The Naked and Famous

The Naked and Famous

When several hit TV programs like The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and Grey’s Anatomy featured the Naked and Famous’ catchy-as-heck music, the buzz surrounding this New Zealand indie rock outfit became uncontainable, spreading to Great Britain, Europe, the U.S. and Asia. Fans couldn’t get enough of the anthemic, synthpop gems “Punching in a Dream,” “Young Blood,” “Girls Like You” and “Hearts Like Ours,” creating demand for Naked & Famous tickets around the globe.

TNAF are always an amazing show but the stripped down intimate show was something special! I will never forget it!

They make wonderful music and I'm certain they practice a lot to stay sharp. They very much care for their fans. They would not stay after the show to sign autographs and pose for a thousand pictures if they didn't. If you have not heard their music you need to listen now, if you have then you must see them live. All around unforgettable experience.

I've been to the Fox a few times and have loved the venue every single time. The seats in the front rows of the Mezzanine level were roomy, comfortable and the view was fantastic! I have not seen the N&F live and they are even more amazing live, I didn't even know that is possible. If you like N&F, you MUST see them live when they come into your town!

Almost got lost trying avoid traffic on the way over but totally worth it! They were amazing and the lighting and everythiing was beautiful :D I can't stop listening to them! The 2 bands before them were really good too: white arrows and the chaingang of 1974 (I loved that guys little dance!) I recommend everyone to go see the naked and famous!

The venue was beautiful, even the bathrooms. I got there right when White Arrows started and was easily able to get pretty close to the stage. I had never heard of either White Arrows or ChainGang of 1974 before this concert and I really liked them, especially White Arrows. The Naked and Famous were awesome. They played every song my friend and I like and they have a great stage presence. Overall, it was a great concert!

This show was SOLD OUT. people were outside trying to buy tickets. Opening acts were better than good. I thought people were saving their energy for TNAF but when the show started and with a few cheers, the crowd was very DISAPPOINTING. Being an Angelino, born and raised, I am really ashamed of the crowds' vibe. I prefer to sit up stairs to watch the crowd get into the show. But not this show. I admit i just caught on to the band and was upset that I didn't hear about them earlier. TNAF sounded great! cant knock them on not one thing. I am looking forward to their show in Santa Ana

The Naked and Famous were fabulous, as always. The openers, White Arrows and The Chain Gang of 1974 totally rocked, and exceeded my expectation!! They were a blast to watch and put on a great show! I would hesitate to recommend seeing most "alternative" acts live if you haven't heard the recording a few times and know what to listen for in the usually muddy, often sloppy real-life version. But The Naked and Famous are just as tight and polished live as they are coming out of your iPod, only with a better sound system and surrounded by a thousand-odd fans. At the same time they mixed it up enough to keep it interesting and seemed genuinely thrilled to be performing, even in the midst of what has to be a pretty grueling tour.

Great show by The Naked and Famous. This was my fourth time seeing them in L.A. this year and they get better and better every time. In that short period they have gone from carrying their own equipment at Bardot, with awkward onstage presence, to full on rock stars at the Music Box. If you haven't had a chance to catch them yet i highly recommend seeing them in october when they come back to the Music Box

A high-energy, fun show, but the feedback was too loud, and the singers lack chemistry. (Disclaimer: I'm in my mid-thirties, so I'm older than the typical TNAS fan. All the teens in the audience were going crazy.)

I must say, I consider myself one of TNAF's biggest fans. Their music was undoubtedly the turning point in my conversion from mainstream to alternative rock music. This is my third time seeing them live, and I really cannot overstate how awesome this show was. The choice of venue was fantastic: Music Hall of Williamsburg is tiny, which is amazing, since it only provides enough space for true fans in a rather intimate setting (with reasonable alcohol prices too!) The opening band, The Rubens, were one of the best opening bands I have ever seen. They acknowledged their obscurity but boy, were they fantastic! They had the energy and enthusiasm to keep the crowd engaged right up till TNAF took the stage! And that's when the magic began! Most of the music was familiar to fans, from Passive me, aggressive you and In rolling waves. They also played a new song and put a cool spin some classics. Crowd engagement was fantastic; the rain outside didn't dampen the spirits of the fans inside! Most songs had the whole floor shaking. In short, it was a rainy Monday night..there was any reason to not go..but I am SO happy I went and can not wait for TNAF to being another tour! Kudos to The Rubens also, and best of luck to them getting themselves out there!

it was my first time seeing Naked and the Famous and going to the sinclair in cambridge not a bad place and venue to see a show a little smaller than House of Blues because I was a first timer and newcomer to the Naked and Famous chose to see the show from one of the mezzazines had a perfect view for once no peoples heads getting in my way I also met someone at the show we hung out together nice person the floor and the house belonged to the college students and fans who were younger they owned that house I was a guest meaning never having seen Naked and Famous thats also why I didn't choose to stand on the GA floor when i've seen this group after a while than I'll become one of them I would go see them again and also recommend anyone I know seeing one of their shows I'd also go see another show at that venue thats my first Naked and Famous show review

Opening bands had trouble getting people going. The Naked and Famous were into the music. I am not sure if it was the sound guy but their sound was not as crisp. I have heard plenty of bands at the national and never had trouble with over reverb. That is the most deaf I have ever left a concert and I don't mind loud music. The lights were very cool. The strobe was blinding the front row.

