Suzanne Vega
In the late '80s, singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega carved a small but potent niche for herself with a relaxed, poetic brand of alt-pop. Nuanced, witty songs like \"Tom's Diner\" and \"Luka\" drew heavily on folk traditions, earning her popularity in alternative circles that she continues to enjoy today. A humble, genuine performer, Vega's soothing voice and smart songwriting will be front and center as she embarks on a 2014 tour in support of her eighth studio album Tales from the Real of the Queen of Pentacles. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:LA-born, New York-raised Suzanne Vega was a precocious young talent, beginning to write poetr.

Suzanne Vega delivered another memorable performance at Rochester, Minnesota's Presentation Hall. For a cramped and aged space, the sound and effect of Suzanne's efforts were heart-warming, as always. Her set was a well-chosen blend of songs from her 25 years of releases, though her stories between pieces shared sources from even deeper in her history. Suzanne comes off as warm, open and interested in her audience. Her cool, crisp delivery of lyrics is a treat for any longtime fan, and those seeing her for the first time.

For $75 a ticket, I would expect the headliner would play longer than the opening artist. I don't think that happened. Really disappointed.

I was SO happy to see Suzanne Vega in Albuquerque! What a great show it was. She played some classics like 'Luka', and even the remix of 'Tom's Diner' with just bass and electic guitar covering the beats and sounds. I even got my ticket stub signed by her after the show and thanked her for coming. Everyone else left almost immediately afterwards and missed her coming out, it was only like another 10min after the show she came out. Anyways, had a blast and looking forward to the next show of hers!

Suzanne is as great a singer as she was the first time I saw her nearly 20 years ago! She is an incredible guitarist as is her electric guitarist and bass player! But what I love about her the most is her creativity in song writting! The KIMO is a great place as it has really good accoustics!

Suzanne Vega played a great mix of old and new. Amazingly deep and expressive lyrics. The back story shared on some songs was fascinating. It was also educational as her newest work focuses on the great writer Carson McCullers.

It was great to see Suzanne Vega again! She played a lot of the original stuff up front, told us a lot about her new album / play and then played some from that, also. Her song descriptions were very informative.

I've known Suzanne Vega since I was a little girl and i've loved her songs. That was the first time I went to her concert. She is a great performer, funny and touching, she shared private moments with the audience and the audience was great!!!!! And the most amazing thing is that her voice hasn't changed a bit in the last 30+ years I would definitely recommend

Look, I'm old. Suzanne Vega is old. I don't know this club the Sinclair (which seemed perfectly pleasant) so I don't know GA means no seats Fine. But my ticket does say "8:00 PM". Doesn't say "Suzanne Vega and Friends". Opening act doesn't appear until after nine. We don't see Suzanne Vega until after ten. When you've paid for tickets, parking, a babysitter and your ticket says "8pm" I consider 10 to be two hours late. Artists make all their money by touring these days. They need every ticket sale they can get. Do NOT screw with a frequent concert goer.

This event felt very intimate and personal. Suzanne Vega is a true artist and folk performer. She weaves the story of her songs into her performance, peppered with humble humor and endearing quirks. If you are a fan of her work, definitely don't pass up the chance to see her preform live. It gave me an even deeper appreciation of her work.

Suzanne and Gerry Leonard (who was Bowie's lead guitarist, or at least his "musical director") put on a very emotional, sensitive, and amazing show. Suzanne has a very understated, humble way about her. Her banter with the audience was very kind and enlightened. Gerry didn't say anything, verbally, but his guitars did all of the talking. My wife, who wasn't really a fan, enjoyed the show far more than she expected. Me, on the other hand, who used to secretly listen to Suzanne's first album, and maybe even her second, well, she performed those songs to studio perfection. Don't miss her, and Gerry, if you can!

I saw Suzanne back in 1987 when Luka was on the radio. Since then I just never had the chance I guess. When I heard she'd be playing a two hour ride from my house, I jumped on it. Her voice is so pure , her intonation is just impeccable. She was performing with Gerry Leonard on electric guitar with an amazing array of effects. Her sense of humor is a great as her music. She told several stories of the inspiration behind her lyrics. I hope to see her again.

I generally enjoy Suzanne Vega's music but my major complaint about this performance was that most of the time I was unable to understand her words. Either she was too close to the mike, there was a problem with the sound system, the accompanying guitar was too loud or she was not articulating clearly. Although she has a nice manner and writes great lyrics and music, this concert just did not do it for me.

I have seen Suzanne once before many years ago when she appeared with Marshal Crenshaw. I thought that show was good. This show completely knocked my socks off. Her vocal quality, musicianship, stage presence and engagement with the audience was real and funny. It seemed at times like she was singing to me. Her songs are so visceral and poignant. She is truly a treasure for our time. Her vocals were amazing and lilting coupled with her poetic verse makes you wonder if she isn't a troubadour from another age that has come back around to remind us in a wistful, playful manner of our human triumphs and follies. This concert reminds me why I so love Suzanne Vega as a person and an artist. Here accompanying guitarist was fantastic and of course quintessentially Irish. Bravo Suzanne and Jerry!

