It was great seeing some of my favorite R&B performers still have what it takes to deliver Good Soul Music! The R&B enthusiast in me could not have asked for a better birthday treat!

Wow, what a truly memorable, historic and unique night! When I first learned of this concert I was psyched, I mean so much talent in one stage? I just couldn't believe it. Needless to say I was hyped and spent the weeks leading to the event listening to albums by all of the artists. The actual show blew away anything I could have imagined. Meli'sa Morgan and Shaila (formerly from Kiss-FM and now on WBLS) were co-hosts. It was great because it allowed Meli'sa to do a few songs spread throughout the show, and allowed her to have several fabulous outfit changes. :-) Newcomer Ms. J was the first one up and she was amazing! She had great versions of classics like Love TKO and Circles. She also did an original Dreams and it set a great tone for the night since it contained homages to Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott King and Angela Davis complete with their images being flashed on the screen. It set the perfect tone since this concert was truly about sisterhood and celebrating Black women. Monifah was up next and she was great. She did her hits and also did a stirring rendition of Purple Rain and a new song which sounded great. She even taught us the chorus so the audience could sing along. :-) She closed out with a spirited and fun performance of Touch It. Alyson Williams came out next, and I have to be honest I wasn't aware of much of her catalog but her personality! My goodness, I'd go see her any day. Her personality was big enough to fill the entire theater, and it did. She was very spirited and lively and she had great play banter with Meli'sa Morgan. Actually that was another big plus, the repartee that the artists had with each other was great. They really made you feel at home and added to the sisterhood experience. Alyson also played around with the years never revealing her age and moving the mic away from her mouth when she was going to reference a year. She said "I'm not helping you with math tonight." :-) Also, she informed the audience that the band was hers - the Alyson Williams Experience. They deserve special notice because they were amazing! They fit perfectly for every artist on there. Miki Howard was up next and all I could say was wow! She looked stunning, sounded great and best of all she did most of her performance from the audience. She climbed right off stage and walked up and down the aisles, even sitting next to people, as she did an extended version of Share My Love. She sure shared her love with us that evening. She also had great anecdotes about her love life and lessons learned. Last up was Melba Moore who looked so elegant and classy in her sparkly purple dress. I'm convinced that they could've turned the lights off at the Apollo and she could've lit up the room. :-) She was great, did all her hits, including some upbeat disco ones. She also gave the audience a toast, and in the end all the ladies were on stage for a powerful rendition of I'm Every Woman. Also before I forget an honorable mention to Meli'sa Morgan, as I said she co-hosted so her set was spread out but she did an awesome version of Sweet Thing and when she came out and did Fool's Paradise, backed by dancers, everyone was on their feet. Everything was on point about this show, the performers, variety of music eras covered, special effects, dancers, the live band...I mean they went all out and delivered an experience. I sure hope this becomes an annual event and it goes on the road. People need to see this and we need to support true artists still making music today. Let's keep the music alive.

The performance was excellent. I would however like to make a suggestion about the musical performers. The base guitar was too loud and it also had a buzz which made it hard to hear sometimes. I attended the performance with a musician friend who actually was very disappointed in what he experienced.

The ladies really took music to the highest level. The performances of Meli'sa Morgan, Miki Howard, Monifah, Allison Williams and the incomparable Melba Moore were phenomenal! I would have stayed there all night listening to them sing. The audience was captivated from Meli'sas first note. We were singing and swaying along with each of the performers. So many hits, so little time. (3hours) lol No auto tunes or synthesized music allowed. Good old R&B/ Funk done perfectly! The young ladies from the praise dancers group were a beautiful addition.

The show was great. MONIFAH was wonderful. Alyson Williams was absolutely breath-taking and flawless. Mel'issa Morgan was funny and quite a dress changer that made us party. Melba Moore looked and sounded great. Ms. J had too long of a set. I understand it was her show she put together but the hits should have reigned supreme for the time. I came to the show to see Miki Howard and was disappointed after the 1st song. I thought she would sing Baby Be Mine but she didn't. She barely sung Love Under New Management. I'm no expert but I just think Ms. Howard wasn't quite ready to perform that evening. Overall, the show was great. Old School is the only school. I HATED THE FACT WE COULD NOT TAKE PUCTURES FOR MEMORIES!
