Far beyond my expectations! They all sounded great! Hearing "Hey Nineteen" just blew me away!! Then they covered Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" - the female vocalist rocked the house. Only longed for more at the end. Nice to have Michael McDonald living in Maui and playing with his friends so frequently in the islands. Don't miss this show if they come to your town. Small venue was perfect.

On a cool summer night, the Dukes of September not only rocked the house, they dug deep into the collective soul of rock and roll. From the opening strains of Whos that Lady to the closing of Buddy Miles Changes the show was one of the best I have seen and heard. Of course the highlights were the tunes made famous by the solo artists. The Steely Dan numbers got the house rockin....

Very solid show. I wish they played a few more of their own compositions. I enjoyed the covers that I was familiar with. The more obscure covers were not as enjoyable for me. Michael McDonald singing backup on Steely Dan songs is always a treat.

If you like these guys when they are out on their own, you will love them together. This was an outstanding show. All three were in fine form - the music couldn't have been better. Would have liked to hear a little more Steely Dan music but that's just a personal preference. The only negative for us was the folks who were sitting in front of us . . . they talked non-stop. Eventually they did move and we were able to enjoy the show!

To see these 3 magical men, backed by one of the best backing bands i have ever seen, is more than a treat. At first blush, you might think their styles do not mix, but that is far from accurate. It was a musical review where every part of the band took their turn in the spotlight, revisiting songs that influenced these performers way back when. If you have an interest in these artists, go. This may never happen again. This is by far one of the tightest shows i have ever witnessed, proving that musicians are still out there, still creating, still vibrant. Carry on, Dukes..... the pleasure was all ours...

The show could have been better if they included more of their hits from the past and less golden oldies of other artists and less of the backup singers singing on their own. We did not pay to hear backup singers going solo. What's up with that? Also, Boz Scaggs could have done more of his hits.

We got there right on time on a chilly night but they had us warmed up quickly. Played all the hits ya wanted and some classic oldies. Excellent show ! I wish more of the older bands would get out there and give you your monies worth instead of just going out and collecting a check based on past fame. Three Ho's and Five Stars to those three.

Reviews of this show can hardly be about what it was, but rather what is was not. Although the show was good, it could have been spectacular had they played more of their own music. Fagan, Scaggs and McDonald have so much fanastic material, it's a bit of a waste to spend time singing Help me Rhonda and countless songs from other artists. Although those songs are enjoyable, they don't measure up in any meaningful way against their own songs. It leaves us wondering if this was an economic decision... Are they unable to play their own material without the rest of their bands? It seemed to me that people had a good time, especially when they played one of maybe 10 of their own songs. These guys are extraordinarily talented and displayed this over more than 2 hrs. It's unfortunate that they did not play the songs that show-cased that talent. The show left me wanting.

After reading an online review of the show that was very unflattering I was not really expecting the show to be as awesome as it was. We thoroughly enjoyed the songs they picked. The show had a great rhythm and the night flew by. All 3 singers voices are still great. The only thing for me that would have made the show better is if Fagan sang "Deacon Blue." - Maybe that will be on their playlist for the next tour.

Great Night. I didn't know what to expect, and I was entertained from beginning to end. The backup singers were fantastic, the band was superb and the "Dukes" rocked. The highlight of my husband's night was the cover of Thunderclap Newman's " Something in the Air", so unexpected and again sounded great!

Best of show was when each 'Duke' did their 3 or 4 classics (Boz - Lowdown, Miss Sun; Mike - Keep Forgettin, Takin it to the Streets; Donald - Green Flower Street, Reelin in the Years). But the highlight was Pretzel Logic. Awesome. Some of the classic stuff the band did was excellent too - 'Love Train', 'Help me Rhonda' to name a couple. if i had one complaint, some of the earlier covers done seemed a little overproduced. i could've done without that stuff and had more Boz/Mike/Donald music.

A good show, with all three on the stage at the same time. Each played three or four of their songs and the rest were covers. The band was great, I just did not care for the covers this time.

