Sting

Named in 2011 as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, Sting remains one of music’s major players, touring and recording at a prolific rate. Inspired by a musical he penned by the same name, Sting released his 11th solo album, The Last Ship, in September, 2013. The musical, a telling of the demise of the shipbuilding industry in Sting’s hometown of Wallsall, UK, opens on Broadway in 2014. Singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, world music aficionado, activist, actor, and philanthropist, Sting has worn a multitude of hats over a career that goes all the way back to the early ‘70s.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this concert but was very pleased with his performance. He still has his great voice. I would also like to say, he picked a great place to perform. St John the Holy Divine is an amazing cathedral.

Sting was awesome at the Cathedral...I really enjoyed it however for this event Chris Botti was billed as the special guest and he was on stage for all of probably 2 mins. I was highly disappointed - I am a huge fan of both and I was truly looking forward to seeing them preform together at least 3 songs. A very huge disappointment. It would have been fine if it was just publicized as Sting and Chris Botti showed up for 2 mins...but this was not the case.

Stings new tour "A Winter's Night" was amazing. It was not like any other concert. He incorporated members of his orchestra from around the world, introduced them all (where they're from, etc) and made it a very personal event. Before he played each song he told you the story behind it which was very enlightening. It was a very mellow event - the music and Stings voice set an overall calm about the evening and it was so enjoyable. I would definitely see him again in this setting.

A once in a lifetime performance in a perfect setting for winter's music, handpicked and (sometimes) rearranged by an artist who clearly has nothing less than the utmost respect for what he has chosen to play. Plus, all the wonderful musicians backing Sting made it even better. This would be a terrific annual tradition.

Last night I was fortunate enough to be in the audience for Sting's performance from his newest CD "A Winter's Night". I brought my 17 year old son, Jake, with me. Both of us have seen Sting in concert many times. Yes, Jake started his concert going by seeing Sting at a Rainforest Benefit Concert when he was around 7 years old. Sting's music and lyrics have always been an important part of our lives and this show provided new and memorable moments for both of us. Sting's voice range is phenomenal and his musicians amazing. The brother and sister members from Newcastle were just wonderful. Jake regrets not following through with his violin lessons from elementary school, because he was awed by their talent. Chris Botti...need I say more....CHRIS BOTTI! The renditions of the songs from the CD along with Sting's explanations started our Christmas season in a serene and spiritual way and the setting in St. John the Divine's was the icing on the cake. It was an event to remember and I thank all the musicians and of course, Sting, for his incredbile talent and his consistency is providing the world with a variety of musical genres, opening the eyes of many to all the types of music from around the world. You never disappoint us...I am happy that I was able to be a part of this rare performance.

Sting in the MGM Grand Theater was way better than I thought he could be. I was expecting a nice, mature concert, but got a pretty rockin' event instead! The crowd was very appreciative of Sting's efforts to make the old hits sound like we remembered them, but with a "new" twist. And he really wowed us with 6 or 7 encores. A GREAT SHOW (the band with him is phenomenal too!)!

This amazing performer has mastered so many genres, rhythms, moods, feelings, and all using intricate music and lyrics that stand the test of time. His voice was in fine form and the magnificent musicians who accompanied him were nothing short of miraculous--special kudos to the pianist who literally sounded as if he had 40 fingers instead of only 10! The audience was comprised of Sting devotees, who all knew what was coming ,but revelled in the intensity of each moment. The concert ended too soon---because no number of encores would have ever been sufficient. I can't wait to see him again

The concert was AMAZING!! STING was such a great performer and with such on stage charisma it was fantastic. An iconic figure, so humbling on stage....what a great being. My absolute favorite moment was when STING received a note from the audience;he clearly stated he usually does not do which read that it was the birthday of one of his oldest fans in the audience, who turned 87 on the day of the show. Sting sang her a personalized Happy Birthday, and played a song for her. Simply..Unforgetable :)

Once again, Sting put on an excellent show for a packed house at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods in CT. With only a "basic" band (including the excellent Dominic Miller on guitar), Sting proved once again that he can play to massive stadiums or smaller venues without losing a step. Great vocals and wide choice of songs... including the old standards like Message in a Bottle and Roxanne, to some that I haven't heard him play in concert for quite some time, like Shape of My Heart. I'd got to see Sting play almost anywhere, but I would definitely go see him at this venue again.

