Sara Bareilles

Sara Bareilles

Long before "Brave" hit the charts in 2013 and became her signature tune alongside the 2007 smash "Love Song," California-based singer songwriter Sara Bareilles's music embodied the word. Finding strength in vulnerability as well as her stomping, striding piano lines, the self-taught musician has made her name exploring the complexity of love and attraction with unflinching honesty and incredibly catchy hooks. Her style is pop in almost the classical sense of the word, with songs that directly relate with ticket buyers no matter what they are predisposed to like, as she shown on tours with the likes of Counting Crows, Maroon 5, and Sugarland. All of that touring paid off on her third full-length studio album, The Blessed Unrest, which debuted at #2 in the spring of 2013, right behind Jay Z.

This show was my first concert and it did not disappoint. Sara was charming, funny and beautiful. She wowed me with her vocals. This show is a musical experience. She really makes you feel her music, her emotion. She's one of the few artists that sounds better live than on record (and she sounds pretty great on record). Her best performances were songs that aren't on any of her albums (Chandelier & a song from an upcoming broadway). I was absolutely blown away. She's arguably the best female vocalist in the industry.

Sara Bareilles is exceptional. Her stage presents is second to none. Her music is current as well as classic. Her voice is unmatched and her showmanship top notch. The production was spectacular. Put this all together and you have one of the best shows of the summer. It doesn't get any better than this.

So first off, Sara Bareilles is incredibly talented!! I just didn't particularly like this show. I've been used to seeing her in smaller venues where it's a much more intimate setting and it's more about her voice and the music composition. This concert had a very different feel and as I said in my "review title" presented a different Sara Bareilles. There were a lot of lights and it was a show, a show show. Music was very loud and I thought it carried over her voice a lot. However, I was still satisfied! She closed with a beautiful acapella rendition of Gravity and had some solo time out on stage. I wish there was more of this and less of the snazzy lights. Those were actually pretty blinding.

I am a big Sara fan, for a few years now. I think she has a wonderful voice and is a consummate entertainer. Tonight's show at LA's Orpheum was decidedly mixed. Sara was at times great, mostly when she played by herself and acapella. The sound system was horrible, or maybe it was the lack of separation, or maybe the wall of sound she has created with this new band. At times Sara's wonderful voice was overwhelmed by the drums and the base. At times the whole wall of sound made her a bit player. I think the whole set up tended to make her look small and sound small, hard to believe. And she didn't come on until 1 hour and 40 mins after the show started. And then only played for an hour + and then an encore. LONG wait by a very loving and tolerant audience. She can't do this too often

Sara can play an awful lot of instruments! She has an amazing voice and she shows her range even more live than in any of her recordings. Unfortunately, because she can't really move around while playing the piano, her energy is restricted to only her singing and playing. Good reactions to the crowd, really worth seeing live.

I have seen her 3 times before but always in a club setting. The Orpheum Theater show was a first class production, including an electronic keyboard made to look like a 1/4 size black baby grand piano and backup graphics. None of thisdetracted from her awesome talent. Her voice was in top shape and her songs always hit home!

Sara was fabulous, but didn't play long enough. She was on stage for about an hour and 15 minutes; pretty short for a headliner. Disappointing, but the hour and 15 minutes was extraordinary!

I'm probably not the typical Sara Bareilles fan being that I'm a straight male in this 30s, but I feel compelled to impress upon everyone how extraordinarily talented she really is. Her albums are well crafted and clever, and she harkens back to an era of singer-songwriters my father raised me on. Where most of her contemporaries would play their songs as if we were listening to the album, Sara deviates in creative ways that make you appreciate her songs that much more. Her acapella version of "Gravity" exudes soul, and who can't get behind a Radiohead cover with an Ukelele? She is a rare act these days that dazzles live without wardrobe changes and elaborate dancing. It some things up, see her live!

For lovers of not just piano-based pop/soul music, but for lovers of music, in general. SB has a musical and lyrical gift, and the impressive ability to lament and sing heartache in a strong and independent way. Always personal, always authentic, and ultimately uplifting, SB performs great music in a manner that is impressive without being uppity.

The opening act with Javier Dunn was ok however when Sara came out for her opening song vegas, she really rocked the house. I really like the whole stage setup compared to her previous concert when she was mainly just playing the piano and singing. She kinda mixed it up a little bit while keeping the most important essence of her performance.

