Overall show very good. The first show, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, dragged a little in the middle. Both Harold Melvin and Jerry Butler still have their voices. They are getting old like all of us. Both music and performances were very professional.

Harold Melvin's Blue Notes were a surprising success!!! I didn't expect to enjoy them so much, but they brought back wonderful musical memories!!!! It was a thrill to see the legend in person....the Ice Man!!!

This is the first time that I saw Jerry Butler in concert, he was all that I ever expected and more. The songs he sang were just as good if not better than on record. All I wanted was more, I could have listened all night. I could tell that he didn't feel well, he is in our my prayers! Love and prayers always!

The show was outstanding and totally enjoyable from beginning to end......love The Jewels. They're local and whenever they're performing, the audience goes nuts - "Lil Margie is the highlight of the group and they were smashing in their white, frilly outfits - shakin' all they had. The Impressions brought the house down with "old school" tunes - us mature folk love to "go back" - remembering' the day......and then THE ICE MAN - Jerry Butler is so cool......just standin' there and singin' to me - well, I'm sure all the ladies felt like he was singin' to them individually. Beautiful night, beautiful show, beautiful audience. When The Ice Man reaches your area, DON'T MISS HIM!

I was taking my mother but she couldn't make it, so I took my sister and her husband and the look on there faces of seeing the Jewels and the Impressions, and then Mr. Butler whom came out with all of his coolness was the joy of my night. this was the first time seeing all of the groups for the first time and I was not disapointed. Mr. Butler sang and didn't miss a beet (I like saying that) didn't miss a beat, the ladies behind us kept saying sing it Jerry. People were dancing in the Isles you know DC loves to hand dance. His voice was as new to me as his records are old, the Impressions were just a delightful, and the Jewels were exciting and very intertaining.

I had such a great time at the show! I hadn't seen the Impressions since my days of going to the Howard Theatre. They brought back wonderful, fond memories of enjoying (the late) Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, I remember that the Impressions did not get their hair processed but they were still considered "kool." I danced myself silly on "We're A Winner!" It was great to see Jerry Butler again. He was MARVELOUS! His voice is still strong and reasonant. He sang all of my favorites and I thought that he apreciated me helping him to sing (Ha!) The Jewels remain fabulous and their voices are so strong with superb harmony. I'm still pumped up from the show. I loved, loved, loved it!

This show was fabulous. The Jewels are local and as always give us a great show. The Impressions minus Curstis Mayfield and welcome the new guy were just as good as they were 35 years ago. And of course, The Ice Man himself - Jerry Butler - it was hot as whatever - but Jerry was as cool as a "snowball. He was absolutely the best. I have nothing but good memories of this show. Thanks to them all. They made my evening. We had a great time.

The Jewels (Margie, Grace, and San) were awesome. Margie is still a powerhouse and tore up the stage as usual and the ladies still sound great. The Impressions (Sam, Fred, & Reginald) (OMG) were clean as a board of health! All male singers can learn how to dress from these brothers. They were impeccable from their head to the bronze tips of their shoes. They sounded just as good today as they did years ago. Reginald even sounded like Curtis on some of the songs. They sang all the hits and had us all singing along with them. I'm from Chattanooga, TN, so I love the fact they (Sam & Fred) reside there. What can anyone say about Jerry Butler (The Ice Man). Jerry is still so cool! He also performed a medley of hits and can still hit the high notes. It was so good to see his brother Billy playing with him. I wished Billy could have sang a song or two because he has a beautiful voice very similar to Jerry's. I also wished Jerry and the Impressions had performed a couple of songs together. For those of you who missed the show, YOU MISSED A DARN GOOD ONE!

The July 17th show at the Carter Barron with Jerry Butler, The Impressions and The Jewels was one of the best shows I've seen at the Carter Barron in years. The line up was one that the Oldies but Goodies audience has been waiting for. The show began with DC's hometown favorite female group, The Jewels. After 50 years, they are still a powerhouse group with tremendous vocal talent! The Jewels began singing off stage a medley of two of their hits "Loaded with Goodies" and "Erasers on Pencils". As the Jewels are fabulous dressers, they came out with in fringed pant suits and they shaked their hips until fringes said "ouch"! This from a female group that began in 1958! The Jewels are DC's DooWop Divas. The group that this audience was waiting for were The Impressions. It's been years since this group performed their many hits of the 60s and 70s, here in the DC area. They did not disappoint. With original members, Sam Gooden and Fred Cash, along with thier new lead singer, they sang many of their charted hits, penned by the late Curtis Mayfield, founder of the Impressions. From "It's Alright" to "Super Fly", the audience danced and sang along with The Impressions. The "Ice Man" Jerry Butler, lives up to his name. He is cool, handsome and a talented singer and performer. He began with DC's favorite dance hit "Cooling Out", and sang his hits, including "Western Union Man" and "Never Gonna Give You Up". But his most exciting moments were the love ballads, including a rousing rendition of "Ain't Understanding Mellow". The most disappointing moment was that Jerry Butler did not sing "For Your Precious Love" with the Impressions, for which the song was originally recorded by Jerry Butler and The Impressions, when they were a group. I was living for that moment that didn't happen.

This was an EXCELLENT concert! all three groups had very tight bands and there voices still sound great. The songs they sung take me back to my childhood when my parents would play these groups all the time. We go to a lot of concerts and my wife said this was hands down the best one she could ever remember...

