I've looped around the country 7 times, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt were my musical passengers throughout those thousands of miles. Watching them live after all these years, sitting in the front row, placed me in an other-worldly driver's seat to witness something magical. Their familiar conversations were almost as good as the music. And the Beacon's warm, living-room feel, made their performance even more intimate. Fantastic, once in a lifetime, show!

I assumed Hiatt would come out with a band and play as a warm up act for Lovett. But no! They were introduced together and were both on stage with acoustic guitars. They started at 7:30 and played until after 10:00 non stop. It was just the two of them unplugged just trading songs back and forth. People in the audience would yell out song titles and they just played them. It was very good as both have great voices and really play guitar well. And the songwriting from each of them was and is phenomenal. A very pleasant surprise. Have never seen a concert like this before.
You'll never want to see a concert in another venue. Lyle and John were superb. Great experience. The evenings there are cool so bring a blanket. Your date will have a tough time in heels, due to the hilly terrain at the site. Not that I'd ever try to talk a pretty girl out of getting dressed up in heels....

Fabulous interactions between the artists, and, of course, the music was outstanding. The setting is a bit overwhelming for just 2 artists. I have attended other presentations here, many with a single speaker who was viewed on a large screen--would have been wonderful to have a big screen to improve viewing of this concert. And, sound was not perfect. I have never had problems understanding the speakers at this auditorium, wonder why voices were garbled at times during the concert. Overall, I appreciate the show enormously.

This is my 4th time to see Lyle and I always enjoy his vocal nuances and his finesse of the guitar strings. Their bantering was amusing and it seems obvious that they are old friends who greatly respect one another. This was my first time to see John. He is amazing in the way he bends the guitar to his will. The wide range of power and clarity of sound he can pull from a couple of pieces of wood and metal strings in awe inspiring. I will definitely see him again.

Lyle & John were an incredible combination! The Mountain Winery is a pretty kick ass place to see a show. They both did some oldies and John's new stuff was really, really good. My ONLY complaint was the parking costs +fee's. $20 for parking + $15 in fee's for each ticket adds up to $50 plus the original ticket price! I love this venue but will think twice next time because of these extra costs!

I really enjoyed the banter between Lyle and John, plus their music. I've seen Lyle several times and must admit that I like the energy of his big band better than this acoustic set. That said, this set was very good - excellent sound, excellent venue, strong performances.

It was great fun watching these two accomplished musicians entertain the crowd to no end. Their between song banter was almost the highlight. It was by no means a foot-stomping, leap-to-your-feet kind of concert, but it was a great opportunity to get to know the two of them on a far greater level than is typical. They played for a solid 2 hours 30 minutes, but as Lyle pointed out, each only had to work half the time. Highly recommended.

It was like sitting in a living room and watching a couple of old friends swap stories and songs- when one was playing the other would occasionally add their guitar or vocals to the effort. Additionally, the sound in the new Performing Arts Center is incredible. I was more familiar with Lyle's work but John was great as well.

The Valley Performing Arts Center is an excellent venue for small acoustical shows. The sound, lighting, temp and seating were fantastic. Lovett & Hiatt were funny, entertaining and informative with their playful banter between each song. They performed very well by trading off on songs and sometimes joining in when the other was performing. The sound mix was simply perfect. I gave this 4 stars and I'm a very tough one when it comes to handing out grades.

Lovet and Hiatt rocked the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge. I have seen many concerts over the years, but I must say that this was one of the best ever. The event was sensitive, thoughtful and absolutely wonderful. Lovett and Hiatt are a powerful combination of soulful, sophisticated muiscians who each sing beautifully and play a mean guitar. We left the 2 hour and 20 minute event feeling happy and inspired. The Valley Performing Arts Center is a beautiful venue. The seats LOGEC (third floor) were excellent and the sound was extremely good. Loved every second and cannot wait to see these artists perform again.

This John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett show in Huntington, WV (my hometown) was one of my favorites concerts ever. I loved hearing all my favorites being performed by these two singer songwriters. The banter between them provided additional entertainment. Two nights prior to this show I saw them in Illinois. Each show had a different vibe and although some songs were repeated, they were not in the same order. The conversations between the artists were very different each time. The IL show was more "cultured or formal" while the WV show seemed more "relaxed". As the WV audience shouted out requests, the artists seemed pleased to satisfy their desires. Both artists gave it their all singing, whistling (Hiatt) and playing their instruments to thrill the crowd. This is my fourth time seeing these two awesome artists together and did I mention I had front row tickets to the most recent two shows? Dreams really do come true!! We love you John and Lyle.