What guy can't appreciate a show with about a 20:1 girl to guy ratio? But that's not about music which is I suppose what people want to read about... Sara had some shining moments, mostly in the stripped down songs with less instruments and more of her stellar voice. I knew her voice was good, but live made me realize that her voice is fantastic. I have a big complaint though...IMO, artists need to stick to the songs that made them famous. I'm not talking about the setist, I'm talking about the way they play the songs. 2 of my favorite SB songs were played way sub-par because they decided not to try and emulate the song as recorded to the album. We like the album. We bought it. A little deviation is fine, but don't try and make it a funk song if it wasn't on the radio. If you want to impress me, add another stanza in the same style. I'm a sucker for alternate/additional lyrics. But don't mess with the style of the sound. I bought my ticket to hear that sound and it's a big disappointment when you stray too far off of it. That said, I was in the balcony of the Orpheum and the sound quality up there was muddled and washed out. Voices were indistinct, instruments blurred together...made me wonder if the reflections in the upper levels were much worse than lower center...

First off let me admit I am not familiar with Sara's work... just her first single.BUT when I saw her on Live from Abbey Road on Sundance I was VERY impressed. I have a 13 daughter and she is in choir and hates auto tune and I knew she would appreciate Sara's vocal work. We were not disappointed. Our favorite parts were the"intimate" parts as sometimes her voice got lost in the mix when the band (FANTASTIC) was playing. We bought some merch the new cd and a t-shirt and had a great time. Also her stage banter was great

The venue was small-ish and intimate, and Sara commanded our attention like She was warm, hilarious, genuine, and sang her heart out for us. She incorporated her piano, two guitars, and her harmonium. All I can say is that recorded tracks do nothing to express the full range and beauty and talent of this woman! She is unforgettably humble, loving, and truly a gift to the world. So glad we got the opportunity to see her perform; can't wait for her next tour!

I absolutely loved this show! The venue was a great size, and the crowd had a great vibe to it- no one was too pushy and everyone was really nice. Joshua Radin was a great opener! He sang really well and I'm definitely going to check out more of his music :) Sara Bareilles ROCKED IT! She says she had laryngitis, but I don't believe her because her voice sounded so amazing. She actually sang Gravity without any supporting music and it sounded absolutely incredible. She is an amazing performer, and has a great sense of humor as well! Hands down, one of the BEST concerts I have been to! Sara is engaging, talented, humble and such a phenomenal musician and singer. She does like to curse, but it was not excessive, or uncomfortable :0) So friendly with her audience and spoke directly to people in the front rows. Sara even came out to introduce Joshua Radin and thanked everyone for being at her show. Sara brought her sister out for one of her three encore songs. A great show, a great time and I can't wait for another Sara Bareilles concert!

Liking a good amount of Sara's songs, I was looking forward to the concert. What I did not know was how amazing her voice live is. I was blown away after the first song (Unchartered) and did not want her to stop fifteen songs later. The setlist was a great mix of both of her albums. I only missed one of my favorite songs - "Hold My Heart". Her outstanding voice was well supported by the band.

We packed into the casino venue, surrounded by interesting characters, all of whom clearly love Sara. There was so much love in the room, in fact, my heart swelled a bit, and I didn't mind the kids who were pushing amongst us, trying to get closer. And then...the lights went down...her band came onstage...and, like the true performer she is...Sara made a grand entrance to the cheers of adoring fans, young and old! Dressed to the nines in a little striped mini dress with a brown leather biker jacket, sheer azure hose and high heeled brown lace-up ankle boots, hair twisted up on top of her pretty head, she stood (that's right...STOOD...well, squatted) at her piano and pounded out the first tune, all the while, cracking jokes and flirting unmercifully with the audience. She is absolutely adorable, in the sweetest, sexiest, most non-threatening way. Every song was a masterpiece, and when, during the last song of her second encore, a young man in the audience started playing the sax he somehow was allowed to bring in, she just smiled at him and looked down from her piano, raising one eyebrow, as if to say, "Really, dude?" Sara B is a class act...a phenomenal performer from the inside out. The love she feels for her fans is expressed openly onstage...and even if you were deaf, you'd see it in her eyes. If you ever get the chance to hear her play in person, grab it with both hands and hang on! It's gonna be a good ride... :)

For starters: both of the opening acts were phenomenal. I was not familiar with either Ximena Sarinana or Elizabeth and the Catapult, but as soon as each started to play, I was hooked. They brought a great sound to start the evening off with. Sara was amazing, of course! She was as graceful as could be. The sound she and her spectacular band produced was just as good, if not better, than that on the recordings you hear on the radio. The covers she chose were all very well received and allowed to keep the audience guessing. It was a perfect evening and worth arriving two hours early to be right up against the stage so I could make eye contact with everyone on the stage!

