Steve Hackett

Legendary Genesis guitarist’s first ever Australian tour.Steve Hackett, as the powerhouse guitarist for inarguably one of the most important progressive rock bands ever, has been a guiding influence for musicians and guitarists for over 40 years.Genesis, only ever made it to Australia once, in 1986 – years after Steve and singer Peter Gabriel left the band, so Steve is making it up to fans by bringing some Genesis magic to our shores.Genesis classics “Dance On A Volcano” and “Eleventh Earl Of Mar” have never been performed here, and Steve’s incendiary guitar work on a magnum opus such as “Dancing Wi.

I have to tell you; I have not been to The Van Buren before, but I sure hope the acts I plan to see all come there! Beautiful venue, fantastic customer relations, top notch service, friendly people, and one hell of a great show!! Some folks told me they were disappointed in the 2nd set, the 'Genesis' set-list. I was not, as Hackett continues to change up the set-list with each tour. I've seen him on 3 of the last 4 tours, and he's covered almost every Gabriel-Era track during those cumulative shows. Yeah, although Nad is a decent enough vocalist, his stage presence (or complete lack thereof) leaves much to be desired. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, except Nad. Well, Steve must like him, and I'm paying to see Steve; although all the musicians are TOP NOTCH!!! So, for the fact that I'm aging, all my favorite bands are gone, but Hackett still tours and plays this stuff (and flawlessly, I might add), I can live with Nad. Personally, his solo albums are better than his Genesis interpretations. Anyway, GO SEE STEVE ANYTIME YOU CAN, and GO TO THE VAN BUREN AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!!! My new favorite venue!!! One unforgettable evening, to be sure!!!

A mix of his independent work and all the Genesis classics from when he was with the band 40 years ago, including a surprise "Inside and Out" from Spot the Pigeon". I don''t think it has been played live before this tour. Firth of Fifth and Suppers Ready brought down the house, just as they did 40 years ago. See this now while you still can! In seeing this show, you will soon realize that is was Hackett was the main musical influence in the early gems from Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound.

I had listened to an online interview with Hackett, and there was an ad on the page for the concert. This was a birthday present to myself. I was little hesitant because I knew nothing of Hackett's music after Genesis. The first hour was his non-Genesis set, which was OK but rather forgettable. The next two hours were all Genesis classics with one or two that never got on an album. It was frankly awesome. It would have been worth it for Firth of Fifth and Supper's Ready alone, but there was more. The band was good, the lights sometimes were in my eyes, and the Orpheum theater was a nice setting though it requires driving into downtown LA. Non-flash photos and videos were allowed, which I appreciate, though the few I took all suck, I'g goimng tp post three - the sign, waiting in the theater, and the band.

I've been listening to Steve Hackett since I was a teen in the seventies, both with Genesis and as a solo artist. There is no denying the soul of Genesis was gone when Steve left. Not to tarnish the success of Tony, Phil and Mike, but the SOUND that made Genesis to the "old" fan base was gone. To re-live the atmospheres Steve created (this is the first time I got to see him live) was truly a dream come true. Mr. Hackett has turned the guitar into multiple instruments; a harp, a synthesizer, a crying violin...all part of the magic that is Steve Hackett. You can tell he genuinely loves to perform and delight his fans. His fans are the real deal and he knows it. His solo work is just as unique and beautiful.

AMAZING....This show was spellbinding in the quality of the music and in the band''s performance. Steve Hackett is an incredible musician and his band is extremely talented. Leader singer Nad Sylvan captivated with his voice....it was stunning to hear Peter Gabriel's voice from years ago live on. The songs were so well performed that the audience was woven into silent appreciation until every note was finished. My friends and I talked for hours about youthful memories that were restored by this performance. Lastly, a word of thanks to Steve Hackett for what he has given us...amazing music. I would see this show again if I could.

Coming from New Jersey, getting to Westbury during Friday rush hour traffic is the worst possible thing you could do, and that having been said, it was well worth it to see such a guitar virtuoso as Steve Hackett. His playing is tremendous and must be seen to be believed, the economy of motion and the notes he is able to generate will amaze anyone who appreciates good guitar playing. Combined with a completely first-rate band playing nothing but selections from his Genesis background, and you have a night for the ages,. I truly felt like I was in a place that I belonged like never before with all the other fans singing along. A magical night that will not soon be forgotten by those in attendance!

