What's not to like? Singer with moves like Jagger, drummer, percussionist, multi instrumentalist, bassist, two guitarists, 5 pc strings, choir. Pleasant evening. OTOH, tell us up front you want to cage our cellphones, It wasn't the requirement as much as springing it on us after the decision was made to buy tickets. Also, the 'police state' signage put up for the comedy festival is still up. Please take it down- it really harshes the vibe.

We drove almost 6 hours from Clarksville, TN to see them as we saw them last year at Ascend Amphitheater. What an amazing show!!! We loved our weekend trip to west Lafayette, Indiana. The guys put on one hell of a show!!! I stood and danced for their whole show!!

I thought the band was great but they could have used a better sound guy. The people puking and those getting kicked out put a little damper on the night.

The first two opening acts set the stage for a high-energy show. They both contained their share of colorful characters that behaved in odd, spastic ways. They were really competent and knew how to work up a crowd. Then came Cage the Elephant. This was their first show in Los Angeles, and you could tell that their fans knew it, because boy did they show their appreciation. Their fanbase is an impressively enthusiastic crowd, chanting along with the lyrics and dancing without inhibition. The band members took turns diving into the crowd, with the lead singer at one point standing upright while supported by the outstretched arms of his fans. Audience members were invited at the end of the show to climb onto the stage with the band and dance around. It was the most fun I've had at a concert in a long, long time.

Cage the Elephant is one of the best new bands out there today and they delivered a fantastic performance--their first in Los Angeles--at the El Rey. The lead singer has incredible energy, the songs are loaded with catchy choruses. It's rare to hear an album with more than one or two songs I like to listen to more than once, and their eponymous first album is loaded with great songs, which they delivered in fine style at the El Rey. Definitely catch this band before the singer blows out his voice entirely or they move on to much bigger venues.

Cage the Elephant has an awesome live presence. Definitely see them if you can. The two opening bands took an hour each, the second of which was mediocre at best; that's the only reason it's not a 5-star review.

Cage was amazing! They were high energy from the second they hit the stage. They played all of their radio songs and yet still managed to get in all the other good songs of their album as well. The killed it! Lead singer is hot and kept the crowd crazy! I recommend this show to anyone who enjoys good rock music. I'll see Cage in any town they play in that I'm in, that's for damn sure! This is a band you will be hearing a lot about in the coming years. Go see them and be able to say you saw them before they were selling out stadiums! Peace.

Cage The Elephant Cubby Bear October 30, 2009 People That Have Been Around Wrigleyville Know About The Parking Situation, That Is That You Have To Either Pay, Get Lucky, Or Walk About A Half-Mile Or More To Get To The Event. The Cubby Bear Venue Itself Was Not Really Made For Concerts. People Are Basically Right On Top Of One Another, The Stage Is Not Very Big, And At Times The Sound System Is Too Loud For The Place It Is In. Cage The Elephant Took The Stage Exploding With Energy. Their Energy Transferred Very Quickly To The Crowd, In Turn Pumping The Band Up Even More. Cage The Elephant Is Explosive And You Never Can Tell Exactly What They Are Going To Do. There Was Lots Of Crowd Surfing, Which Included Band Members, Moshing, And High Energy Jumping. This Was Definitely Not A Show For People That Are Claustrophobic. They Played Songs Off Their Most Recent Album Including "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked," "Back Against The Wall," "Tiny Little Robots," And Encored With "In One Ear." They Also Played Some New Songs. Overall It Was A Great Show. Cage The Elephant Needs Bigger Venues For Sure.

This show was wild. These guys brought so much power to their performance. You could tell everyone in the crowd could feel it. The lead singer is out of control. Their live performance was right on. I had a great time at this event. Every band that preformed brought their "A" game, the energy ran high through out the beautiful Santa Babara after noon. The night would have ended on a better note had Lykke Li actually showed up. I was extremely heart broken when I found out, from one of the event staff, that she would not be preforming. Lykke Li was the sole reason I even considered buying the Summer Round Up tickets in the first place. Guess I will have to save up yet again to be able to catch one of her performances. All in all I had a great time and would consider going to this event next year.