It s all uncharted. Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles took the UC Berkeley Greek Theatre by storm last The performance was the last stop on her Little Black Dress tour. Sara crisscrossed the country this summer, mostly playing songs from her newest album, The Blessed Unrest. It s a new album, with a new, more electronic sound, she s backed by a new band, and is sporting a new, glamorous style. In under 8 years, Bareilles has gone from singing in a UCLA a cappella group and playing small venues in LA, to being a celebrity judge on The Sing-Off, living in New York, writing music for the Broadway adaptation of the film Waitress, and performing with Carole King at the Grammy Awards. Her first major studio album, Little Voice, debuted on the US Billboard 200 at number 45, selling about 16,000 copies in its first week. Her latest album, The Blessed Unrest, debuted at number 2 on the Billboard200, only behind Jay-Z\u2018s Magna Carta\u2026 Holy Grail. It sold 68,000 copies in its first week of release. It can t be a mistake if I just call it change. Things have certainly changed for Sara B. Her ability to evolve and innovate her material is what keeps her work so compelling. The crowd at the Greek Theatre last night was incredibly diverse well, not in gender, but at least in age. Tween girls at their very first concert were belting out Brave alongside 30-somethings who have been singing Gravity as their bad relationship anthem for years. But one thing hasn t changed. One thing brought the crowd of over 8,000 people together last night. Sara s unique ability to speak truthfully. Because I found I was made to be exactly like me. I ve been preaching the weighty words of Sanford Meisner to my students this week: Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances. This is what makes a performance real and compelling. What makes it difficult is that we often have difficulty behaving truthfully in real circumstances forget about imaginary circumstances. Maybe it s her theatrical background. Maybe it s just good parents. But Sara Bareilles seems to have mastered this art. Everything about her show comes off as earnest and real. She is funny. She is profound. She is vulnerable. She is hard as nails. There is a point to every one of her songs. I wanna see you be brave. Last year, after her move from LA to New York, Sara embarked on the Brave Enough Tour: A Special Solo Journey. She left her band behind, and went back to the beginning. Playing small venues without any opening acts or backup musicians. She played piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukelele, and squeeze box. No videos, effects, or spectacle. Just Sara and her music. She sang: Once upon another time Somebody s hands who felt like mine Turned the key and took a drive Was free Highway curve, the sun sank low Buckley on the radio Cigarette was burning slow So breathe Just yellow lines and tire marks And sun-kissed skin and handle bars And where I stood was where I was to be No enemies to call my own No porch light on to pull me home And where I was is beautiful Because I was free I ll get my little black dress on. Last night s setting was completely different. Sara played all of her usual instruments, but she was also backed by a six-piece band. Drums, guitar, bass, cello, violin, and keyboard. She also has three new female backup singers. But Sara and her message remained the same. Be brave. Be yourself. Don t date douchebags. Between making fun of Berkeley fans for cheering for the word cantaloupe and an impromptu verse of Let s Get Physical, Sara moved the crowd with her stories of her difficult decision to leave LA (and a relationship) to start anew in New York, and dedicated her song Hercules to anyone struggling with depression. She performed new arrangements of classics such as Love Song, Gravity and Come Round Soon. And joy of joys she premiered a song from her new musical, Waitress. The last finale of the night was a performance of the song Satellite Call. As Sara sang, the audience became dotted with white lights. Each of us, a small satellite reaching out to someone else. The song says: This one s for the lonely child Brokenhearted, running wild This was written for the one to blame One who believe they are the cause of chaos and everything You may find yourself in the dead of night Lost somewhere up in the great big beautiful sky You were all just perfect little satellites Spinning round and round this broken earthly life This is so you ll know the sound Of someone who loves you from the ground Tonight you re not alone at all This is me sending out my satellite call This is so you ll know the sound Of someone who loves you from the ground Tonight you re not alone at all This is me sending out my satellite call In her song, Chasing the Sun, Sara asks: So how do you do it, With just words and just music, capture the feeling That my earth is somebody s ceiling How do you pay homage to the past without dwelling on it? How do you look into the vast unknown future without feeling terrified? Sara may not feel like she has the answers, but for so many of us who listen to her music, she shines a bright, bright light of truth.

