It was a surprise birthday present for my girlfriend. She was the one that actually introduced me to This is Spinal Tap the movie and being a heavy metal fan, it was probably the most hilarious thing I had ever experienced!!. It was a special treat to see the team of Guest, McKeon, and Shearer live and up close. My girlfriend is also a Waiting for Guffman fan so the Red, White, and Blaine references were greatly appreciated. Never knew how talented they really are. Superb performance!

If you were expecting a raucous Spinal Tap concert, you should have read the title of the event. If you were expecting a session of MTV's Unplugged featuring Spinal Tap, you wouldv'e enjoyed it. They played many of Tap's "hits", including "Big Bottom", "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" and others. Special guest, Elvis Costello, joined them for "Listen to the Flower People". They also played songs from "A Mighty Wind", including "E At Oes". If "Best in Show" had any music, they wouldv'e probably played that too. All in all, it was fun, subdued, but fun.

They were one of the best groups that I have seen in a long time. They were affable and friendly with the crowd. They were conversational in tone, but when they sang and played, they were spot on. My favorite parts were the DVD clips of people covering their music, as well as when Annette O'Toole came out and sang with them. The interesting thing is that I came to see Spinal Tap, but I enjoyed all of "The Mighty Wind" music just as well. My fifteen year old son came with me and said that he would have to rearrange the order of the top five concerts that he has previously seen to make room for Unwigged and Unplugged. That grouping of previous concerts included ACDC, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, The Police, etc...you get the idea. We found that the venue the Fox Theatre was perfect for this incarnation of the group, and there was not a bad seat in the house. Fantastic show! Well worth the money!

As a Taphead, I was skeptical about how good this Unwigged & Unplugged concert would be, but I found myself captivated throughout the show. When you get down to it, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer are talented and skilled musicians and songwriters. On top of that, they are witty and charming, some of the funniest comedians ever. I enjoyed the Folksmen songs I've never heard before, and relished in the Tap songs I have heard before rearranged for acoustic. It was a good mix of "classic" and "new" stuff. And the setlist was long, from the classy, jazzy Broadway rendition of "Big Bottom" to the mind/ear-blowing "Heavy Duty." I especially loved hearing Michael McKean and Annette O'Toole's rendition of their song "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow." Beautiful. We were also privileged to see Elvis Costello's featured performance on "Gimme My Money." How cool was that!

This was a fantastic show. We had seen the amped up Spinal Tap show before but this was even better! Blending the acoustic with the friendly and funny banter made it warm, personable and extremely funny. The side bits (especially the piece on censorship) were hysterical. Even the Q&A was funny. A very rich and textured epxerience all around.

My husband and I thought this show was great. Being huge fans of these three talented gentlemen, we had high expectations of the night's performance. We were not dissappointed. They were warm, engaging and of course, very funny. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer have a wonderful chemistry together. In between their songs, the storytelling and one liners kept me smiling. We were in for a huge surprise when Elvis Costello came on stage to sing a song. The group showed clips from the different movies and music videos created by fans for their hilarious songs. The only portion of the show that didn't jive well was the Q&A with the audience. No one could seem to come up with interesting, funny or intelligent questions. The guys did their best with what they were given, for the most part. Loved the 3 D glasses!

I thoroughly enjoyed Unwigged & Unplugged. The music, the dialog, and the visuals were great. Harry, Michael, and Christopher seemed to love what they were doing which was conveyed in their music. The funny visuals added depth to the performance. Michael was most impressive as he kept the audience engaged. His wife was an added bonus. She has a great voice.

This show was phenomenal! Chris Guest, Mike McKean, Harry Shearer were fun and very entertaining! It was a great mix of Spinal Tap and Folksmen songs, as well as some other gems from Chris Guest movies thrown in. (Penny for Your Thoughts being one of them!) The music was great, the commentary was great, there were moments that were very hilarious. I was a bit surprised by how soft-spoken Chris Guest was during the show. Mike & Harry did most of the talking. Which was fine, I was just a bit curious why Chris didn't say more. He did even seem a bit sudued in his performance. Not that it detracted...the whole show was loads of fun!