Wow, what an amazing show! The intimacy of an acoustic performance with two brilliant artists, musicians and writers and their guitars, combined with the unparalleled acoustics of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center was just magical. Honestly, I think I enjoyed it MORE without a band behind them. Both of these artists have phenomenal voices with unique tones that are unmistakable. Lyle Lovett especially blew me away with his vocals and John Hiatt is a brilliant guitar player. I don't think I truly appreciated how talented he is until this show, though I've always been a fan. Both artists were laid back and had a funny repartee going on back and forth with each other. Some members of the audience would call out requests and they interacted with everyone with kindness, respect, and humor. They even thanked the audience for their requests and expressed their appreciation that the audience knew their songs. I loved that they went all the way back to their early albums and did old favorites as well. Just a wonderful night. Highly, highly recommend this show if you are a fan!

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt took the stage together for an acoustic show with lots of banter that still seemed fresh even though they have toured together for quite some time. The music and stories were great and we left the show wanting more. That being said, they played together for almost 3 hours with no intermission and we heard a good amount of songs from each of them. We love having the Genesee close to home and not needing to go to downtown Chicago to see shows. The venue size is great and the ticket prices are usually reasonable. The downside: despite having 3 bars, their service is excruciatingly slow and expensive compared to say the Riverside or Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. The owners should take a field trip to these venues to see how the bars and vendor stands work at each venue.

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt last night in Waukegan. I m not sure they needed an audience at all, but it was truly entertaining. Low key, just the two of them sitting on stage together trading stories and songs. A lot of laughs. Lyle has an interesting perspective on things as a lot of his songs demonstrate. Also turns out that Hiatt whistles well. Who knew? Anyway a unique show and Hiatt s Have a Little Faith in Me at the end was emotional. If you get a chance... go see them. Hopefully they will be back.

No warm up band for these guys, as they handle the experience themselves. Both Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt have not lost a step and are awesome for any age group let alone their own boomer crowds. WOW, were they enjoyable, and comfortable in their own skins. They are humorous and sharp witted. Their performances on the harmonica (john) and guitars were amazing, and each vocalization was unique and memorable as hey complimented each other's style with each performance, generally adding supplemental vocals to the others song performances and the occasional guitar accompaniment. Memorable and I would get back in a heartbeat. See them if you can and want a nice evening of entertainment.

What could be better that to witness a legendary performance by a music legend? To witness legendary performances by two music legends sharing the same stage - that's what! Should you ever have the opportunity to see Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt perform together, do not hesitate. Two great singer/songwriters who are so different in nearly every aspect sharing the stage; what a concept! So, I know no one who truly likes Hiatt's vocals and no one who DOESN'T like Lyle's voice. Hiatt's guitar playing is out there. Lyle handed him a couple of leads and John went into some experimental acoustic leads that were frankly cringeworthy but, that's what happens when you pass Hiatt a lead. His musical ideas are complex and creative and that's what make him a great writer. It was like a living room jam session and I enjoyed every single minute. Lyle, soft spoken and droll; John, deeply sonorous and feisty. Excellent contrast between the two artists that I love equally.

I've seen Lyle Lovett five times, and John Hiatt three times now. I've had the pleasure of seeing them together twice now. I have really enjoyed their more "electric", full-band, performances ... but there is something VERY special about their acoustic performances. Their witty, humorous banter between songs is very enjoyable, and the respect they show each other is heart warming. And ... the music is simply amazing. For this event, I took my two grown Daughters, Son-in-law, and my two year-old Granddaughter. They had not seen this type of concert before, but they really enjoyed it. I can now claim that I took my Granddaughter to see her first concert, and it was a lot of fun. Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt (in my view) are two of America's best and most innovative singer/song-writers. If you've never seen them ... and are reading this review ... go see them. You will NOT regret it .................... ;)

These two gentlemen have beautiful voices, play beautiful guitar and write great songs. I loved their banter. I wished I could have heard two of my favorites from John Hiatt; FEELS LIKE RAIN and LIPSTICK SUNSET. That would have given them five stars. The sound levels for the guitars was great but the levels for the voices was too low in comparison to the instruments, their lyrics were drowned out sometimes.

Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are incredible guitar players and wonderful story tellers. Together, they are hilarious, totally playing off of each other. Lyle is definitely more of a dead pan than John. And seeing them at the Mountain Winery was perfect. Great setting. My only real complaint was we were sitting in the center section, about 15 rows back from the stage. The speaker array hanging over the stage seemed to be a bit hot (loud) for an acoustic show. I think I may have been right in line with one of the speakers. Not much I could have done about that. Other than that, the show was wonderful and I can't wait to see them play together again.

Never was a huge country or Americana fan.. Was late to the Lyle Party (Big Band hooked me, though).. Was only vaguely familiar with Hiatt's work.. That all changed with this show.. At the opening, it was clear that for some reason Lovett's microphone was wired into the Lyric's tinny-sounding public-address system... By comparison, Hiatt's deep, rich speaking voice came across just fine. However, as soon as Lyle launched into the vocal for his first song - Baltimore - it became apparent that that magnificent signing voice of his requires no amplification to raise the hairs on the back of your neck... The crowd was majority Geritol Generation, and I'm slightly older than Lovett; slightly younger than Hiatt...but still it was a little unnerving to get shushed for the first time ever at a live show... Honestly, I have thought about shushing, but always kept the impulse and the annoyance under control... However, I get it... Despite the venue's size, this was more like an intimate night in the living room with a couple of old friends.. They had me convinced that their stories (and, oh. what stories they told) were all improvised... I could even be convinced that they were assembling the set-list on the spot by requesting of each other the songs that the other admired most... Quite an experience. One of a kind, really...