First, the Ravinia is one beautiful venue with an awesome sound system. Second, I surveyed the audience; my guest and I must've been the youngest couple, which says volumes. The volumes is that music transcend all ages/race, in my opinion. Everyone was jamming. I've always loved Michael McDonald (the Doobie Brothers)! He has such a beautiful soulful voice. I don't complain when he performs many of the Motown classics. Third, the other two gentlemen, Boz & Fagen, were AWESOME! I wish the Ravinia would have announced their names along with, 'Dukes of September' when promoting their show. I'm sure it would've been a sell out. They performed Motown, Doobie Brothers, Jimmie Hendricks and Janis Joplin classics, to just name a few artists. I'm sure I missed a few; no disrespect. If the tour comes your way, you should definitely go check them out! Great venue, weather, show, company and free tickets. You couldn't ask for more!

The band and the concert were great. I felt bad that both outside sections were empty. That show should have sold out. I don't think enough people knew who was playing. The members names should have preceded the band name in advertising.

Three music icons together on stage--how could you miss? Well, for one, they were not as good as I remember growing up. That is to be expected; after all, many, many years have passed! Boz Scaggs, however, still has it. He was great--sounded just like he did in his heyday. What I did not like was the amount of time the female singers were given in the spotlight. They were good, but they weren't who I paid to see. I would have loved that time spent on more of the Doobie's or Steely Dan's classics.

We were not sure how the evening would play out, but were thrilled to see all three artists on stage singing lead and back up for each other. Michael McDonald was wonderful with his soulful melodies and sensuous growls. Donald Fagan was fun as emcee, and seemed to so enjoy singing his Steely Dan tunes and watching the audience get into it. But the best part of the night was Boz Skaggs. He sounded, played and looked fabulous! I could have listened to him all night, and so enjoyed dancing to his songs. The back up singers were phenomenal, but with the talent of these gentlemen would have preferred to hear more of the men and less of the women. While I had hoped to hear more of their own tunes, we did truly enjoy the covers of their favorite songs. I would listen to them sing anything. Fabulous music + great venue + amazing weather = One Wonderful Unforgettable Evening. Thank you, Gentlemen xox

This concert was without a doubt, one of the best I have had the providence to attend. The supporting band was super! You get the sense that the three main performers are very particular about how their music is presented, and despite not being sold out, (Toledo's loss) they gave a show that showed their professionalism and pride in their music. Every song performed knocked your socks off in its presentation. All of the three band leaders complimented one another and it seemed like they really enjoyed playing one another's music. All of the cover songs were excellent choices, and performed with a telling love of each one. I loved it too! I would see them again if given the chance, and if you get than chance, DO NOT MISS IT!

What a night! I can honestly say I can cross one more thing off of my bucketlist. This was a concert of a lifetime for me. I love Boz and was thrilled to hear Lido (had to play Silk Degrees when I got home); plus Michael singing What a Food Believes (and had to play the album...thankfully I still have a turntable!). I loved the whole concert. Sometimes the seating was a tad uncomfortable, but that was ok. I still have the whole evening running through my head.

The Dukes of September tore up the Toledo Zoo Aug. 15 with a marvelous mix of their own tunes and covers of some amazing artists. Michael McDonald's voice was much better than last year's Dukes show, Donald Fagen was a real showman who plunked his keyboard with precision, and Boz Scaggs showed no age and really stole the show with his tunes, esp. Lowdown and Lido Shuffle, as well as contributing superbly to the shard vocals on songs. Herrington, on guitar, was as stunning as he always is, whether playing for Steely Dan or in this venue, the girls who sang were excellent, and a huge shout-out to the rest of the band, bass, horns section and keyboards. It was a night I hated to see end!

Was very disappointed in the concert!! We paid approx $100 a ticket, and Michael who's voice is such a gift let the backup singers sing his songs. I didn't pay good money to hear that!!! I also thought the song selection was marginal at best! As a matter of fact my husband and I cancelled our European cruise figuring we won't get what is promised! I would say each guy let us down either between the choice of music, the sound they played, or backup singers out staged them.

