The distinctive voice and rockabilly styling was in full force on the star at BB King's. Robert Gordon is an original and a voice like black velvet ith a hint of whiskey. Didn't want it to end.

Have been a huge fan since the early 80"s. The last show I saw a couple of years ago was great. However, this show was terrible. The constant sound problems, the lack of continuity with the songs and the lack of stage presence was evident. He really needed a link Way or Chris Speeding. Thank goodness for Rob Stoner who was the best part of the show. Maybe practice a little bit and the show may be better.

Probably one of the worst shows I have seen in a long time. Mr. Gordon couldn't get his sound to work, so instead of just singing . . . like he does so well, he pissed and moaned, kept walking off the stage . . . stopping in the middle of songs . . . made his band carry the show by themselves for like 4 songs, then ended the show early. So disappointed . . . ? Word to Mr. Gordon . . . just sing and take the rest in stride. It's not like this is your first rodeo and your voice is amazing.

Robert Gordon still has it!! He rocked it at 65!!! Didn't do Black Slacks aor Make Believe and that was a little bit disappointing BUT he did all the other great stuff and it made up for it! Can't wait to go see him again. The Wonderbar was an awesome venue!!

A great show from beginning to end. Million Dollar Quartet plus 1 came out strong and kept the energy coming. Robert Gordon and his back-up band were fluid and upbeat all night. There was a lot of light humor from Robert complete with audience requests. Would have liked to hear someday, someway but was very satisfied with all that was played. Mr bassman was excellent!

After reading some reviews I was inclined not to go see the Rockabilly Rebel perform live again and leave those great memories of RG singing with THE BOSS in Asbury Park vivid in my memory bank. I was really surprized what a great time and performance he put on. He had a new tight young band he said was the first time they played together and they laid a solid beat for his strong voice. He still commands an audience and after a slow start he ripped it up. He took requests from the audience and his Mom was in the audience celebrating her 90th Birthday. It was a special night for all in attendance. As a longtime fan noticing that he rarely performs I was blown away by his ability to rock the house again! Robert Gordon's Charisma and Cool are still intact and he remains a ROCK ICON who never fully got the recoginition he deserved for making great old songs sound new. I hope he continues to tour as I would like to see him again and will remain a loyal fan.

I dont know what Robert Gordon was thinking ! The band was way under rehearsed. They were more of a psychedelic power trio then a rockabilly band. They just didn't swing. They are talented musicians but not for a Elvis Birthday Bash. The whole evening was saved by The Broadway cast of Million Dollar Quartet. These guys knew how to have fun.

Robert Gordon at BB King's on Wednesday night was in his usual great form. He very seldom disappoints. What made the show for me was the fantastic band that backed him. The lead guitarist was a complete virtuoso. Who is this guy? The guy on bass was great to. This coupled with the cast from the Million Dollar Quartet opening the show, made for a very memorable night.

After reading some horrible reviews my expectations were low for last nights show. WOW what a great time! His new young band were hotter than pepper pudding and the Rockabilly Rebel sounded Super. He said it was the first time he played out with this new band. He played for an hour and a half, took requests from the audience and had the packed house eating out of his hand. He started off with two ELVIS songs as the night was a Bithday Celebration for THE KING. He sang The Way I Walk ,Rockabilly Boogie, Someday,Someway, The Fool, Fire and even through in BBBBBBBBBBLACK SLACKS and the crowd went nuts. His Mom was in attendence celebrating her 90th Birthday and you can see it was a special night for him too. Even if you are not a fan like me I highly recommend seeing a true Rock Icon who never got the credit he deserved and see for yourself. From the days of seeing him at THE FAST LANE is ASBURY PARK when THE BOSS would jump up on stage with him the man hasn't lost his charisma or cool.

