Patti Austin

Grammy-winning R&B, jazz, and big band icon Patti Austin has a Grade A pedigree to match her impressive voice — boasting Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington as godparents, the singer made her debut at the Apollo Theater at just age four. In 2014, Austin revives the legendary collaboration between Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington, playing Ella opposite the Duke Ellington Orchestra in a series of highly anticipated US tour dates. Renowned for her energy, improvisatory skills, and on-stage warmth, Austin stays faithful to her material while adding a tasteful modern twist that keeps fans coming back for more.FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY.

The entire show was excellent. Gerald Albright, Jonathan Butler, and Patti Austin were at their best. Each performer was given ample time to shine....and shine they did!

I've seen Miss Austin perform on several occasions, and she never disappoints. Her show is as fresh as her comedy. That's right, her comedy. If you think you're coming to just hear her sing you're in for a surprise. She is an entertainer, so you get it all. She's simply the best and she's on top of her game.

This event was marketed as ONE concert. It was really TWO seperate and distinct concerts with a long, clumsy set change in between. I wish I had known that Patti Austin would not be singing until 75 minutes after the Orchestra started. The details should have been spelled out better informing the guest that this was two concerts not Patti Austin singing along with the orchestra.

The show was very good, but I was under the impression that Patti Austin would be singing the entire show. Some other people sitting around me thought the same thing the way the ad read. Not enought of Patti's magnificent voice.

Patti Austin has one of my favorite all-time singing voices. And she sounded really great at this performance. However, the show, billed as "Patti Austin with the Duke Ellington Orchestra" was hardly that at all. It was more like an hour with the orchestra, and then an hour with Patti Austin. After the orchestra finished their hour set, I heard many people commenting how they were under the impression that Patti would be singing WITH the orchestra (which she did after the intermission). Misleading, to say the least. With that said, the orchestra was wonderful, as was Patti.

Though we loved the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Patti Austin was a disappointment. I bought tickets immediately when I learned of her upcoming performance at Tilles. She has always been a favorite performer ofmine, her style always amazing. But at this performance, she focused on Ella Fitzgerald's story, telling it, making witty jokes, and not singing. Maybe she sang 5 songs the entire time she was on stage. All of them were Ella's music and none of it was the music that I grew to love and adore that were HER songs.. Yes, when she did sing, she was brilliant. Ella was a talent for all time. But each time she finished one of the songs, she began talking again. This wasn't a show that I would recommend.

what a joy to hear real, live professional musicians playing real live COMPOSED music. i will definitely seek out the D.E. orchestra whenever they appear in new york. the MC was full of anecdotes about the Duke. Patti Austin looked and sounded amazing and really put a wonderful personal spin on Ella's "sound" - only regret is there wasn't more time and songs!

Miss Patti Austin is an America treasure! She swooned us with her renditions of the American song book and sang her heart out. What a voice - as smooth as honey, supple yet strikingly assertive. Oh and what a story teller, jokster and bawdy gall she can be. She's a lady at the top of her game. She striked up the Duke Ellington Band and let it swing!!!

Patti started the concert strong with an old tune Stomp. Here voice is crystal clear. Really got the audience going. However, She did not sing any of her R&B hits, (Getting away with murder album). She sang Baby Come to Me. However instead of having a back up singer sing James Ingram Part, she sang it herself. She also had a choir join her for few gospel songs, however, they could not be heard for the loudness of the band. Patti, your voice is amazing. However, next time, maybe your list of songs should be tailored to the audience.

It was refreshing to hear someone sing without so much reliance on tech machines and backup singers doing the work. Ms Austin was not Diva-late and kept the audience engaged. Unfortunately, Ms. Austin's potty mouth was inappropriate, especially due to the fact a large number of families were there with their children. Perhaps she should have saved that for the 10:00 show...also, she didn't sing any of the songs that made her famous. I can understand she wants everyone to hear the new stuff, but that was a big disappointment. Overall, though, it was a great night out.

the voice of Patti Austin was beautiful .. Its a treat just to hear her sing... but her show, in my opinon was flat. Her stories, bored me and were annoying like the yacht story and her views on immigration... I'm curious.why was she singing James Ingraham's part to songs... she had a male backup singer. I know she's the star. but I believe I would have enjoyed those fabulous songs much more. I love you Patti Austin ,please fix your act. I'll see you next time...

Patti blended a variety of her music and added a lot of detail to each song. It was nice to hear what she had to say and have a connection of humor intertwined with same. The songs were fantastic but done so by her still well tuned melodic voice! Patti is truly an entertainer with heart and soul that embraces that words and notes she sings!

