Helen Reddy

More then ten years after retiring from performing, Helen Reddy returned to the stage and gave a fantastic performance at B. B. Kings Saturday night, March 23. To say she was amazing would be an understatement. This 71 year old wonder appears to have not lost even a bit of her voice. The range and power were all there and her ability to deliver a song puts singers half her age to shame. I hope Helen decides to return again to the NYC area for more shows.

We had great seats in an old movie that was used as a concert venue. She sounded great and was funny and she had some moving moments also. She had a four piece band that sounded great too.

Helen Reddy at age 71 and her four musical accompaniments started right on time and did an OUTSTANDING NONSTOP PERFORMANCE of about 18 songs!!! Helen's voice is still very strong, clear, and smooth! The awesome four member band, especially Mary on the keyboard, should play a couple of instrumentals for pure enjoyment and give Helen a rest. That would be a nice, welcome change. Show money very well spent!!!

I loved the venue, we were in the second row. Her voice was as good as it was fortyfive years ago. She was also funny and gracious. A must see for boomers. I hope she plays there again as we will definitely be there. Also the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Once a performer, always a performer. Her voice was excellent and she had the audience eating out of her hand. Venue was great as well.

The Uptown is one of our favorite places and this did not disappoint. The show was very good. Helen Reddy has been away for 10 years and it is good to have her back.

Helen Reddy wrote some of the most important music of the woman's movement, anthems really. I Am Woman gave me so many more the strength and courage to get through some difficult times in our lives. She has been on hiatus for ten years, but she took the stage as if she left it yesterday. Helen's voice was exactly as I remember it...strong and true...and sometimes poignant. Her energy seemed boundless, dancing and joking between songs. She sang many of her hits, plus other songs that she (and we) enjoys. The audience was overwhelmingly appreciative and loving in response to all she did. My hope is that she continues to perform, because we will never stop enjoying her. "Keep On Singing" Helen!

I was a big fan of Helen Reddy in the late 60's and 70's. I grew up in a small town and she was my Women's Rights hero. That was a long long time ago, so I really didn't have too high of expectations, after all she has to be in her 70's now, and we haven't really heard or seen her in years. Man was I surprised!! Her voice is stronger then ever, she sang new material and a few of her old hits. It was one of the best concerts I have seen. I live in the San Francisco area and we have lots and lots of concerts. I dragged my husband who is as far from being a fan as possible. He is a hard rock fan and I don't think he had even heard one of her songs. Guess what?? he liked it! IF you get a chance to see this show it is really a great great show.

First, the good news: Helen Reddy's voice sounds just like it did 40 years ago and she sings beautifully with crystal clear enunciation and personality. However, she is a bit self righteous in her song selection and admittedly does not like singing her hit songs...actually scoffing at the lyrics to some and stating defiantly to the audience that she's tired of singing them and she's going to sing what she wants. So if you are expecting a greatest hits playlist do not go...you will be sorely disappointed. additionally please be warned if you buy and pay extra for the meet and greet tickets you'll be told that Miss Reddy does not like to sign autographs. Nor is she the most grateful or gracious of performers if you do actually meet her. I would suggest that Miss Reddy be more appreciative of her audience and sing the hits expected of her, along with her songs of choice, if she wants to have people come and see her again.

I saw her 30+ years ago for the first time and thought she was spectacular then. However, that absolutely pales in comparison to the richness and quality of her voice now. She sounded better than any recording or concert I've ever seen/heard. Her energy, fire and ability to draw in an audience has not wavered either.

Helen Reddy's voice was great, she looked great, it was AWESOME to see her working again after a 10-year retirement...and let me just say that I am a devoted fan and have been for many years. However, she only did TWO of her hit songs in full....she did two in a medley which I think is unacceptable (Come on now....people wanted to hear ALL of "Delta Dawn") and didn't do songs like "Leave Me Alone" because as she said, "The record company made her sing songs that she hated." Well these are the songs that people like ME bought and made her famous and wanted to hear. Also...on her fan page on facebook after all of her perfomances on this tour there are pics from "meet and greets" that she did after all her shows. Well...at this event at BB King's....outside the dressing room area they said, "Miss Reddy will not be doing a meet and greet tonight". Well...that is also not acceptable. If you do it for ONE show and group of fans...you must do it for ALL - especially if you are posting it on facebook. so - although I still love her - I don't know if I will see her again if she keeps working unless we see "The Helen Reddy Show" with all her hits and a meet and greet!

