Hannibal Buress

“If Steven Wright, Mos Def and Dave Chappelle had a baby, that would be disgusting, but it would sound like Hannibal Buress. The funniest young comic I’ve seen in years.” – Chris RockChicago-bred New York-based stand-up comedian Hannibal Buress established himself as a master of “comedic jokes related to personal stories, current events, the streets, and even food” (yes, someone actually wrote and published that line) in ANIMAL FURNACE, his COMEDY CENTRAL original one-hour stand-up special that premiered May 20.Hannibal Buress has appeared on LETTERMAN, FALLON, KIMMEL, FERGUSON, CONAN and numerous other late night TV shows.

Hannibal was awesome. Nothing like watching a hometown comedian at a beautiful venue as the Chicago Theater.

Hannibal was funny as to be expected, his opening act, Janelle James was really good. Well worth the ticket, I am not sure what all to say about a comedy show besides it was really funny.

The show started an hour later than the time said, but after it started, the laughter was on! The woman who opened for Hannibal was an absolute riot and her 15 minute bit was a perfect start to the show. Hannibal himself was probably one of the funniest comedians that I have seen in a long time, His show was non-stop laughter. I will definitely be seeing him again when he makes it to Indianapolis and I highly recommend it.

The venue was extremely hot ( I was actually sweating) but the two openers and Hannibal were fantastic. I would see any of them again. There was a bouncer who had a laugh that literally was just "HA! HAA!" That was a little distracting at time. It was unclear if he was trying to cue others to laugh, or if that's just how he laughed. It's also important for any performer to know their audience. Jokes about hip hop artists might fly over the heads of a predominantly flannel wearing group of hipsters. But I got it, and cracked up. Highly recommended!

Great comedian. Saw him at Zanies last summer. Great delivery and unique style. Not too filthy either so I didn't leave the show feeling dirty for laughing : )

Hannibal was hilarious. I would absolutely recommend him to a friend. That said, I'm a 22 year old male. Some of his material was a little explicit but I'm into that sort of thing. The venue was a mix of all ages (+18, obviously) and colors and it seemed like most of the crowd was really enjoying the show. For me personally? Loved it and I'll probably be buying his album. He has great jokes but he's generally just a funny person. He could step out of routine and address a crowd noise or comment and make it hilarious.

Hannibal was great. If it was just him I would rate 4. As it is this review is borderline 3 stars, probably actually 2 stars. Problem was with the DJ/Opening act/venue. DJ music/intro was just trippy, weird, and odd...just not a good mood setter for a comedy show. The opening act comedian was poor IMO. He had a couple good jokes, but his act dragged on too long and one subject and just got stale. Last 3 comedians I went to had much better opening acts. Hannibal himself I thought had a very good set. I enjoyed it. First time seeing his act after only hearing bits and pieces on Pandora. A bit odd at times compared to what I am used to but I would definitely see him again if it was not for his pick of DJ/Opening act. Last was the venue. Kalamazoo state theater was very interesting and the size seemed decent for a show, but they apparently have no HVAC, and it was probably 85-90 degrees inside in Mid September. This alone made the show difficult to fully enjoy.

First of all. The State Theater was HOT. It was actually uncomfortable. That didn't stop the laughs though. The show started out with a DJ. Now, I'm not a DJ aficionado, but it just wasn't good to me. The song choices (which again isn't a genre I listen to) weren't good (or lyrically clear to hear, that could have been the sound equalization). While I liked that there as a video screen, I didn't think it mashed that well with the music. Again, this is from someone who, it just isn't my thing. The opener, Meechie Hall was good, and better than others I've seen. His set was a more on the sexual side of things (which is great!), compared to some of Hannibal's absurd side of comedy. This is my second time seeing Hannibal. I saw him at the Oddball Festival in Chicago a couple of years ago. I had never heard of him before, but I remembered he was good, better than Chappelle that night (that was the first show after the Hartford thing, so I guess I give him a pass). Thing is, I just saw Dave a month or so ago here, his set seemed really short compared to Hannibal's. There is no quality over quantity, as both had laughter coming out. It's just my observation. Anyway, I've heard a lot more Hannibal in the last year, by listening to stand up clips on Sirrus XM. Love it. So it was a no brainer when tickets went on sale. It's a shame, he said he was here before as an opener when The Laughing Post was open. I've seen many a show there, and I don't recall him (so I'm thinking I didn't see him). Jokes were good. I loved the interaction with the screen. I wish there was more of that actually. It gives a visual thing besides just words (bad for just an audio recording though). Loved the Gibberish Rap. Hannibal was on longer than I expected, which was a good thing. Hope to see him again!

I don't know where to start... I thought Hannibal had the chance to be good, but ultimately, his opening act was a low life and his jokes were hack. Hannibal himself didn't seem to have too many jokes either and was mainly using his quasi celebrity to get him through the show. I've met and seen hundreds of comics, and this was just bad. Hannibal the Cannibal is going to clean up the cash on this tour ($35 a ticket + fees), but I feel the audience is going to be cheated. It seemed like folks in the audience who are ignorant to comedy were enjoying themselves, but if you expect the kind of comedy genius like Pryor, Murphy, Rock, or Chappelle you are going to leave sorely disappointed and wishing you had paid to see the Lions lose instead. I think Amy Schumer next month will be better. Hope this review helps!

