Amos Lee

Amos Lee was born Ryan Anthony Massaro on June 22, 1977 in Philadelphia and graduated an English major from the University of South Carolina. After graduation, he worked as a teacher and bartender as he pursued a career as a singer-songwriter, and scored a record deal from Blue Note Records after his manager submitted his demo. He toured with labelmate Norah Jones and Bob Dylan, and then on his own before recording his self-titled debut album in 2005, showcasing his unique fusion of folk, jazz, and rock, anchored by his sophisticated songwriting and soulful voice. The following year, Lee released his sophomore effort Supply and Demand featuring the single "Shout Out Loud", and put out his third album Last Days at the Lodge in 2008, diversifying his instrumentation and enhancing his neo soul sound.

Amos Lee never disappoints! He was phenomenal acoustically at the beginning of the show and soared when the symphony came out and played with him! Love this man!

Went to his show with The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on the Friday before this show and thought there was no way that the acoustic show could top the ASO show, but was blown away with his performance at The Tivoli!! I ve been a fan for years, but this show was unforgettable!!

This was a good place for an acoustic concert. Amos Lee sounded perfect. His voice carried to the ceiling without a microphone. The Tivoli theatre is an old rustic building but a great place to enjoy the show.

I thought the show was amazing. Lee captured his audience's attention and kept them fix for the 2 hours he sang for. The venue....... overcrowded. I did appreciate that you were allowed to bring in outside food and that you could buy wine by the bottle. If you have never heard of Amos Lee before I would recommend checking him out.

Amos Lee has a unique way of capturing the crowd and involving them in his music, it's no wonder I've seen him play four times. Every time I see him, I leave the show thinking it was more than worth the price of admission. I love his music on CD, but his live performances make that music sound even better. Even when he's not playing, he's great to see. His bits between songs are always witty and keep the audience hooked and excited to hear the next song. Because of this, he has a large, devoted following in the Portland area. Overall, Amos is a fantastic artist, and I would recommend one of his shows to anyone.

There were two firsts for me at this show. 1. I had never seen Amos Lee live before and actually had only heard a handful of his songs. 2. I had never been to an aZoo concert before. After seeing the show last night in what was luckily only a couple of small, brief rain spurts, I can say that that it won't be the last time for either of these "firsts". I took my daughter for her 17th birthday present and it was an excellent gift because the singing and musicianship was great. Mutlu singing and playing an acoustic guitar by himself, was the opening act. Great voice and range. His song, "Board Games" was funny and even funky. He closed with a Stevie Wonder song that was solid. Amos came out and then played 2-1/2 hours of music that varied from soft pop, country, blues, funky, and Philly Soul. He worked the crowd very well and had us all involved throughout the show. His voice is very unique and effortless in reaching and holding the right notes. If you are looking to see some music without all the flash and just be entertained by true musicianship, I highly recommend seeing Amos Lee.

Amos Lee is an enigma among performers. His versatility and musicality transcends a vast array of styles and treatments including country, blues, folk, rock, Cajun, and soul. His sound is unique and signature. At times he emulates the soulful sounds of his Philadelphia roots before it transcends into a bluegrass-type rendition of his own composition. Lee s accomplished band, mostly from his home town, compliments his musical styles with enthusiasm that s full of funk and rhythm. Lee s voice at times is raucous, steamy, raspy, smoky, or softly pleading depending on the song. His vocal range transports the listener from Hank Williams low notes to Smokey Robinson peaks — the women love it! Amos Lee gives his audience what they came for a foot stomp n, hip shake n, hand clapp n, soul search n down home good time and plenty of it.

My first Summer Zoo concert, drove in from Hood River and took the Max from Cascade Station. There wasn't a blade of grass left to sit on. Enjoyed the opening music, birds and did lots of people watching in the 2.5 hour wait for Amos and his band. I have been a big fan of Amos Lee and have all his CDs. He was outstanding in life concert. Loved the way his energy increased with each song. He has a darling backside, but wished he would face the audience more when he gets into his guitar playing. The bit of rain didn't damped my enjoyment. Amos' lyrics touch me in so many ways. Come back to the Pacific Northwest soon, Amos...you make me swoon!

Amos Lee reaches out - The interaction of the band moves beyond the stage, transcends age and station. Accessible and real - music that brings you home. He is is in your living room with his guitar telling you what has happened to you has happened before - and you will be OK. Clearly an artist who has felt pain - pours it out , and sits with you wherever you are giving something back. What a gift it is. Listen to "All my Friends", "Colors" and "Soul Suckers".

Amos Lee is coming! I saw his show at the Alladin two years ago,it was good. The zoo show was amazing! He has really grown into a strong performer. he is getting so confident and really coming into his own. His music is stronger and his connection to the other band members is showing on stage through some wonderful improvisation. I love how he artistically changes up the older songs to make them feel fresh and new each time. i found the dynamics on stage fun and natural. The mix of humor and charm throughout the show made for an experience that felt real and down to earth. I cant wait to see his career blaze from here. I WILL DEFINATELY BE BACK NEXT YEAR!!!!