She is original and a very talented lyrics and music composer. Her songs have actual meaning. It's a treat to hear an artist be genuine to herself and the craft. A couple constructive criticisms: I was wondering if smaller theatre would have been a wiser choice for venue to allow it to feel more intimate for the folks in the back rows. I was told she was coming out to sign CDs which is lovely but I don't know if that happened. It was late and I tired of waiting so I left. Back to the most important things: She has presence and doesn't need special lights or multiple artists. It was simply her and the electric guitarist. I believe they had the rest of the sound managed in the sound booth. Simplicity works when music is awesome. Her guitar oddly was putting an unexpected show on the walls. Light reflected from the end of the guitar and cast a sort of magical twinkling pattern of light almost like a chandelier. I'm sure she had no idea but it was beautiful

I have listened to Suzanne Vega albums for years but this was my first live concert. I asked friends to join me, noting her beautiful voice and most of all, the story-telling and poetry of her songs. I expected mostly an acoustic show. Many of her songs were drowned out by the electric guitar that accompanied her. Those songs with acoustic guitars were best. My friends all said they couldn't understand her words, which pretty much defeated the point. I had to listen to her albums again the next day to remind me why I find her music compelling, but I would hesitate to go to a show again.

Suzanne has definitely got stamina...she took no breaks, her voice was remarkable, and her story-telling added to the enjoyment. She gave a walk-down memory lane encore (Luka, Tom's Diner, Calypso, + one other) and played the guitar with energy. To top it off her collaboration with Gerry Leonard is perfect...he was EXCELLENT and they really shine together.

Vega was consistent, putting on a really great show, but this show had a few bonuses! 1. Her guitarist was amazing. I'm not someone who would generally notice this, but it was so good, and made the show that much better. 2. The venue is amazing. The Show opened with 16 year old Noah Chenfeld playing the piano and singing original songs. He was incredible! Then he went into his free-style rap and rocked the house. Suzanne sounded great! i liked the way she casually spoke to the audience, with a good rapport. i was not extremely familiar wth her history so much of that was good to know. geat voice even with a head cold; didn't seem to affect her significantly. her accompanist bothered me quite a bit. he was very talented but his volume was MUCH too loud to the point that he completely overwhelmed her voice numerous times. he played at the volume you'd use if playing with a large instrumental rock band. that was my only critisism/disappointment.

The show opened with Noah Chenfeld. This kid was amazing. His showmanship was amazing and he played the piano truly amazingly. He interacted with the crowd and just rocked our faces off. He'd had done a few covers, but I don't remember what they were. I just was enamored by the way he rocked the piano, very great piano player... Suzanne was cool too. She sang Tom's Diner and looked like a total dork, but was having fun with it. Plus her song Luca is always a fan favorite. She rocked guitar and that was cool. The night was very relaxed and chill, so that was a plus for me. She also jammed on the piano too and that was nice to see and she just flowed so effortlessly. I would recommend this show, if you have a few dollars and just want to relax and have fun.

Sitting through the opening act, Noah Chenfeld was painful. He certainly has some talent but he needs time to develop that talent. He needs to tone down pounding on the piano and wailing a tune into the microphone with no perceptible melody. We were also disappointed that there was a 30 minute intermission between Noah's act and Suzanne's start. But the Lincoln Theater is fantastic and the eclectic Suzanne Vega did not disappoint. She favored her new songs but sang all my old favorites as well. So many times performers disappoint by changing up their old favorites but with the incredible Gerry Leonard on electric guitar, the old songs were even better. And the volume was appropriate instead of trying to break my eardrums. I hope they come back soon.

I have been enchanted by Suzanne Vega's melodies and lyrics since her first break out album. I had always wanted to hear her live and in concert and am thrilled that she booked at one of our city's oldest and most beautiful theatres. It is such a memorable evening. Her music is so unique, so beautiful, emotional and intelligent. Jerry embellished on an electric guitar and his playing was superb. I would have liked it more if his volume had been turned down a little. There are so many interesting nuances in Suzanne Vega's music...in her guitar playing, her voice and lyrics...I wanted to hear every little thing.

But it was only 75 minutes long. I've never been to a concert so short. It was kind weird when she was saying goodbye at the beginning of a song, played it and then one more. She was very entertaining. I love her music and she performed it well. Maybe it was because it was a $46, pretty cheap by today's standards or maybe it was because of something personal.

My wife and I are big Suzanne Vega fans from way back. We saw her in 1990 at the Kennedy Center. We had never heard of Duncan Sheik and figured he was just the "opening band". We got there early and got a great table right up front. So it was a big disappointment to discover that this was really the Duncan Sheik show, with a few Suzanne Vega songs thrown in. She did maybe 5 songs from her albums, and 4 more from a play she wrote (DS did the music.) The show started at 7:30, and lights were on and we were out of there by 9:30.
