To see John Prine in concert is amazing. To see John Prine at the Louisville Palace is unforgettable. He is Americana at its finest. Telling stories thru his songs is what he does best. A welcome surprise was his wife, Fiona, joining him onstage to sing the encore. Well done!

This was my kids first concert and it couldn't have been any better. The Palace is beautiful, John Prine fans are the best people in the world, and John looks and sounds Great! His new album is the new favorite in my house, but still love his classic work too! What a memory to share with my family!

My wife and I have seen John Prine perform numerous times over several decades. This tour was a treat with two extra band members in addition to his longtime backup performers, Jason Wilber and Dave Jacques. But each and every show, Prine shows that he, his guitar and lyrics can captivate an audience with sheer authenticity. He mesmerized me decades ago playing at The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach in the late 1970's. Somehow, Prine has largely remained an undiscovered vein of American Folk gold, which is lucky for us who have followed him over the years. The Balboa Theatre was an excellent venue for a semi-intimate evening with John Prine. Located in the Gaslight District, we had no problem finding a great place to eat before the show.

I have been a fan of John Prine since the early '80's. He is an amazing guitar player and one of the great singer/songwriters of my generation. His songs continue to endure with time. He has been able to overcome major health issues and his voice is as strong as ever. The weather was great and the night was magical... ' Truly s living legend.

I began listening to Prine in 72 but this was the frist 'live' experience thus far. Twice previously I have purchased tickets only to have the show cancel due to slow sales. I hoped beyound hope that JP would perform a 'greatest hits' type concert and that's exactly what I got! From beginning to end this was a golden performance. The artist sounded better than his recordings. His choice to perform sans drums lent to the sense that his voice was the prominent instrument of expression onstage. Every note, phrase, dynamic and rhythm was for the presentation of the expressive lyric. His artistry as a songwriter was appropriately heralded and each morsel of art was gobbled up by the audience as if they'ed all been as hungry for this particular concert as I. You could hear a pin drop in an amplitheatre often accosted for its audiences' inappropriate lack of respect for such art. This performance will go down in my musical notes as a shining 'Souveneir'!

This is the second year in a row we've seen John Prine @ Chastain. He delivers his magical music with a strong voice & tight back-up from his band, although many of his songs are simply acoustic, the audience was ready for a night of sing-a-long. Hope he comes back next year!

This was the umpteenth time I have seen Prine live. While his setlists don't change that much, he always put on a great show. If you love songwriters, you will love John Prine. His songs are on par with the best songwriter out there (Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen). If you have the opportunity I would definitely recommend seeing him live.

This was spectacular being that Levon Helm opened for John Prine only in Atlanta. Review is for Prine but Levon had the best album of last year IMO therefore it was a special treat. Both Levon and Prine have overcome great adversity to play and sing for us again and are true geniuses at what they do. John Prine has not missed a beat at being able to connect with his audience the way very few peformers do and is one of the greatest songwriters of our time. I do not want to miss a single note he sings live if I can help it.

I have been a fan of John Prine's since 1976 when I head "Christmas in Prison" on a radio station that Georgia State U had at the time. I saw him first at Great SE Music Hall, then several times since, including at Merlefest 2 years ago. I could sing with him all night and the venue was perfect.

John Prine is still a Prime entertainer. This truly unique talent is at least as good as he ever was. Nobody exists to compare him to. His songs alternately cause you to laugh, cry, or think deeply about life. They all make you sing along. A really nice crowd at the event too.