When an artist does not have an album to sell it is a guarantee to be the best show! Sting proved this last night, just jammin' and playing his heart out. And to have Sting sing Happy Birthday to what is most likely his oldest fan (in the audience) and 89 year old woman was just so much fun. This was my 6th Sting concert and by far it was his best!

In Mezzanine for this show, saw Jackson Browne downstairs a few nights earlier. Very big difference in sound between the 2 areas. I am sure the distance has something to do with it, but I would have expected acoustics to be pretty similar when building a venue like this. Also, ushers very annoying going after what we assumed were people using cell phones for recording or whatever. USHERS WERE MORE ANNOYING THAN THE PATRONS. WENT UP AND DOWN ROWS TO WARN PEOPLE.

Sting showed that he could still rock the house and play "muscle" music with the best of them. He truly is a consummate musician. Able to play classical lute, then switch to a Police tour then back to his solo work. The band was extremely tight and weaved in and out of Police and Sting songs effortlessly. Dominic Miller, David Sancious and Josh Freese sounded like they enjoyed themselves and kept the intensity level high and powerful. I didn't need to work out this morning since Sting and the band made me jump, shout and dance to every song they played. Thanks Sting I had a great evening and will treasure the memory of the show for a long time to come.

I have seen Sting and Peter Gabriel do their solo thing - which is always a treat. This was like combining the best of two worlds! Both super talented men and their amazing musicians - the violin guy, drummers, backup singers (so good!) and of course the guitarists. Dominic has been with Sting for a long time, always good. So look - if you love me either of these two musicians, and you have the cash and the time - go to this show it well worth it! Oh both Peter and Sting cover each other's material - with fantastic results!

What a magical evening! Peter & Sting were at the top of their game. Instead of individually performing their songs, they collaborated. 3 + hours of memorable favorites. Their band was comprised of an impressive collection of performers -- a string quartet who ROCKED it out! Several keyboardists. Oh the drummer! The vocalists gave chills. No breaks. Non stop fan favorites from several of their eras. They at times were playful -- sometimes introspective. You can tell how much they admire each other. A lot of thought and planning went into this collaborative event. They encouraged audience participation for every song. Imagine being in a sea of souls singing along, goose-bump worthy. Wow -- great use of technology, too! I don't want to spoil it, but they really took the "Go-Pros" out for a romp and the results were displayed on the jumbo-trons. Oh the lighting -- magical & powerful! ENJOY!!

Over 2 1/2 hrs, 28 songs, performed by world class musicians, supported by incredible audio and video techs, this show appealed to my heart, my brain, and my soul. I wasn't sure what to expect from two musical legends who are both now in their mid-60s, but from the moment they stepped onto the stage and started singing, they erased any doubt that they wouldn't be able to keep the crowd on its feet and deliver what they had come there for. Merging their sets and taking turns singing their own songs and then together, and backed up by a 12-piece band, they performed for 2 hours and 45 minutes and kept their energy and voices in top form all evening. They managed to cover most of their most popular and well-known songs - Red Rain, Don't Give Up, In Your Eyes, Roxanne, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, If You Love Somebody Set Them Free - but in refreshingly new ways, often singing backup for one and another and sometimes singing each other's songs (most notably, Peter Gabriel's version of If You Love Somebody). All and all, it was a fantastic night of music from two guys who still have what it takes to keep a crowd cheering for more.

Seeing the best musicians of our lifetime is a must and to watch them share the stage was so unique. They took turns performing, shared songs and sometimes sang each other's songs. And the stage electronics and videos were true eye candy, cameras everywhere and lighting to set the mood. Sting & Peter still have the voices of their youth and they were surrounded by amazing musicians and singers and they played for 3 hours. Pretty good for a couple of senior citizens.

Move over, youngsters, and make room for two artists who know how to rock and yet still move your heart. Sting and Peter Gabriel exceeded my expectations in the way they almost seamlessly melded their music together into a two-hour extravaganza of sound, sight, heart and humor. Gabriel's "Digging in the Dirt" and his cover of "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free" blew me away, and Sting's cover of "Shock the Monkey" and his own "Invisible Sun" were incredibly moving. I would pay to see them again and would happily buy a DVD/Cd of the show. (And kudos to the United Center who kindly moved our seats from nosebleed west to section 102!!!)

