WAR

WAR IN CONCERT:Chicano funk icons War rolled their way to fame in the early '70s with classic hits like "Low Rider" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?", and they've kept fans dancing ever since with their groovy, socially conscious jams. The group's roster has changed over the years, but founding member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan has remained a constant, and his familiar voice and jazzy keyboard licks continue to drive the band's fun-loving sets. The multi-ethnic lineup he's assembled stays true to the band's message of harmony and brotherhood, and their 2014 studio debut together – the first new War album in 20 years – proved they've got the musical chemistry to carry on the band's hallowed legacy. In concert they strike up the same funky, feel-good vibe that fueled War's rise to success in the '70s, and their party-starting blend of rubbery basslines, Latin percussion, and scorching saxophone always gets ticket buyers moving their feet.

Go every year (annual event), have a "really great time with friends". Just wish War would play more of their songs. The concert seemed so short and quick. They still sound great, just as if it was yesterday. Same thing for Malo and El Chicano, they only played a few songs and then the groups were done. I would love to hear more of their songs. When the lights go on, your "bummed". You want more songs to hear.

Wow this was a great concert!! My boyfriend and I go everytime War, Tierra, Malo and El Chicano have a concert especially at the Greek. We especially like to follow Tierra around when we can as we know the trumpet player Jeff Lewis. He is a close friend of ours so we try to go support the group when we can. Concerts are great especilly the summer ones

As always, we have gone to this every year and really enjoy and look forward to this concert. The audience is insync with the music. No probelems at all, the drinks are great. Wonderful atmosphere and as always great music. It's always a pleasure to hear the music you grew up with. Brings back good memories!

War was good, at least the one guy who's still in the band. The tunes were groovy, but we could have done without the extraneous stuff. War had way more than enough great music on its own to have to worry about wasting good time with throwaway covers. Big problem with the night were the countless garage bands who went on before. Ultimately, this night went from 8 until 1, with far too little of the time being War.

I thought the War concert was fantastic. It took me back to my high school days. I could'nt remember all of the music they sang but when they started a song it was like o.k. I remember this. The lead singer put on a wonderful show, he was very entertaining. The band sounded great and the music was just great to hear. I forgot that they sang Spill thw Wine and Summertime. It was a night to remember.

Both bands were very entertaining. I go to 20-25 concerts a year and Hard Rock Live at the Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL is the best venue I've ever attended. The sound was phenominal and the seating was very well thought out. Both bands played all their hits faithfully. Took me back to the 70's. AWB even came out afterword and signed CD's.

The music was totally amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Lenny's voice is exactly the same as ever and I went back in time for the evening. My husband and I met in 1973 in a dance club. We both love this music. Our daughter, now 26 years old with a Master's Degree in Education and a music lover as well, bought us these tickets. It was the best gift we have ever received! At first I was disappointed that there were so few people in attendance but then I was glad because I stood at my seat and danced almost the entire concert and I wasn't in anyone way because there was no one behind me. The saxophone and percussion and keyboards were also amazing. These men are talented!

I was a diehard fan in the early 70s, and really hoped that Eric Burdon was playing with them but, alas, he wasn't there. (Their website, plus others, claim that Burdon would join them for this summer 2009 tour.) Lonnie Jordan (the only original member) and (new) harmonica player, Mitch Kashmar, and everyone were great, but the show was short by a few songs, and the band didn't come back for an encore (a real no-no in my book). War opened with a fantastic rendition of Cisco Kid that time warped up back to the early 70s. Concert included Baby Brother, Why Can't We Be Friends, Slippin' Into Darkness (my favorite), Spill the Wine, Summer, and an extended ("live") version of Low Rider that included band member introductions and short riffs of Shotgun, Sunshine of Your Love , Iron Man, Gypsy Queen, and what sounded like an approximation of some Santana song to show off the percussionist. There was a rather long, drawn out song I didn't recognize really, that could have been omitted or shortened so they could have played something more classic. What they definitely missed was All Day Music, and they could have done that for an encore, or performed just one more song. Jeesh. War performed for about 1:20. Average White Band performed a very nice warm up set that included all their hits, plus a nice taste from their new album "Times Square." They sold and autographed albums outside during intermission, but we didn't do that. AWB performed about an hour. All told the concert was about 2.5 hours of music. At $70 per ticket (main floor, 13 rows back) that's about $25 per hour. Calculating entertainment in this way puts a fresh perspective on this type of expense. A corporate switchboard operator makes about $15/hr before taxes.