The opening band was a little too intense for my personal taste, but they performed well. This was my first time hearing Manchester Orchestra and they were pretty good. Very mellow. Cage the Elephant (the band we intended to see) was fantastic. It was my first concert ever and my boyfriend, whose been to many, said it was the best concert he's seen in 5 years. (: It was awesome. And the price was even more awesome!

An amazing show. My friend and I managed to work our way up to a really nice spot even though we got there a bit late. O Brother started the show off. I had never heard of them before and they had some decent songs but I felt like they just used some riffs way too many times and it made their songs a little too repetitive. They didn't get much of a reaction from the crowd. Manchester Orchestra was up next. I had heard of them before but only listened to a few songs. They played very well and they clearly had a lot of fans there as many people were singing along. The crowd really liked them. Cage the Elephant came on a while after Manchester finished up. I went there to see Cage and I was really excited when they came on. They started with In One Ear which got the crowd going right away. They played several of their lesser known songs switching it up between their 1st and 2nd albums. Then they played Back Against the Wall. They played exceptionally well and every Cage fan loves that song, so this is when the crowd really started going nuts. Ain't No Rest For The Wicked was next and everyone sang along. I was losing my voice by the end of it. They finished up the set and played one encore with a few members of Manchester Orchestra. During one of the songs, Matt jumped off stage to crowd-surf. He stood up on top of everyone's hands for a while, then jumped off and finished the song. It was awesome. Some kid also managed to get up on stage at one point. A security guard tackled him off and tried to kick him out but then Matt told him to let the kid go. It was really cool of him. The whole band, especially Matt, had a lot of energy throughout the entire show and played very well. The crowd loved the show and got involved. Afterward, Matt hung out with a bunch of fans. My friend and I took a couple of pictures with him and got our tickets autographed. He's a really cool guy, nice to the fans and laid-back. The entire show was great and I would defiantly recommend that you go see them if you get the chance.

These guys have great energy, and you can tell they're having a fun entertaining the crowd. Unfortunately, there were some technical difficulties during the encore, so it seemed the show got cut *only a little* short. Cage the Elephant has been on my list of bands to see live...I've read so many reviews about how interactive the band is with the audience and they were right! Matt jumped in with the crowd more than once! I like to describe the performance as raw since CTE put everything into this performance and was doing what they love for themselves and the audience. Matt stayed in the pit after the show to sign EVERYBODY's ticket/shoe/arm. I'm not one to write reviews, but this performance was too good not to be shared!

im effing CRAZY about CTE! i saw them last year with silversun pickups and manchester orchestra and after opening, i was truly sad to see them leave and told someone i went with that they need to headline their own tour. well, the rock gods answered my prayers! i didnt care much for AS TALL AS LIONS, one of CTE's openers. their set seemed to go on forever; personally, i was bored. MORNING TELEPORTATION wasnt bad. from the moment CAGE THE ELEPHANT stepped on-stage, it was nonstop energy for the 10-12 song set! im a pit person, so there was no shortage of excitement! with matt and brad crowd surfing, playing in the crowd, and the sheer awesomeness of their music alone, it's impossible to not be comsumed in the moment! the set included 'free love', 'in one ear', 'aint no rest for the wicked', 'back stabbin' betty', 'tiny little robots', 'back against the wall', 'lotus', and a few songs from their upcoming record. it took me nearly 12 hours to get over the fact the show was over, it was so awesome! the 5 stars i gave CAGE THE ELEPHANT does not include the openers :) the shultz brothers signed autographs after the show, which was a dream come true! if you enjoy quality music and musicians and want something to remember, something that hasnt been stuffed into a box and processed through a machine, CAGE THE ELEPHANT is for you. i swear my allegiance to them.