There are few artists who would make me return to the Beacon Theater with its bad sightlines and muddy sound. Two of those artists played there last Friday. Luckily these seats were second row in the upper balcony (last time we were in the last row of the upper balcony) so rtb, violaleeblue, and I had a much better view of the stage. Also the performers were upstage, which also made it easier to see them. The sound was inconsistent. Sometimes the vocals were clear as a bell and other times a bit muddy. There was no low end on the instruments I couldn t hear the bottom on any of the guitars and the acoustic bass got lost in the mix. The marvelous Justin Townes Earle was the opening act. If you ve been following my reviews you know that he is currently one of my favorites. He s tall and skinny and charismatic. He plays the guitar and it sounds like there are two or three playing along. He tells wonderful stories both between the songs and with the songs themselves. He sings fast and talks faster. His musical partner, Cory Younts, plays banjo, mandolin, and harmonica. To say he just plays these instruments doesn t begin to convey how much he owns those instruments. There was the usual banter between the two with both calling each other Charlie. If Earle couldn t be a musician he d make a terrific carnival barker. Earle is honky-tonk, old country, new country, alt-country, traditional, alt-traditional, and folk. Unfortunately, like most opening acts, they didn t get to play to a full house but the response from those who were familiar with Earle and from those who were seeing him for the first time was explosive. On Friday some of the songs were South Georgia Sugar Babe (with the fast-talking verse at the start), a Woody Guthrie song, Halfway to Jackson, Someday I ll Be Forgiven for This, They Killed John Henry, the Replacements Can t Hardly Wait, and Mama s Eyes. John Prine is one of those artists I ve always loved and enjoyed but I don t go see. I m so happy I took care of that on Friday. Since his bout with throat cancer his voice has a bit of gravel to it and there s the normal wear that comes with age but he still sounds great. He s one of so many artists who was hailed as the next Dylan. His songs have been covered by a lot of other musicians. I ll admit I m not a big fan of some of the newer songs like In Spite of Ourselves but when he played it I got as caught up in it as I did anything else he did. I liked the other songs from the later albums too among them were Glory of True Love, and his cover of Bear Creek Blues. He has new political songs like Some Humans Ain t Human. He played favorites Souvenirs, Six O Clock News, Sam Stone, Grandpa Was a Carpenter, Hello In There, Angel From Montgomery, That s the Way the World Goes \u2018Round, and Lake Marie. I ve forgotten everything that he played but I do remember that there wasn t a disappointment in the entire set. Early on he covered a song by his old friend, Steve Goodman. He did a few songs solo on his acoustic guitar but mostly he was joined onstage with two other guys (whose names I didn t catch) on electric guitar, mandolin, and electric and stand up bass. He was an old folkie and he rocked out. Prine can still make me tear up when singing his sad songs. And his love for his wife shines through on the love songs. Earle may be the future but Prine is in no way just the past. There is still plenty good to come from him.

John Prine was in great voice and his guitar playing, while maybe not the same as twenty years ago, hasn't lost much. Unlike some of his contemporaries from the folk tradition of the 60's whose voices that are now barely deciferable (you know who I'm talking about) Mr. Prine was able to provide excellent renditions from his extensive song book that prove he's one of the great founders of an ongoing tradition that has morphed into the singer/songwriter genre of today. If you have a chance I recommend that you go see one of our county's finest songwriters. You'll be grateful that he's still with us.

First saw Johnny 35 years ago at Avery Fischer Hall and have been hooked ever since. I watched him dance onstage with Bonnie Raitt in Princeton(I think he might have been a little buzzed). He always engages you like your watching him play in your living room. I brought my sister-in-law to the Beacon and she , having barely even heard of him, is now a rabid fan asking for all the recordings I have of John. I've been to hundreds of concerts over the last 40 years and John Prine is among the best. You can never go wrong seeing him and a performance at such a beautiful venue as the Beacon is just icing on the cake. Go Johnny Go!!!

For his part of the show, John Prine was excellent. He sang most of his best songs, played and sang for about two hours straight, and delivered as expected. He still comes on stage like a guy from down the block, gets right into it, and captivates the audience for the next couple of hours. Prine works harder than most people, and enjoys everything that's going on. The amazing part of an evening listening to John Prine is that all the songs are his. You sit and listen and sing along. You wonder where and how he came up with all the stories and lyrics. And then you realize, hey the word rhymed. The character isn't any different than characters you've seen in the street a hundred times. The renovated Beacon looks great. The acoustics were great. The night was a pleasant night as expected. He should drop the opening act, but I guess he's already giving you about two hours of non-stop entertainment by himself. Go Johhny!