Right off the bat, 1st guitar riff, the Isley Bros, back of my mind I'm thinking this has potential. Michael Mc Donald, still strong, Bozz Scaggs was a killer, vocals are on the money. Donald Fagen.... want to be kind cause I love his work, voice not as strong as it once was, a shadow of it but he works with what he has and I can live with that. Band was tight and they had fun. Random acts of dancing breaking out all over the place, Don't remember the tune, Bozz sang, it was a 50's song, drove me and my girl out of our seats to find some dance area.... could not contain ourselves.. Had a terrific time. Thank You Dukes of September. One huge issue for me is people not understanding that at a concert, people want to move to the music. Jerks around us called security on a girl a few rows in front of us who was up and moving to the music.. Ya know what, if you want to sit on your ass and listen to music, listen to it on your home system... don't be hating on folks with more emotion and passion than you.

Cheryl and I went to see them in Toledo last night, and it was a fabulous show. The three "Dukes" are Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers), Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), and Boz Scaggs. I must also mention that they had a couple of backup singers that were given showcase songs and deserved the spot, so there was a lot of good music on the stage. They played some of their well known hits, but also a number of just plain great songs by great artists. And what I enjoyed particularly were songs that were made famous by one artist, but they did the original version instead. For example, Piece of my Heart was made famous by Janis Joplin, but they did the version originally recorded by Aretha Franklin's sister. Talk about deep cuts! At a conservative estimate the three Dukes themselves represented 120 years of music performance experience, and this show looked like it. Solid rock for several hours, and a great night out with my sweetie.

I really like all 3 of these artists, I have seen each one of them with their original band. Between the 3 of them they have too many hits to mention. Well that is not what we got at the show. There were 2 backup singers and each one of them did their own song, Really!! Not what I paid for. Then each of the Dukes covered songs from other artists, with mixed results. Boz did Trouble Man, and it was awesome, but some of the other covers just didn't cut it, especially when each one of them had a huge list of songs to choose from. Also the show was pretty short for 3 artists -- about 2 hours. Don't get me wrong, when they did their hits they sounded great, the problem being they didn't do a lot of their hits. I should have went to Jackson Browne instead.

My husband & I just saw the Dukes of September concert in Cleveland this past Tuesday night. My husband was so excited so the show. He's a HUGE Donald Fagen and Micheal McDonald fan. We were curious on how the show was going to unfold. I thought they might do their own thing individually and then met up at the end altogether to jam. However, we soon found out that all 3 of them played together through out the concert along with a solid back up band. Now I understand why they did it this way. I personally feel that Donald and Michael did have the voices to carry a whole concert. They couldn't hit the higher notes. And they didn't perform a lot of their hits. They perfer to sing other people's songs. Also, the sound was very muffled especially when those two sang. My husband hated it when the back up singers did their own songs. He felt we should not have paid BIG money to see an unknown performers. Thankfully, Bog Scaggs, who by the way is the eldest of the three, sounded and played great. Bog was the hero of the night. I told my husband afterwards that I'm gonna go and check out more of Bog Scaggs music. He pleasantly surprised us. The show was just the music. No bells, no whistles, no lights, no videos, just music.

The show was very good. The crowd was well-behaved older like me and my date. These guys are the corner stone of classic rock back in the 70's and 80's. It was a perfect night for a concert on the river. Grandstand seating was a tad cramped, but not sold out so we could stretch out a little. Always loved Michael McDonald. Saw him perform alone in the Virgin Islands a couple years ago and he was phenomenal!! His voice is so good he made the Doobie Brothers back in the day. Never saw Donald Fagan but am a huge Steely Dan fan. They never toured when I was back in college so it was awesome seeing him perform. Boz Scaggs I saw in the Flats years ago. They all were fantastic.

These are 3 artists we love. We'd never seen Fagen or Skaggs before and were looking forward to this show, especially because it wasn't in the Blaisdell Arena, but in the Blaisdell Concert Hall. We were upstairs in the balcony where there was absolutely NO consideration by the sound crew for us. All we heard were horn arrays and boomy, muddled bass. You couldn't even tell it was Boz singing, occasionally, you could tell it was Fagen. Everything instrument and every voice was a jumble of sound with no delineation whatsoever. The vocals were no louder than the rest of the band. The piano didn't sound real when Fagen played it alone. If I were alone, I would have left. There were 5 of us who paid $112 each for the privilege of a huge disappointment. Had the sound man NOT overpowered the hall, perhaps it would have been passable. This hall was built for a symphony. Its acoustics are very good, but NOT when overpowered. I simply HATE to give what was probably a very good show such a poor review, but poor audio can make it or break it. When I dropped in downstairs and heard decent audio, I was shocked and my wife was angered. I've never been to a concert where we both said we should get our money back, but this was it. My wife, who is not as critical as I am said it made her want to just buy CDs in the future. This is not what going to a concert is supposed to be about. Even looking around at the other people upstairs I could tell they weren't pleased from the minimal applause while the roaring crowd was below.

