This was a one of a kind show for such a huge talent that Eric Johnson is! Very intimate and friendly setting, it felt like you had a show in your very own basement. This show was the first for me in the Taft Theater Ballroom. Great experience!

I've seen EJ numerous times going back as far as 1984. This was one of the best shows I've seen him do. As a drummer, I was particularly impressed with Tommy Taylor. He's a year older than I am and he hasn't slowed down one bit. In fact, he seemed even better than I remember him being before.....He was Animal (from the Muppets) on steroids! Kyle Brock was equally impressive with his bass skills, however I'm partial to Chris Maresh as he's a bit more versatile, but this being the "Ah Via Musicom Tour" It was nice to see Kyle again. Of course this review would be remiss without mention of Arielle, who opened for him and joined EJ and the band for a few songs. What a wide range of styles from classical to hard rock. She's a talent to be reckoned with! The only reason I didn't give this 4 stars was due to the seating at the Ponte Vedra Music Hall. Although the folding chairs were cushioned, they were jammed together making it tough to sit next to anyone over 100 pounds without feeling their every move. But I guess in such a small venue, they want to get as many seats as possible. Also, I noticed the PVMH is making improvements such as the deck recently built on the north side of the building which provides more breathing room during breaks. So they are obviously trying to make the experience better.

As expected, Mr. Johnson provide a wonderful experience. He played songs the fans all would recognize like Zap or Rain. He also did some cover songs from Jimi Henricks and Robert Johnson. It as a great concert and I am glad I attended.

First of all Eric Johnson didn't come on until very late, it was 45 min after the first band finished, half the house was asleep by the time he started! The gear was already there, they just had to clear out the first bands stuff. Eric Johnson's performance was amazing as ever, but the volume in the intimate House of Blues was excruciating! Even with earplugs my ears were ringing the next day. I hate to wear ear plugs because that muffles the highs, but I had no choice if I wanted to survive this show. What is up!? I know HOB is capable of good sound, I've heard it. I just don't get it. I also would have liked to have heard more of Eric's stuff featuring his finesse and creative progressions, but he chose to make this more of a blues night with several covers as well...I understand an artist's choice, but wasn't my favorite. The opening act should have been something other than a SRV starter kit. This crowd came to see an awesome player in Eric Johnson and was geared for that, so starting with another guitarist was not what I wanted to see...maybe a singer or keyboardist or even something acoustic? I will go to see Eric next time he is in town, providing it is not HOB.

The first time i saw them, they played last house on the block and ive been waitng to hear it again. all i can say is WOW!!!!! It was also a surprise to hear them do the old blues tunes ...i loved it. This show was a change from the standard hit concerts. Ive been to 20 shows at HOB i can say the sound was suberb for ec & alc.

It was like a seminar on guitar sound and technique. Four amps all miked separately. The Gibson SG was nice to see and hear. I thought I heard some Who Live at Leads. I think they did a tribute to Entwhistle. The Hendrix and Clapton was nice to hear done HIS way. The bass player was also worth a show by himself.

I've enjoyed Eric for years now and he didn't disappoint. Someone once said that this great guitarist has more nuance in his little finger than most of his colleagues have in their entire bodies. Eric is so good that this is not necessarily a slight on his colleagues. It's great to watch the best in the world perform at their specialty and Eric still seems the best in the world. I bought a ticket for my son who is in his mid-twenties. It turned out to be a great evening of cross-generational sharing. Thanks, Eric, for once again sharing your extraordinary talent.

The Dallas House of Blues is a great place to see a show. Eric Johnson ripped through his own material (which I didn't know besides Cliffs of Dover) and played Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, and Jimi Hendrix. The man is an incredible musician. Alien Love Child completes him; the rhythm section rocked.

Eric seemed so consumed witht the technical aspects that it didn't come across as him having any fun at all. He played to this bass guitarist and drummer more than he did the audience. I think being in the studio so long has put him out of touch with his fans.

No cliffs of Dover! Knowing that this might have been my only Eric Johnson show I was a little bummed that he didn't play that or mahnhattan. Still agreat show nontheless. Opening band wasn't bad and Eric really put on a he'll of a show. The section where it was him on solo guitar truly exemplified his guitar prowess which is legendary. Also, I felt the volume of the show was geared toward an older crowd. I mean I was in the front and at a concert am usually expecting to get blown away by the energy of the sound, my favorite part of a rock show. This concert seemed to turn it down from 11 to 7. Stll an amazing show though.