It was kind of annoying how little organization the concert hall had at the beginning, as nobody would tell us where to go and once a man did show up, he couldn't make up his mind where he wanted us to wait. Once we got in, though, it was an incredible show. Morning Teleportation opened, and I'd never heard of them but I'll definitely be listening for them from now on. They had a good sound and really enjoyed themselves. Following them was As Tall As Lions, who had a completely different sound but were just as impressive. The lead singer had an amazing voice, it sounded better than it did on iTunes. The crowd was getting crazier as the night wore on, and by the time Cage The Elephant took the stage it had reached a fever pitch. Luckily, Cage killed it. They were full of energy and really interactive with the crowd. Matt Shultz went crowd surfing 3 or 4 times, he even came back up with someone's hat! They let us all fill the stage for a song, and they were dancing and hugging everybody. Also the stage manager did a great job of ushering the more "adventurous" fans off the stage without killing the mood. One of the best shows I've been to.

Cage the Elephant never ceases to amaze me. This was the second time I have seen them live, and it was great. The band has such an energy to them that radiates into the crowd. The lead singer, Matt, is out of his mind, but so passionate whilst he's singing. You can tell how genuine this band is, raw emotion, great talent. I'm surprised they are not more popular, though at this point I'm glad they aren't, quite yet. Bowery Ballroom was the perfect intimate venue to experience Cage the Elephant. Their live show is unlike any other I've experienced, so good! Morning Teleportation, the first opener, was awesome. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed their set. They will get bigger. The second opener, As Tall As Lions, was unimpressive, bland.

The warm-up band might have been okay, but their equipment was so bad that it sounded like white noise, and was basically a waste of half an hour. That said, it made Portugal the Man and Cage the Elephant sound even better, and I mostly forgot the experience. The sound quality of Portugal the Man was pretty good, and Cage the Elephant's equipment was excellent. The lighting was fantastic as well! Bear Hands and Foles both put on really great shows, and Silversun Pickups was a pleasant surprise, but Cage the Elephant blew an already incredible show out of the water. Cage played an incredible mix of their newer albums Tell Me I'm Pretty and Melophobia, but didn't forget to play the hits off of their first two albums either. Matt Shultz stage presence was incredible, and you could tell he and his band put everything they had into their show. They blew me away, and I can't wait to see them again in May in OKC. 10 out of 10 would recommend Cage the Elephant.

First rock concert; chill and great new experience. Easy on the ears. Not too crazy. Age appropriate.

All of the bands were amazing!! They were so involved with the audience and it really hyped everyone up!! I was in general admission and it was so fun to be that close to bands! Everyone pretty much stayed on stage except Cage the Elephant and Foals. There was lots of crowd surfing and just general fun interaction. What made the show even better was the people that were in general admission as well!! They were so fun and in between sets everyone was chatting and having a great time! Overall, best show I've been to in a while! (I have to say though that if Silversun Pickups comes back they should do a show where they are headlining, I loved their set and wish it didn't end!)

My husband and I were out in Vegas and had planned to see this show. We sprung for the extras, and rented a daybed at The Cosmopolitan, and so glad we did. The view was incredible, and I didn't know what to expect from the acoustics, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. I love all these bands, but Joywave, Big Data and Cage were obviously stand-outs. I liked New Politics before we saw them live but they put on such an amazing stage show, so much amazing energy. Same with Matt from Cage. Truly an amazing, one-of-a-kind experience that I know will never be topped.

Loud! Crazy! Fun!. Combine the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols and a bit of the Strokes and you have CTE. I haven't seen a crowd surfing singer since the 80's. The band sounded great in-spite of the so so acoustics in the OLD Tower theater. Nice classics venue, greatly in need of some TLC.