Great sound and really intriguing combination of two great musicians. Many that I talked to, werent big Sting fans but like the Police. Most of his songs were indeed Police. I thought they really raised the game on each others pieces. My only disappointment is that I feel Gabriel held back on some of his avant grade stage theatrics. Probably just not Stings game. The stage was a little sparse with zillions of musicians and their kits like a musical football field. The video effects were clever and smart but not as impactful as they could have been.

In the 80s they were Power House's, the 90s Incredible! Now in 2016 together were hitting notes with voices that amazed me!!! Their copious talent was rendered at Rock Paper Scissors Show. It was two great bands and talent for the price of one. How lucky I am to have been able to witness such superstars again! The Rock Paper Scissors Tour is a must see and you only have 2 more weeks to catch a show! A mesmerizing blend of voices between Peter Gabriel and Sting kept myself and the rest of the audience glued to the performance but not to our seats! Engaged in a vocal volley, both Sting and Peter sang as if not one minute had passed since the 1980s. It was evident that the artists were experiencing pure joy as they each sang their own and each other's more popular songs. Playful and giddy, Sting and Peter Gabriel were at their best keeping each other as well as the audience entertained. It was a natural blend of talent between the two backed up by amazing musicality of their bands. I walked away with goose bumps. Prior to attending, I wondered how two headliners would determine who plays first. The answer was neither. Peter Gabriel and Sting took turns singing (sometimes each other's songs) and when one was singing lead vocals, the other was singing back-up or playing an instrument. They had no ego, only talent. Powerful vocals, great video/lights, playful interaction, and political commentary proved to the audience that this was a show to burn into your memory bank. Sting showed some bluesy style, wide range vocals, and a super fit body. Peter Gabriel displayed his powerful vocals, heartfelt lyrics and also stole the show with "In Your Eyes". I think all 25,000 people in the audience moved their arms in unison with Peter and it was truly moving. I flew up from Asheville, NC to see it! I will never forget this legendary combination.

By far the best event I've ever been ever, the parking was fast and no lines at all, The venue very clean, a lot of security, very safe and well organized, My 19 Yo daugther was with me just because my wife cancelled because she didn't wanted to miss the Dallas Cowboys game and she told me "I'm not a Sting fan daddy, but dont want you to go alone" and now she loves Sting!

I have loved this performer since my teen years. It is always a blast to see him perform. Even though the set was short it was worth it! Especially since AA staff moved the nosebleed people to the floor section. Woo hoo!!!!

I've seen the Police and Sting about 15 times through the years and it was great to catch sting at the Hammerstein. Probably not the best performance I've seen. The set list was very mellow and the crowd was pretty subdued. The snow storm thinned the crowd of a usually packed Hammerstein and I noticed people leaving early due to transport problems most likely. Venues need to consider having sections dedicated for people who want to video concerts on their phones. Many times it was hard to see sting through all the arms and phones in the air recording the performance.

This was first show of its kind I've seen where the headliner opened the show and performed with both supporting acts. From start to finish - this was a perfect show with a seamless flow about it and exceeded expectations.

The show was great, it had all of the classics with a youthful vibe. Sting's soon Joe was one of the opening acts as well as The Last Bandoleros. They were good but as the show unfolded Sting had them as part of the show. It injected a youthful vibe into all of Sting's/The Police's classics.

My husband turned to me as we walked out of the show and said what I was thinking. This was sooooo much better than The Police Reunion Tour. Sting sang Roxanne like he was back in 1979 and he was FILLED with pride for every song he sang in the set. From the fun song before the show to his coming on stage with The Last Bandeleros, to the BLAST of "Synchronicity II" to his final curtain call in "The Empty Chair" this was a SHOW. I will be forever grateful I had my Costco Citi Card to get into the pre-sale of this once in a lifetime event. Sting in an amazingly intimate venue.

This was a great concert at a great Venue! The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was the fact Sting didn't play all his big hits (No King of Pain)! The band sounded just as tight as any of Stings past recorded hits, thanks to outstanding backing from Don Miller on lead and the amazing Josh Freese on drums. The Smart Financial Center is a nice venue, but it is a bit greedy to charge $15 for parking.....it's not like it is in downtown Houston or another location where real estate is tight.

It felt like a private show with 2,000 of my close friends. The sound, lighting, and Sting were simple a perfect. He was engaging and inspiring! Even though I was in GA-SRO, for the 2.5 hour show I felt like I was enjoying the show sitting on a beach in CA. It was that great it felt like a mini vacation!

