early.

The best thing about If/Then is that most of the Broadway cast has joined the national tour! The story follows Elizabeth, who is returning to New York after a divorce, and the two different paths she could take to start over and the events that unfold after. The singing was amazingly strong and the set was minimalist but exciting. The beginning starts off a little slow but as soon as you start to see the differences (in either Liz or Beth), you try to figure out which path would be the better one. And then you realize, there is no right path. Tragedy and success can happen no matter what path you choose. It's an interesting concept and by the end, you were captivated.

Boring. Boring. Boring. As someone who sees just about everything on and off Bway, as well as regional and tours, I have to say this was the most uninspired, dull musical I've ever seen. Not only is the storyline less than captivating, but the performances, set and staging were mediocre high school drama club quality. That said, Jackie Burns has a terrific voice and does her best to breathe life in to this production. She's as talented as Idina Menzel. They both deserve better material than this.

Every moment was wonderful, the constant changes in sets and subject, the talent by each and every performer was amazing. The stars Jackie Burns, Anthony Rapp, Tamyra Gray, Mathew Hydzik, Janine Divita, Jaques Smith, Marc Delacruz, English Bernhardt, Charrissa Bertels, Xavier Cano, Trey Ellett, individually incredible and the chemistry within the entire cast flooded into the audience. The play was attended by three generations, a very young 91 year old grandmother, the daughter 51, and the grandson and his friend, both 18 years of age. One could not possibly say who enjoyed it more as it was loved by all. Bravo, Bravo to all of the cast.

The plot of a women named Elizabeth and portrayed as either Liz or Beth required concentration regarding whether she was in a blue light or red light, which pocketbook or glasses she was wearing, etc. Sometimes the plot was hard to follow, but the singing was great. I saw this in DC during the pre-Broadway run and was anxious to see the final version. It's hard to follow until you 'get' that there are differences between the two paths that Elizabeth takes. Jackie Burns is great! She's followed Idina Menzel as the lead in both this and WICKED. I've been lucky enough to see her in both. She has a voice like buttah. If/Then is a thinking person's show and if you pay attention, you'll find it's not only entertaining, but will make you stop and look at some of the choices you've made and how things could have been different if you had chosen a different path.

First the good - the singing was exceptional and the actors were terrific ! Now the bad - the play content was really bad. The great singing and acting could not make up for a poor script which was hard to follow and in some cases made absolutely no sense. There was very little talking dialog as most of the "talking" was set to music which had no rhythm. The first act was like 1.5 hours long and if the musical had ended there it would have been OK with me. But the second act was just as long and got even more bizarre. I was glad when it ended and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend...

The worst play I have ever seen. I was really surprised. The performers were fantastic and the venue was superb. However, the story was worse than a day-time TV drama written by high school kids. When you have to repeatedly say "what the fuck," to get a few giggles, it is a sign of cheap, lazy writing. I am not a prude and like a good crude expression every once in awhile, but this appeared to be used as a less than funny crutch to prop up a pitiful story. DPAC is a great venue. I took my 14 year old niece to see this while she was visiting me on Spring Break. She is into theater and loves musicals. Did not know much about the show and checked some info online and it seemed like an interesting show and storyline and looked like something she would likely enjoy. This show did not disappoint at all. Loved the parallel storylines with Liz and Beth and the story moved along at a good pace. It was hard to believe that it was 2.5 hours long; it was so involving that the time flew by. Jackie Burns was terrific and has an amazing voice. She really knocked her numbers out of the park, especially "Always Starting Over" and her duet with (the excellent) Anthony Rapp: "Here I Go." Everyone in the cast was wonderful: Tamyra Gray, Matthew Hydzik, Janine DiVita and all the others. Great job folks! You were all amazing. This was a memorable and very enjoyable night at the theater. My niece was wowed (and moved; bring some Kleenex, there are some sad moments...) but we both thoroughly enjoyed it. She is involved with Drama Club at school and the choir and all of the performing arts related things so she thought this was just a great show. I agree with her. Kudos to all the cast and crew and orchestra. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the orchestra was a little loud and would tend to drown out some of the lyrics, but it did not happen often enough to be an annoyance; it was just noticeable when it did happen. Your hard work showed and paid off for us! Best wishes to all of you on the rest of the tour; hope your future audiences enjoy it as much as ours did on Thursday night 03/31/2016.

