I remember the first time I heard, "Harlem River Drive" around 1975 and the name, "Bobbi Humphrey" associated with it, I knew it had to be a guy playing a flute with so much energy and with so much talent. I had not heard any woman play the flute in jazz before her. I was literally shocked to learn that Bobbi is a woman. I have been a fan of hers ever since first hearing her, and even though she has not frequently released new recordings, she has remained one of my favorites. Her music and personality lit up the theatre Saturday night, and she captured the audience with music from Marvin Gaye to John Coltrane. She is witty yet serious, and even though she is not the world's greatest singer (she can hold her own), the flute is her "Axe." She said she was influenced by Herbie Mann, but to me she is deeper than Mann and more willing to venture out. She reminds me of a mix of Herbie Mann AND Hubert Laws. She had a perfect trio backing her who were in tune with her and complimented her flute and style. She left the audience begging for more. The Attucks Theatre is the perfect place to enjoy jazz. The sound is so much better than any sports arena or coliseum. My wife and I are both long-time fans of Bobbi Humphrey, and seeing her at the Attucks Theatre was a great Valentine's Day date (married forty-four years).

Wow, where do I start. I grew up listening to Bobbi Humphrey and wasn't expecting anything less of her performance. This was my first time attending an event at the Attucks Theatre. I am 6'5" and my wife is approximately 5'8". We found the seating to be a little cozy excluding the layers of clothing we had on due to the weather. The opening performance was outstanding and very entertaining. During intermission, the wife and I stepped out for some refreshment and return to the sounds of Ms. Humphrey's band. After a small set, she was introduced by Mr. Jay Lang. Ms. Humphrey came out grooving to the music before she jumped in. She performed approximately 2 mins tops to the song. The following songs, she averaged about 2 mins. of playing time. Those that were around me, including myself, seemed to be more entertained by her drummer. He, in my opinion, carried the night's performance. I thank that Ms. Humphrey has outlived her performance. My wife was very disappointed and I was glad that I had taken advantage of the 2 for 1 offer.

The opening band was the best part. Bobbi Humphrey appeared intoxicated to me. She played little, her band played more while she sat on the bandstand to try and collect herself, it didn't work. I spent well over $225.00 and I, my wife and my friends were sorely disappointed. I believe that I am due a refund of at least half my money. As she stumbled around the stage I could only think,"Bobbi" you're making yourself look real bad. Hair in an unkempt fashion. I was very, very disappointed. I expect to hear from you. Sincerely, Kenneth R Newton Sr

She talked more than she played. Her band came out and did three pop songs before she hit the stage. If you are going to have your band precede you, at least have them perform the music that made your career. Which brings me to another point: We did not hear any of her signature music from her golden era. We, as well as others, walked out before the end. She actually played the flute for less than 10 minutes.

Where do I start. First off, I have nothing but respect for Bobbi. I blame the people around her for this terrible show. Nothing went right that I could see. She didn't even come out until the 4th song into the set. Huh. Her flute worked then it didn't. The sound was horrible. She is not a singer! Her outfit that she was wearing looked like it belonged on a teen-ager with a wonderful body. Her body was not! Fire you manager!

Her performance was so disappointing. Don't expect the talent you remembered.

The venue was fine, the music was even better. Bobbi Humphrey still puts on a fantastic show. Her band could have been an additional group they were so good

I was kinda of disappointed she did not play any of her music that i remember her recording(i.e) satin doll remix of harlemdrive. Featured her band mostly especially the keyboardist. I enjoy the opening band Forte. Overall the concert was enjoyable.