Fagen gifted the faithful with a few of the classics from Steely Dan, McDonald belted out some of his and Boz Skaggs really impressed with how sweet his voice still is and made all HIS oldies but goodies REALLY sound great as well. Since drinks were allowed throughout the concert, my view was too often blocked by folks walking back and forth to the concessions, AND the ushers battle from start to finish with smart phone users who either can't read or don't care to follow the rules about NOT using them during the concert to take videos/pictures really took away from my experience. AUWE! The boys on stage and associates were just great tho. Right on fellahs for coming to Honolulu.

Overall a great concert - well worth the price of tickets. There was a great ensemble of musicians - a heavyweight cast for sure - in particular, I was pleasantly surprised to see "Ready" Freddy Washington on bass - did a great job on the Sly & the Family Stone classic "Thank You" - old school thumb-slapping/string-pulling funk technique - impressive. The two femal vocalists were outstanding - both Carolyn Leonhart and Catherine Russell were surely deserving of their lead opportunities during the performance. And guitarist Jon Herrington, one of the orignal Steely Dan members, was solid to say the least - his solos on the featured songs were clean and precise. Trumpet player Michael Leonhart, another "Steely" alumnus, lead a spirited brass section that perfectly complemented the collection of performers. I have to admit that The "Dukes" lost me for a while after the beginning of the show when they ventured off and did covers of (I'm guessing) some of their personal favorite songs - the exception being Boz Scaggs doing "Love TKO" - wow, he does have a great vocal style. I don't recall being particularly impressed with his vocals in the "Silk Degrees" years but if anything, he's gotten better over the years - rare in the music industry. I can't say the same for Michael McDonald. He was straining noticably during the opening numbers however seemed to regain his vocal integrity as the evening progressed. Donald Fagen - well - nothing more you can say - he's Donald Fagen - the master of unique chord combinations and vocal phrasing. Individually they each had their moments - collectively, at times they were able to create magic. I think that everyone was pretty much expecting Dukes of September to trade off between themselves - playing their hits - taking us on a nostalgic journey - going back in time to the happier moments of our youth. True for the most part but supplemented by sprinkles of cover hits selected to showcase the individual talents of these truly exceptional artists/entertainers. This brings us to a couple of obvious questions - Is this a temporary union of legends or will they "hang" for a while? Maybe a CD or two? "Come on guys - let's see it.". The Traveling Wilburys did it - it's time for an injection of excitement for music lovers. Lynne, Harrison, Orbison, Petty & Dylan did it - fast forward 10 or 15 year - why can't Fagen, Scaggs & McDonald do the same? I say "give it a shot" - I'd listen - who wouldn't?

GREAT CONCERT...The boys put on a great show in Honolulu, Oct. 23. They played almost two-and-a-half hours including their encore. The only negative comment I have is that I could not hear Fagan playing the piano. There were a lot of instruments on stage, and the acoustics were not balanced inside the Blaisdell Concert Hall. I could tell Fagan was playing his heart out on the piano, but I could not hear it from my balcony seat. Really, I would have preferred to just have Michael, Boz and Fagan on the stage alone with maybe just two other back up instruments. I still really enjoyed myself and the guys gave it 100 percent effort.

I wanted to hear original compositions; not a bunch of covers...also, as good as the backup singers were, I did NOT want to see them sing lead. Huge disappointment!

These three entertainers were great together; singing together at times and solo on their big hits. The two female backup singers were awesome and added great backup and harmony throughout. Left wanting more.