What a way to end the season, we attended many music events this year and by far this was the most enjoyable. We were treated as though they truly enjoyed performing for us and the crowd responded every time, He gave & gave after the standing ovation (unlike so many performers who make it look like a burden). The rains didn't seem to dampen anyones spirits. We all absolutely loved it!

The concert was a BLAST! We got there an hour before which was too late to get a good seat, but we camped out in the back on the lawn until the concert started and then we stood by the stage, which was the best decision of our lives. We danced and grooved to his songs. I was loving his ad-lib too!! He is even more amazing live, which is all you can want from an artist in concert! Even through the rain, I had a kick ass time!

The Murat needs a good renovation; the seats are small and too close together; the bathroom set up is absurd. My only complaints about Amos are that the merch table could've had more, and $30 for a poster? If it was signed, no problem... otherwise it was an AMAZING show! Great selection of tunes, sounded great, band with him was good (Freddy is always the man)! Had a fantastic time and always play Amos' cd's for folks who don't yet know his music. I saw Amos a couple weeks earlier at Red Rocks when he opened for MMJ and it was only a teaser, so I had to catch this show before he jumped the pond. One 2 hour flight and one 6 hour car ride later I was sitting at Humphries and neither the venue nor Amos disappointed. This is such an intimate venue- there isn't a bad or FAR seat in it. It looks like someone's back yard. The seats are folding chairs like you'd see in a backyard wedding or something. His pure voice and exploding talent came through like no other. Great music as well as lyrics and vocals. The sound and light were fantastic. I just cannot go on enough about what a great show it was on every level.

What an amazing evening! First off, the Orpheum Theater is simply spectacular -- a true treasure. And all those folks who have whined in the past about the seats -- get over it! I'm 6'3" and had no trouble at all. Sight lines were great and the setting simply unparalleled. But put Amos Lee (and the boys from Calexico) in this stunning setting and the total package was waaaaay over the top. Calexico guys are awesome musicians. The sound mix was a bit challenging - lead vocals were buried for them but that's not unusual for opening act sound. Still delivered a fun, vibrant set. Their Beatles cover, done with the folks from Amos Lee's band, was a standout. And then Amos Lee and his band! Wow! Serious musical chops matched with Amos' exceptional vocal styling and personality -- a total winner. One of the best concerts of the last few years for sure. I just don't understand why people pay money to come to a concert and then sit right behind you in their booze-infused aura, yakking all through the show about how "Freakin' awesome this dude is, man!" -- NON-STOP!!!! How could they possibly know??!!! Their mouths never shut up!!!! Jeez, guys. Stay at home, put iTunes on and get drunk in private, OK??? Great , memorable evening. Thanks to all!!!

This was my 3rd time seeing Amos, and he didn't disappoint. He sang almost the entire new album--which I love--and many old faves. Amos Lee is the absolute most amazing musician I have ever seen live. His records do not do his talent justice. His entire band is incredible and the show was completely magical. I have tried for 2 years to get tickets to see Amos Lee, but his shows sell out really fast. Now I know why. This was hands-down the best concert I have ever attended. The 20th Century Theater is small and intimate. Amos sang song after song, telling a beautiful story in each one. He and his band sound so pure, it was breathtaking. Amos has such a raw and natural talent. I love his CDs, but they cannot begin to compare to his live performances. He is full of emotion and took the crowd on a journey with him. Amos is my favorite artist. I have seen him once before in Madison Wi. It was an indoor concert and was very relaxing and he played his music true to his albums. This time was SOOO much better because he just would play a song and then talk/sing/freestyle to the crowd about whatever came into his head. I loved it. This show was fantastic. This is my second time seeing Amos Lee, first time in a solo acoustic setting. Honestly, the solo acoustic was better--the band was amazing, but solo allowed for a lot more relaxed and personable show, which his music lent itself to. I really like the style of his previous albums. More solo and acoustic. He 'rapped' some as well as several songs were more about the band playing without him singing much. Many of those songs were so long and just the band playing. It felt like he was trying to go a different direction with his music. I loved when he played solo and his acoustic low key songs from past albums. That was the feel I was hoping for during the entire concert.

I had been a fan for many years but could never coordinate my schedule to catch him live. Had the opportunity to catch him in Boston at the Opera House (amazing venue!) We drove almost 2 hours each way for this. I brought with me a woman who has never heard him sing. This was not a concert my friend. This was a religious experience! To hear his tone, his range, and his performance level was truly an unearthly experience. He sang old songs, he sang new songs, he even performed a cover or two. It really captivated the audience. He had my devoted consciousness with every note. You left the venue in love. Still swooning from his spell days later. He has grown as an artist so much over the last 5 years alone. Do yourself a favor and see this man live. I know now I can die happy to have had the pleasure.

Seeing soulful Amos Lee and captivating David Gray was my favorite concert so far!!! Most magical and enjoyable night of music with these two accompanied by LA Phil!!!! My only wish was that the show was longer!!

