I highly recommend seeing any show at the Saenger. The theater itself is stunning and worth the price of admission just to see it. The phantom of the opera was an amazing show. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. The music, set, and costumes were all outstanding. Highly recommended!

My 11 year old daughter had seen the movie and was so excited to go see it live. The show was magical and well performed. We did a day show that did have several understudies doing the performance and we were amazed at the overall acting, singing and performing of all cast members. The set and props are absolutely amazing and well put together for a traveling show. I have no complaints about this show and it was a wonderful bonding experience with our daughter who will remember this experience forever.

The production was excellent, and the performers well-versed and professional. We would appreciate that no one be seated after the play begins. It was very distracting to have late comers walking in front of us as the play progressed.

Everything I hoped for when I bought the tickets! The show was excellent. The group numbers were a bit confused, but that's to be expected with a musical, and the overall impressions of the songs was intact despite that. I definitely recommend it to anyone who is a Phantom of the Opera fan.

I felt it was hard to follow sometimes in that I could not understand what the performers were singing, and to be honest my mind drifted at times. My seats were in the left gallery, and though it was teh second row, I would reccomend seats in tne middle. Even if they are slightly higher, I would still of liked them better. I missed some things happening becasue it was blocked. It was a good show, and I am glad I went, but this is just my 10 cents.

My wife and I went to New York City last year for our anniversary and saw Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre on Broadway. We were very excited that the traveling show was coming to Houston, although I will admit that I was suspect of the quality of the traveling show as compared to the actual Broadway production. Then the curtain went up. The traveleing show far exceeded my expectations and removed all doubts I had. Dare I say it, but, I actually thought that the traveling show was better than the one on Broadway itself. So if you are a fan of Broadway productions, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Phantom, or just if you simply are a fan of the movie, but have never seen the actual stage play of Phantom, I highly recommend seeing this while it is still here. You won't regret it.

I have seen Phantom two times before I saw this new production from Cameron Mackintosh. His version is a little darker, maybe a little more grandeur and definitely my favorite so far. I feel that my opinion could be harsher than others, this was my sixth time seeing phantom. I was dissapointed, the big reason being, I do not like the new version of the show, changing the design of the costumes, scenery and choreography. I feel it takes away from the over all magic of the show and doesn't always match the time period it takes place in. The old costumes and scenery were beautiful. Also my phantom must have been losing his voice, sang off beat with the music, didn't sing part of a song, and seemed very weak, there were many technical difficulties, had to pause show because the chandelier wasn't working, music over powered voices at times then got too soft. The theater is beautiful, the story line and music will always be beautiful, just not impressed with the cast this time or the new version they have made it. I think for someone who has never seen the show, it would be enjoyable, for someone who really loves phantom and have seen it before, not so much, obviously just my opinion :)

Before I get into my review, I have to say that I adore The Phantom of the Opera! I had heard about it growing up, but I never saw it until the movie came out in 2004, and believe me, I was hooked instantly!! I have been a huge fan ever since. That being said, here goes... and there are a few minor spoilers in here, just so you know in case you haven't see the show before! I saw The Phantom of the Opera here at the Orpheum in Minneapolis 2-3 years ago, and that was my first time seeing it performed live. If I had written a review then, it most definitely would have gotten 5 stars! Compared to this time, I liked the first performance much better. Now, perhaps it was simply the fact that last time was my first time seeing it live. But I recall the actors doing a little more "audience participation" last time, which made it absolutely unforgettable. This time around, there was almost none whatsoever. SPOILER ALERT if you have never seen the show: A great example is Carlotta and her "husband" (during the opera scene where Carlotta looses her voice), when they each sang their "adieu" last time, they really hammed it up-- paused and waited for the audience to clap for them, tried to outdo each other, etc. This time, none of that happened. In fact, much of the dialogue this time around just plain felt forced. I felt like I was watching a play, rather than being completely transported into an opera house and feeling like I was there. Also, this time around, I found it really difficult to emotionally connect to the Phantom. I sometimes find it hard to put my feelings into words, but I'll give it a try... In the pre-recorded versions I've seen (such as the movie and the 25th anniversary DVD), the Phantom's movements are smooth and that makes him come off as very romantic yet mysterious. Whereas this time, he was twitchy and awkward-- It felt much more like he was self-conscious the entire time rather than only when he had his mask off, which in turn made it hard for me to "fall for him." (If my memory serves, last time, the Phantom had some minor twitchiness but only in the scenes when he had his mask off.) Christine was excellent both times, and I actually cried again (this time) during "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again." And the music!! For 5-6 musicians to make you feel like you're listening to an entire orchestra, that's quite a feat!! Overall, I would still highly recommend the show, especially if you haven't seen it before. The costumes are amazing, the sets are gorgeous, and the music is unforgettable! If you can find a performance like the one I saw a couple years ago, I guarantee you will love it!!! Just goes to show that the actors' interpretations can make a difference. I think for myself, I'm going to wait to see it again until I can afford to travel to NYC to see it performed on Broadway.

