Linda Ronstadt

Linda Ronstadt

From rock to country to opera, there's hardly a genre that 11-time Grammy winner and multi-award nominee Linda Ronstadt hasn't tackled with tremendous success. When Ronstadt performs live in concert, fans get a dynamic singer with a powerful voice that could shatter glass. Tickets to her tours sold out repeatedly as she broke all kinds of gender barriers, proving that a woman could hold her own in male-dominated rock and roll. Tucson-native Ronstadt met guitarist Bob Kimmel in college.

A wide and varied review of an impressive career. Three days later and the clips from "Long, Long Time" and "Don't Know Much" still echo in my head and heart.

My sister and I absolutely love Linda Ronstadt's voice. We grew up listening to 'Canciones de mi Padre' which was a CD where Linda signs classic traditional Mexican songs to mariachi music... And this is not easily done in concert as the artists voice must be able to outsing the live mariachi... Which she did, and rocked it every time. Unfortunately, the reason I am giving her 2 of the 5 stars is that we went to go see a show, a concert... And we were so disapointed to see Ms. Ronstadt in pants and a blouse singing to this amazing Mexican music. It was like seeing a Broadway Classical show with all the actors in their regualr clothes instead of their costumes. It was such a dissapointment to my sister, myself, and I know a lot of other people there as well...

My mom and I have loved Linda and her mariachi music.....she was the one who got me to listen to and sing to this music.....loved the whole show and the mariachis were FABULOUS! I do wish that Linda was not so robotic on stage and I wish she would have dressed more for the occasion, but overall it was a good show and I am glad I was able to experience this with my mama.

We have been fans since the 70's. We were very excited to hear Linda Ronstadt sing; we got tickets in the middle of the 6th row; we drove 5 hours to get to KC. The Mariache Band was good, their vocalists were extraordinary; they sang for probably 45 min. We kept waiting for Linda to sing. She finally did . . . but ALL songs were in Spanish and she only sang 6-8 songs with a weak voice. We had really wanted to hear some of the songs that had made her famous. Most entertainers of her age do a combo of old and new. We would not have attended if we had known the type of music was going to be purely mexican. However, there were many people in the audience who loved the music.

Linda did not appear for well over an hour and although Los Comparos are talented mariachi musicians their music is one dimensional, repititious. When Linda did appear her voice was drowned out by the overly loud accompaniment. We left before it was over.

OMG...still has the vocal cords she had when her career first took off. Unbelievable voice. The best in Rancheras, Country, or Rock. Have seen many concerts in my time but no single voice can make me feel what Linda Ronstadt can. Why not a Live album!!!

Since I was little, I heard Linda Ronstadt, and she was my father's favorite artist. LR came a couple of years to San Antonio, and unfortunately my father was ill, and we were not able to make her concert. We lost my father almost two years ago, and I was excited to see Linda Ronstadt in memory of him. The concert was names an evening LR... well we waited almost 45 minutes for the opening act to intorduce the artist. Ms. Ronstadt then would walk on stage sing 1-2 songs then leave the stage, and so on. I grew up with her spanish songs so I enjoyed them, but was dissapointed that she did not sing anything else. Ms. Ronstadt seemed that she was not that interested in being there as well. The dancers she selected and the Grammy award winning Mariachis she worked with were wonderful!!

The show was not advertised as being a spanish language show. It was titled An Evening with Linda Ronstandt. We paid $100 a seat to see her and saw mariachis and dancers. Her singing spanish I suppose traditional songs. We saw her sing 3 songs and left. Very disappointed and a waste of money.

My wife and I wanted to see Linda Ronstadt and to hear some of her old songs, but to our surprise it was all in Spanish. The problem with that is neither my wife or I speak Spanish. I feel like I was mislead because there was no advertising saying that it was all Spanish. We would not have spent $200.00 if we had known.

I was extremely disappointed with the concert. For a two hour event, Linda Ronstadt was on stage for approximately 45 minutes (and that's being generous). Her Mariachi ensemble performed with more enthusiam and energy than she did. She appeared to be going through the motions of droidly performing her songs and getting them over with. She came out a full hour later than ticket time...Mariachis performed incredibly but if they were her opening act, it should have been stated as such. I kept wondering "When is she coming on?" and when she finally did it was not worth the price or time to attend. She looked as bored as I was, only I wasn't paid for it. People walked out and it was difficult for me to stay through the whole event. Sad. Sad. Sad.

About 20 years ago I saw her perform the same songs from her "Canciones" cd at the Lincoln Center in Washington, DC when I lived there. She was fantastic. This time around she gets 4 stars from me, her voice cracked maybe 2 or 3 times that I could tell, but for the most part she still has the same voice she's always had. The most amazing part is that she can actually sing mexican songs with the expression, the emphasis and the passion necessary that makes us enjoy this music. The mariachi's were wonderful, expecially Mr. Hernandez, the mariachi who Linda chose to serenade her personally. Wow, what a voice indeed. Glad I went to see her sing again, and very happy she included us in her tour. Thanks Linda, from a San Antonio fan. God Bless.

My husband and I were very disappointed with the show. The mariachi's (who were very good) sang for about an hour before she started. Then she came on and she didn't even sing for a half hour total. She kept going off stage and they had dancers between every two or sometimes three songs. For the money people paid, she should have at least stayed on stage and sang more. It was more of a mariachi and Mexican show.

Linda's voice was not as strong as before. Although it was slightly entertaing the dancing was very short during songs. Linda would perfrom 3 short song versions then would leave off stage. She has no outfit changes and sounded tired when she addressed the audience. The mariachi was great and saved the show but people were not there to hear only the mariachis. The seating assigment was poor since there were pleanty of great balcony seating along the front row from end to end. All tickets sold were packed from the center towards the outer sides. We moved to the balcony sides where we had the same view as if we would have been on the floor seating!!

