Buffalo Tom have been an ongoing inspiration to songwriters for years - how to take deceptively straightforward chord progressions and play them with texture, feeling, and emotion; how to write honest and moving songs; how to come up with an endless supply of great hooks and melodies! To finally see them live was an honour, and they did not disappoint, cranking out tons of my favourites and also exploring some newer class A material I was not as familiar with. The audience enjoyed themselves, singing along and calling out requests. There were two support acts - the incredible and mesmerizing Mean Creek who I must see again and plan to when they play Brooklyn this month (that guitarist with her white tele, reverb and delay, layering beautiful lines on top of the tight ballads and breaks - thrilled to be introduced to these guys), and the absolutely terrible Madison Square Gardeners - the worst blend of 70s rock rip offs you could ever encounter: bad composites of Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, truly worthless. They should disband. How did they get this gig?

I have been listening to Buffalo Tom since the early '90s and was THRILLED to finally see them last Thursday at the Mercury Lounge. The band was personable, funny, and they put on a great show. There was a nice mix of older and newer stuff, and it was great to hear that the heart of the band's sound has remained true after all this time. I was a little bit disappointed with the sound quality in the venue - Mercury Lounge is really small and the guitars were turned up really loud at the expense of drums, harmonica, and vocals. I am definitely a loud music sort of person, but I think the volume took away from the experience.

I saw BT with my 22 and 20 year old daughters and their 18 year old friend, we were celebrating my 49th b-day. I have been a fan for years and introduced the girls to BTs music over the years and they are now fans. I was blown away, the show was unbelievably good. The music and the energy of the band and the audience made for a very fun night. The band played all my favorites as well as some new music that I am now anxiously awaiting the release of. I highly recommend seeing BT, they are one of my favorite bands and they put on a killer show.

I saw the 2nd show of 2 that night and I know that many people in the crowd had been at the first as well. These guys have been one of my favorite bands for over 15 years now and I will never tire of seeing them! Great show! They played old songs and a few new ones. Super fun time!

Buffalo Tom came out and rocked through their great inventory of songs. Touched on nearly all their albums and mixed in new stuff nicely. Went to the 8PM show and it was so good that I grabbed tickets to the 11 PM show. Lots of new songs in the 2nd one. Had they offered a 3rd show, would have hit that one too!

I was at the early show. Really good show, loose and funny; the guys shook off some PA/equipment problems with typical good humor and self-deprecation. I have to comment on the crowd; many poseurs and "too cool for school" types, I wonder why people go to shows if they can't let anybody see them enjoy themselves ... or appear to like the band! Mercury has a nice mellow vibe, from the laid-back door crew to the "seen it all" bartender; I had a few beers and laffed at all the snooty types with him. Nice mix of new and older tunes, led off with "Treehouse". Good night out

Great energy, considering these 40-somethings were playing their 3rd show in just about 24 hours. I think, though, it ended up costing the audience since they only played about 85 minutes. Enjoyed hearing new songs, but if I had known the show was going to be less than an hour and a half, I would have preferred to have heard some more of their known material. All in all, I still love this band and can't figure out how they never blew up into Big TIme status.

This is the third time I've seen Buffalo Tom live, and it was the best show yet. I've been lucky to see them in intimate venues (TLA in Philly, Joe's Pub and Mercury Lounge in NYC), where the band has a very laid back, connected-with-the-audience vibe. All three guys brought their A-game to this show - old tunes sounded great, and new tunes sounded like they've been around for years. Highlights included "Birdbrain", "Larry", and "Taillights Fade" - and a surprise cover of New Order's "Age of Consent". Can't wait to hear the new album!

Buffalo Tom--with backing graphics, vocalist guests, and the legendary J. Mascis playing for several songs, including a haunting cover of Mazzy Star's "Fade into You"--brought their A-game to the show. They seemed extra-energized by new songs from their latest album "Quiet and Peace." Packed house, totally into it.

Buffalo Tom doesn't tour much these days, hardly at all, just playing a show or two every year or two. This is unfortunate as the stars have to align in order for me to see them. This year I was lucky and could get away for a night and travel 2 hours to Boston to see one of my favorite bands. We saw the Saturday show where they played "Let Me Come Over" front to back in its entirety, plus some additional songs afterwards. Bill, Tom, and Chris were in top form and we saw an incredible show.