Firstly, I love The Naked and Famous and I will continue to listen to all their recorded works. However this concert was terrible! You couldn't understand what she was saying/singing at all. I know the lyrics and still struggled. I took a friend who hadn't heard this band before but I thought she would love them. I was embarrassed and felt bad for taking up my friends time. I don't know if it was a mic issue or what, but I would never see them live again.

When we first arrived at the venue, the line was out the door. We stood in the rain for just a few minutes, but after that, we got in and got to stand up in one of the balcony's right next to the stage. The two opening acts; I am speechless. They were PHENOMENAL. Strange Babes delivered a consistent performance and a great spice of music. White Sea was extraordinary, with haunting vocals that were delivered in such a fantastic way, it blew my mind. Naked and Famous were, of course, freaking amazing. I had so much fun at the show.

Arrived 15 min before the show started, and there was no line and getting in was quick and hassle free. We made our way to the floor and It was probably about a quarter full with people attempting to reach the front. We felt it was unnecessary for us to order drinks at the bars since there were many waitresses taking orders right on the floor. Drinks were priced high at $7 a beer. NO came on and played a short set lasting about 40 min. They're an LA band and the music they played was pretty mellow (nothing I'd personally go home and research after). The Colourist were pretty cool, they had a great female drummer who had everyone around me talking. They were upbeat and got the crowd going. The Naked and Famous came on at around 9:30pm and opened with one of their new tracks, second came the crowd pleasing, Hearts like ours. By about 10pm the floor was packed with fans singing along and dancing ending with their hit Young Blood at around 11:00pm. It's always worth it to see a sold out show here as the venue is really stunning. If you really want to just hear the music or to rest your legs during the show, I'd suggest getting assigned seats upstairs, as I think the sound is a little muffled on the floor.

This was the fourth time in the last few years I've seen #TNAF. They have gotten better every time I've been. Sine this was the last announced show on this tour I expected the show to be tight and they did not disappoint. I'm sure the band may have things they missed, but as far as I'm concerned this was a near perfect performance of their growing music catalog. If you haven't been to a show, you should add them to your list. Needless to say they are on my list of bands to see whenever I can work it out. Seats: At the Fox I prefer the reserved balcony. You are close enough to see clearly, sound is excellent. If you are short I would avoid Row A as the railing will interfere with your view.

The two openers, No and The Colourist were fantastic. Similar genre of music. The leader singer of No sounds simliar to lead singers from The National and Crash Test Dummies. The Colourist was interesting to me because their drummer/co-lead singer was female (unique in my experience). The opening acts sounds was fantastic and right on. The Naked and Famous often do short shows, this was no exception (an hour or so); kind of disappointing, but only because I love them. Alisa's voice was drowned out quite a bit from the sound system being tinny (the openers were not tinny). I will have to say the strobe lighting gave many of us a headache. Too much, too intense, too direct in our face (we sat in the upper levels). They played their greatest hits from the first album and a lot of their second. Was an energetic show with a fantastic, enuthiastic audience. I would certainly see them anytime. The Fox theatre is an amazing venue. Old school, very comfortable, great neighborhood for before/after dinner, drinks, etc.

First, the venue. The Blvd Pool sits atop the fourth floor of the Cosmo on the Strip side. It's open air, which is great for the near perfect Vegas October evening temps, and provides some nice views of the near-Strip area and properties . There are several knee-deep pools that were open, but the main, ankle-deep pool was drained, providing the audience with a large dry area to enjoy the show. My only, tiny complaint is that the area between the stage and audience seems a little too large. Actually, this isn't a complaint at all, rather just a personal opinion, and doesn't hinder a show at all. Now to the band. They were fantastic! For a working band that has to travel a lot, they were full of energy. They seemed like genuinely nice people who cared about the audience, and where extremely engaging with them. With a brand new album out, the band did a good job of mixing in new songs with older favorites, as opposed to just trying to cram the new stuff into the set. All-in-all it was a great show; I wished it went on longer.