This is the story of how our decisions create a chain of events to form a life -path-story. It helps to read a synopsis of the storyline prior to attending the performance. Then sit back and enjoy the complexity and textures of two alternative life paths for the character Liz / Beth and those people in her life. The opening act sets up the two If/Then stories that you will jump between throughout the performance.

I like the staging. The cast is superb all the way through - singing and acting. I saw Charissa Bertels (understudy) as Kate - she was wonderful in the part. She could easily be promoted to the role full time. The story line is clever - following both paths of the fork in the road. But for me the only demerit is that the songs don't grab me. But the cast does a beautiful job performing the songs. Jackie Burns is worth the price of admission herself.

I've seen many musicals over the years (as in over 40, in at least four different major cities) and chose to see this one based on the acclaim it had received while on Broadway. We went on the night it opened in Detroit. Truly, this is now one of my favorite musicals - the acting was impressive, the voices sublime but the staging was nothing less than brilliant. To keep two separate story lines moving forward and around each other as if they were in a dance was nothing less than stage-crafting genius. Kudos to the director just as much as to the actors in this show! I would highly recommend this relatively "unknown" musical (most people I've spoken to have never heard of it) to anyone wanting to enjoy a truly modern work that hits all emotions and is a beautiful experience. As a woman who was "starting over" around the same age as the main character, I found many touchstones within the dialog and lyrics that resonated strongly with me. Huge props to the lead, Jackie Burns, who is in every scene (except maybe two?) and who's voice and talent stays strong throughout. It was also great to get to see Anthony Rapp perform live after admiring his performances over the years.

Having no idea beyond "it's a love story", it took longer than I thought it would to catch on to the patterns of telling time and storyline in the two (or is it more?) timelines. I am so appreciative we get Broadway across America here in Mpls. We get the same quality of talent/stage production/music that one can see in NYC but here at home. If/Then was another example. The lead who played Liz/Beth sounded exactly like Idina Menzel, and could belt out every song like it was a blockbuster. I loved the music and acting. The story could be a bit confusing (which character is she now?) but overall it was a well done story and show. Thanks much Broadway Across America!

I don't understand all the hype about this poorly written musical. It was not difficult to follow the duel story lines but the adolescent need to include every social concern, none of which was developed, was tiresome. It's 2016, do we really need a kindergarten teacher to point out that that more men than women are cited in history as "Heroes"? I was also bothered by the neediness of the main character. There is the assumption that all her happiness hinged on the choices she made and relationships that she established with men. As a women in her mid 60's, I say enough. Let's not move backwards by viewing ourselves and our options in terms of our relationships with men. Most men don't even buy that any more. Obvious that the man who wrote this is a bit out of step. To compensate for a weak script and narrative the songs required dramatic "belting out" to hold our attention. Weak music used to be compensated by lots of brass now it's an Idina Menzel/Ethel Merman like mouth.

Great play and the music was wonderful. While a little confusing at times, the story was very compelling. I definitely recommend If/Then.

As I am an Idina fan and only got the tickets in hopes of seeing her, I was pleasantly surprised at how great this was, even without her! Anthony Rapp was as amazing as always. The music is amazing! The lead character had an awesome voice. All in all, a great evening for me.

I finally got to see the one and only Idina in person and she was awesome! The first half is a bit confusing and not as good as the second half. Make sure to stick it out

What a wonderful production with an ensemble of powerhouse voices! The only trouble I had was understanding the lyrics of the ensemble songs. The solos and duets were clear, but when they tried to blend all of the voices it was a bit muddled.