Spinal Tap unwigged and unplgged was a trip down memory lane. Over time it's easy to forget how talented these guys really are. FIne musicians. Whether as Spinal Tap or as the Folkmen. I also enjoyed the audio visual display (Stonehenge) and the stories in between sets. There were some great quotes... "We're not that environmentally conscious, but we've heard of global warming." Nigel thought it was just because he was wearing too much clothing andif he just took his jacket off it would be cooler. "I (Derek Smalls) was in rehab for being addicted to the Internet." I would highly reccomend the show

I had not been to one of their concerts before, but knew they had toured as the mockumentary band Spinal Tap. Knowing their body of work pretty well I expected the event to be more than just music. I was expecting it to be a mixture of comedy and music. It was too heavy on the latter for me. While I thought Spinal Tap was VERY funny and even attempted to make a version of my own with friends in high school with dad's video camera years and years ago, I think that to tour doing just the music misses the spirit of the movie in my mind. I felt the movie was funny not just for the lyrics and the garb, but also for the wry wit that surrounded it and all their subsequent movies. Given that this was billed as "Unwigged" and "Unplugged" I thought this would be a little more wit and a little less wig. On the plus side, I did learn from an audience question that Harry is one of few people to see Jerry Lewis' unreleased Nazi Clown drama from the 1960s. Sheesh. Wonder what a copy of that is worth!

this was a great show! we really enjoyed it. even though we had kinda far back seats we still had a great view of the stage. The guys sounded great, I loved hearing all the hits "unplugged". they played songs from all their movies and harry shearer did a few that he wrote on his own. they told some good stories along the way, very entertaining. Annette o'toole made an appearance, so that was pretty great too. Loved the stonehenge bit. only complaint was the venue--the chicago theater--it was very beautiful and lovely but they made me throw out my water bottle and charged $4 for these tiny aquafina bottles inside. great show though.

McKean, Guest and Shearer awesomely, lovingly and hysterically played acoustic versions of classics from every band they've played as. There were wonderful re-arrangements of many well-loved "hits," "Hell Hole" was definitely the sweetest, in my opinion. Love them, feel them, see them live -- you won't be disappointed!

I have been a big fan of Christopher Guest for a long time and own his DVDs. Several months ago I googled his name hoping for an announcement of a new movie from him. I stumbled across the U&U show and ordered tickets immediately. My husband and I LOVED the show. They are all so talented and genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. I would definitely recommend this show.

As a long-time Spinal Tap fan who has never gotten to see them on any of their very sporadic tours, I knew I wasn't going to miss this one. The three main minds behind one of the funniest films ever, and collaborators in several other tremendous films, these men are comic geniuses, every one. On top of that, they are also excellent songwriters and musicians. Particularly impressive was Harry Shearer on stand-up electric bass; the guitar itself was a thing of beauty, and Shearer played it with true mastery - not just some comedian playing at being a musician. I can't mention the musicianship without noting Christopher Guest's stirring (is that the right word?) Didgeridoo solo and his air trumpet, which nearly brought down the house. The show was advertised as being some Spinal Tap songs, but also songs from "A Mighty Wind" and "Waiting For Guffman," and so it was. A top-notch selection of songs, with inter-song banter that I couldn't do justice by quoting, so suffice it to say it was very very humorous. Some old video clips of the earliest Tap performance and some fan-made videos kept the show lively - you haven't lived until you've seen LEGO Tap. Bottom line, my friend and I went to see the second night of the show, and on our way out, we both agreed that we wished we'd seen the first night - so we could go home and buy tickets for the second. Awesome. Now if only I had thought of my excellent question *before* the Q&A session in the middle of the set!

On a scale of 1 - 10, this was an eleven! From Spinal Tap to The Folksmen to "Red,White and Blaine" and more...these guys are just amazing musicians, songwriters and performers! The big surprise is that you never know who will show up with them - we saw Elvis Costello,Suzzy Roche, Annette O'Toole and my favorite was the jazz version of "Big Bottom"! What a great night...for heavy metal fans, folk music fans and movie fans.

It's been 25 years since these guys got together as Spinal Tap. During the past 25 years the team of McKean, Guest, and Shearer have parodied British Invasion rockers, & mid 60's folkies, but nothing close to the genuine musical talent these gentlemen displayed at the Chicago theatre. I saw Spinal Tap live in Chicago, at the Riviera theatre, must have been 16 or 17 years ago now, and it was a hilarious concert. It brought all the prat-falls and sight jokes of the mockumentary for which Spinal Tap earned it's fame. It was shear entertainment. Unwigged & Unplugged surpassed the entertainment factor of Spinal Tap. Even if you've never heard of Spinal Tap, this show would entertain you on it's musical prowess alone. Of course, there's really no substitute for "Hell Hole" played acoustically. Awesome show!