They left out many of their hits such as All Day Music, City, Country, City, The World is a Ghetto, among others. It was only one hour long. I asked their sax player why after the concert was over and his reply was," The Hard Rock Hotel limits them to only play for only ONE hour!" I left a message for their management company and as of yet I haven't received a reply.

Once again this is the best venue for sound ( Hard Rock live) I was lucky enough to get a ticket through Ticketmaster during thier Pre-online sale. and was in th 21st row....AWB was Funk in all it's Glory .Grooves that made you get up and dance a kicking Drummer and base player. This legendary band keeps on rocking out. They were very good. The vocals were great and the musicians were very talented. Although, War is an award- wining band, I felt that they should have performed more of their hits. There intros and outros were very long. It was more like a jam session than a concert. There was no encore, instead it ended very quickly and everyone was ushered out. All and all, it was a great concert still! Would I see them again......maybe!

I was so blown away with this show, I am from that era when that music was what we listened to. It was so refreshing to hear musicians play with out smoke and mirrors and special effects, just quality playing. When these musicians started out, you had to have talent or else you didn't play. Now everything is smoke and mirrors sometimes not real talent. Not to say there are no good musicians out there because there are, but I don't foresee having any more War, Average White Band, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago. I think those days are gone.

I have been an AWB fan for 30 years. I last saw them at Radio City Music Hall in New York in 1975. This band is still a tight act. They sounded great and performed flawless renditions of their popular songs and one song from their new CD. I never saw WAR before last night's show and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. They were great. I also enjoyed the audience participation: everyone was dancing and singing along with their favorite songs. It was like back in the day, people just enjoying music together. Overall, it was a great night.

Some friends, my husband and I went to see War at the Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, MS. The venue is really nice. There is enough room for your legs, you don't have to get up to let people get to their seats. The ushers are very friendly and on point for seating you. Now for the concert...WAR was off the chain!! True enough, they are an old school group, however, they performed the songs with the SAME integrity as they did back in the day! We all thoroughly ENJOYED the concert! The venue was ok...it's older, but very ornate in the theater decor..(smelled of smoke at times) but overall it felt like a concert...dancing in the aisles, people singing along, & drinking...The food was a little pricey...$4 for bottled coke. The hostess in the ladies restroom were very friendly, but don't forget to bring them a tip if you use the facilities....no host in the male restrooms on this visit. btw...don't wear high heels...there is a 45 degree climb to get to your seats....can get a little tricky.

The fair grandstand is always a great place to enjoy a concert and the buzz in the grandstand was amazing. WAR and Tower of Power were totally awesome as usual. Tower of Power made sure to save the best for last in Your Still a Young Man but WAR did not. The whole crowd was waiting anxiously for "Don't Let No One Get You Down" and it didn't come. Cheech & Chong, emceed by Shelby Chong hit on some of their material from movies of 1978-86. Cheech cuts loose with "Mexican Americans" and Chong grabs a guitar and the "Beaners" song even got an update! WAR has fantastic instrumentalists: bass, brass, drums, hand drums, it was all good since each got a time to show their stuff. One break in three hour concert, good length and variety in show. Guys do skits, War plays, back n' forth. Really good concert in a comfortable, newer venue.