Excellent show. It was good to see that Prine has not lost a beat and he displayed why he is one of the best songwriters around. A true American folk treasure.
It was a dream duo of Rosanne Cash and John Prine, two members of American music royalty. Both did over the top sets, making it a most memorable evening.
John Prine is a storyteller. Considering his age, he has a lot of stories to tell and his voice is as good as it ever was. His songs tell stories about life and death and what comes inbetween. Both John and his special guest, Alejandro Escovedo, connected with the audience Saturday night by talking to them between songs like we were all sitting in a small living room. My heart feels full and my spirit seems lighter after seeing and hearing these two artists and the talented musicians who accompanied them.
This is the second John Prine concert I have attended both at the Genesee Theater. He always performs all out. We had good seats and enjoyed the concert. The warm up act including Kendel Carson and her partner. They were very good and refreshing. I really enjoyed when they joined John and his other musicians for the curtain call. I have to admit that I enjoyed the first concert I saw when he sang with Iris. They complimented each other nicely. I guess that proves "you can't go back." I would highly recommend John Prine to those who like folk-type music. I would highly encourage anyone to attend an event at the Genesee Theater. it is a fantasitc rehabed, renovated theater. The details are fantastic.
I am an unabashed John Prine fan of more than 30 years and have seen many of his live performances on various occasions. Having said that, I have admittedly not had the opportunity to attend a show for a decade until I travelled to California to see him at the Mountain Winery. The 2500 seat venue is amazingly spectacular. The two additional members of his band are tight musicians and were an asset to his show, adding depth without overshadowing the talents of one of America s great songwriters. I was the guest of a great friend who is also a Prine fan but perhaps a bit more passive than I. It was he who pointed out what a depressing set list this was if you re listening to the lyrics for content and understanding of what Prine is about (he also forgot the lyrics to Donald and Lydia). The banter I so enjoyed in his early shows was almost non-existent. Age and health issues seem to have taken a toll on John, and the constant dark themes of his songs are no longer offset by the lively, witty and energetic stage presence. I consider him an icon of American music and am saddened that he like the rest of us eventually wither like Valentine roses.
Bursting with energy and vigor, John Prine played for one of the longest concerts I've ever been to. He sings an octave lower but is sharp and active on stage. His sidemen are respectful and display intense musicianship ! The songs are gut-wrenching, or funny, or wise-cracking...insightful anthems into the American experience. Pure GENIUS. I'm so glad to have seen him again. woohoo. Audience was largely a hairy, gray baby boomer set but they knew all the songs and probably most of the picking. They were reverent and enthusiastic. But please don't whoop during "Sam Stone !"
John Prine is an American treasure. His body of work spans decades and his performance (including his band) was stellar. The weather and view of Manhattan with the freedom lights illuminated was spectacular and unforgettable. The only area that needs improvement is communication of the logistics of getting to and from the island. I did not understand how the ferries worked and wanted to get over to Governor's Island in the late afternoon to explore it is a bit. I missed the last commercial ferry so was unable to get over the island until 6pm. Thanks for a great show!
We never had the pleasure of seeing John Prine live. We have been fans for years but just never were able to time a concert in properly. That will never happen again!! The vibe that went thru the Palace Theater during his performance was incredible!! The man is truly a great singer, songwriter and performer. We had seen the Roger Waters/The Wall show, just the night before. This night was just as wonderful and just as entertaining, as that show!! I will always make time to see John when he comes around, again!
with the opening act Pieta Brown and Bo Ramsey setting the stage for a great Saturday evening's show. Smooth and jazzy was Pieta's set. John took the stage and owned the Orpheum that evening. It was pure magical tunes as is his forte as perhaps one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century. His influences on musical culture reverberate. A night to remember, see John don't walk run....