Loved it. This show definitely exceeded even my own grandiose expectations. I had no idea so much talent could be packed into three men. These guys go from folk to comedy to rock to deadpan back to rock, effortlessly. Loved the interspersed vid clips as well. Gave the show a bit more of a personable feel - like they were letting us all in on a personal joke. Before the show, I thought maybe it would have been cool for them to be in complete Spinal Tap garb, but I actually preferred seeing them in their everyday clothes. Really allowed their musical talents to shine, without showcasing the one movie's characters that some of the audience desperately still want them to be. Judging by the Q&A session, there are still fans out there who think they are Nigel, Derek and David. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

We have followed this trio both collectively and individally for many years. In particular, we are great fans of Christopher Guest and his amazing ability to create humor that is right on target with so many interesting topics in the mocumentary format. We were so enamored of Waiting for Guffman that we traveled to Lockhart, Texas where the movie was filmed and walked the steps to Corky St. Clair's apartment. We are also great fans of Spinal Tap so when we had the opportunity to see the Unwigged & Unplugged show, we couldn't wait. By the way, their work is cross-generational in our family and is enjoyed by boomers and gen Xers equally. The show exceeded our expectations. The muscial abilities combined with each member's writing, timing and humor was a joy to be a part of. We hope that they continue their collaboration and can t wait to see the next performance.

This show lived up to it's preview....like listening to a few friends jam in their basement studio! The question and answer session was priceless, especially since many audience members couldn't separate Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer from Nigel, David, and Derek! Music ranged from Rock, Folk, and Jazz, and the different versions of many of the songs, some from the movies, some from others (Rolling Stones), showed that these guys can really play!

Michael McKean, Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest's Beacon Theatre concert proved not only that they are outstanding comic performers, but are talented musicians in their own rite. Jamming with the likes of a performer such as Elvis Costello, who does not suffer fools gladly, is a testimony to their musicianship. Their tight harmony on the variety of musical styles that they effortlessly mimic and skewer (eg.g. Country, Folk, Heavy Metal and Pop Rock) is amazing to hear and fun to watch. I had a smile on my face from start to finish for Unwigged & Unplugged. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

How could the greatest fake rock band be bad? They can't. The trio performed hits from Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind, and Waiting for Guffman and believe me, it was a night to remember. While there were a few misses, the 2+ hour show was basically brilliant. "Hell Hole", "Stonehedge", "Never did no Wanderin" and a interesting version of "Sex Farm" featuring a mini rap in the middle left me smiling. Not to mention the visuals the group used including dancing troll dolls being moved around a mini stonehedge on a rope. Hilarious, and the music was great too.

Was it Spinal Tap, the Folksmen or three musicians with guitars and microphones? I'd have to say a little bit of all of the above. I have seen both Spinal Tap and the Folksmen in concert and I have to say this stripped down version of the boys was really fun. They played all our favorite Spinal Tap and Folksmen tunes plus a whole bunch of new tunes to boot. There were video clips, lots of fun banter and a handful of guest stars throughout the night as well. The boys even did a question and answer session with the audience. If Harry, Christopher and Michael bring this show back to my neck of the woods I will definitely shell out some more cash to see them again. Don't miss out on the event of 2009!

It was so much fun! A hilarious, and unforgettable night with comic and musical geniuses. Guest, McKean, and Scherer are big medicine. They have incredible wit, and had the packed Chicago Theatre in the palm of their hand, interacting with the crowd at times and taking everyone on a voyage of the hilarious trio's past musical achievements featured in the well-known Waiting for Guffman, Mighty Wind, and Spinal Tap. From top to bottom it was impressive musically, artistically, comedically, and technically and they kept our eyes glued to the stage, featuring their own wives in song and dance, showing fan-submitted music videos to Spinal Tap anthems and inviting a lucky guy in the crowd up to watch them up-close in 3D...which was hilarious. They also featured an incredible pianist who added a great deal of body to the already musically rich and catchy songs of Tap, the Folksmen, and others...What was especially impressive was that they were all so polished on each instrument they picked up and the vocals were magnifico.

It was everything I imagined it would be, like a reunion evening in one's living room. Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer are flat-out wonderful musicians and extremely charming & entertaining hosts.

The show had some great comedic moments, funny stories and jokes. The music was good however, they needed an Electric Band playing with them for the Spinal Tap songs. The songs from Mighty Wind were performed well because they were written originally as Acoustic pieces. Overall I had fun and walked out feeling good.

If you expect to see Spinal Tap you won't. What you will see is the band in jeans and sport coats playing acoustic versions of their music not only from the epic Spinal Tap movie but other movies they have collaborated on. This is not a Heavy Metal show with meat head antics but rather a folk music show. The sound system was very good and the show is very well rehearsed and has value but it just didn't cut the mustard for some one expecting see some part of the movie reprized. If I had been seated on the isle I would have left early.

It certainly helps to be a big fan of Spinal Tap and A Might Wind, but even without that, these guys are funny and super talented. I highly recommend.

The concert lived up to my expectations in that all of the old Spinal Tap favorites were covered, as well as some from the Mighty Wind (which was not my favorite).