I've seen a lot of shows this year including many music festivals and I would have to rank this event in the top 2 shows of the year and one of the best performances I have ever seen in my life! These New Zealanders know how to put on a show! The lights alone were unlike anything I've ever seen. Combine that with the music and you have a truly amazing experience. I thought this was going to be a "mellow" show after listening to their new album but I WAS WRONG. The album does no justice to the music and you really have to see them live to experience it yourself. The performance was not what I expected and it was a pleasant surprise to say the least.

Ah, the Naked and Famous five kids with cute accents from New Zealand playing 80s influenced, edgy yet danceable synth-pop. The concept alone is enough to grab my attention, but their ace-in-the-hole, ultimately winning me over as an embarrassingly gushing fan, is primary vocalist, lyricist, and one of four keyboard players, Alisa Xayalith. On the last leg of the tour supporting their debut album, I finally caught my favorite brainy Asian chick and her band mates who managed to sell out the spacious Terminal 5 venue in Hell s Kitchen last Wednesday night. I obviously love the Naked and Famous, and the electrified crowd heightened the chill atmosphere, so I was fully prepared to enjoy the concert and did immensely. The show basically consisted of the band performing its debut, Passive Me, Aggressive You, in its entirety and whatever else it could scrape together to complete a nearly two-hour set. Everybody in the house was familiar with the dance-friendly singles from the release ( Young Blood, Punching in a Dream, Girls Like You, and All of This ), which when played incited a scene akin to an all-night German rave on ecstasy. The moments when the band turned to their less accessible music and relatively unknown cuts to fill out the set, however, raised the overall performance from better than average to pleasantly exceeding my expectations. In addition to hearing young, radio-friendly pop bands perform their singles live, I enjoy seeing how they manage their lesser known cuts, B-sides, and songs yet to progress through the studio recording process. Having more than ninety minutes to fill up and only a fifty minute album in its holster, Xayalith and her crew had to rely on the less popular tunes from their debut and dip into the cache of relatively and completely unknown material. For me, what tipped the scales in making this a tremendous show was what they accomplished live with the less interesting moments from Passive Me, Aggressive You. I like this album a lot, but there are instances where some ostensibly good ideas are left incomplete. The cut No Way, for example becomes entangled in an overly repetitive chorus, and the absurdly titled Wolf in Geek s Clothing, although the hardest rocker Naked and Famous has recorded, sounds like an underdeveloped outtake by The Joy Formidable. These tunes and a couple of other lesser-knowns appeared about mid-way into the show when the band risked losing the attention of the audience. It was at this point while performing the three album cuts No Way, Jilted Lovers, and Wolf in Geek s Clothing when the Naked and Famous transformed itself from a distractingly cute 80s flashback to a bona fide rock band. All of these tunes were performed with energy and creativity (the bridge after the repetition in No Way reimagined the tune from an intriguing interlude to full blown concept), but the highlight of the show was the performance of Wolf in Geek s Clothing. This interpretation of my least favorite song on the album aired out the number several minutes past its three minute mark to fill the dead spaces of its tired rock riff with a wall of sound that literally blew the roof off the house. So what if the encore number, the hit Young Blood, was reduced to a silly sing-a-long, and the band members giddiness at selling out one of the top venues in NYC was bit too sentimental (at one point Xayalith referred to the evening as surreal, and guitarist Aaron Short remarked that just two years ago they were writing these songs in their bedrooms in New Zealand). Watching a great young band transform itself from a poppy singles machine to artists crafting interesting ideas into great rock songs for a few moments on stage produced a highly entertaining evening of live music.

This is the second time I've seen TNAF (The Naked & Famous) and both times I feel like I got my money's worth. They are a young band, but they play like they've been together longer than the 3+ years they've been together. I admit their sound is a bit of an acquired taste, but I love it even though they don't sound like many of the artists I love. Their ability to do a loud song then follow it with a more quiet one seamlessly is impressive and fun to listen too. I look forward to seeing how these 4 guy and their energetic & talented front-woman develop in the coming years. All-in-all I recommend them to anyone who likes to see a diverse sounding band with a bright future.

I must have missed the info about it being an unplugged show. It was a real yawner.

Show was delayed for an hour or so due to technical difficulties, but they more than made up for it with a fantastic stripped down concert of some of their hits. Well worth the wait. Loved the venue. Small and compact, which is perfect for this kind of concert. Sound and acoustics were great. Got to do the meet and greet. Everyone was so cool and friendly.

I have seen TNAF twice, once several years ago at the Fillmore, and this show at the Underground. The first show was great, one of the best I've seen, but this show, in the smaller, more intimate venue, was even better. TNAF are consummate entertainers--they are obviously having a blast, so the audience has a blast, too.

They could have been great if we could only hear what they were singing. Multiple people in the crowd were commenting on not being able to hear... they definitely should have checked it before the show. Very disappointing.

