Chon

CHON IN CONCERT:Prog rockers Chon marry impressive musicianship to bouncy grooves, promising ticket buyers a live-wire concert experience that's both exciting and intriguingly heady. Six-string shredders Erick Hansel and Mario Camarena take a dizzying tag team approach to their guitars, winding through intricate melodies and jazzy harmonies on standouts like ìDewî, ìFluffyî, and ìBubble Dreamî. Mesmerized ticket buyers canít help but sway in time with the groupís nimble rhythm section, whose booming back beats and complex polyrhythms provide a syncopated backdrop for each instrumental. As Chon pushes the boundaries of prog rock, audiences get to witness guitar virtuosity, creative rhythms, and beautiful harmonies that are just as capable of blowing minds as they are of getting bodies grooving.

I was hyped up for this show for over a month and it did not disappoint. Tricot was by far my favorite set, but there set was too short. It was not even 30 minutes long. Up next was TTNG and they played very tight, but didn't really play some of the songs I would have hoped for. Still a great set. Polyphia was a surprise. I was expecting to be kind of disappointed, but they worked the crowd really well and got everyone moshing. Chon had their set at the end, and played everything I wanted to hear and more. Unfortunately, I was a little underwhelmed by their performance. They played kind of loose and messed up a couple times too many, but I don't hold it against them. Also, when they played "Can't Wait", the one who sang it obviously wasn't really a professional singer. It makes sense, since the original singer of the song is no longer in the band. The whole crowd was singing along anyway, so it was perfectly fine. I wish Chon had perfomed a little bit better, but it was a great concert over all.

Having listened to Chon numerous times and watched a bunch of their videos, I knew I was in for some high quality music, but they straight up blew me away. Even the openers, strawberry girls and polyphia, brought as much musical force as did Chon. will not be missing another chon or polyphia show again!

Chon was amazing as always! The venue was pretty cool, a little fancier than I expected. They also had an opening act (Post Junction, I believe) and he was great. Overall, a 5 star night :)