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer gave the fans what they wanted - a rambling road trip through all their musical words, from A Mighty Wind to Spinal Tap, with stops along the way for interesting film clips and anecdotes.

We had a great time at this concert even though the seats were further away than I had thought they would be. We were not disappointed. The spinal tap crew gave 100% to the concert. The Chicago audience was fun too!

For those of us (i.e. the majority of the crowd) expecting to see Spinal Tap in their original getup might have felt somewhat misled. Granted the clue is in the title of the show (Unwigged & Unplugged) however this obvious disclaimer does not mask the fact that without the elaborate spandex costumes donned in the eponymous Rockumentary classic, Christopher Guest and his band of unlikely "lads" are merely "Granddads in Gap" holding guitars and reminiscing about days gone by. The highlight of the show was the screening of rare and unseen footage from earlier collaborations between band members - a tradition reserved for DVD reissues and not multi-city arena tours.

I went with my Boyfriend just because he knew all about it. Not being familar with Spinal Tap I did not know what to expect. The evening was both funny and entertaining. The audience was so into the concert. I felt like I was in with the groupies. After the performance I left wanting more so the next day I went to get Spinal Tap the movie. I highly reccomend this concect if it is coming to your town.

I knew those guys are extraordinarily funny, but I didn't know they were such good musicians. That became quite clear in the unplugged format. And, of course, the appearance by Elvis was the icing on the cake.

I took my best friend to this show as a belated 40th birthday present! I do not regret this decision. The event was both nostalgic and current....familiar and fresh. The guys are very funny, very youthful and very talented. What musicians and raconteurs! I loved the supporting cast as well. The fact that Elvis Costello joined in for a song was just a brilliant bonus! Loved it! Go! Enjoy!

Couldn't get over how the 3 individuals on the stage never merged into a group. I got the sense that no one likes each other in the least. They never even looked at each other. The song list made neither rhyme nor reason - jumping around from Spinal Tap to Mighty Wind and back again. And instead of creating a video, they showed a You Tube video that some guys did in New Zealand as if anyone gives a sh*t. I really, really, really was looking forward to this show and was extremely disappointed that "Unwigged and Unplugged" meant "On the cheap and For the money."

Spinal Tap were in top form playing all of their classics in an acoustic setting. The thing I forgot is what great musicians all three of them are. I would advise anyone to check out Unwigged & Unplugged if they have the chance too.

I went into this show, having seen the movie and I had heard the CD from the early 90s. It had been a while. But TAP came to town, and I figured it would be a fun night. It was fun - but, this is a show for the hardcore fans. Its not all goofy songs from the movie. They play a number of songs from A Mighty Wind, which I wasn't expecting, and a couple of others I didn't know. I would say I was familiar with 60% of the material. But, as I looked around, the majority of the crowd knew the majority of the material. The show went over well. I wish they had costumes on, as it looked like 3 middle-aged guys standing in their living room. Sound was quiet - you could have a conversation without yelling. But this is an unplugged show. If you are hardcore into The Tap, and the other movies, you will love this show. If you are a casual fan, you'll still dig it, but will wonder what you were missing all these years.

I am 36, and I have been a fan of each of these guys for years, since I was a kid, followed them on Saturday night live, in the movies, on TV, and even as far back to Laverne and Shirley... :) ...and I was expecting a great show, and it was everything I expected, and MORE!! I knew it was going to be funny, but they showed that they are great comedians AND great musicians. Going into the show, I always liked a lot of the music from Spinal Tap and Mighty Wind, but was not really sure how they were going to fill an upplugged 2 hour show, but they did it with authority! They continue to prove their brilliance. It was well worth the money, and I will definitely see them if/when they come back... I was definitely hoping for a new Spinal Tap tour, but now I am also hoping they come back unwigged and upplugged again also!

I'm a huge Spinal Tap fan, wasn't expecting a Tap concert but was really disappointed at the 50/50 mix of Tap and Mighty Wind songs. The sarcasm/jaded level of all three was off the charts and really off-putting about halfway through the show. they're certainly talented musicians but I was bored stiff by the concert.

These 3 shared stories, music, hits and even characters from their movies with us. They had amazing guests, like Elvis Costello and one of the roche sisters, just drop in for a number. Witty patter and chat with the audience. Plus everything was acoustic- unplugged- so the words and humor really stood out.

First off, they played almost all of the great Spinal Tap classics from the Smell The Glove album. They played a lot of funny stuff. They took a bunch of audience questions and had lot of gags built into the set. They played a little too much of the stuff they wrote for a Mighty Wind, but it fit with the acoustic stuff nicely.