This was my fourth Sting concert over the years and by far my favorite. By interspersing his new material with classics, he and his amazing band gave a most memorable performance. Some of the 'oldies' got a new twist via a reggae beat or blues touch. There was a wonderful "bow" to David Bowie with a 'Major Tom' segment, a mix of "Roxanne/Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone", and lots of stellar guitar solos by Dominic Miller as well as his son Rufus. Sting's voice is crazy strong, he's in great shape and he ended the evening with his Oscar nominated song "The Empty Chair." There's a brief warm-up with his son Joe and a rocking band The Last Bandoleros. They then proceed to provide vocals throughout the rest of Sting's performance. Total knockout of a concert.

A triumphant return to the kind of music that solidified his fan base. I supported his decision to stray off into other ventures but missed the pop rock, was so excited to see a great blend of the new with the old. The last Bandoleros were a great band and enjoy them as back up along with Joe Sumner who is incredibly talented as well. Had a great time dancing the night away, the band was on target as always, drummer and the millers were on point! Recommend the floor standing room only at moda if you don't mind being cozy. I always thought I would have to pay an exorbitant ticket price to be able to stand up close enough to actually watch them perform, I always have sat far back and bigger venues and could never even make out his face. He played many of my favorites!

We saw the Rock, Paper, Scissors Tour in Calgary and it was probably one of the best concerts weve been to. What a delight being able to see so many talented first class musicians up on stage together ... totally having fun and very relaxed Both Sting and Peter Gabriel were incredible and their voices amazing. Totally got our moneys worth for the tickets ... 12th Row on the Floor

I love to see someone perform who has been doing it for 30+ years because the performance is so flawless and effortless. These two are true professionals. I was able to forget for a few hours all my problems and the horrors going on in the world today and just enjoy myself and get lost in the music. We had a really great time! Both sting and Peter Gabriel were high energy and their voices were on point. The band was outstanding. Very powerful performance!

I must say I was very much looking forward to this tour... I thought that both Sting and Peter Gabriel would be doing all their old stuff, maybe having one sing a few songs - then alternate with the other singing one of his hits. However; oddly enough - both Sting and Peter Gabriel were singing their hits TOGETHER? What the?! Yes, creating "duets" of sorts out of their classic, well known, don't mess with, hit songs!!? Why?? This threw the crowd off - because we WANTED to hear Sting sing "Englishman in NY," and Peter Gabriel sing, "Red Rain!" It sounded SUPER weird to hear Peter singing a Sting song and vice versa. Another problem was that Peter Gabriel is very DRAMATIC and SOMBER musician... so, Sting would get the crowd on their feet singing "Roxanne," only to have the stage go black, then a sad, downer song of Peter's began. It just didn't work for me - sorry. Also, Peter Gabriel played "Shock the Monkey, Games without Frontiers, and Don't Give Up" within the first 5 songs of the Concert while everyone was in line getting beer!!? Because he opened with his best songs, I felt like I had to tolerate him singing with Sting for the rest of the show. In Summary, STING ROCKS, he looks and sounds exactly the SAME... PETER was OK, sounding like he was reading, rather than singing and looking really old... which is prolly why this show ended around 10pm!! Glad I didn't pay more than $65!! :*(

Sting is in excellent form, as ever, showing no signs of slowing down. That said, I was hoping for something akin to his stripped-down Jazzy concert in 2004 at the Warner Theater (Sacred Love Tour). This seemed like simply a rehash of his standards. It also smacked of a carefully selected cross-section of his album, geared to promote sales of his recent 25-year retrospective collection, which I really can't blame him for. I suppose that this was more of his "traditional" self, scheduled to offset his symphonic concert last summer, the same way that he played a more traditional rock concert in late 2004 to offset the jazzier set he'd played earlier in the year.

Awesome show. This was my 4th time seeing Sting in Detroit, and as usual, was blown away. My only issue was with the seating of the Fox Theater: I wish there was more of an incline in the floor. A man with a a very large head sat in front of me, making it difficult to see. However, the acoustics were fantastic. Hope Sting comes through again soon.

It is nearly impossible to believe that Sting turned 60 last month as he and his fellow musicians whom he plays with are absolute perfection. This tour is a great review of Sting's tremendious solo career over the decades and included a set list that pleases the "greatest hits" fans as well as classics for his die-hard life long fans! He also stops to speak about the events in his life that inspired many of his songs and lyrics providing a rare glimpse into the soul of one of this generations greatest songwriter / storytellers. Do not miss an opportunity to see this show!