Thought they would perform more of their individual hits, instead they performed more cover songs collectively than I would have liked to have heard. Would have rather seen them take the stage individually to play a set of four or five of their greatest hits each first, then collectively perform together. Also, thought they overcompensated for their aging voices by amping up the volume of the instruments, which I did not think they had to do. I'd still would have appreciated listening to their voices as is. Back up singers were good, but again volume was too loud--sounded schreechy when they belted it out. All in all it was an okay concert performance, but one in which I would not look forward to seeing return.

Talent and experience blended together with creativity for a rousing show. I edpecially enjoyed their covers of other rhythm & blues & soul tunes like Chuck Berry and the Isley Brothers. The effect was a full and rich sound. Volume and blend was great. Powerful backup singers beautiflly showcased. What can you say but the best when Catherine Russell is your backup. Boz sounded like honedy, Donald twisted, and Michael boom boom with wonderfully creative piano openings to songs. A wonderful show. I didn't stop dancing in my seat for a moment!

Loved when the boys played and sang! Enjoyed the backup singers who were talented but their mikes were too loud so at times it felt like they were screaming when they took the lead. Otherwise it would have been five stars!

The Dukes of September concert was way less than professional. The sound of the instruments continually blocked out the voices of the principles. It was clear from the start that these singers are over the hill. This is the last time I will waste my time and money on artists from my generation.

Great show! Boz Scaggs definitely the best of the three, sounding great, played great guitar, and was very classy in taking his bows. Fagen? Yeah, he rocked! Made me remember that the piano is a PERCUSSION instrument. He played counterpoint to McDonald and Jim Beard's keyboards all night long. Something about his singing wasn't quite right, though. I don't think that they had enough reverb or something for him. While I love Michael McDonald, I have to say that he struggled to hit the high notes, often not making it. Not a put-down, just the facts... I guess we're all aging, my friend. I heard this said of another singer, and I think it holds for him: he never sang in falsetto, he just sang really high. And now that he's losing it, it's a little sad. The worst part of the show? Whoever was running the sound system had it up WAY TOO LOUD! HORRIBLE! This is the reason I could only give the show 4 stars\u2014 we were at the threshold of pain the whole night. Where do I send my ear doctor bill???

It was great to hear the real music again. The knid of music that takes talent to write and preform. The joining of these guys with their own unique styles is refreshing. Then adding their combined talents, the WOW factor is high!!

Expected to hear more of their own works with the input of each others specialties. Did not want to hear them play other artists songs to their renderings. Good blues setup on songs but weak on some melodies Michael McDonald who we always loved to hear sing, was not strong, could not hit the notes he used to and sounded muddled at times... Lost his crisp , strong singing voice. Seems like age has taken its effect. Wish we could hear more Steely Dan favorites instead of the blues sides Boss was the only strong point of the Dukes...Still strong in voice and his playing great Too bad ...I was very disappointed and so were many who were there. Hope they were better in Maui, since I am also from Maui and my friends haven't called me yet???

You didn't dare pull out a cell phone for any reason during their concert. Security was tight on this. The first concert I've been to ever where this was done. Perhaps there was a good reason for this: if clips were uploaded to YouTube, I would have known to skip this show. Boz was great but he couldn't make up for Michael MacDonald who (in my opinion) had an I'd-rather-be-anywhere-than-here attitude that expressed itself in his singing and playing.

Highly enjoyable evening at the Amphitheatre - everything was perfect - the weather - the music - the three men rocked it along with their great back-up singers who even sang a couple of songs themselves and were very impressive - not everyone can do a Janis Joplin song!- guess my only complaint was that it wasn't LONG ENOUGH - with that trio - they could have played until dawn and I'm sure we would have all stayed!!!!

The sound quality was not good at all; the bass dominated, the vocals were muffled, and the overall sound was as if I were wearing earplugs and had a pillow over my head. I imagine they played and sang well, because, how could they not???