I was surprised by the opening act, totally refreshing. Other than a loud reverb amp, I'd go out of my way to see them again. Eric & ALC cam on about 9:15 and played through 11:00 not once missing a lick, chord or fret. His fingerwork is beyond comprehesion. It left this frustrated guitarist in total awe, sort of when the Joker in one of the early Batman Movie said, "Where does he get those toys?'' The crowd was short of a sell out, perhaps the economy or the fact that it was a school night had something to do with it, but those who did come were well entertained by a master craftsmen. His Jimmi Hendrix tribute was beyond belief, I almost flashbacked. We look forward to his next session and release.

There's little to say other than Eric Johnson is rightly considered one of the greatest guitarist on the planet. This was my second time to see him but have been a fan for years. The man's ability to deliver the clean and perfect sounds and tones of a studio recording when he's live is simply unbelievable. This is a show I believe anyone would appreciate and enjoy. If you've never seen him live, treat yourself and be enveloped in a full assault of sound, harmonics and overall pure guitar genius.

Only our second tip to the Wilbur. Happy with our seats. Not happy with the service. Considering the prices they were charging for drinks, it would have been nice to not wait over 20 minutes to be waited on. Nothing aggravates me more than observing people who were seated after us get waited on before us. Very poor service on behalf of the Wilbur wait-staff. Our first EJ concert. Love the CDs. Just too much guitar. I enjoy great guitar playing, but EJ has some great songs where he also SINGS. There is no doubt that EJ is very talented, but I would have liked to hear some more non-instrumental selections.

No, this is not a review about a "married" woman. It's about Melodies-Riff management-Sound production. Experience and years of performing show effortlessly when a guitar is placed in the hands of Eric Johnson. The venue (Wilbur Theatre, Boston) was an exceptional place to hear Eric's performance. In fact, the venue was only eclipsed by Eric's masterful playing. The combination of melodic themes, amazing 'chops,' and the diversity of the sounds produced, make an Eric Johnson concert not only entertaining, but truly riveting. I've always been torn between which guitarist I admired best, but after this show, the choice became obvious. I also have to give him a shout-out for the leading act Eric chose to tour with him. Arielle (classic folk rock artist) shared a pure, sweet voice along with her own guitar-playing style. She managed to fill the hall with music all by herself. True artists (Eric, Kyle Brock, Tommy Taylor and Arielle).

Eric Johnson and company did a nice job at the Filmore in Silver Springs, MD. The band was tight and the opening solo act was fine. The show got better as it went on and by the end of the encore performance you got the feeling that EJ was there to give a nice performance for the crowd rather than just go through the motions. The downside was the exorbitant price of beer at The Filmore. Thinking it would be cheaper, I got a 24 oz. bud light draft instead of 12 oz can. IT WAS $13. Then I find out that a 12 oz. can of bud light was $6. We got 2 nasty bud light drafts for $26 when we could have gotten 4 cans of bud light for $24. First time I had to pay more for cheap draft beer than cans....

Attending a concert in a wheelchair isn't always easy. This experience was excellent, easy, I could go on & on. From the moment I "wheeled" up to the front walk (I called, so I knew there was no ramp), an agent greeted me, escorted me to the accessible entrance, and from there 2 other agents continued with getting me to my seat (A-B-3 & 4). These may as well have been front row! The view was unobstructed, sound quality great, nobody hit my chair from behind & they provided my guest with a chair as well. The opener, Arielle, was amazing and an excellent intro to Eric Johnson. His vocals were very low, not sure if that's just how he is live or if the mic needed tweaking. Regardless, this was a phenomenal show & I would see it again. Thanks to all who made this birthday weekend event so wonderful!

Disappointing on many levels 1. Sound was awful - Hard time hearing lyrics - instruments were much louder but semi-distorted - I've been to Center Stage for Prog Rock and the sound was ok so it's hard to pin the blame. 2. Temperature - very warm/hot near top of arena. Wasn't a cold night so Center Stage should've planned better. 3. Wish he would've played more EJ material vs. Arielle duets and covers. If he had just played Ah Via Musicom in its entirety and ended the show, that would've been ok as well because that's sort of what I was expecting with this tour (hence the name). Oh well. At least it was pretty cheap.