First time ever seeing Cage the Elephant, finally, and I was so excited. It was a large, very large room, where the event was, which was weird to me. I had never attended a concert like that before but I really enjoyed it. The first two opening bands were okay, nothing great. I was glad I arrived a little late, because I didn't really like their music. When Cage The Elephant came out though, that was the best part. Brad Schultz, the drummer said forget the seats, if there is empty space, move up, which mostly everyone did. But it was calm despite that, oddly enough. No pushing or shoving, and everyone just enjoyed the show. Cage The Elephant definitely know how to work the crowd, Matt Schultz was so energetic it spread, and their music was freaking fantastic. They're so amazing live. Thanks San Manuel for hosting them!

First off- the STARLAND BALLROOM is an amazing venue. For a 2000+ club the show can still be somewhat intimate because of the club layout! There are three large bars located to the back in all three directions- these three areas absorb a lot of the clientele which allows the experience in front of the stage to feel more like a 1,200 cap club. I get the STAR parking when purchasing tickets- it's a few dollars more but it allows me to park within 100 feet of the club and get early entrance which is huge in my world. This was a sold out show and getting beverages was no issue. The sound system is excellent and the security is clearly present without being intrusive. FIRST RATE OPERATION! I've experienced a lot of live music venues but none better than the STARLAND BALLROOM! I was there to see BEAR HANDS the opener but I like CAGE THE ELEPHANT so I intended to stay for them as well. I usually don't encounter many surprises when I go to shows because I fully research the bands and know what to expect. But what I experienced this night was truly impressive. The energy level was off the charts. There I was about 6 from the stage and BEAR HANDS had just started their set when intense pushing started from the back- I turned and a circle pit had formed- whaaaaat! a mosh pit for BEAR HANDS. Am I in the twilight zone I wondered. From that point on even after BEAR had finished the physicality would continue in the front while the stage was being reset for CAGE THE ELEPHANT. I worked my way to the bar in the back and did a couple of shots and beers in preperation for the headliners- obviously this was gonna be intense! Sure enough the lights went down and the energy level went through the roof! I started my journey back to the front. When a show is this physical it's not that difficult to move forward because the crowd will actually push you there. It was so intense at the front that taking pictures was ill advised- better to focus on the battle- staying on my feet and dealing with the crowd surfers coming into the stage. IT WAS GREAT FUN AND CAGE THE ELEPHANT ARE AMAZING PERFORMERS! It was one of the top 20 shows of my life and I highly encourage you to see CAGE THE ELEPHANT LIVE!

If you haven't seen them live, go.... such high energy, the new guitar player was amazing...I didn't want to see the show end! was lucky enough to have met the band and I think the fact that they are all such cool guys really made he concert that much better. bottom line = cage the elephant is a must see show.

This was a great show! I got the tickets originally for Cage the Elephant. I'd heard them on the radio and enjoyed their music. They were a birthday present from my mom. I learned that Foals would too be performing. I'd never heard of them so I began listening to their music. Next thing I knew I was a much bigger fan of them than of Cage the Elephant. The show was phenomenal. The opener, Rodney and the Business, was pretty great. I don't listen to that type of music often, but the guys, especially Rodney, were sincere, thoroughly invested in entertaining, and had a love for RVA. <3 The hair was also something to be appreciated. Good music definitely. I would see them again. Foals were great live because I love their music. Not as good as I was expecting though. It was nothing they could help. I just think they're music is better suited for my earbuds or my car. Clarity of sound is something I really like about them, but that was lost a tad. Just simply because of playing live. In a venue. I would still recommend with allllllll my might seeing them. They're great! They put on a great show. They were really into it and did talk to the audience. They involved us. And lead singer, once again, GREAT HAIR. CAGE THE ELEPHANT. blew through my expectations. Way better than I was expecting. SERIOUSLY. The singer was totally high, but cute nonetheless in his 70s-esque attire. His dance moves, also from the 70s, were enjoyable. His vocals were great despite being pretty out there. Just like the album. Better. Only complaint I have is the lack of communication with the audience. There was a general lack of speech, just song after song. We didn't even get a "Hey RVA" or "this is our last song." They just walked off at the end. Nothing. No thank you. nada. I didn't stay to see if there'd be an encore because typically there isn't. ( for at least most shows I've been to) and my back was dying cause I'd be standing there for 6 hours and 3 hours earlier ushering for an event. Maybe I'm just out of shape. IDK and My friend has actual back issues. The music and entertaining was great tho. SO great. I can't even explain. Go see them if you're remotely interested in their music :) Mosh pitting tho, I don't enjoy. Watch out for the major fans. They go hard :)

