James Cotton remains an outstanding entertainer, and an absolute professional, and showed energy and creative flair beyond what you expect from a gentleman of his years. He respects the craft, and the music, bringing to the stage a strong supporting cast of artists. Darrell Nulisch vocals provided outstanding counterbalance to the instruments, and the trio was creative and solid. Josh King, the 12 yr old phenom, caused a reality check across the room - he can't be playing and that can't be his voice! Mr. Cotton officiated a very solid old school reminder of what the blues can be.

The blues the way they should be! James is soulful and led the audience through a spectrum of favorites. The Jazz Alley venue is the best, as a Chicao native it felt good to hear the beat and grit I miss in the Chicago music scene.

Cotton's band has two outstanding guitarists. The quality was first class and their talent amazing. Musselwhite was very personable with the audience and gave a great show. Loved the intimacy of the amphitheater.

We all have to come to a point in life of excepting the place we find our self in.Its simply the opion of one fan in attendance of concert the individual billed as a professional performer,James Cotton was totally out of sink on July16 Where would I start to dicribe a totally lack luster event ,starting songs over and over chaning harps during the performance one after the other, never hitting anything close to a groove,he seemed to be in the way of the band and singer. For thoses in the audience that could not drink him good ,they had a very sobbering experience,He spent more time slaping flys And checking his watch for time remaing sad situation.Bottom line cotton needs to be moth balled .James can Now Live Vicariously throughA true master performer He go's by the name of CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE Thank very much

The Amphitheater is so intimate that you feel like a part of things instead of just being a spectator. Charlie Musslewhite opened the show with some of his strongest stuff and encored with Cristo-redemptor (my favorite all time piece). Brief break and then one of the all time greats on the mouth-harp, James Cotton. James' health is failing and I wondered if he would live thru the event and then he started to play. He made sounds that most harp players only wish they could make. Wow, man, what a night. I had music running through my head for days. These old blues guys are a dying breed. We should soak in as much of this piece of this Americana as we can. Several hundred other folks must have agreed with me because the place was packed with fans, dancing, shaking, and having a wonderful time. I think we all would have stayed all night if they would have kept playing. Wow!

We had the time of our life in BBKing last thursday. This is what blues is about. We enjoyed Evert second of it. And than came THE final act grandfather and grandson. This opened up our hearts and gave hope for THE future.

James Cotton is a true living legend and this show proved that song after song. His stage presence, skill and joy of performing were evident from the moment he hit the stage. I was so lucky to be able to see this 76 year old blues pioneer up close and personal at BB Kings in NYC. Mr Cotton performed a stellar encore with one of his proteges a 10 year old blues virtuoso that brought the house down. Mr. Cotton was also kind enough to allow us backstage to say hello, take a photo and sign an autograph.

It's been years since last seeing the man but the in 2nd row at the Montalvo Center we saw him playing as if was just for us. Class act, tight band, lead vocals could have been better but we were really there to hear some serious harp. Go!

James Cotton was one of the 1st blues albums I ever bought "Chicago the Blues Today". Think of guitar power chords played on a harp - powerful. He is one of the last remaining originals. You gotta go.

Mr. Cotton was as cool as cotton could be. He had on both sides of him lead and rhythm guitars that sang like his harmonica. His bass player was in stride and the drums complemented every song. James sat firmly in the middle, with a voice troubled by years of service. Bur atill had more than enough to produce blues through his harp that sang to the heavens. This is truly a blues "god" that keeps your foot a tapp'in and hands a clapp'in. Thank you James Cotton......m

A Blues master backed up by an excellent band. Not too many of these older icons left. Worth checking out before they do.

The saddest thing about the James Cotton concert was the small number of younger people who were missing the performance of a master musician. The atmosphere had a vaguely 60's feeling with people mostly from that time enthusing about blues masters they had seen and reminiscing out blues scenes that they had participated in. There was almost a communal atmosphere. Despite a problem with the equipment James Cotton and his band delivered. The band was tight and personable, the music was what one dreams about when they think blues and Mr. Cotton is truly "Super harp". He is an inspiration to an aging generation - he plays with the energy of a teen ager, the technique of a master, and so clearly enjoys what he is doing that one can not help but be inspired by him. The other members clearly admire the master and enjoy what they are doing. A rare moment to be treasured. One wishes that the mind could record the audio and visual in its memory cells and access it when they are in need.

Even though James could not sing due to his age (and possible medical problems?), his performance on the harmonica was more then made up. His main guitarists and lead singer made up for this and definitely can form his own band if he wanted to. All and all I was glad I was able to see a James Cotton performance with my own eyes.