Eric delivered in spades as he normally does. A nice twist on his usual set list with the first half being a mixture of old tunes, some acoustic, and even piano. Nice to hear his take on Black Mountain Side by Led Zeppelin. Also nice to see the original band members Kyle Brock and Tommy Taylor. A lot of gems that harken back to his 1988 ACL show like Trail of Tears and C.W. the bass solo by Kyle Brock. An intermission and then A Via Musicom in its entirety, a first for Eric. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've heard him play Forty Mile Town live and it was awesome. Also have to mention Arielle. This was my first time seeing her but she's got a new fan. A fantastic guitar player with an amazing voice. She also plays piano beautifully. Lots of great original tunes with a variety of styles and feels. As we all know EJ is a phenom... tone, ability etc. As a professional, educated musician myself, I had hoped his rhythm section would be as equally gifted. And while they were certainly competent, they paled greatly in comparison (it felt like they weren't his regular guys and were sitting in last minute). The club itself was also a let down... there were MAJOR sound issues... at certain moments, the sound (particularly) EJ's guitar sounded as if it were coming through a paper towel tube... or that there was a tube sock underneath his strings. He came out and was listening to the mains later in the show, and was apparently noticing the same thing. So, the King of Tone had bad guitar tone, which was unfortunate. And the volume in general, was very low... I don't know about everyone else, but I don't need to be able to comfortably talk during a "rock" show. The kick drum should hit me in the chest, EJ should've been soaring, but sadly it was none of that. Kind of a sleeper show, frankly.

Eric Johnson is an incredible guitarist, able to move seamlessly from genre to genre, even within the same song. On this tour, EJ stretches out even more, playing piano, acoustic guitar, his soon-to-be-released semi-hollow body Stratocaster, and even a Gibson Les Paul. The set was a nice mix of new and old (it was cool to hear Manhattan in Manhattan), including some brand new stuff that he hadn't even named yet. The opening act was Arielle, an immensely talented young singer, guitarist, and songwriter. She did her own set and then joined EJ and the band for a few songs. All in all, an fantastic evening.

I have seen Eric several times, starting at the Fast and Cool club in Dallas in the mid 80's. Stevie Ray joined him on stage and Eric proved he belong there, as one of the all time great guitar players. At the house of blues, he was clearly in a relaxed mood, and tried some new stuff. He played piano, never saw that before. He did some country "chicken picken" and it was awesome. And of course he closed the show with a couple of Jimi Hendrix covers, because ... well he can. If you ever get a chance , go see the guy. You will enjoy yourself.

First off -- yes, it was a good show. My challenge is that it seemed more like a Mike Stern show on the coat tails of Eric Johnson. I know they have a new record out together, but I thought I was going to see an Eric Johnson show but instead saw Eric in the background of a Mike Stern show.

A night one is not soon to forget by those in attendance. Nice to see a few folks that were at Eric's UP CLOSE Tour in 2012 there & a few followers Coco Montoya at our table...so a Savvy group of music attendees who were fully engaged by fireworks on Veterans Day 2014. Improv by these two was amazing and had folks shaking their heads and laughing in disbelief as these two looked to be having the time of their life entertaining us. The joking and head cutting......effortless synergy. Maybe the greatest Guitar Lessons my Daughter will get. She plays Guitar with School Of Rock National All Stars....and locally in Seekonk We will be at "all shows" within driving distance...unless she has to play...lol Try to get out to see these guys while they are playing together...Truly Special Music is Good for the Soul ... One more thing that should be noted.....Humble...these are two of the All Time greats...and after the show they took the time to meet with folks...not many at this level do it anymore...Ticket Price affortable....its $125 if you want to see Joe Bonamassa and sit in the rafters....Really like Joe...seen him 20+ times but $25-45-65-75-99-$125 Just can't afford it ...these guys get it ...not doing it to take your paycheck Refreshing ... Awesome show in Boston Sunday night! I've seen Eric play a few times before, so I know what a great guitar player he is. But tonight was just another level. Brilliant stuff! And great work by Anton Fig & Will Lee! My only familiarity with them is what you catch on The Late Show with David Letterman, and obviously that just doesn't do them justice. I've been to maybe twenty shows so far this year, and this has to rank in my top three (YES, and Zappa Plays Zappa would be the other two). Some friends would be shocked that I didn't include the Ted Nugent - REO Speedwagon - STYX show (2nd row seats for three bands on one night playing songs you knew and wanted to hear, and playing them to perfection). Or ZZ Top & Lynyrd Skynyrd (where I splurged for the Live Nation VIP and had front row). But as great as those shows were, the talent and artistry that were on display Sunday night was unreal. To be honest: the only songs I recognized were Cliffs of Dover and The Wind Cries Mary (Hendrix tune). But you don't need to know the songs to appreciate the incredible jams! How I got a front table - front seat was lucky. I didn't buy tickets when the show first went on sale because I couldn't score anything up front, and The Patriots were on TV that night. But I keep checking Ticketmaster's 2 for 1 specials, and a couple weeks ago, this show popped up. And I have to guess that on the same day the 2 for 1 became available, that front table seats that were being held for VIPs or the band or whatever had just been released into the general ticket inventory. Had the best seat in the house, and at 1/2 price! And seeing how The Pats lost on a last second field goal: damn glad I went to the show! I heard someone by the merchandise table after the show say that they'll be back in March. Don't know if that's true ort not, but if it is, I'll be there! And thanks to Eric for signing my CD cover and ticket stub! The only downside: didn't realize they didn't allow photos. Most venues do today, as long as its not video or professional equipment (heck, just about everyone's phone is a camera these days). But after the 5th shot, security told me to put the camera away. So much for bringing back a photo collage to maybe get signed in March!