The opening act, and I hope I never know their name, was very loud. That's the best part of their music. All the songs just blended and they could have the same name for any of them. Too much aahh aaahh aahhh backing vocals on every song. The cheering seemed to come from 12-year-olds that were attending their first concert. The Foals completely turned the music feel around and played a great set. The only thing I would say about them that was a disappointment was their light show. The flashing, blinking, bright lights were so overwhelming at times that you could not see the musicians on stage. I enjoy watching a good musician enjoying what they do. I don't attend a concert to close my eyes and just listen, but I found that necessary with the lights. Cage the Elephant came out with a ton of energy and it never slowed down. The all-ages crowd could have been more into the set, but the band could have been more welcoming with the need of many fans to want to help them sing the songs. The mics seemed to have been turned down before the encore which made it a challenge to hear the words being sung. This is a band that is worth seeing live.

First of all, Silversun Pickups surprised everyone because they were introduced as Bananarama. They were great and rocked their set. It was a nice surprise when the crowd realized it was Silversun Pickups! Cage was great when they opened for Foo Fighters but tonight they were amazing. They had great energy and gave it their all. You can tell they love performing and being in the small venues. Matt continuously jumped into the crowd, walked on the crowd and continued to sing while doing it! He even let one girl come on stage for the last song.

Very mixed feelings. Looks like the music machine grabbed their hooks into Cage. Lip syncing ought to be banned from all live music. Seems like a new trend in concerts to mix live with not live so it sounds like the record. They have good music but the fakery part used to try and get people jumping left a bad taste in my mouth. I saw them open for the Black Keys at the same venue some years back and it was all live and a much better show.

There is not a lot to say...Cage is always great. The lead singer always performs with a TON of energy, and if you are a fan, it is amazing the number of good songs that they have. They perform for over an hour, really lost track of time, probably around 90 minutes, and it is just one song into the next. If you like Cage's music, then you will love their concert.

Third time seeing them, so had a high standard. Cage has honed in on their craft and while their sound is definitely not as choppy as their humble beginnings, they meet two things. They meet the law of concerts - more than six great songs; AND, you have to be a complete idiot not to see the showmanship of energy and excitement of the lead singer for Cage.

Cage the Elephant is probably one of my top 5 bands, so I went to the concert expecting a good show, but even at that I was surprised. It turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. They were super high energy, giving all they had to the audience. They connected with the audience, frequently coming out at the end of the stage and reaching out, as well as getting audience participation in some songs. And the stage show, lighting and smoke, was great, not over kill or gratuitous.

Show starts with the opener, Twin Peaks. Even this band, that I hadn't heard of before, was so rad. Then Portugal. The Man came out and totally killed it as did Cage the Elephant. Because this wasn't a tour for any specific album both bands played different songs from different albums and it was so amazing. I had GA tickets so I was on the floor and I was able to get about 5 feet from the stage and the sound and lights were stellar. Both bands performed their hearts out and it was for sure a show I'll never forget. So worth the time and money.

Great lineup, performances were solid. Matthew is one of the most energetic vocalist I've seen perform. First time I saw a concert at the Gila River Arena. The sound would probably be my biggest complaint. It was by no means terrible but I've come to expect sound that usually isn't as good as a more intimate theater from arena shows. Cage the Elephant put on an impressive 20 song set only briefly exiting the stage for 5 minutes or so before returning for the encore. Definitely made up for that 50 minute headlining set they were given at Mesa Amphitheater in December 2014.

Cage the Elephant was amazing. So much energy and incredible musicianship. My daughter and her friend were on the floor very close to the stage and had a blast.