The band sounded great but I craved to hear more of their complete songs rather than a compilation of snippets. It felt like they spent way too much time on their individual introductions and riffs and not enough time playing the complete songs we all came to hear. The band was amazing, wholly and individually however. The concert started with a bang but then slowly wound down at the end. I would have liked to see the band encourage people to get up and dance. We were all dying to but being a dinner show, we were concerned with blocking views of others sitting. All in all, I thought they were great musicians and brought back some great memories of my high school days. I attended the concert with my high school girlfriends so it was a wonderful treat. I would recommend the band, just please, play more complete songs. You are so amazing!

I've always wanted to see WAR live and finally got my wish. They put on a fun show playing their hits and enjoying the interaction with the audience. As least as good as the show, the staff at The Variety Playhouse made sure I great access and good sightlines (I use a wheelchair). I was so close the lead singer stuck the mic in my face to sing along at one point. Fantastic.

All three bands were off the hook, its nice to see bands from back in the day that still got it I have seen artists from the past who just don't sound the same but all three of these groups are entertaining and still can throw it down like they did before, well worth my money.

I came in expecting to hear only from WAR but was pleasantly treated from opening to closing. The warm up band, Together, laid it down with their old school songs that had the audience singing along. Their band and vocals was a good surprise and had me searching later for some old school tracks that I have not heard in years. Next up was Sugerfoot and the Ohio Players who I thought would not give a good show but proved me wrong. Old Sugerfoot minus the patented Afro still had his vocals and scat vocal style that continues to make him famous. They played their classic that had the audience up on their feet. As the MC said, we saved the best for last; WAR came on stage and made you remember why you go to concerts - Fifteen plus minutes sets with solo s! Most of their biggest hits were played and the audience and I ate it up. I rank it up there with one of the best concerts that I have seen in the past two years.

WAR was better now than they were 30 years ago - hands down, one of the best concert bands in history. Great sound, performance, song selection. Truly a flashback to a better time in music.

I saw AWB the last time they played here in Harrisburg, Pa and they were great, but in being perfectly honest with you, I was really looking forword in seeing WAR. I grew up with the both AWB and WAR, and being a DJ while living in Philly, I very well know music. I was deeply IMPRESSED with AWB this time compared to the last time I saw them. They played for 75 minutes and played very well and a 100% improvement from the last show. Now with that said, I was sitting in my seat saying to myself will WAR be able to compete with what I just heard from AWB. Le the TRUTH be told, they certainly did, and I just sit there thinking about how it was when I first heard them. After seeing them after 20 or so years, it was hard for me to believe that the group still played as well as they did with 7 members. People who know about WAR know that their band was a huge band with lots of equipment and members as well, and for me to sit there and see 7 members playing as well as they did, I was more than PLEASED. A FANTASTIC show, and was worth more than what I had to spend, and I'll spend my money to see either one of the groups when they come back to Harrisburg.

Me and 12 of my family and friends went to the show and was immediately transformed back to the 70's. The group's performance was superb and the venue was perfect! We all had a great time\u2026 I brought my 13 year old daughter for her 13th birthday. She is a big rock music fan but she tends to listen to the newer rock groups. I wanted her to experience a bit of what I enjoy and needless to say she wasn't thrilled to see a bunch of "old people" sing and dance. It wasn't long before she was enjoying the show herself. I believe WAR expanded her taste in music. She even put their new Live album on her iPod\u2026thanks guys!

I have been going for about 2 years now for my wife's b-day and it's a show her and my self love it brings back good memories and the performance's are priceless, so we hope to go back next year by the way we invited family and friends to join us on this event and now our crowd is getting bigger for next year every one wants in on this event... but I wish that one day they would include Carlos Santana with them or the Lonely Boys too wow that would be the bomb....

Sound was incredible. Our grandstand seats were up close and personal. War played all their hits and then some. The only downside was parking at the fairgrounds - long walk to venue but worth it!,

Tower of Power was great as always. Did not like the variations War used on their iconic songs; left early because of this.

Start to finish this was an amazing concert, the entire nearly 2 hours of it! Sure, Eric B has tied their hands on performing some of it as recorded but close enough. You would have to be a long time fan like myself to even notice, I probably just gave away my age. No kidding this band is well worth seeing and I am sure you will agree, they are super!