Securing our seats for this event, we were curious to know what the group would be about: if we were seeing three separate 'vignette" shows; if it'd be an amalgamation of the three; if they'd be performing the faves and/or new material ala The Traveling Wilburys. So now we know - The Dukes of September is actually an amalgamation of the three artists with players, which is a fantastic concept. However... a good amount of the almost two hour set was indulgent with other artists' songs. (Not to say that we don't love Erma Franklin, Sly & The Family Stone, etc. but psst - if you're going to perform older music PERFORM YOUR OWN MATERIAL.) Between these three greats, it's not like they might run out of songs. Also, as good as the back-up singers were, we came to hear the headliners perform. There was not enough of Michael McDonald on his own songs. Conversely, Boz Scaggs has lost no momentum - would have loved to hear Lido Shuffle but it was not played. At the end of the day, we ended up paying $175 per ticket for a good cover band.

The Dukes of September show in St Augustine was one of the best concerts we have ever been to and we've been to hundreds of them over the years. Love the songs, love the venue - it was perfect. Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald and Donald Fagen sound just as good now as they ever did and Fagen did a great job of "emceeing" the show to keep in moving along. Would highly recommend this show to anyone who is a fan of either of these guys. And the St. Augustine Amphitheatre is the best place ever to see a show!! Recommend seating anywhere but in the orchestra pit chairs however.

Great musical evening. The Dukes were having fun and playing the hits. Nice mix of well loved tunes. Great guitar by the backup man and some sweet licks from Boz. McDonald added a nice touch to the Steely Dan songs. (I'd forgotten he was a back up singer for them.) Almost sounded more Dan than their own tour. Peg, especially. Fun night. Thanks, guys

Great mix of great tunes arraigned well with each other. Well done fellas! Now, I'm just wondering what it will take to get Donald to play some solo stuff. The Nightfly, Tomorrows Girls, Morph the Cat, anything. That would have put the show over the top for me.

Had seen this show in Atlantic City and appreciated the smaller venue in the Beacon Theatre. The trio played to the crowd, giving us some classics of their own as well as songs of other artists with their version. Played for approx. 3 hrs and could have enjoyed more!

The Donald runs the show and Boz and Michael are capable wing-men. Donald and Michael's voices are more limited nowadays and tonight Michael couldn't seem to warm his up even after a few songs. The Steely Dan backup band and singers were great, expecially Jon Herrington's guitar playing and when singer Carolyn Leonhart blew the house down with a cover of Aretha Franklin's version of "Heard it through the Grapevine". The format of the show was to give some face time to all the performers on stage, and I do agree that the backup singers were more prominently featured than one might expect but Leonhart and Catherine Russell are great talents in their own right. I loved the Dan tunes (5 in all) but wish that Fagan would have given us one of his solo tunes like "Countermoon." McDonald can still rock the house with "Taking it to the Streets" and Scaggs' voice is in fantastic shape and his guitar playing was a bonus. The stage version of Scagg's "Llowdown" was better than the record version. I understand that some thought there were too many "covers" as opposed to individual hits of the "Dukes" but all the songs played were great and it was a fantastic evening at the Beacon.

Pretty good concert Nice mix between the three except that Boz got slighted Would say Michael's voice is weakening, Fagens's voice is mostly sill there, but Boz's voice was as good as ever. Too much time on the background singers - we did not pay to have them do solos. Boz got slighted with not enough of his old tried and true material, especially with him still possesing the strongest voice we remember of the three. Beacon is a great venue, however being in the sixth row music was far too loud compared to prior concerts we have attended there. All in all would recommend as long as you remember these guys from the 70s

This show was tight, fast paced and a joy from start to finish. Donald presided with his laid back comically sarcastic style. The music covered many of each artist's classic hits as well as covers of old classics from R&B as well as Gospel & Rock. The musicianship was outstanding as always moving through these wonderful arrangements & orchestrations with ease from genre to genre. My favorite Fagen tunes were " these days are gone forever" and Kid Charlemagne.Michael McDonald gave a great rendition of "taking it to the streets". Bozz Scaggs gave a crisp rendition of "lowdown", and he wowed the crowd with a version of " hey miss sun" which he sang with vocalist Katharine Russell (what pipes) featuring gripping solos by guitarist John Harrington. The show was played straight through without intermission and a few encores. Well Done!

When the Dukes were headlining, it was great. However, too much time was devoted to the back-up singers singing. With so much talent on the stage, it's a shame show was handed off to the back-up singers so much. Also the Buck Owens song -- terrible choice.