This woman is a tremendous talent whose career has spanned decades and genres. Llike myself and many others, Linda Ronstadt proudly reclaims her Mexican roots. However, we also share a rock/pop period. I really would have enjoyed hearing some of her earlier pre-Canciones de mi Padre songs. Don;t get me wrong, the show was terrific and very moving. No where in the listing did it mention that it was mostly going to be mariachis and that all the songs would be in Spanish. Linda Ronstadt sang for about a total of 50 minutes. She did not sing a single song in English. I was utterly disappointed as were a bunch of other people who left in the middle of the show. Don't get me wrong, I know her Spanish songs and like them a lot, but this is not what was advertised on Ticketmaster. This event was as advertised to be evening with Linda & nothing was mentioned about all Mexican music & mostly Mariachis preforming. I did not pay to see them & dancers. Linda's voice is fantastic and should get with David Foster & Clive Davis & step away from this loud boring & truly monotonous venue. A great talent being overshadowed. Lind is showing her age. She came out in a non-inspiring blue skirt and jacket with the "Virgen de Guadalupe" on the back. She needed to stick to the flavor of the Mariachi music and history. None of us look like we did in the late eighties but Linda could do more to liven up the show. Her personal demeanor was too reserved. Her "Canciones de Mi Padre" several years ago did that and it was great. Linda's voice is showing her age too. She missed a couple of notes and her voice broke during a couple of longer note "holds." Quite a few empty seats in the $70 areas. Would have been nice to have been shifted over to these seats before the show started.

We paid over $200 to hear Linda Ronstadt singing in ENGLISH. The entire program was in SPANISH! We don't speak Spanish. The title of the event was completely misleading. After checking postings in other cities, there are many who feel as we do. Where was the good stuff? I was so distraught that I honestly cried all the way home. What a GIGANTIC DISAPPOINTMENT! I'm not knocking anyone's culture, it's just not what we paid to see. We left before she even came on stage. We listened to an hour of her singing in Spanish before the event even started, presumably from one of her CDs they were selling in the lobby. That was it for us. Where is our old Linda!!!??? It was NOT An Evening with Linda Ronstadt.

Sadly, Linda's voice is not what it used to be. She was clearly straining to hit those notes that were distinctively hers in all her recordings. After singing two songs, she'd have to exit the stage for a couple of numbers while the Mariachi Group and Folklorico dancers performed. (Nice, but we paid to see Linda) The most impressive part of the show was the Mariachi Group, which was outstanding. Not hard to believe that they've won two Grammys.

I remember attending Linda's Canciones de Mi Padre show at the Majestic Theatre (18 years ago?) It was amazing, magical, colorful, and packed with high energy. All the voices were tuned, every move was rehearsed and flawless, every costume selected carefully. Fast forward to last night. Linda delivered her songs with the powerful voice we love and were craving to hear. She had some difficulty hitting and holding some notes and the right key. Her outfit was boring. Her energy level was very low and it appeared that she really did not want to be there. I guess this can be attributed to her illnesses. I am still glad that I went and I enjoyed the few songs she sang. The mariachis were amazing and the dancers were delightful. Linda did mention this was her last concert. I wish her well and thank her for the beautiful songs which will live on in our hearts forever.

She did not perform any of the songs made famous throughout her career, nor sing even one song in English. I checked my tickets and there was no indication on the tickets nor during the purchase process. Had I known in advance I would not have bought these tickets. I do not blame Linda for this, but, think the theater or ticket master should have made clear to the public that the concert would be appropriate for those speaking or understanding Spanish.

Linda Ronstadt can be best described as "class and talent"". She speaks and sings from the heart. She has aged with grace. When I first learned of Linda coming to Kansas City, I was very excited - she's from my era, and one of my most favorite genres, the Elextra/Asylum of the 70's... I searched and searched to find info of who was touring with her, would it be some of those great players like, Waddy, Dan, Kenny, Rick...from the old days? I could find nothing. So, fearing tickets would sell out I bought 2 on the 7th row and considered myself VERY lucky. A week or so, the concert was listed in the paper as Linda Ronstadt with Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. I was soooo upset. That was NOT the Linda Ronstadt I wanted to see, even though I share her same heritage. I did not look forward to the show and tried to get my mother to go in my place with my lady friend. She didn't feel well and declined. Rather than eat $230 worth of tickets, I went. The Mariachis opened the show and by the end of the first song, I had tears running down my cheeks. I began to connect to my heritage in a way that I have not in quite some time. I was however surprised that Linda did not appear until about 45 minutes or so into the show. It semed the energy level went down a little bit when she came on, but that was partially due to the nature of the songs but, it was STILL Linda Ronstadt. I sincerely wished that my mother could have been there as well. We had wonderful tickets, 7th row, center, and in the most beautiful theater. The Mariachis were abolutely amazing. Voices so strong and clear with phenomenal range and their harmonies were spot-on! I'm hoping to take my mother to San Diego to see this show, as it will be ON her 80th Birthday.

I've always been a fan of Linda's music past and present! She has a phenomenal voice! Unfortunately, the advertisement was somewhat misleading. Our group assumes that she would give equal time to mariachi music and English popular songs of the 70's. We were dissapointed. Our generation is very much alive and a viable audience. I'm surprised she only associates with her Mexican roots and mariachi music today and has forgotten what made her a star. Linda was a tremendous performer in the 70's and had a great following; it's ashame she has forgotten those fans too. Definitely a missed step on her part and the PR company representing her. I think this is going to be difficult for her to win those dissapointed fans back. Still love her music, but I won't pay to see her in concert again. By the way, I am a proud Latina who loves Mariachi music and Rock n Roll. Marvilla