This show was absolutely perfect! Each act handled their business so well. From Peaches and Herb who started the show to Jerry "Iceman" Butler who concluded the five act concert, each performance was well worth the price of admission. We arrived fifteen minutes late, and Peaches and Herb were performing their final song of the night, "Reunited" That tells you that the show started on time because other guests told us that they performed about 4 songs altogether. But they really jammed "Reunited". They looked and sounded great! Then came out the Intruders, who gave a solid performance. Next up were Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, who were the highlight of evening as far as I was concerned. The only disappointment was that they didn't sing "Miss You". Sharon Paige came out to perform "I hope that we can be together soon" with them, and it was awesome! The Impressions did a pretty goood job as well. But it was tough for them to come behind the Blue Notes. Then the "Iceman" close out the show in style. He simply walked on the stage and started singing with no fan fare or nothing. He sang hit after hit and made a few jokes along the way. But this brother is so smooth. When he finished his last song, he simply walked off the stage as unceremoniously as he walked on the stage. It was just oh so cool. But he did come back out and take a brief bow before walking off for good.

The show was fabulous. It was such a treat to take my mom and son. My mom was signing to the songs and really enjoyed all of the acts. I enjoyed the show because I had the opportunity to see the groups in person. I was extremly excited when the Intruders started singing my favorite song....."I'll always love my momma.". Great songs, acts, environment. Looking forward to the next concert. Thank you.

The Intruders, The Blue notes, and Peaches and Herb gave a good performance. The Impressions didn't sound so good. It was a mixture of the lead singer's mike being turned down too low and the music being too loud; and me missing Curtis Mayfield. As for Jerry Butler, he has gotten older as we all have, but he didn't sing long enough. If he is too weak to stand for a longer performance, he can sit down. I wouldn't care as long as I can hear him sing his old songs. Also his songs didn't sound very good because the arrangements used were too far away from the way his records sound.

Dinner Theater included Radisson Star Cafe excellent buffet, VIP Star Circle parking, and a magical musical event that took me way down some favorite times in my life--the 60's and 70's. While the Dells had dropped out early on, the remaining and added performances were more than enough to make this night "magical." Everything from the great vocals, choreography, musicians, timing, and stage outfits to the MC and ballroom light drew us to sing and want to dance. Nice touch using the house lights to incite audience participation. Excellent blend of vocals, musicians with good flow. I especially enjoyed the choice of songs that inspired all of us to rise to our best and love one another. Age only seems to make our favorite groups more mellow and even more admired how their lyrics, moves and attitudes are still relevant. The lead of Intruders is just too nasty sexy for this type of venue. Break out the Ben Gay! Those "old" guys were really moving. :)

Great show, it was my first concert, and I enjoyed it, the drinks were overpriced, but overall it was nice,.....what happened to the announcer coming back on stage at the end of the show to let us know it was over. The only way I knew it was over was because the people were getting up and leaving, I stl enjoyed myself!!!

I saw Jerry Butler at Blues Alley on February 11, 2012. I think this is like his 42nd year at Blues Alley for 3-5 days around Valentine day. The place is small, only seats 125 people, and was sold out. Jerry Butler (like all of us) is aging and I think is around 73. At times it was hard to look at him, because I felt for him because it is obvious that he is or has been sick, and may have Parkinson Disease because his hand was shaking during most of the performance. But amazingly he still has his tremendous voice, and once he started singing it was like going back to the old days. The backup singers were good, and he featured a young lady who performed My Funny Valentine solo. An exceptional talent. Jerry Butler voice cracked twice on "For Your Precious Love" which is my all time favoite song. But it was the last song of his performance, and he had been on stage for over an hour. But it was great seeing him up close and personal, and I definitely would go see him again when he's in the area. I pray for his health and hope he will be able to continue to perform. He is truly a legend.

I guess it was a treat for me to see history. I feel a little bad saying this, but the theater was only about 40%full, there were no attendants in the "VIP" parking area, so anyone could basically park there if you didn't get there on time. The Chi-lite were pretty good, but the sound system reverberated at least 5 times making the event seem a little cheesy. I would think a theater that size had a better sound system. Jerry is a legend and well -loved by all, me included. But the man is getting old! He nearly tripped over backwards over his cords and I was truly concerned for the guy. Poor Jerry was also shaking like a leaf, his microphone-hand quivering for the entire set. However, the man has been blessed with what we all know he has and still possess, am amazing voice. He sounded great, but I had to close my eyes if you know what I mean.

I loved Jerry Butlers performance. His voice seems almost ageless. I didn't like the piano players version of his songs. The piano player seemed to be playing at a jazzy tempo which did not compliment Mr Butler vocals. It's a Doo Wop Concert, keep it original. Everybody understands that music has to be sped up for time management but to totally play a song so off beat is ridiculous. I would 've rather there'd been no music then to hear this piano player totally mess up classic songs the way he did. Other than that, again I enjoyed it. Oh yeah, I would also recommend getting a live announcer. The recorded announement was not on queue and it made the show seem cheap. The same guy that came out from PBS, could have easily been the announcer with a little trailer of each song playing.

The four artists in Friday's Hitmakers of Beach & Soul concert were awesome! Each artist was special and fantastic on their own. They sang as great as the hits 30yrs ago. There's nothing better than going back to your youth and happier days! But nothing touched me more deeply than seeing the one and only "Iceman". It was obvious he did not look well health wise, but it humbles me to see him on stage to sing as great as ever for his fans from all these years! That's a wonderful human being!

I have always loved the sound of Jerry Butler, and to FINALLY see him in person has made a lasting memory for me! He was 'The Ice Man' personified. The show was wonderful. The Jewels opened the show with a lot of energy. These three women were great. It was my first time seeing them live. I know their music but seeing them live was fun. The Impressions followed with an excellent show. They took us back and reminded us about Curtis Mayfield. Their performance was excellent and I'd like to see them again.