A very chilly night warmed up by a lovely, lively performance. The Orpheum is a beautiful venue! The cast was talented, with booming voices. This production was one of the best I have ever seen. The caliber of the show was right up there with Broadway. I am very thankful we get opportunities to see these types of high quality performances in AR. I was dissatisfied with the greeters/ushers/ticket scanners. Although very friendly they didn't seem knowledgeable when answering questions such as "where is the bathroom?" Or "which side do I enter on?". The door I entered only had one employee working and she was unable to scan tickets and pass out programs so many patrons had to find their own programs. I also noticed patrons were let in during seating holds at the top of the show and asked by an employee to stand at the bottom balcony landing and wait to be seated. These people ended up standing the entire first act because they were never instructed when they could be seated. It was very unfortunate for the patrons standing but also to those watching the show because those standing became a distraction during the performance. Lastly, the venue is absolutely stunning and the renovations are incredible with the exception of restrooms. I would think for a venue that size there would be more restrooms or at least larger restrooms to accommodate more patrons during short intermissions. I understand the renovations are complete and the issue probably will not be able to be addressed but it is worth mentioning. Overall I had a great time and was very impressed with the production itself. The venue still has some kinks to work out however I am optimistic.

This was my very first Opera. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect, but my wife and I went in with an open mind. The singing, the orchestra, the actors and staff were second to none. But the people that did the stage props, which I personally know how much work goes on back stage, had to be the best crew ever assembled. The transitions from prop to prop were seamless and flawless. Timing and placement of everything was spot on. We would love to go back to watch that or other operas again. We have already recommended it to several friends. Were pleasantly surprised at how much humor was in the show. The Robinson Center was a great venue for this event. Very clean, great seating and any staff I spoke with were very helpful and nice. Being that my wife is a recent cancer survivor, we enjoy all of our time together, but this was special.

The singing was top notch, the acting was great. The set design was superb and worth going to just see the sets. The only negative is the sound. The performing art center is not that big. It was way too loud. The singers were microphoned and the high notes were ear piercing because they did not regulate the sound for louder parts. The only other suggestion I would make is more lighting on the opening scene. I could not see anything on the stage except the person talking.

The phantom was beyond a doubt amazing! Until this show I had only seen the play on Netflix at the royal Albert hall. The actors and actresses were great. I was a bit spoiled from watching the Netflix play so much, so to see it live with a different cast was weird at first. That does not mean that the Broadway crew did anything less than perfect. I have seen multiple productions of Phantom. This one was cleverly staged (even though they had to bring the house lights on to deal with technical difficulties 15 min from the end) to accomodate such a small venue. I like the steps sliding out of the wall particularly. For the sake of other audiences I'm hoping the Phantom had a cold and not all of the performances by this one are as nasal and 13 year old sounding. Roul was WAY over enunciating and it was very distracting. Christine did ocassionally as well but she sang amazingly. The venue was nice. The orchestra was AMAZING. Get there early for parking. You could purchase food in the foyer. It was a bit expensive but standard for live theatres I'be been to. If you want souvenirs be prepared to pay the high price for them.

This Thanksgiving, our family experienced the most unforgettable and phenomenal musical ever created. The Phantom of the Opera is a timeless classic that greatly impacts the lives of those today. The actors portrayed their characters with such expertise as to send chills up the aisles. This heartwarming story featured Katie Travis (Christine Daae) and Chris Mann (Phantom). All performers will be remembered for their skill and energy. The characters come to life in all scenes and group numbers. The beautiful costumes and complex set-up bring out the masterpiece in all its glory. When the U. S. tour group leaves to go to its next city, everyone in Houston will think, "Wishing you were somehow hear again..." -Anna T.