great show at great venue.... rare opportunities to get up close to artist. Eric delivered a quality show, a true guitar clinic, unbelievable guitar tones I knew he was amazing but I didn't know he was that eclectic, show featured Rock n roll , straight jazz, fusion... very cool!

I've probably seen Eric 25 times, this ranks right up in the Top 5. The selection, sound, and band were all top notch. Nice touch adding Chicago-based keyboardist Peter Stoltzman.

Since I am from Germany I never got the chance before to see Eric live. So I decided to travel to the US to see him. I really liked the venue itself. It had a nice club atmosphere with it's chairs and tables and the lightening and the overall atmosphere were just great. The moment when Eric appeared onstage was amazing to me. I listen to his music already for a couple of years and always had the wish to see him live one day and now he was standing there in real life! He started with the opener on Up Close 'Fat Daddy' and it sounded like that: fat. I know Eric's amp sounds but hearing and especially feeling them live is just unbelievable! The overall sound in the venue was very good. Even it was loud (not too loud!) you could Eric's voice clearly when he was singing! The band (Chris Marseh on Bass, Wayne Salzmann on Drums) did a good job. During some jam sessions they also had the chance to play some solos. They played two sets with songs from Up Close (Fat Daddy, Austin, Gem), older ones (When the sun meets the sky (Thank you Eric for playing it!), Cliffs of Dover, Zap), jazz songs, a Hendrix cover (Wind cries Mary), some stuff from Eric I never heard before and acoustic stuff from his tour with McKee and D'Agostino. So the concert was long enough to be satisfied. Even my girlfriend liked the setlist and she is a non-guitar player ;-) . During one of the jazz songs an awful feedback came up and urged the band to stop playing. I think Eric was a bit pissed off in that moment but when it was fixed they restarted the song and it was ok. The intro of cliffs of dover was one of Eric's dreamy clean-chord-single note-intros which almost made me cry hehe. So, overall it was a great concert and I hope seeing him again during my stay in the US. Thank you Eric, a dream has come true! Oliver PS. I really hope you come over to Europe one day. I am sure there are a lot of people there who want to hear you!

This was the first stop on Eric's current tour and my wife took me to this show as a holiday gift. Eric appeared as part of a trio and we found his show dazzling. By some of Eric's few comments, it appeared that he was not entirely happy with his playing. However the audience was obviously enjoying every minute and certainly showed their appreciation. Both Eric's bass player and drummer were stellar musicians and the sets were tight and the interplay was excellent. The last time I saw Eric Johnson was at the Experience Hendrix Tour in Boston. That was a disaster as the person running the soundboard had everything cranked up to 11 and you could not make out the subtle and flowing character of Eric's playing. At the Showcase Live, the soundboard tech was right on the money (with the exception of a brief bout of feedback which actually stopped the music). All in all this was an excellent show and I consider myself very fortunate to have seen Eric Johnson in this smaller venue. The venue looked to be a full house and we were seated at a table with six other folks who we did not know. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening with our new friends. The tickets were reasonable at $27. The food was very good and very reasonably priced, and the service was excellent. The venue is outstanding as there are no viewing obstructions no matter where you are seated. The seating is first-come so you do have to get there early if you want your choice of seating. If there was one thing I could have changed, it would have been to have Eric available to sign a CD after the show. It seems this should not be a big problem in a venue this size.