TNAF continues to be a FANTASTIC band to see live. This was the second time I've seen them (the first in this venue). The opening acts... on the other hand... left something to be desired. I think the first act (female lead singer) actually does have potential, but a lot of the songs were very off-key. However, there were a couple where she was REALLY strong. The second opening act was... better-suited to open for a different band (perhaps death-metal). Perhaps people who enjoy that genre would have a better gauge on their "talent"... but most of the people in the crowd there for TNAF (other than the small moshpit formed upfront) found it generally offensive to our ears.

Sounded just as good as when I saw them at The Independent a few years ago. The sound at the The Fox can be hit or miss sometimes, but The Naked and Famous sounded fantastic.

I saw the Naked and Famous 3 years ago in Vancouver. They have polished their live performance since then. The set list was a good representation of the previous albums and the newest one, Simpke Forms. I got to meet the band before the show with the meet and greet VIP ticket. I plan to see he band again in a few days at the Goldn 1 Center in Sacramento

The Naked and Famous sounded great live, and the show was very exciting. The lights were used in a way that created impressive effects. We were definitely glad to see them live, since it was a fun and energetic event. The band has a lot of great hits, and they are terrific musicians.

TNAF puts on yet another great show! This is the second time I've been to their show. First was for the tour kicking off Rolling waves. Before the show, i was a bit nervous because I liked the new album but didn't "love" it. But they put on an amazing show, it was upbeat, the set list was put together with thoughts, and the crowd was with in the whole time even with the new music. I love going to live shows because it completely changes the album. Sooooo good. Great performers! Go see them!

this group is one of my favorites! They really sound great live and have a great show. Great mixture of thier best songs and had some surprise arrangements that were a welcome addition to some of the older songs. They will make you a fan if you aren't already!

The show could be amazing if the sound technicians knew what they were doing. The sound was terrible, vocals too high and no guitar. A complete shame!

The Naked and Famous are always amazing live. This is my 3rd show, and I fall in love every time! They played Rotten from the new album for the encore but changed a bit. Usually I do not like it when bands changes songs, but this version was absolutely ethereal. Fantastic job.

First band and Naked and Famous were great. Should have eliminated XYLO from their tour. Hammerstein is great but if you are standing four plus hours is way too long.

The reason we all went to the Naked and Famous concert is because we love their music, and we expected it to sound even more awesome live. And it was, but they could have done better. The songs that we came to see, like All Of This, Punching in a Dream, and the encore Young Blood were everything we hoped they would be, well-executed, and the made it worth going to the concert as a whole. What made me not as excited was some of their new songs. They just released a new album so obviously wanted to showcase the new material. Before the show I listened to it, and thought that a lot of the songs were much slower than their previous albums, and I hoped they either didn't play them or would find a way to make it more upbeat and enjoyable live, since that is the type of of music they're known for and why we all bought tickets. However, there were a few sections where the songs like blended together in one long, slow melody. It was obvious that the crowd was not enthralled as they began talking and didn't cheer when the part was over. Thom said "Thank you" loudly into the mic, then a few seconds later asked if we were still with them. I found it a bit off putting, like he was blaming us for not being attuned to their slow songs, when they are the performer who has the responsibility to entertain. Later in the show at 2 separate times, he and Alisa asked if they could play another new song, acknowledging that we weren't enthralled by their previous new ones. Naked and Famous fans like them for their original music, and while it's great when bands evolve their style, you can't play the songs that change the entire tune of your band at a concert where fans are expecting more upbeat material. I also was surprised that Thom and Alisa were the only people we really saw on stage. The other 3 members were visible, but really played no part in the show itself, they were just musicians in the background. They're all very talented, so I would have liked to see them all incorporated into the show more (especially because I have a small crush on Jesse and barely got to see his face).

The Naked and Famous played a nice variety of songs from the their two full length albums. They played their songs well and had a very full sounds. The visuals and energy were pretty lacking though. The crowd didn't help much. I was on the the floor probably 50 feet from the stage and surrounded by people talking through the show. TNAF put on a very dynamic show and I the crowd conversation was overwhelming during the softer parts ... not the performers fault I guess.

Naked and Famous put on an incredible show!!! From the strong vocals, solid instrumentals, and beat-following lights, the high energy never fell throughout the entire set! Terminal 5 offered a great atmosphere and the staff members were awesome. I highly recommend checking out both the Naked and Famous as well as Terminal 5 for future events!

I love Naked & Famous, but their latest album didn't woo me, which I think is part of the reason why I didn't enjoy this concert as much as I had hoped. I saw them last year at T5, the concert was a lot more upbeat and energetic. I found this concert has ebbed and flowed with upbeat energy from both the band and the audience. The start time was also deceiving, given concerts rarely ever start on time, I got here at 9PM (ticket said they went on at 8PM), and the concert was already half way over. Overall disappointed, debatable if I would buy tickets to see them again.