The club attempted to impose a $10 (or according to the waiter $15) minimum spend per person without prior notification or acceptance. After considerable arguement during the concert, the management appeared to accept we had not contract with them to make purchases of food and beverage. Ms Austin has a good voice and tight backing group but her choise of material, especially for the Blue Note Jazz Festival was very disappointing. She murdered a Sinatra classic and we heard not one of her wondeful Ella tributes.

This is only the second time I've seen Patti Austin live. The first time was at Westbury Music Fair as the opening act for Al Jarreau. She stole the show. She can sing pop, jazz, blues, ballards. She has an incredible connection with her audiences. Her conversations are engaging yet short. Patti is definitely a candidate for a one woman Broadway show!

My husband and I had the pleasure of attending the Berks Jazz Fest last Friday night starring Patti Austin, Gerald Albright and Jonathan Butler. The show was awesome, but to be honest Gerald and Jonathan stole the show. Patti left me short a little because I was looking forward to her singing some of her early classics - "we're In love", "that's enough for me", I just want to know". She sounds great, just didn't sing enough of her songs for my taste. We plan to make Berks an annual event. PS The Theater's sound is Superb !!!!

SpyraGyra was awesome. Unfortunately Patti felt it was necessary to bash Trump with filthy language in between EVERY song. It was fine if she wanted to make a statement at the beginning to get it off her chest, but she felt she needed to trash him and be vulgar about it after each song. I took my wife for our anniversary and Patti simply ruined the evening. We gave her time hoping she would let it go, but after 30 minutes of it, we left. Thanks Patti for your selfish tirade and ruining our date night!

I thought the show could have been a little better for me if she had sang more of her old songs, plus for me the acoustics weren't very good for me I couldn't hear her clearly which made it not what I was used to for someone as talented as she is. Spyro Gyro was awesome.

I always enjoy the classic vocals of Patti Austin. Her voice is amazing! She is very diverse in sound and knows how to captivate an audience. The only two disappointments that took away from the show was her continuous reference regarding her disdain for our new president and the also the fact that she dressed 'down' for the show. I was expecting a little more glamor n' glitz; especially since she is from the older generation and has been in the entertainment business for quite a while. Also, I was SO trying to get away from all the negative politics and have a wonderful evening where I could forget about what's happening in the world for a moment. All in all the show was great...I still love her and think she is a wonderful artist.

From the moment Patti Austin stepped to the mic in her white outfit and her pure jewel of a voice effortlessly rang out over the audience, I knew I was in for something special. She and the three other singers -- Judith Hill, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Ledise -- all showed superior skill and showmanship. Even though they had varying styles, there was one binding element -- each one of them could really sing.

The talent on display at the Bowl Wednesday night was fantastic. They are all great singers with wonderful stage presence. But, in an evening which was a tribute to Natalie Cole (in the first act) and then Lena Horne, Dinah Washington and Eartha Kitt in the second act, it fell way short. If you're going to honor four great artists, then please, someone, anyone, talk about THEM. They did a little bit of talk about Natalie, but not nearly enough. And no one said virtually anything about the other three women in the 2nd act...all pioneers in their own ways during their time in the spotlight, particularly Lena Horne. I know their work so I recognized songs that were associated with them but there was nary a mention about the songs, the context in which they were first sung, the ladies themselves...nothing. And, then, the last 20-30 or so, had the show devolve into a couple of the ladies singing their own material and then they closed with Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" which I don't know what the hell has to do with any of the four women honored that night. Don't get me wrong -- all of the material presented, even that which got off topic -- was excellent. They're all great, strong, talented women. And I don't regret going. But, this was an opportunity to tell the Bowl audience a bit about these ladies and weave some stories into the proceedings and they did none of that. And that was a shame.

Patti Austin is simply the best at what she does. To label her a singer would shortchange her and her performance. Not only is her voice flawless, her storytelling skills are impeccable. She's smart, sassy, and witty. I could listen to her sing and tell stories about her career and show business all evening. I especially love her interaction with the audience. Patti Ausitn, best known for her 1982 #1 hit "Baby, Come to me" with James Ingram, put on a thoroughtly enjoyable concert. Dynamic singer entertained us with some of her own familiar songs with cover songs, such as "Give me the Night" and "Smoke gets in your eyes." Witty banter between songs was also very fun, informative and enjoyable, and one point, during her song 'Through the test of time" she got the audience to participate in song, which made it a special experience.