I was not sure what to expect in hearing Lovett and Hiatt combined, as they each have strong personalities and musical styles. Yet the concert was excellent, with truly warm and friendly--and funny--interplay between the two and time for each to shine individually. Lovett was in fine voice, as always, and Hiatt fell short of some high notes only occasionally, in some ways adding to the drama of his songs. Certainly, "Feels Like Rain" was one of his many great moments, as was "Church" for Lovett. The musical highlight for me was Hiatt's "Old School," so simple and powerful and, especially considering his age, poignant. But overall we left with the feeling of having seen two old friends share their great gifts with themselves and us. I'm glad I was there.

This was my fifth time seeing Mr. Lovett play and my second time seeing him with Mr. Hiatt. And they did not disappoint! Watching the repartee between them when the spoke and seeing what seemed like genuine admiration while the other performed made this show feel very intimate. It was something I will not ever forget.

I have seen these 2 perform together 4 times and wonder how it's possible they keep getting better. John Hiatt was on fire! Both artists did new songs and some old favorites. And you cant beat the acoustics at the Birchmere. Best concert I have seen there for several years. Of course, the 2 nights were sold out because Lovett and Hiatt always do such a great show. What a team and what a night! If I Had a Boat is my favorite song!

First time I have heard these guys in concert. My wife was not familiar with their music, so I was taking a chance planning the date. We both absolutely loved the event. The acoustic guitar really showcased their musical talent. Banter between them was fun. Perfect start to Thanksgiving week.

The Modell lyric in Baltimore venue is amazing. Second time I've seen John and Lyle together they were more amazing the second time. The songs they sang hits as well as some new offerings quite remarkable and their banter with the crowd was humorous to say the least. highly recommend seeing them wherever you can

I have not been to the new Birchmere before. I was confused about how we got our seats. It was very crowded but not the Verizon center. Food was good and beer wasn't expensive. I had trouble with the sound. A little less on the playing part would have helped or the acoustics sucked. I had trouble hearing their conversation but that might be me at my age. They were really funny and enjoyed each other immensely. Lovett has a unique voice and Hiatt is raw power and soul. Saving the best known for last was a good idea. And Parking was easy and getting out not too hard. Rent a cops might have helped with that. Worth the $250 for 2 it ended up costing. Thank you.

I have seen both John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett on multiple occasions, separately and as two halves of a concert. This acoustic musical conversation was the best of all of them. The Birchmere's intimate setting made it feel as if they were friends who'd invited people over. It was a magical night.

These 2 are amazing together! They both click together and so worth seeing. I have seen them at the Orpheum a few years back and so glad I decided to go again. Brilliant as always. They compliment each other well and just 2 great voices with great guitars. You can't ask for more than that. I definitely will go see them again and again.

Why review? Anyone that is interested in seeing these two will not let a review, good or bad, change their mind. They were great. We all know how great the songs are, and the banter between them is highly entertaining. As much as I like their music, I would buy a ticket to listen to them just tell stories. Even if you think that you are a fan of only one of them, go see them in concert and you will soon be a fan of the other as well. Saw them together a couple of years ago in St. Louis, will go see them again the next time they head out together.

Lyle Lovett is always amazing. I wasn't all that familiar with John Hiatt's music but he was amazing as well. The pair of them in The Walker Theater made for a truly enjoyable evening.

Such a nice concert. Music was phenomenal. Only suggestion is a directional mic so when they are talking to each other the sound is not lost.

Went to see John Hiatt and also became a Lyle Lovett fan. Played together well and individually. First time in this theatre which was comfortable enough with seats that seemed to be padded church pews. Interesting that sound appeared to be better in the balcony. Both are standout writers and singers. This concert would be STUNNING st the Lyric Theatre in Birmingham, AL which has better acoustics.

It's been a long time since I've been to a concert I considered to be boring but this one was a real drag. These guys spent most of the evening entertaining each other rather than entertaining the audience. They would finish a song, acknowledge the applause, then each point at the other and speak the other guys name. Geez, give me a break - talk about something getting tiresome. I'm very familiar with the catalog of each artist. They both have numerous hits. It would have been nice if they had played more than a smattering of these.

Both of these men are great songwriters and performers in their own right, but watching them trade songs and stories was endlessly amusing, part musical performance and part comedy with impeccable timing. The hours flew by!

Lovett and Hiatt were in good voice and good humor. They seem like old friends playing songs and sometimes trying to outdo the other. What a treat for the audience! Funny, warm banter with incredible songs interspersed. Unbelievable evening!