The concert with little or no production antics may very well be the greatest 19 or so songs performed that I have seen in the last 30:years. The concert was fabulous because its about the songs, the music. The songs are so good and so unique and so far ahead of its time that, thirty some odd years later, they still appear to have a futuristic appeal to them. What a treat and a Blessing that HACKETT is still motivated to tour and bring us fans, new and old, a chance to re-live' and witness just how great the period of time was for one of the truly great rock bands of all time. No BS, just good music! Jim

Steve--Can't wait to see you again next year--awesome. Only complaint is your vocalist--hard to replace Peter or Phil but he fell quite short--glad the instrumentals overpowered him. Setlist was fantastic.

I bought these tickets for my prog loving musician boyfriend. When he insisted I go, I thought it'd be nice, but that I'd probably snooze through most of it as I'm a metal chick. I appreciate Genesis, especially the older stuff, but it's not my thing. Have to say, it was an AMAZING concert. Steve Hackett, original tap master, rocked a lot harder than most acts today. Between the revitalized classic songs and wonderful light show, there was not a boring moment in 2+ hours. The band was spot on and everyone had smiles on their faces, obviously enjoying their time on stage. The singer was very Peter Gabriel-esque in his manners, except he was a far superior vocalist. The perfect show for a music lover.

Since seeing Peter Gabriel era Genesis live is no longer an option, this may be the closest one can get. For a diehard old Genesis fan like me, it was a downright religious experience. Absolutely prefect performances by everyone in the band. Mr. Hackett clearly has a pact with the devil -- he doesn't seem to have aged a day in 30 years, and his virtuosity seems effortless.

Start to finish was a must for classic Genesis fans. Never thought I would here those songs live by a actual Genesis member. Always teased at Genesis shows with "medley" of classics. Supporting band was right on -with eyes closed sounded note for note the way I hoped it would. Steve looks exactly the same-felt like I was in a timewarp to 1977.

Steve Hackett came on stage and explained to the delight of all that "I still love the old music and I will continue to play it!" And that love shone through with every song. T two highlights of a complete show were "The Musical Box" the 5th song he played and "Supper's Ready" near the end of the set. Standing ovations to both. The final encore "Los Endos" left the audience wanting more and wishing he would play more. If you have the chance and liked Genesis in the 70's it's a must see show.

This is the third year in a row that I ve seen Steve Hackett in concert at the Orpheum Theater and it keeps getting better each time! So glad he always includes Supper s Ready in his sets. Firth of Fifth is always great too. This time he also performed One For The Vine from the Wind And Wuthering album. Wish he would have also included Eleventh Earl Of Mar. It would be cool to see him do The Battle of Epping Forest. Maybe he could fit those and other Genesis songs in if he did a concert with only Genesis songs. That would be like going to heaven.

Excellent Concert, Had tickets both days and the Meet & Greet. Steve Hackett is a gracious, personable, & talented guy. The music was precise & smooth. His guitar playing was perfect as was the rest of the band. Nad Silvan's voice is perfect for the Genesis part of the show. Roger King's keyboard playing is spot on. Rob Townsend Sax, Flute, Base, and the wide array of instruments highlight the subtleness of Steve Hackett's and Genesis's music. Gary O'Toole drum's, percussion and vocals added to the experience. and finally Jonas Reingold - Bass guitar , 12 String, and double 12string with Base was the completion of the whole package to make this one of the best performances I have been to.