You could close your eyes & the voice brought you back to the 70's. Still clear & flawless vocals, Helen Reddy is back & the fans couldn't be happier. I saw her earlier in the month as well & any nerves she had experienced on 3/1 were gone. She was talkative & so funny. Loved hearing Bluebird live!

I recently saw Helen Reddy perform live for the first time in my life. Across the years and through her performing absence she has lost nothing. Her talent, show"woman"ship, and singing voice is unchanged from what I had seen on television and YouTube videos. I strongly recommend her show. "Keep on Singing" Helen.

The last time I saw Helen Reddy was over 35 years ago. So, I was excited to see her make a rare NYC appearance at B. B. King's. As she walked onto the stage, I was amazed to see that she hadn't really changed all that much...well, maybe a little heavier (but, who isn't)...she pretty much looked the same...and, for a 71 years old woman, she looked terrific!!! As soon as she uttered her first musical note, I knew that everyone there was in for a treat. She sounded exactly as she did when I saw her over 35 years ago!!! AMAZING!!! What a great show!!! If you get a chance to see her perform, do yourself a favor and go! Reddy, Set...GO!

Even though she hasn't performed in 10 years, Helen Reddy sounded as if she had never left the stage. She was in fine voice. My only complaint about the show was her reluctance to sing her hits. The main portion of the show were album cuts and new material. She only sang 6 of her many hits. She obviously had her set list on a music stand and betrayed her distaste of doing her more popular songs by commenting "oh, we're going to this one" after checking the list. It is fine that she does the songs that she likes but she should remember that the audience comes to hear both new material as well as her hits.

despite over 10 years in retirement Helen Reddy can still sing with her prior magic tone. unfortunately her medical condition gets her breathless after each song, but the show was uplifting, especially her reciting/speaking the poem "I am woman"

Helen Reddy was great!! She is a great preformer!! BBK s however needs to lighten the place up while we are ordering food. No one could read the menu without flashlights. It was also very cold where we where sitting we sat with our coats on. Also the table are to small, we had 6 people with us and the table really should have been for 4!!! No elbow room at all. The asile are very small, the table next to us had drinks spilled on the, THey offered them free drinks,, Really how about a free meal.

My favorite singer of all time was terrific, as I knew she would be. B B King's was great too.

Still a songbird! Helen Reddy's voice was crystal clear as she sang the less know songs from her many recordings. When she broke into her number one hits the crowd went crazy into a standing dancing ovations. Fabulous performance!

She sounded great!! The audience was really engaging and it was a wonderful evening.

The show was amazing! At 71, Helen still shines bright! She was beautiful, witty and warmly engaging! Her voice strong as ever and it was fantastic to hear her sing other songs I wasn't as familiar with but now love! :)

Nothing short of breath-taking! I must admit I was a little hesitant at first. Given it has been 10 years since Helen (yes, us die-hard fans call her by her first name) last performed, I wasn't sure what to expect. As 8pm was coming near and crowd began to roar, an epic evening was about to unfold. For once Helen took to the stage and sang the very first song, I knew it would be a night to remember. The time went by so fast, as the next thing I knew she was already on her final song. Definitely a night to remember....WE LOVE YOU HELEN!

I must say the tables at BB King were a little cramped, but Helen Reddy MORE THAN MADE UP FOR IT. Every song she selected was terrific. And for 71, she was a game girl. If she is coming to you area, and you know even a few of her songs, you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I had a great time. Helen's voice is as smooth as ever. The Canyon Club was a little too hot, but we had a nice time regardless.

Helen's voice is even better than it was before her hiatus. She has such a clear tone that weaves its way through melodies and lyrics like luscious silk. The audience loved her--two standing ovations---totally sold out house.

This was an amazing come back. I loved every bit of it. I was particularly pleased with the songs she chose, ones she personally loves. What a delight and a nice surprise. What a great talent