Had no idea what the show was about, but went to see Idina Menzel and she did not disappoint. This show was amazing and the cast was great. Would definitely recommend this show to anyone, especially the female crowd. Many themes that everyone can relate to. Language can be an issue, so if you bring young children, be warned. Humourous and modern.

The storyline was very confusing. I wasn't the only one trying to figure out if we were in the "Liz" story or the "Beth" story.

My wife and I were excited to see Idina Menzel in IF/Then at ASU Gammage. We booked late and got Balcony seats. On reflection, we should not have gone. The musical was fast moving and based on the premise of decisions can lead to significantly different experiences. The two paths from the singular decision in this case were interweaved in the dialog, along the lines of Sliding Doors. Unfortunately the fast moving dialog (aka New York style) and the terrible acoustics of our viewing location were not compatible. We missed the essence of the musical and that led to a horrible experience for us. Never again.

The only redeeming features of this play were the singing and some of the music. The story alternates between two potential life experiences bases on the arbitrary choice of the main character. There is no conflict between good and evil; there is only the subjective choice between the suggestions of two friends that create the fork in the road. The story spends its time jumping from one "reality" to the other, often without notice or warning, leaving the audience to figure out after some dialog (often in a song) which "reality" is being presented. The aforementioned two friends of the main character are gay, but for no apparent reason. There are also some jokes and buckets of foul language that add nothing to the main story, which plods along like a soap opera on Melatonin. Finally, there is no resolution at the end (because there is nothing to resolve) and one gets the impression that the story could have ended sooner or dragged on indefinitely. Thankfully, it ended before I fell asleep. Don't waste your time on this show.

This was a very professional Broadway production with a great cast and exceptional stagecraft, including great special effect lighting, a rotating stage, and sets. The Gammage apparently installed a new sound system recently, but the voices were too harsh and needed to be acoustically softened. Apparently that was not possible, and this is the best Broadway available in the western desert.

the scenery was fantastic, The singing by the lead actress was not. Even with the earphones provided by the venue, i could not understand most of her words. My wife who has pretty good hearing said the same.

Ididna Menzel is fantastic, and delivers an amazing performance in If/Then. The rest of the cast is also fantastic, especially LaChanze and Anthony Rapp. The music is great. The story is also well planned and executed. I would absolutely recommend this play to anyone!

I made the (somewhat crazy) trek from Ohio to Arizona just so that I could see a performance with Idina, and I must say that I would do it all over again. I'm grateful that I didn't see the show at an earlier tour destination, because I feel like I would have been booking flight after flight following this remarkable cast around and watching them in awe. Idina was perfection, and the additions of other original Broadway casters like Anthony Rapp, LaChanze, and James Snyder made this show unforgettable and life-changing. This was a bucket-list opportunity for me, and this show really left a lasting impression. I can't say enough about how this show will make an impact - you will laugh and cry with the cast, and leave the theatre better than when you arrived.

This was a refreshing new musical. Idena Menzel was fabulous! At times the sound was a bit loud, but over all loved the show. We were at the Saturday matinee and they signed the show. It was entertaining to watch and added a bonus to the show.

"If/Then" is really long. Well, so is "South Pacific." But "If/Then" has not one single memorable line of music. It has Idina Menzel, who is a Broadway megastar and the reason most people -- including me -- went. And she can be really loud. (And the sound system was tinny.) But the show is all about the two sides of her character, neither of whom is remotely likable. Here's a clue: At the end of the show, the audience stood up, clapped for one bow, and promptly left. Did I mention that the show is really long?

What a privilege to see the original four stars of If/Then on tour! Idina and company were amazing! The story wonderfully weaves through the two timelines, and the second half is filled with conflicting emotions. The ending left me torn between the two timelines and contemplating my own choices in life. The music was fantastic!

The only redeeming quality of the performance was Menzel's voice. The entire show screamed of an amateurish high school production. Corny lyrics, cliched dialogue, you name it, it was bad. This was one of the only shows I've been to where people kept walking out. Do yourself a favor and listen to the sound track from Frozen or Wicked if you want to hear her beautiful voice. Don't throw your money away by seeing this production.