The show was split into two sets. BE IN YOUR SEAT WHEN THE 2nd SET STARTS! You don't want to miss one minute!!! Set one has a lot of Solo Hackett material. Its a real lesson on just how much Steve contributed and shaped the sound of Genesis. Is has a lot of instrumental work and nice vocal harmonies that are great, But I couldn't help thinking "Wow if Perter was singing this I'd be in heaven" The sett builds to a very Genesis' crescendo, with room shaking pedal bass. Set two is pure classic Genesis... the full ride; Soaring Keyboards Thundering bass and drums and outstanding vocal (tastefully provided by Nad Sylvan) with Hackett's incredible shredding guitar over the top. i was 18 again. Sadly you can't get the old farts to stand up for anything. even when he clearly tells them, it's the last song... and then the white lights are blasting you in the face (classic Genesis) Sadly people were unwilling to give the band it's proper due and GET ON YOUR FEET for two lousy minutes!!!!! People don't seem to understand how much a band feeds on crowd engagement!

The Steve Hackett Show in Reading, PA was a fabulous time for all! The songs from his upcoming album, especially Behind the Smoke, which was especially relevant to the state of the world as it is about refugees, were all what is to be expected from the band and master guitar player, Steve Hackett. They left the audience with an intense impatience for the upcoming release date! The Wind and the Wuthering songs added a craving for the old style Genesis tunes and Afterglow just blew the theater away! As always, Nad Sylvan on vocals nailed each Genesis tune with his amazing voice that is almost a cross between Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins! If you are an avid Hackett fan, you will not be disappointed and anyone that has not yet seen Hackett live, this is the time to do it!

Really a great show! Good lighting and sound and the band are just perfect! Steve Hackett is one of my favorite guitarists on the planet (and a real good vocalist !). Wonderful venue for this performance, the Orpheum is an amazing place. I gave this show 5 stars for just pure enjoyment, but it could have been louder (based on my level of hearing loss). The speaker system was a standard issue 32 cabinet line array and for a huge deep theatre like the Orpheum it didn't carry up to the balcony as much as I would have liked. Could have used more center fill speakers and hung a bit higher, possibly twice as much line array. His vocalist Nad Sylvan seemed to struggle with the higher parts of Phil Collins songs, but was pretty good on Peter Gabriel range. Hackett and drummer Gary O'toole EXCELLENT vocalists. Roine Stolt a most excellent bass player but sang surprisingly little, mostly back up.

Very inimate show with Steve Hackett delivering another extremely skilled guitar performance backed with wonderful musicians including old standbys Roger King (keyboards), Rob Townsend (reeds), and Gary O'Toole (percussion). Nad Sylvan (vocals) who is, I'm guessing, the best overall Peter Gabriel sound/perfomance-like singer out there. And (surprise) the ever amazing Roine Stoldt (bass/backup guitar) who is a Swedish guitar-God who hails from The Flower Kings. First set was songs from his many, many solo projects and the second set was all Genesis material. Crowd was respectful and super in to it and for good reason - a very powerfulful progressive rock show with wonderful melodies and many, many very powerful moments. After seeing 2 Genesis shows (with Steve Hackett) and 2 other Steve Hacket solo shows, I was once again thrilled to see Steve again play another amazing concert! And as an added bonus, Roine Stoldt could not have fit in more perfectly with this skilled band and added another very classy, more than skilled piece to this awesome puzzle!

Superb concert; progressive rock as it was back then yet fresh and preserved. Singers were okay, however the drummer who sang as well, did so very well. The blonde long-haired dude did well, however he seemed tired and or sick, as he couldn't reach the notes that he had done on YouTube videos from this same show at other venues... All in all, musically and talent wise, everyone was just fantastic. These are tough songs to play, and then when Steve Hackett come outs and just kills it, you're feeling, Damn, can it get any better than this? :) Bravo.. Audience consensus was that this show was much better than expected! Hackett has assembled a terrific band that sounds very much like the lineup on the 1977 Seconds Out album - for me, THE high point of live progressive rock records. This show was 100% Genesis material from Lamb and earlier - no Hackett solo material. Some of Steve's guitar solos were letter perfect to the studio versions, and others were reconjured more elaborately. High points: Dance On a Volcano, Squonk, The Musical Box, Fly On a Windshield, and Supper's Ready! SO glad I went! I hope they are recording these shows for a CD release.