Played a brief acoustic set to open. Crowd consisted of mostly males who play guitar. Many had their tongues out for both sets. EJ is a true guitar virtuoso. Drummer and bass players were great but I thought the bass was too loud and distorted.

Ever the consummate musician, Eric Johnson once more served up an exquisite array of musical ideas. Originals from early in his career, mixed with more recent songs and some clever covers, the mix was a balanced offering to please the most demanding listeners. The crowd was congenial and the sound was crisp and clean as we have come to expect from Texas' great Tone King. On top of that, he's a true Southern gentleman and is gracious to those of us who are allowed to go backstage and say "hello" to him after the show. Thank you Eric and may you continue playing for many years to come.

Eric has got to be one of the most accomplished guitarists ever. Not only is he talented he's a true Texas gentleman. He absolutely tore it up at The House of Blues on Aug, 27. Can't wait to see Eric and Alien Love Child again sometime.

How do you play that quickly and that perfectly? Eric was the same, amazing performer I saw for the first time in 1990. And the same band members. WONDERFUL musicians, they are so TIGHT. Eric is a well-known perfectionist, it shows. The 2nd half of the show was an end-to-end performance of his best-selling and most known record, Ah Via Musicom. Fabulous. What a great venue for a show, I am now watching regularly for upcoming acts!

Absolute excellence in the art of the 6 string. Eric Johnson hasn't lost a step. Every member of the trio was exceptional. One of the best guitarists in music. Taft needs to work on ventilation in the ballroom, but I love the "feel" of the room. Had a great time.

If you don't know who Eric Johnson is or what he is about then I am unsure why you are reading this. If you are aware of him and his music...I probably don't need to try to convince you to get yourself a seat to see this tour...you will NOT be sorry that you did. I don't often also recommend the "warm up" but Arielle is well worth the time (and she also joins Eric later for a couple of numbers). After a short set of her own, Arielle introduces Eric and away it goes. The first set has songs from Tones (the most notable being "Trail of Tears"), Venus Isle (my favorite "SRV"), and a couple of "covers" from his new album (including the 60's guitar standard "Pipeline" in an arrangement that overwhelms the original). After a brief intermission Eric comes back out and plays the entire "Ah Via Musicom" album from start to finish with little or no dialogue or discussion--it is like listening to the album live with the added benefit of extended solos! This was my first (hopefully not my last) time to see Eric. I have been a fan for years and had never found myself in circumstances that allowed me to see him live. SO glad I did. This is THE BEST $35 you will EVER spend on concert tickets. The venue was not large but the intimacy of the place helped with the atmosphere of the show...what a treat!

Awesome. Bought best seats available directly from the venue website and ended up WAY on the side. Venue was only 2/3rd s sold out at best and fillers came down and took better seats than what I paid for. I was only slightly upset because that show was so good. I had a nice big screen in front of my seat on the side and got some good close up shots anyway.

Great Show. Every time I get to watch Eric Johnson when he is in So Cal, he always throws a great show and an entertaining evening of mesmerizing guitar licks that make me that much want to play as he does. Well, I can dream can't I? Overall a great show and if you have not seen him play, please do, you will not regret it.

Wow, Great show. If you like great guitar playing and a great band go see this show. What can I say Eric Johnson and Mike Stern both have there styles of playing, when they play together they complement each other in so may different levels. Two Favorite moments is when Eric Johnson just sat down and did his chords and solo clean guitar thing, And every time Mike smiled because he was having a great time playing.

Venue was great, seats were great, sound was great. Everyone in my group complained that for the entire show we saw nothing but Eric's back. I was always told this was poor showmanship, but what do I know, he's the one on stage. His playing was as good as always, yet, he passed most of the show to Michael, except perhaps the last few songs.

Eric has such an incredible playing style. This guy just gets better every time I hear him. His harmonics and precision are fantastic. The band was onstage for 2 hours plus with continuous arrangements. Anyone who appreciates real guitar will definitely need to see his work of art. The Variety Playhouse had real nice acoustics. Mike Stern also shred on his ax with real cool licks playing along with Eric note for note. Chris on bass is one of the best bass players. He wore a hole through the neck. Can't remember the drummer's name but he was on his game with the best drum patterns and great solos. They were having fun on stage with several funny episodes. I was able to meet Eric and Mike for a few minutes and can say they are some of the best musicians in the business.