Johns opening Act Dan Redding was a HOOT! he had some interesting lyrics, and motivations. Johns Crew was amazing. each sone sounded as good as or better than studio recordings in the concert hall. John him self was at an all time best....They di what seemed like song after song after song. It felt like the concert would go on for ever! The entire crowd was energized and seemed to be hanging on every word out of Johns mouth. This was my date "Beckey" & mine's third live performance of John Prine in the past 20 years, One in Austin Texas in 1980's, one in Helena Montana in 2001, and now this one in April 2010. I've seen John Prine a few times before, last at JCCC a few years ago after he resumed touring post-cancer. This was my favorite show yet. The Midland was the perfect venue for John, warm and acoustically tuned for his scale of a show. Carrie Rodriguez did a great job with her set and helped out at the end of the show, carrying Iris DeMent's part through" In Spite of Ourselves"and in the show-closing "Paradise". After kicking off with a punchy & well received "Blow Up Your TV", John dipped into the darker side of his catalogue last night with "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness", "Souvenirs", "I Wish You Well (written for his ex-wife's wedding), "Angel From Montgomery", "Long Monday", Chain of Sorrow" , "Sam Stone" and "Hello In There" bringing more than a few tears through the hall. I think most would agree they would rather reflect and mist up at a John Prine show than dance with most bands. The crowd seemed like a reunion in progress, infinitely polite and friendly, having found this keystone that defined so many of their values. They got rowdy on cue for "Illegal Smile" and sang "Lake Marie" and "Paradise" like they were paid to do it.