At least while on stage, Steve Hackett is a man of few words. He lets his crisply honed guitar speak for itself. One of the true rock guitar virtuosos, he blistered through a the Cleveland show at the Hard Rock Rocksino - Northfield Park. Starting off the set started off with a pair of dance songs: Dance On A Volcano and Dancing With The Moonlit Knight, Hackett joked, Here's another song you can't dance to." No one seemed to mind. We all sang and stomped and clapped along with him anyway. As is true with so much of Genesis early work, the heavy prog, jazz-infused and intricate song craft shines through and can be relatively complex to follow; except almost all of the ravenous fans in attendance knew each note of every song. And virtually every song ended with a standing ovation! Hackett s brilliant contributions to the early-era Genesis were well represented on this very special evening. The complete song list is outlined below and posted online and so won t be listed here. Suffice it to say, Hackett and his band honored the memory of a long and distant past, closely following the original album (yes, I mean vinyl) versions. This is a very richly talented group of musicians; completely necessary to step on stage with a guitarist in class of Mr. Steve Hackett. Especially impressive were Roger King on keyboards and Nick Beggs on bass guitar, but the theatrical Nad Sylvan (vocals), Rob Townsend (sax, flute, keyboards) and Gary O toole (drums and percussion, vocals) held up their respective portions of the stage and more! In addition, the sound quality of the show was among the finest I ve ever experienced. Each instrument was distinctly audible. No one instrument was overpowered or out of balance. If this tour is coming to a town anywhere near you it s a must see!

Awesome concert! Almost pure Genesis from start with Dance on a volcano, several excursions into Lamb lies down, almost the entire Selling England by the pound and Nursery Crime, finishing with Supper's Ready and encore with Watcher of the Skies and Los Endos. If you love the old Genesis, go see this! The singer had a similar voice to Peter Gabriel, although quite the range. But at least he was wearing very authentic permed curls, fake-blonde headbanger hair, frill shirt and leather-patched, skin-tight bell bottom pants - very 70s, indeed! The rest of the band was much less flashy, but great musicians and, of course, that whirring and whining, scruffing or staccato guitar was spot-on all the time. Steve Hackett did a wonderful job putting this together and interpreting it in its most original way.

Finally, after waiting for months and months for the day to arrive\u2026Steve Hackett performing his Genesis-era tunes at Town Hall in New York. Hackett and the entire band were playing tight, acting loose and having fun\u2026Steve himself had a wide grin all evening, and was even hamming it up a bit for the guitar effects. He didn t put a single note wrong, really quite amazing to see this in person. He chatted up the audience between songs, stating that the Revisited tour would go on through the end of the year, and that s it, eliciting disapproval from the fans, who can t get enough. Standout cuts: The Musical Box: This one knocked \u2018em dead\u2026everyone sat stunned in amazement, a powerful reminder of what that young band could do, only now sonically perfected\u2026first standing ovation of the night. Firth of Fifth: Famous for its blazing guitar solo, again all mouths agape\u2026standing O for the solo, before the song was even over. Horizons: Hackett played this, as has been his preference for many years, on a nylon string guitar and a bit more allegro than the original, a crowd pleaser. Supper s Ready: a sing-along and rave-up, always a prog favorite. Only let down: no Wind & Wuthering tracks on this night; still, 2 ½ hours of incredible songs.

It was an intimate venue which made the concert all the more better. We had front row middle seats - perfect! Having been so close up to the band, not only did we appreciate the incredible music -- but also the technical expertise which we would not have seen had we not been so close.

As a lifelong Genesis fan, my jaw dropped when I discovered he was planning a visit to the Jacksonville area. Not one to pass by an opportunity, I picked up the meet and greet passes, which were an incredible bargain given the time we were able to spend with the guitar virtuoso himself (professional photo included)! We were the first in line, and though I was star struck, he calmly explained how this had happened to him as well, immediately putting me at ease and cementing his "good guy" status. He and his wife couldn't have been more cordial and amiable, truly humble and pleased to meet their fans. We were then treated to over 2.5 hours of 1971 - 1976 rock heaven from front row center seats. His band carries themselves with a visable passion for the material, and genuinely appeared to be having fun on stage. When the debate arises as to who the greatest (or, more importantly, talented) guitarists were, Steve Hackett will unquestionably be counted among them. Rush the box office and see this true gentleman and professional now - I know I will again - you won't be disappointed! (If Steve or his management team ever read this, we can't wait for you to visit Ponte Vedra/Jacksonville again - thanks for an incredible evening and lifetime of amazing music!)