These guys don't play nearly often enough, but when they do it's a real treat. It helps that this show was at one of my favorite venues, the magnificent Paradise Rock Club on Commonwealth Ave. The room is perfectly shaped and sounds spectacular, drips with rock history, and is filled with memories for anyone who's been seeing shows in Boston long enough to know who Buffalo Tom is in the first place. This particular evening found B. Tom playing two sets, a long and obscurity-filled show ranging marvelously over their entire career. Catch them next time they play, and every time they play -- it's not something you can enjoy often, but it's something you'll enjoy immensely when you do!

Fine high energy show. The band did two sets. A solid 3 hours of material culled from the past as well as some new material. Good time was had by all. Only objection, turn down the AC - it was cold in there

Buffalo Tom's annual pilgrimage into Boston is always a great occasion. It's great to hear them recreate the same sound and songs that made them popular in the '90's.

Buffalo Tom's home-town show was two set affair. The first set was consisted on songs from their seminal Let Me Come Over, and a smattering from their other albums. The second set started as a a terrible acoustic affair, with Tom Maginnis (the drummer) attempting to strum some chords along with Bill Janovitz. The reason given was that it was his birthday, "and all he ever wanted to do was play guitar." Fine, but I wanted to see Buffalo Tom at the Paradise, not a dad's show for the children (who where duly brought up on stage). The show then descended into almost farce, with Bill messing up choruses; and then onto some pretty poor cover versions. It had become a sing-alonga-pub-band-karaoke show. A far cry from one of the best (the best?) alternative college radio bands ever. I've been watching Buffalo Tom live since the early 1990s. A Buffalo Tom show was always a main event of the week, month or summer. Their shows are a rare event nowadays and I was excited to see them in their home town. I travelled from the UK for this show, and walked out before the end. Chris asked if we had had a good day. I looked around - for sure, people had had a good day and this was just something to do at the end of it before heading off to a bar. The magic was gone. I'll be travelling to see them in the Netherlands later this year. Hopefully, away from their home crowd, in front on a better audience, they will deliver.

These three guys can rock! They have a very cool sound, energy and vibe. Cool rock shows like this are rare these days. I don't know how I missed this band in the 90's and will be buying some of their cd's soon.

Buffalo Tom rocked the Sinclair on Saturday night! My husband and I have seen them a few times before at different venues. When we heard they were performing, we thought it would make a perfect date night/Mother's Day Eve event! We had a great view from the balcony level and sang along to our favorites. There's no sound quite like Buffalo Tom. We love both Bill and Chris vocals. Thanks for a fun night! We also grabbed a drink and app beforehand at the Sinclair Kitchen bar and loved that too.

I've come to accept that Buffalo Tom will never get the national recognition they deserve. That said, literally everyone I know who's been exposed to them-- on record and especially live-- loves this group. Go see a show and you'll love it. Guaranteed. Brighton Music Hall was very nice, by the way. It was my first time here since the new ownership team took over.

One of the best nights of live music in a long time. Buffalo Tom never dissapoint. the guest list was amazing from mean creek( first time hearing them, shook us) ted leo completely buzzsawed through his set. sounded like three people up there. and of course the headliners.they are why i make an effort to go out and see as much live music as possible. seeing all of their guests come up and jam, bill janovitz directing the whole thing, and those guys never sounded better. theo epstein was a nice suprise. they ripped through the who's the seeker with mike o'malley on vocals. total music happiness. thanks buffalo tom.

This essential Boston rock band is still the real deal after a quarter century. They are tighter than ever, transcendent of trends and still write great songs, as evidenced by their recent, new album. They connect with their crowd, give it great energy and, quite frankly, deserve a bigger place in the panoply of 90s rock on a national level. Happy BDay Buff Tom, here's to raising a glass for your 50th someday.

This was one of three consecutive shows booked to commemorate Buffalo Tom's 25th anniversary. They proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they've not lost a bit of their energy and edginess that made them such a dynamic force in the alternate music scene that emerged in the late 80's and rose to prominence in the post grunge days of the early to mid 90s. They played the greatest of their greatest hits and surprised with a few wonderfully picked deep cuts. Though 25 years old, this band still performs with all the emotion and urgency of a young up and comer...