A flat, lazy, disheartening show. The magic is gone. I've been listening to Robert Gordon since 1977, attended maybe 12-15 shows over the years, beginning at the old Lone Star Cafe in NYC back in 1980. I attended last year's show at BB King's, and it was certainly a better performance than this one. There seemed to be no set list; he repeatedly asked the audience for requests throughout the show, and displayed little interest in providing a memorable experience for his audience, which appeared to be comprised mostly of friends or hardcore followers, based on his interactions with them. It was a very forgiving crowd, because his performance was well below average. His voice was not great, his phrasing was odd and "off," and his overall stage demeanor reflected indifference. His banter with the audience was limited to old, stale shtick, and his performance was mostly disappointing. The two songs his lead guitarist performed were better than anything Gordon performed during his set, in my opinion. There were perhaps three highlights, one of them being "Rockbilly Boogie," with which he closed the show. Happens to be my favorite, so there was some redemption there. I love this guy. He was, in my opinion, unstoppable back in the glory days, but unfortunately, those glory days seemed long removed from his performance on Jan. 6, 2011. He also performed just a few Elvis songs in his set, so the show didn't really live up to its billing as an "Elvis Birthday Bash." Sad. I wish I could write a different review, because he really is an icon. I believe even a casual listen to his body of work will make anyone a rabid Robert Gordon fan. But this just didn't cut it for me. For whatever reason -- indifference on his part, age, lack of preparation, etc. -- his performance was far from red hot. It was a lot closer to doodly- squat.

Robert Gordon's show on Jan. 6 at BB King's left me wanting at least a partial refund. While Gordon's voice was strong, he performed for a scant one hour and ten minutes only. He seemed disinterested to some degree as well commenting on stage the he was "tired". Even if you are tired, Robert, your fans would appreciate a bit more enthusiasm. Just about from the start he asked the partially filled room (maybe 60% full; none of the outer tables or booths we occupied at the club) for requests. He played some of those requests. The band behind him, lead by Barry Ryan on guitar, was pretty tight but at one point the sound quality from the stage sounded poor. Not sure what caused this but it was temporary and probably required some sound board adjustment to fix. Gordon left the stage about 20 minutes into the show to allow Ryan the opporunity to perform 2 songs. Despite all of this it was still fun to see Gordon perform his mix of Elvis tributes and some of his own Rockabilly tunes. He just didn't provide the quantity I expected or that he delivered in the same show 1 year ago which I also attended.

Wow, what a terrific show! Robert Gordon is the king of rockabilly! I saw him over 15 years ago and he hasn't lost a step. A fabulous entertainer with an incredible voice that has matured over the years. I would have liked to hear some more of my favorite songs, but when he rocked the place was jumping. I'll be on the look out for his next show in NY.

Robert Gordon & his gang were in fine mode for a bunch of top notch profesionals who haven't played together long. Chris Spedding was of course the star gunslinger who kept it all running smoothly. Chris is a consumate professional, who has a long resume. Check out his web site and I highly recommend his solo work, along with early stints in s fabulous group called "SHARKS" in the early 1970's. Robert Gordon has a winning combo right now with this line up, and I hope they come back to Potawatomi on their next go round! Cudos to Glenn Mattlock (Sex Pistols) & Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats) for keeping a strong back beat. Robert Gordon still has that wonderful deep bass vocal that is a Rockabilly fans delight!

I was surprised and disappointed that the show was not organized. The main act did not start on time, what else is new. When he came out he asked the audience for songs to sing. Huh?? Then he huddled with the band to decide which songs to sing from everyone calling different titles. He didnt sing Hound dog, nor jailhouse rock, or dont be cruel. Robert Gordons voice was excellent, and the band was great. Too bad the show wasnt set up. BB kings is a great place for live music, for that act to go on it just looked unprofessional for the venue and the big name act with so many years under his belt. Robert Gordon wasted so much time in beween songs literally turning his back to the audience and huddling with band. I should have asked for a refund.

Great lineup! Robert was in fine voice and good humor, and his band was top-notch. Chris sounded great, and it was a real treat seeing a former Cat singing a Stray Cats tune, and a former Pistol singing a Sex Pistols tune (it was pretty cool seeing each member being given a piece of the spotlight). They actually looked as if they were enjoying themselves...Slim Jim in particular. Great show!

The show outdid what i thought up front. I knew it was going to be an Awesome event but it was an AWESOME DYNAMIC event. I saw Robert when with Tuff Darts - He was awesome then - He was equally as awesome last eve. Slim Jim - need I say more. Was just supurb. And Glen - I saw him with the Sex Pistols - then awesome, last eve AWsomer (is that a word - haha) And they all looked great. They are as friendly and cool as they always were. Glen gave me something special which I will frame and put on my rock wall of fame. He is such a great guy. Hey, they all are. I highly recommend you seeing them together, individually or with whoever else they may jam with. It will send chills through ya' Just a great gig.. LOVEPEACELOVE