Paid for the meet and greet 1st row seats and we were not disappointed. Got Steve to autograph my Seagull 12-string acoustic guitar before the show! All the songs were performed flawlessly without missing a note and the acoustics at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall were amazing. Everyone was laughing and smiling during the entire performance. Bass response from the sound system was vibrating the hair on top of my head! Steve plays very hard for someone who's so soft-spoken. The band playing with Steve is exceptional and I'll be checking out the solo work of his bassist Nick Beggs because he might be Mike Rutherford's unknown son...the man can definitely play! I never liked the old Genesis songs played without Hackett, but the other way around these vintage tunes have never sounded better sans Rutherford, Collins and, dare I say it, Gabriel and Banks! Gary O'Toole could easily pass for Phil Collins in the technical playing department. I would go see this show again if it comes around. Had trouble sleeping after the show because it was that good...simply amazing and everyone on next weeks Cruise To The Edge is going to have a great time. Enjoy!

Steve put on an excellent show. 2&1/2 hours of all the Genesis from 1969-1977. Top notch musicians. Singer was great in spite of his propensity for pirate-themed wardrobe changes. If you are a fan of this era, and everyone there was, you won't be disappointed.

Steve hasn't lost a bit. I felt like I was 16 again. The tall blond guy invoked al little Gabriel without him appearing to copy him. I was in awe of his mastery of all things stringed. Watched of the skies was my fave. He received many standing os. I didn't want him to stop. Well go again. thanks Steve. Band behind him all l tremendous. cudos to the bass player. Wow! he also played a right handed guitar upside down. but still strummed down. interesting. pay off the unique sound. Very able indeed

What an incredible group of talented musicians! Steve Hackett's solos alone were worth the ticket price. Especially on Dancing With the Moonlit Knight, The Musical Box, The Lamia, and of course, Firth of Fifth. The entire show was fantastic and full of energy! Supper's Ready had to be the highlight. Just the structure of the song itself and then part VI: "Apocalypse in 9/8" - Unbelievable, especially for a drummer like myself. Keep thinking... 123**12**1234 !!! Then towards the end of Supper's Ready the mics & some instruments kicked-out, but the crowd kept the song going. Old Genesis Fans never forget (and Ripples never come back.)

The show was exactly as billed. This was an opportunity for anyone not lucky enough to see Genesis with Hackett, play the songs that really formed the true fan base for the band. This small theater, tucked away in Lakehurst, NJ, was the perfect place to witness what was easily the best Genesis experience I have ever had. I've seen the group Genesis several times - back in the day - but this is the first time I had the privilege of seeing and listening to Mr. Hackett on the lead guitar. As such, this was the first time I have ever witnessed these songs played with the intricacy and depth that Steve imbues them with. Just an absolute pleasure. Steve Hackett has not lost a step... truly an amazing show - not to be missed.

This was a great show for me as my first Genesis show was in 1980 long after Steve left the band. The revisited experience really emphasizes how different the songs are live with Steve at the helm. Anyone a fan of 1971-77 era Genesis should definitely check out this show if possible. The only problem as in many things in life are comparisons and expectations. Genesis live has always been a front man focus experience. Setting aside the naysayers I loved Phil Collins energy and humor in those early 80's Genesis concerts, he really connected with the audience. Those concerts just blew me away, awesome songs and musicianship combined with endearing charisma and high energy. And that is really the shortfall of the revisited concert, there is no charismatic leader. The focus is all on Steve's playing and the songs which is perfectly ok, I just went in expecting more based on my Genesis live experience. Nad Sylvan while competent is just well, odd, not even a discount cousin of Pete or Phil. But maybe that was the whole idea, to keep the focus on Steve's playing. I still can't help but wonder what a Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) led concert would have been like - I much prefer his voice. Bottom line is just don't go in expecting a Genesis show and you'll be fine, it's a Steve Hackett concert. And Steve is a pretty subdued let the music speak for itself kinda guy. He's also one of the most distinctive and talented guitarists in rock history and this show was a great opportunity to hear where it all began for him.