The venue is very small, and the cast and crew did a great job of setting it up and making it work. Members of the cast took time to talk to a few of us and take a few pictures outside the theater, which was really nice.

The new production of Phantom of the Opera was amazing! This is my favorite musical of all time, and the touring show did not disappoint. The music was wonderful, as always, and the chandelier, being a major part of the show, was opulent and beautiful. The sets were the best part of the show. I LOVED the rotating sets, which gave the show a whole new feel. However I have to be honest and candid, and some of the changes they made to the show did not sit well with me. Cameron McIntosh changed the Phantom, and I don't think he should have done that. With some of the changes to the Phantom, it made him a less desirable character, and I lost some of my sympathy for him in this show. Other than that, the show was wonderful!

The entire show was absolutely incredible. From the cast, the singing, the orchestra and the music. Just phenomenal. The way they set the stage is still mind boggling how they put that set together. It looked so real and the boat seemed to be floating on water. We didn't want the show to end! We would go to every show if we could afford it! Don't forget to get a cushion for your seat if you are short. You check them out at the coat rack check in and it's free. You just need to have your ID with you and they will return it to you after the show when you turn your cushion back in.The season ticket holder in front of us was very tall. Pray he doesn't show up to your performance with these seats. My daughter and I didn't mind at all. She was just happy to be there.

I had seen this show 23 years ago at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and was anxious to see the changes in the newest "Phantom". I was thrilled at the performance and I can't remember it being as wonderful as it was Thanksgiving evening!

I took my two daughters to the show. We all enjoyed it quite a bit. There did seem to be a glitch in "the Phantom's" earpiece. He seemed off tempo the first half of the show. After intermission however he came out with a strong and spot on performance which made me squint to see if it was someone else! lol It wasn't, which is why I'm thinking he was having technical difficulties. (these things happen) "Raoul" had a very strong voice with a wide range and "Christine" did a fine job. We also enjoyed the character of Andre. All in all we are glad we saw the performance and very pleased with it. The last scene was played excellently! I won't give it away...

I went to see this very well talked about play and I must say.... IT WAS PHENOMENAL! The day just so happened to fall on my mother's birthday( whom has been waiting for years to see this play) and we had such a wonderful time together.

Phantom of the Opera was GREAT! I was so excited to finally see one of my most favorite musicals. The set design and costumes well supported this very talented cast. My seats, row T, seats 23-25, featured a great view. The only downside to the show was the cold air that was blowing on me during the show. I was so cold so quickly it took away from the show. Maybe some concern to air blowing directly on guests should be taken into account. It the show....AMAZING!

I have seen the original show of Phantom a number of times; as a teenager, as a twenty something and most recently as a thirty something. I also have read a numbers of the books that are out there from Gaston Leroux's original to more recent titles like Phantom and Phoenix of the Opera. In an effort to stay positive I congratulate the production crew in their attempt to reimagine the story. For the younger generations that haven't seen the show from it's inception I believe they will find many aspects of the show pleasing and well done. However, as somewhat of a veteran of the original show, it seemed somewhat dispassionate and borderline childish. This maybe the fault of the actors (as they seem to be relatively new to touring) or perhaps the fault lies with the director. On a technical note, while the innovation of the cylindrical set piece added to some of the scenes, other scenes (that lacked the afore mentioned set piece) lacked a set almost entirely. An example, the two piece graveyard scene that was once a grandiose part of the original is now degraded to what seems like almost an after thought. The changes that were most apparent occurred after Intermission. Some were successful, others not as much. A sense of levity was brought into some scenes that gave them a new life. In general a very worthy show, but for the veterans of the "old" regime maybe some work can be done to make it perfect once again!!!

First of all, Ms. Udine, you are one of the best Christines ever...if not the best. What pipes! And the appearance to go with it...near perfect as I can see. Raoul, topnotch, makes the guy in the movie look like a waiter at a natural foods restaurant. I thought the Phantom was weak in the first act. The acting was fine, but his mike needed to be turned up or something. His voice just did not have the power it needs to have. The Phantom's voice should be intimidating and that was missing. Again, it could have been mike trouble. I thought the cast was flawless. . . all of them. Congratulations! I think the stage hands did miracles with that tiny stage. I don't know how you did it, but it all looked rock solid and very realistic...ingenious how you took us to the catacombs... I loved it....my third time. . .as always so inspiring. DoctorZest.com