Setlist & Review 1. Spanish Pipedream (was getting my pic with '80s/'90s BAND lead guitarist Jim Weider, who decided to play with Levon on his current tour (hasn't done a tour with him in 10 years, so I only heard this song from a distance while making my way through the venue; might be one of my Top 5 Prine songs so far, so I wished I'd moved faster to my seat 2. Picture Show 3. Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore (John talked about playing with Steve Earle in D.C. the night before, singing a bunch of patriotic songs. He said he thought he had 1 more left (Flag Decal). 4. Six O'Clock News (one of very few I didn't know that evening, but lady next to me was a huge Prine fan, so I quickly got titles I didn't know) 5. Souvenirs (John said it was for Steve Goodman). Band Intros 6. Grandpa Was A Carpenter (John: Unlike most of my songs, that was a true story). 7. Fish & Whistle (John: I was almost done with one of my records until my producer asked me to write 1 more song. I said I'd write the worst song I could. Now, after playing it a couple hundred times, I think I finally like it). 8. Glory Of True Love (One of my [reviewer's] favorite from "Fair & Square" '05: John: mentions co-writer Roger Cook & Roger's difficulty pronouncing "R's." He also said that he preferred writing alone. He also humorously told the audience he worried during the songwriting process that Roger was writing the song about John's wife). 9. All The Best (didn't know this song at all but liked it) 10. Angel From Montgomery (for Bonnie Raitt) Band Exits, leaving John to perform with just his acoustic guitar 11. Donald & Lydia 12. Dear Abby (crowd does sing-along: during the song John relates that the final verse about sitting in the backseat of the car with his girlfriend was a true story, then he said that songwriters never like resorting to the truth & proceeds to sing that verse: Final Line........Signed, Remarried!) 13. That's The Way That The World Goes 'Round 14. Sam Stone (BAND RETURNS ABOUT MIDWAY & REMAIN FOR REST OF EVENING; bass player's use of bow on stand-up bass was excellent choice) 15. Bear Creek Blues 16. She Is My Everything (from 5 or so songs I have from "Fair & Square," this & "Glory Of True Love" are favorites: only time John switches to electric guitar: for his wife Fiona; she's in Nashville tonight, so I'll have to sing loud) 17. Ain't Hurtin' Nobody (he takes off his coat & tie before beginning this song; when he sang the line "50 Million Elvis Fans Can't Be All Wrong," he got some shouts from the crowd (reviewer is a big Elvis fan) After the above song, a lady hollered out a request: "Illegal Smile." She did this earlier, too. John acknowledged her by telling her to sing along with the record) 18. Hello In There (hearing the bow used on the stand-up bass really set an atmosphere for the song; at the conclusion, John goes ahead & unpacks his shirt) 19. Lake Marie Encore 20. Paradise (for the encore, his brother comes out (don't remember his name;) John introduced him as his little brother, but he was much bigger & taller than John; Also, Larry Campbell (fiddle) & Jim Weider (electric guitar) from Levon's band come & play on this song; during song's last verse, John's brother takes the spotlight, singing it to a round of applause. I went to this concert because of Levon Helm due to his work with The Band & his recent solo albums. In fact, I heard about this show exactly 1 week before it occurred. The name "John Prine" has always been familiar to me, maybe because I saw him on PBS when I was younger (I'm 25), but I was one of those people who couldn't name 1 song he had recorded or written. However, that first began to change a couple of months ago while I compiled an Everly Brothers' playlist of some of their greatest songs. "Paradise" was one of them. I decided to download a list of John's greatest songs along with those he's been playing recently in his setlist. I found myself really liking what I heard. By the time June 6th rolled around, I definitely knew I was going to attend a concert I would remember. By the way, my plan of compiling recent setlists of John's concerts worked pretty well. The only song I didn't know was "All The Best" from 1991's "Missing Years" LP, but I've got it now from iTunes. "Flag Decal" was actually a surprise, since I hadn't seen it in John's recent setlists here on the Shrine, but I immediately recognized the title, & it got a good reaction from the Atlanta crowd. "Grandpa Was A Carpenter" & "Dear Abby" are 2 songs I admire. I luckily added them to my playlist earlier this week based on their appearances on 1976's "Prime Prine" greatest hits LP. I didn't expect John to perform these songs since they too weren't listed on his recent setlists (maybe that's just because I'm a new fan). "Dear Abby" went over well & perhaps got the most laughs of the evening. I drove about 3.5 hours from South GA to the concert venue in Atlanta. The Chastain Amphitheater has a weird set-up to me; tables for 6 fill up the floor, followed by boxes with rows & then just rows as you get farther away from the stage. People could also sit on the lawn if they wished. The venue wasn't full by any means. Maybe I can find out later how many people were there. John played 1 hour & 42 minutes, concluding just before 11:00 PM. With all the great things about the show, I was really disappointed that Levon didnt' come out & sing/play with John. My understanding was they were going to do 2 "special" shows this summer, & fans could expect a collaboration of some sort. An opportunity missed. At least Campbell & Weider played on "Paradise." Another thing: I tried to take pics, but security immediately said no photos. That's one thing that always irks me. They never went out into the audience to reprimand other concert-goers; they just sat & watched the 1st few rows of people. I did get some, though, but most of them came during Levon's hour before I was told to stop. I especially enjoyed the back-up instrumentation, although I sometimes thought drums might be nice on some songs, since I had only heard the studio versions before attending the show, but that's only a tiny complaint. On the other hand, it gave many of the songs he performed a fresh slant. It was very nice of John to mention his band members' names more than once during the evening & praise their amazing musical abilities. It's amazing to me that John performed 8 songs from his debut "John Prine" LP from 1971 (were 13 on it). In comparison, he sang 3 songs from 2005's "Fair & Square" album. I wonder if he's ever sang any from 2007's "Standard Songs For Average People" in concert. In summary, I'd recommend seeing a John Prine to any fan of music. I'm glad I attended it for sure.

And a good time was had by all. Note that the staff at this venue was great at handling unruly patrons, and the bar upstairs will let you pre-order drinks for intermission. Superb.