I first saw Genesis at the Roxy before they were known. It was Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford (Mike and the Mechanics), Tony Banks, and Steve Hackett. Long ago, but I remember it well. Genesis went on to pop fame after Peter and Steve left, but I prefer the original music. Steve Hackett has an amazing band that plays the original Genesis music perfectly. And they include many songs from Steve Hackett's solo albums. As a keyboardist, I know how hard the Tony Banks Genesis parts are to play, and they were played perfectly note by note. The drums bass and other instruments were played to perfection. The multi instrumentalist was amazing. As I told the people next to me, the singer sounds more like Peter Gabriel than Peter Gabriel does. It was a fun time remembering some of the favorite music from my youth. Thanks Steve for keeping up the great tradition! I will be back for more on your next trip through town.

I love me some Genesis. I love me some Hackett. This night, I was blessed to hear both of them (with a sprinkle of GTR). Without spoiling the song list, this was an amazing show (a little hiccup in the sound at the start, but nbd). Steve Hackett and his band came to play, and even though it was cold in the LA area, made a lasting impression on this young fan. Steve even took someone's Genesis heckle with grace and comedy, which made me smile (f that guy).

Steve Hackett is one of the top guitarists ever. He showed it again at his 2018 concert. He upgraded his band with two new musicians in the line up. And he did not disappoint with his set list. He performed the equivalent of an entire concert set list from his solo career including a gem from his days with GTR. Then he took an intermission and returned to the stage for an entire second concert set list spanning his entire career with Genesis including a special guitar finale for Supper's Ready. He then did a huge encore. We can only hope and pray he returns in 2019 (if not sooner) to grace us with such talent again.

I've seen Hackett play since the early 70s when he was with Genesis through his last two solo tours. This concert was a little flat at times, less energy and still had great musicianship throughout. His band is phenomenal, his playing is super-accurate but his lead voice is a bit underwhelming and his choice of Nad Sylvan to sing the Genesis songs is at times inspired and at times pedestrian. Hackett is not a showman, but rather, an approachable guy with mega talent. If you love Genesis as musicians and don't mind a subpar singer, this event is great. If you're looking for more energy than that, then I would recommend it as a good, but not great event.

If you call your tour Genesis Revisited, your songs should be Gensesis songs, right? If you want to throw in a couple remakes of Yes or some other progressive band, fine. Or a couple of your own solo career. But this concert was really about Hackett selling his own albums post-Genesis. Of 16 songs, only half were Genesis, and most of them were older very obscure songs. On You Tube, you will find Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Cinema Show, Chamber of 32 Doors, I Know What I Like and many other great songs played by this same Steve Hackett band. He played none of those. Of the great Genesis songs the band played on its famous and awesome Seconds Out double album tour, he played only Firth of Fifth, Supper s Ready, and Los Endos. There was one other song I recognized. So 3 hours of great musicians, but not what I expected at all and not the quality of Genesis of the 70 s. A little under one hour of the music I came to hear\u2014the last 4 songs. By then I was so disappointed it took effort to get excited, although those songs were up to the expectations. Just too little too late.

Having scene Steve Hackett 16 times in the last 5 years I'm a little biased. He was great. If you haven't scene him before, GO, GO, GO! Having said that he seems a little tired of playing/singing the same Genesis songs over and over. He said he likes them and plays them well and with passion but seems to like his solo stuff more. Can't blame him. Maybe I'm getting tired of seeing him? Who knows. Will keep going because he's so good and I too love the Genesis songs.

This was my 4th time seeing Steve Hackett (and the second time at the Scottish Rites Auditorium) and he was great, as always. Although I prefer a whole "Genesis Revisited" show, I am starting to enjoy him doing his first set - made up of originals and songs from other side projects - followed by a second set of Genesis classics. I encourage anyone who is a early Genesis fan - or a fan of virtuoso musicianship in general - to see him when he comes around, you will not be disappointed :)