Hannibal was amazing. I had a wonderful time. The two comedians who performed were also very entertaining, and I loved their style. There was a band that performed 5 songs, and it was unfortunately the downer of the entire show. I think the sound was not calibrated correctly for the singer, because I could barely hear her. She wanted audience participation, and I'm all like "You want us to say wha?" The dj playing the music with videos was also great. I enjoyed how that was a theme that continued into Hannibal's stand up. I also loved how Hannibal performed for an hour and a half. It was a long long night, and sooo worth the ticket price!

This was a really great show. It was funny from the beginning with comedian Kevin Boseman to Hannibal Buress closing. My partner and I love Hannibal Buress and have seen him before. He is charming, honest, in your face and so much fun to watch. Unfortunately, that did not come across in this show. He stated he was feeling ill and just coming off of some food poisoning. We were lucky that his opening act was a wonderful and super funny comedian (last name Jackson). Hannibal may have curtailed his show for the pasty white audience of Santa Barbara, but it was a great stand up by him and his producer of his upcoming show. Jokes that everyone can relate to about life situations. He also had great impromptu comebacks at audience members that blurted things out ridiculously. I could have done without the "professional rap music" guy as it just didn't fit the show. When we first walked in the DJ mixed some hard core rap with the N word and degrading things about women. I was very leery of staying for the show, but I am glad I did. Didn't get 5 stars due to the two last issues with the show.

The opening comedian was hilarious and so was Hannibal of course. Before Hannibal came on there was a musician, Open Mic Eagle (sp?). Did not expect a musical performance at a comedy show but it was very good and thought provoking. Only downside of the night was all the drunks in the audience. I totally understand drinking before a show like this, I would've had a drink too if I didn't have to drive back to Ventura after. But don't get sloshed and yell out things the comedian just mentioned. It's never cool and everyone hates you. There were like four different drunk hecklers. Hannibal handled it well of course but I have to apologize to him on behalf of Santa Barbara. Also, the bro who sat next to me reeked like that stale-beer-weed-and-cigarettes combo. Gross, bro.

Just brilliant. Al Jasckson was great, Hannibal Buress was amazing. Hilarious, smart, and full of energy. The venue was fine. Traditional theater-style seating might have been nice since it was sometimes challenging to see around other audience members' heads. But that didn't significantly detract from the experience. Overall the show was okay. Hannibal was funny, and his 2nd opener was great. The sound wasn't too great, and the DJ at the beginning didn't really go along with the show so it was hard to follow. These tickets were Standing Only. I had no idea, and wish they would have made this more clear when buying them, I don't think anyone was aware of this as well. Standing for 2+ hours in the wrong shoes, and when you're super short is not fun.

Hannibal has a great stage presence and he's super funny. His openers were also REALLY top notch. I'd definitely recommend going to see the show. The venue, though, the new Masquerade in Atlanta, was basically a giant warehouse that was impossible to find and for which you have to pay a crazy amount to park near. The show was sold out, so it was just a huge crowd of people standing on a concrete floor staring at the stage, which wasn't lifted enough to really see. If you didn't laugh as much as you wanted--and Hannibal even incorporated this into one of his bits--it's because your ankles were too swollen to think about anything else. It also started an hour later than the time it was delayed until, which was frustrating because the show was in the middle of the week. I'd still recommend going, though. They were all hilarious. I'd especially recommend it if you're very tall (so that you can see) and have no problem standing on concrete for large amounts of time. And live nearby so you can uber or walk to the venue.

As usual, Hannibal Buress brings a masterfully hilarious performance. A surprise gift to my husband for his birthday, this event was special to us as we celebrated my husband with laughter and smiles. The opener, Willie Lynch, Jr., was a great choice, as he brought some warm-up laughs to us and the audience. The pre-show DJ, Tony Trimm, was strange with his video clips played to music. Very graphic scenes including a man who turned into an alien-like being that vomited acid and disintegrated and a bloody violent fight scene with stabbing and pulling organs out. Weird stuff. We were able to overlook the strange DJ and enjoy Willie and Hannibal regardless.

I love the comedic stylings of Hannibal Buress, he also seems like a fun person to hang out with! He is super relatable and I enjoy his chill/deadpan delivery. I like how he collaborates with DJ Tony Trimm so he can use sound and video for some jokes (like his ideal funeral plans, or when he did a back-and-forth with Nelly humming). He came to my attention via "Broad City" and I hope he comes back for season 4! Al Jackson opened and he was really funny too, I think he could hold his own as a headliner. My one criticism is that the music before the show was Incredibly Loud, I wish I brought my earplugs. DJ Tony Trimm is very talented and I enjoyed his audio/visual work but I guess I'm old and can't handle volume anymore...