Great show! Amazing how the rain stopped just minutes before the show started! It was perfect! The best thing about HB is that you can bring in your own picnic items. We got there early (and wet) so we could enjoy the picnic area and our sandwiches. It was a small turnout for this show, not as many people as I expected but I'm guessing a lot didn't show due to the weather. Amos and David both played their hit songs and then had one final song they played together at the end. I would see them both again. Sad that none of the audience wanted to get up and dance. I realize its somewhat slow music but my wife and I found the lovey songs were great for a bit of tango. I think they could make some major improvements in the sound by putting some speakers closer or upgrading their sound system but the acoustics of the bowl are nice. Great view of the Hollywood sign in the background.

Priscilla Ahn opened for Amos Lee, and really entertained the crowd. Amos Lee & band came out and gave everyone their money's worth! My first time to see both artists live, and I'll see them again when back in area.

Amos Lee was absolutely wonderful! You should always go see people like him in smaller, more intimate places. Nothing about his show was rushed or felt like he was going through the motions. He took his time with everything, interacted with the audience, told background stories, cracked jokes.. Parts of the show felt like we were sitting down for a taping for VH1's Storytellers. It felt like he was just 'one of the guys', as opposed to just a performer getting on stage and singing a few songs to earn a paycheck. I would definitely go back to see him and I would recommend him to everyone!

Simply amazing! Amos Lee has always been a talented musician and wonderful performer, but this show demonstrated that he has reached a whole new level. Probably one of the best concerts I have ever been to and that says a lot considering I have attended over 100! I didn't want the night to end.

Amos Lee was amazing, his opener was equally intriguing and passionate, not to mention the theatre they played in was beautiful... I had an awful seat in the far back right though so my only complaint was my own fault by not getting better tickets.

The opener (Jessica Lea Mayfield) was not very good. It was the first time I had seen her or heard of her and was waiting for her to say "Just Kidding!" and do something else, but she never did. SInce I trust Amos' judgement and thought maybe it was just an "off" night for her I went home and checked her out online. Studio stuff was slightly better and far more listenable but this live performance was just very bad. I did end up finding out about her brother David Mayfield and was very impressed with his talent. But on to Amos. This guy is one of the best talents out there right now (and has been for some time). He has intelligent lyrics and superb songwriting capability. In addition to his ability to choose incredibly talented people to play with him only enhance the overall quality of music. All of this was on display during this show. I don't know how Amos Lee is not more popular. I tried to see him a few years ago but the DC show was sold out. (It was right after "Sweet Pea" was used in that comercial) This show had far too many empty seats. Baltimore, You missed out! He played music from everyone of his full length albums and reqorked several of them to have a new sound. This type of talent is far too rare and too often overlooked. The venue (Modell Lyric Opera House) was great. I love these types of places. They are built to carry sound and maintain the highest level of acoustic quality and I was not disappointed. If you have been to the Myerhoff it is very similar is style, but a little smaller. Just a great venue. I have been going to concerts since the age of 16 and I am now in my mid-30's and this is easily one of the best shows I have ever been to. I could go on and on about how great this guy is and how fantastic his songs are but I would be keeping you from listening to him. So what are you waiting for? Go get some Amos in your ears.

Amos is hands down our favorite musician!! We love EVERYTHING he does and just to prove it flew across the country to hear him live at The Beacon Theater in Manhattan. What a night!!! His performance was personal and flawless as always! Flew to see him in San Diego three years ago at the House of Blues, tiny venue, and thought it couldn't get any better. Well…..I was wrong. The impeccable acoustics at The Beacon were unbelievable and we felt like there was no place on earth we'd rather be! Thanks for always bringing it home Amos! We'll see you in our hometown of Portland soon….but never soon enough!!

Amos Lee is an incredible performer and person. He connected with the audience right away and played his heart out for us. He shared with us some special songs that he wrote for people that he plays for when they are in the hospital or homebound due to severe illness. He shared the stage with his friend who opened the show and together they made it special as well. In 50 years of hearing live music, this performance was one of the most memorable because of his music, his performance and his connection with other people.

We sat in the upper balcony right next to stairs that led down to a bar one level below. If you're going to a rock and roll concert, it doesn't matter if you're right next to the bar, you can't hear them no matter what. If you're going to see Amos Lee as a solo act, playing on an acoustic guitar, you hear every single word the four employees jabber at each other, often louder than the performance. Even after being asked to quiet down, they returned to their loud conversation about four songs later. It was terribly distracting. Highly disappointed.

The Fillmore was the perfect size venue for Amos Lee. It was exactly how it was promoted....an intimate night with Amos! I've seen him in smaller venues and was afraid this would not be as engaging. But it was perfect! If you haven't seen him in concert, he's a must see!

Amos was great! He shared very intimate and personal stories; just he and his guitar. It felt like he was entertaining his family. He even took requests and played new music (songs). The only complaint was that we couldn't take drinks (alcohol) to our seats; we had to drink in the lobby, that was not fun.

Amos Lee is one of the best live acts! Great new music and classic songs with new twists. The venue really needs to install AC or ceiling fans. Everyone was sweaty and uncomfortable. Some one passed out.