Sara Bareilles was amazing! Her voice is even more beautiful live than listening to her on a cd. (If that is even possible!) She is fun, funny, and puts on such a wonderful show! I really enjoyed the videos and lights going on behind the musicians. She had a great mix of old songs and new songs, and made them all fresh.

Awesome show in every way. She is one of the top live acts I have ever seen and I will say I have seen them all in the past 40 years. Pure, real and a kick ass voice. Great venue to see her at the Greek, I am sure she will headline here many more times.

Went for my girlfriend and her sister's Bday. It was a lot of fun. The sound was fantastic. Every instrument was clear and bass was full. the show was fun to look at. They had a video screen in the back with lyrics of the songs sometime, so it was never a monotone show. Performances were practically flawless. Singing was in tune. Sara was funny, talked with the audience and took selfies for one girl's bday.

This show was a-mazing!! I saw Sara last year at the Variety Playhouse and was pretty convinced that nothing could beat that concert. Buuut, as usual, she rocked it out and we all had an amazing time. I am always impressed seeing Sara live - by her singing ability, musical ability and all-around incredible personality. The acappella version of Bright Lights & Cityscapes was bone-chilling. Can't wait to see her again!

Show was spectacular - so much that we were willing to bake in the heat of the Chastain Amphitheater in Atlanta, GA in JULY....truly very hot....but worth it! Sara's vocals were flawless, her little black dress and stage set-up were sassy, her musicians brought it and her personality was ever-present in that real, personable, funny way of hers! Worth every penny for the 5th Row seats, the 5 hour road trip from Florida, AND the 2-night hotel stay. Have seen her on three different Tours and all have been spectacular. She's the most talented musician I've seen live!

Sara Bareilles was amazing at the Chicago Theatre. She opened with Little Black Dress and included many songs from her Blessed Unrest CD and of course hits from her previous CD's. Sara's upbeat and fun personality engaged the audience and her beautiful voice just shined through on all the songs. So happy I finally got a chance to see her perform live, it was wonderful:) !

Sarah has a way of keeping things intimate no matter how large or small her venue is. I brought my mom with me so she could experience Sarah for the first time and she couldn't say enough about her to her friends after the show. The opening acts were neat and unexpected in some ways but overall I would venture to say this was one of my favorite concerts ever. Pure, raw natural talent at it's best!

This was my 2nd time seeing Sara Bareilles with her entire band and the 3rd time seeing her. She is one of the most genuine and authentic performers of our time. I prefer to listen to her live than radio versions...and so being there and hearing her is always an amazing experience. The venue was acoustically adequate as well. Staff was helpful. Drinks were reasonably priced. Bathroom lines were good.

I've been a huge fan of Sara Bareilles for awhile now and have been wanting to see her live since every performance I've ever seen her give, she sounds amazing. It was not a let down. This girl can seriously sing her butt off. And not only can she sing, but she's an incredible pianist and guitar player. ANDDDD she's hilarious and goofy which I completely appreciate. Her show is exactly the type of show true music lovers will love. No elaborate dance sequences, no script, no multiple wardrobe changes, just her and her incredible vocal and musical talents. Her shows are about the music and art and not about the spectacle. Not since I've seen Florence & the Machine have I been more impressed with an artist's vocal talent. I think her music is best enjoyed LIVE, because she's THAT GREAT. If you get really like, love or even just kind of like her or her songs, GO SEE HER LIVE. You will not be disappointed.