It was another great show. The new band members are slick, and good musicians. John showed us that he still has the moves. The playlist was a nice combination of tunes from the Tree of Forgiveness and older stuff. Peter Wolf was, as always awesome. That man can still dance, and the band was crisp and alive.

Saw John Prine for the second time on his Tree of Forgiveness tour. The first show being Radio City Music Hall. While it s not fair to compare the venues, I can compare the shows. Radio City was an amazing show all around. This show was as good if not slightly better as the band had another couple months together to absorb the new member. This show rocked from start to finish. He still has it at 70+. And, the crowd seemed just as enthusiastic as he did. Terrific show. And the addition of Peter Wolf aka Woofa-Goofa was a special bonus. Will be looking for him around town as well.

The John Prine concert was awesome!!! The Wang Theatre was a beautiful backdrop to the beauty and simplicity of John Prine and his music. The concert was a great mix of current releases mixed with some of the old favorites...with his dry sense of humor mixed through-out. It was a great concert...thank you John Prine!!!

Wow! The trip from St. Louis was worth it! John and his band put on a great show with a wonderful mix of the old classics and the new soon-to-be classics from TREE OF FORGIVENESS. He had a playful attitude on stage but was appropriately serious and focused as always. And the setting was great. A beautiful hall with great acoustics. Loved sharing the experience with friends Randy and Carrie and their SO's.

Have seen John many times and this time, like the rest, didn't disappoint. He weaved songs from his new CD in with some classics and a couple of older songs that haven't been played that often seamlessly. The venue is stunning. Despite its age, the sound was excellent as were the sight lines.

Been listening to John for nearly 50 years. I have attended a 100 or so concerts over 50 years and this ranks as one of the best. Hard to say what the 'best' is because there have been so many good ones. I saw John a few weeks before at the 'Live from Here...' show at the Saenger. He only performed 4 of his tunes at that event. Margo Price was a very nice complement to John's music. Their duet performance of 'In Spite of Ourselves' was fabulous and as good as it gets. Side note, there was a huge black bus parked in front of the venue which I thought for sure was John's. It was Margo's. I didn't know she was that big. According to John's staff, he flies to all of his shows.

John Prine at DAR Constitution Hall. In my 36+ years of seeing John Prine in concert, I think THIS SHOW was his best that I can remember. He was just "On" tonight. At 71 years young, his voice was strong and the music was tight. I've never seen John use a drummer on stage. That was a first. And it worked. The rocking songs rocked and the ballads were crooned. John didn't tell as many stories between songs as he sometimes does, but that left room for a few more songs. Fiona and her sister joined John onstage for the encore of Paradise. Just. Excellent. Pure Magic.

John Prine never disappoints. He has a great band, and a joyful presence. I will see him any chance I get. Dan Auerbach opened, and was great. A tad bit mellow, but what a great performance. If you get a chance, come worship at the Church of John Prine.

Prine played with a full band, including hometown hero Jason Wilbur on lead guitar, and was joined by Kathy Mattea for a couple of songs. The show was freakin' incredible. He played lots and lots of old favorites, including Illegal Smile, Souvenirs, Hello In There, Sam Stone, Saddle In the Rain, Lake Marie, Fish and Whistle, Flag Decal, Please Don't Bury Me, Grandpa Was a Carpenter and Angel from Montgomery. Encore was Paradise with everyone, including the opening act, on stage. Awesome show. Pretty long, too.

Loved the show! Before he came out the audience roared the Go Cubs, go song and he came out and said It's good to be home! Concert was the day of the Parade for Cubs Winning World Series. I loved John's show- I knew every song! My only regret is that he had his brother open instead of a great female singer, like usual. The musicians in John's band are phenomenal. I like following him to different cities and the Chicago Theatre was top notch for this show!