Hannibal Buress joked about having his show moved from DAR Constitution Hall to Lisner Auditorium because he wasn't popular enough to fill DAR on a weeknight. That may be true now but won't be in the future. He is a great creative comic and his time will come. His show is a delightful mixture of personal anecdotes and social commentary. His use of a DJ and interleaved video clips was novel and very effective. I'd recommend this show to anyone who has enjoyed Buress in any of his prior efforts.

This show was hilarious. Hannibal did his normal style of jokes (staying just as funny as ever) while also incorporating some multi-media presentation into the show. Awesome- I wish I could watch it again already. Al Jackson was his opener and was also hilarious. So great- and definitely different style than Hannibal. His DJ was good. The very beginning where the DJ was playing songs and tv/movie clips was a combijnation of really funny and shockingly disturbing. But Hannibal deserves 5 stars!!

Let's talk about the DJ first. He started out with some really loud mic test and went on to play songs and these funky music videos. These videos were weird as hell, to say the least. Funniest part of them, I thought, was a highlight of the '96 Bulls-Sonics game, which Jordan torched the home team. Moving to the opener. He was decent. Pretty much the average opener. He kept his stuff relevant to the audience. Kinda seemed like just wanted to cover his 15 minutes though. He'll get better. Now, the main guy, Hannibal Burress. Great stuff at the beginning. People were laughing their asses off. Even at times when only a few did, I think he was hitting a different comedic chord that other comedians wouldn't bother with. He set up a segment that was blown by the DJ. I think he was shook by that and didn't really recovered from it. Must have been a good set he was keeping. The last 10 minutes were just a drag. I wonder if it would have been different if the last set came through. Anyway, I'd still recommend his show.

Hannibal Montanabal came out blazing with his usual dry/wry wit. He touched on on current events like the Storm that never happened as well as poking fun of us losing the Sonics to OK City. The first act and the second act of his routine were good to great, but he started losing the audience when he started figuring his way to a close. It reminded me of times when I start rambling during a work presentation and saying words to fill time until I can get to a coherent thought. Spoiler alert, when he started chatting about speaking at his former high school, that but lasted much too long and was not that interesting or funny to boot. I left about 10 minutes before he finished, but mostly because I had to go pee, but also because I didn't feel like I was missing anything and could tell he was struggling to close. It was apparent, the good stuff was in the first 45 minutes. Much love and props because his set went well over 60 minutes and I appreciate the difficulty in holding an audience captive for that long. Still talented, would definitely recommend it. But dont be afraid to leave early to go pee.

What can I say, the man was hilarious. I still remember some of the bits and for me that's saying something. He kept us laughing all night long I would go see him again.

This guy is HILARIOUS! He was full of energy from start to finish. He made the most basic comment the funniest joke to me! I was tempted to drive to NJ and check him out for a 2nd night, I think I would have laughed even harder hearing the jokes again. I will def. go see him again!!

He put on a good show except for some of the continuous repeating.

Even though I've heard almost all of Hannibal's material already, his new show was filled with all new material and jokes and he absolutely tore it up! His 25 minute skit about "Today's Rappers" was worth the 35 dollar ticket alone. Had me in tears for that whole section of his show. Overall the show was amazing and I'd go see him again in a heartbeat! Don't sleep on this guy, he's easily one of the best new comedians on the scene.

This would have been a fantastic performance if the sound system hadn't been so bad--lots of static and mike feedback made it hard to hear what Hannibal Burress was saying, especially when he lowered his voice and made the side comments that are usually his best bits. I feel like we missed at least 1/3 of what he said due to the bad sound system.

Great show. Not your ordinary comedian or act. A bit raunchy at times so be ready for that but not as bad as others. Great content. Loved that he used some new material on us.

The opening act didn't show so it started late. The good news is Hannibal took up the entire remaining time. Can't wait to see him again at a different venue because this was my second time at the Modell Lyric center and there is too much echo in the room to follow the quite wit of a great performer such as this.

I sat orchestra level and having never been to the lyric before, I was a bit afraid that sitting in row "P" would be too far back, but it wasn't far from the stage at all. The seats were great. Hannibal Buress was gosh darn hilarious!! So so good.

I had a lot of fun at the show. It appears that the show started late due to the opening act being a no-show. This caused some of the material to be dragged out longer than it should have. However, It's Hannibal Buress! He's still funny. I enjoyed myself and hope to see his show again.

From beginning to end, Hannibal Buress had us laughing. Even with a missing opener, he held it down the whole time. He incorporated many different things in his set that made it so fresh. Highly recommended.

Hannibal kept us entertained and on the edge of our seat. He was extremely funny and unpredictable his time flew by and there did not seem to be a slow section in the hour and a half if you get the chance to see him by all means do it.

his opening act was late so he came out about 30 minutes late and apologized and decided to open for himself. The man went on for two hours (never seen that before from any comedian). His act was incredible fr his view on sports to his breakdown of rap songs was too funny. He even performed his entire set from the Justin Bieber roast which hasn't even aired yet just to try out some of the jokes which i thought was a rare gem. Highly recommend attending the event, I can't wait for him to come back to the north east so I can go and see him again!