Sara never disappoints. She continually to raise the bar of her own greatness. I have been to a concert of hers before but this was truly something remarkable. I should mention to anybody going to an upcoming concert, Sara and her band like to mingle around in common areas before the show. I stood next to her backup vocalist for quite some time well buying some Sara merchandise so if you are going to an upcoming concert, keep your eyes peeled cause you never know who you might run into. Sara jumps onto stage before the show with an abundance of energy wearing jeans and a hoodie for the fans who came early and she introduces her opening acts Hannah Georgas and Emily King. The opening acts took in total about in hour but that was a well spent hour. They both had phenomenal voices and lyrics, I saw a lot of people walking out of that concert buying their CDs at the merchandise table. Both appealed to Sara fans with similar music styles but very different twists and both were very personable with the crowd and you could tell quite grateful for the opportunity. Great way to start the show! Sara finally takes the stage after set changes and almost a 30-45 minute wait. Sara bounds onto the stage with an appropriate for occasion Little Black Dress, still with unlimited energy. I could talk about each song individually but that would take forever so I'm just gonna lump them into a paragraph. She started with the tour headliner Little Black Dress where the whole crowd became instantly involved with the concert. From there she goes on an emotional rollercoaster from happy wedding songs like I Choose You to depressing ballards like Manhattan and Gravity then to the more pop side of stuff like Hercules and Eden then to the classic singles like Love Song and King of Anything and Uncharted. Very different than expected set list with most songs being from her new album, The Blessed Unrest but then sprinkled in some "oldies" like Love on the Rocks and Come Round Soon that are almost 10 years old. Also the crowd got very into Brave where behind her the fan music video was playing. Fans were so loud to the point where you almost couldn't hear Sara. It was a remarkable moment for a remarkable song. Her covers were absolutely amazing of Chandelier and Never Gonna Get It. Chandelier is a slower and sadder but well thought out Ballard and Sara did it as a solo acoustic (guitar) version and it was absolutely breathtaking. The hair on my arms literally stood up and that was one of the only songs the whole crowd was silent just with speechlessness. Her other cover of Never Gonna Get It was also great but in a different aspect. She gave the song new life and the trademark energy Sara has and the crowd was so enthralled that everybody was dancing along to Sara's sassy twist to this song. Sara is very great with fans too. I have been to two of her concerts now and she is just so interactive from letting the fans do backups to King of Anything and reading very punny signs that people in the crowd have made to even teasing some of the crowds reactions to things a bit and waiting afterwards to sign everyone autographs who stayed. She really is a fantastic performer all around the fan aspect. Her sense of humor on stage is also great and always makes you want to have her keep talking instead of actually singing. She makes fun of herself a lot which is always amusing but then just her general attitude to everything is hilarious. Her comments to things yelled and mess ups and always worth going to the concert to see. I would like to warn you that she does swear and quite often. This time it was more limited than last time but my 1st concert she swore like every other word so if you do have young children that you don't want them to hear that stuff than please just don't take them with. I saw plenty of young kids at this concert that walked out of there unharmed but it is a personal choice. Overall the concert was absolutely incredible. She is an amazing person and an amazing performer, her opening acts were great and set list was very very good. Definitely recommend to anyone who wants pop but on a deeper level. Sara is a nice breathe of fresh air compared to the pop on the radio today. Her vocals were spot on the whole time to and she is 1000 times better live than in the studio. Defiantly a must see concert this summer!

I've seen Sara perform live twice, two years apart, and both events were absolutely incredible (I even got to meet her at the second concert!). Very few artists can sing so well live and she blew it up. She's very charismatic and insanely funny on stage. If you haven't seen her live YOU NEED TO. She is well worth arriving to venues a few hours early to get at that very front (for general seating/standing) and, honestly, I would pay much more to see her again. It's blatantly evident that she loves what she's doing when she's up there. Can't wait to see her again.

This is a MUST SEE show! My second time seeing her live and she blew me away yet again with amazingly flawless vocals (started the show a Capella-I might add!), great new originals while sometimes playing piano, guitar, dancing, and crashing two HUGE cymbals. Yep, that's not a misprint...she's so creative, very funny and so real. Her fellow musicians were such a great addition....awesome rhythm dude, synth/background vocalist was fab, two cello players who also sang back up, guitar player with a rippin' solo on special, string/ piano/ cello/upright bass rendition of Gravity....no words! The audience was made up of true fans and I loved every musical moment!

I was fortunate enough to see Sara on her solo Brave tour in Atlanta, so I was already prepped to be blown away. This time with her full (and apparently brand new) band at the Ryman in Nashville, she owned the night. The show reflected the mature & slightly darker mood on her new record, but with all of the energy and passion you would expect. The thing that I liked was the carryover of the confidence and soul grabbing performance that she took from her time on the road as a solo act. She of course played the crowd pleasing favorites you would expect with a good dose of the new effort as well (notably absent was the made for live Satellite Call). Well done!

I lived in Berkeley for 5 years, but hadn't yet seen a concert in the Greek Theatre so I was psyched to see that Sara Bareilles was coming. It would be my chance to both check out this venue and also see an artist whose music I love so much. It was totally worth it! My friend and I had lawn seating and the view was great. It was awesome to see the theatre packed and all the lights, etc. The only thing I wish we had done was brought a couple more blankets because it gets quite chilly up there at night... Now, about the actual performance - it was fantastic! Sara Bareilles is a great performer and she has so much energy up on stage. The songs were amazing, as to be expected, and I really liked how her band had a cellist and violinist in addition to the keys, guitar, and bass. Overall, I would definitely recommend both seeing Sara Bareilles live and seeing a concert in the Greek Theatre if you get the chance.