John Prine does not disappoint! The perfect mix of old and new, with surprise guests and duets! He is the master storyteller...
I have been a lifelong fan of John Prine and have seen him in live performances over 40 times. This was the best show I have ever attended. I love the Birchmere and was able to sit a few feet away from him during his performance. I was even able to shake his hand as he was leaving the auditorium after "Paradise"
I didn't know what to expect. Like me, John is getting a little age on him. John's health has been a concern over the last few years. To be honest, I went thinking this might be my last chance to see what's left of this song writing genius. I'm here to report that there is plenty left! John was amazing! His wit, his showmanship, his musical ability, his illegal smile----It was all there! For 2 hours I sat there in awe of what I had the pleasure of witnessing----True genius. The crowd was right there with John every step of the way. We were clapping, screaming, singing along. We didn't want the night to end. I'm thanking my lucky stars that I went and I now know that we will all have an opportunity to bathe in the glow that is John Prine many more times.
John Prine performed for two hours himself after Amanda Shires opened for 30 minutes. His voice and guitar playing were solid as always. He showed tremendous energy and enthusiasm fed by the raucous audience of hard core Prine fanatics. The BEST!!
We have been at John Prine's last 3 concerts at the Genesee Theater. The one last Friday was my second favorite. I have no problem that since the last time John has gained some weight and his voice is more gravelly than it was at the last concert because it happens to all of us. He and his group worked hard during the program. It was a bit more difficult understanding the lyrics. I liked the first concert we saw the best because of the mature woman artist who sang with him. I'm sorry I have no idea of her name. John has written many great songs and collaborated with many famous artists. He is absolutely worth seeing. His warm up man, Loudan Wainwright III, was quite unique and extremely entertaining. He added a great deal to the evening.
I thought maybe I had missed seeing John Prine in his prime--I was mistaken. He, along with his incredible band of first rate musicians, was rehearsed, energetic, full of spirit and drive, and genuinely happy to be alive. He played so many killer classics with such passion it was like he had something even bigger to say than the songs themselves: that he is a fighter, a survivor, that he has been given a second chance and he was going to rock it till the end. Rest assured that he won't let you down, and don't miss the chance to see Prine in his prime.
Two singer~songwriters doing what they do best!!!Kris sang some of my favorites and it was an honor for me to share this amazing experience. And John Prine played a high energy show that kept me totally engaged. After following these two Legends for the past three decades it was a real treat to see them performing together!!!
John Prine rocked the stage! He is one of a kind. Love his quirky down to earth songs. I was a little disappointed that he didn't sing Dear Abby or Illegal Smile.
As expected, JP was great. My ears aren't what they used to be, so the songs I hadn't heard before lacked clarity, but my favs had me laughing out loud and crying in my beer. I did miss 2 of my absolute favs, "Illegal Smile", which the crowd was begging for, with no success, and "Don't Bury Me". But he killed on "Sam Stone" and "Hello In There". His warm up singer, talented as she was, was no substitute for the missing favs, but JP gave hours of boundless energy and entertainment.

I purchased the tickets months ago just to see the opening act, Margo Price. She was not there. She opened for John Prine the night before at the Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia then she headed to NY instead of Chrysler Hall as originally scheduled. Ashley Monroe opened instead. There was no announcement of this change. I felt deceived. There has not been any explanation as to why there was a change. The fans deserve better. John Prine was excellent, however that was not my original reason for purchasing the tickets.

While I ve listened to his music for decades, I had never seen John Prine in concert before. He did not disappoint. He was energized, engaged and seemed to be having a great time sharing his music with the packed house at Chrysler Hall. Prine s finger picking guitar work was terrific, and he has surrounded himself with some exceptionally talented band mates. Their skill came through clearly in the venue s fine acoustics. It was a wonderfully entertaining evening. And, I should note that Ashley Monroe gave a great performance as the evening s opening act.

Another great show by America's premier story teller. John Prine's music is a reflection of America, at least of John's view of America, and it resonates deeply with me and all his real fans. Loved the lead act also. Great songs, great voice. She needs to throw in one "Please Don't Bury Me" for every 3 "Sam Stones" however.
