City and Colour

City and Colour

City and Colour (aka  Dallas Green) delivered another folk-rock gem full of soft lilting vocals and delicate guitar playing with his 2013 release The Hurry and the Harm.  The album debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Albums Chart and featured the heartbreaking single “Thirst” as well as the remorseful “The Lonely Life.” The Hurry and the Harm is the follow-up to 2011’s Little Hell, another No.

I had some skepticism that the band would play a full 2 hour set but not only did they, but it was flawless. Not much banter at all between songs and what little there was - was all extremely uplifting and unifying. This type of human connection in weary times was so needed.

City and Colour always puts on a great show. 2 hour set this time around and worth every penny. Even the opening act Marlon Williams was incredible! Highly recommend this show.

The Venue was cool, the opening acts were okay, the drinks were wicked expensive 15+ per, but City and Colour was amazing. Dallas Green never sings a song the same twice. He played three news songs, and came out for an encore, fantastic!! Was a little disappointed with the crowd, I would say 50% didn't know who they were or words to songs. To be honest, Somerville Ma, outside Boston was a better venue, and far better fans, but the talent and sound of City and Colour live is undeniable!!

The artist seemed very pretentious this particular night. I've seen him twice before and all other times I don't remember specific "negative" things said, but this time I could probably list few too many. Other than that, he played new songs that I wasn't farmiliar with to promote his new album and it was nice to hear it first in a live setting and I'm excited about his new music.

Honest to God, this was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. He's is amazing, and so were the opening acts, fellow Canadians Daniel Romano and Gordon Dowie. All in all, it was a fantastic night. No matter how hard it rained, it couldn't wash away the memory of this outstanding perfomance.

The City and Colour show at the El Rey Theatre on March 22nd was truly the most amazing experience I've had. I've had to wait for 4 months just staring at my tickets hopeing the day would come soon. Dallas and his band put an amazing 1 1/2 hour show, including an Encore with 2 classic songs.

Dallas Green's perfectly toned voiced echoed crisp and clear as can be in the El Reys cozy elegant theatre. The sound system was amazing, it was like acoustic HD for the ears. City and Colour put a spin on some of their songs with a full band that added a bluesy rock feel. Despite the majority of narcissistic fans that Dallas seemed to get annoyed by (the ones shouting out their shallow love for him), the crowd was very calm and and respectful, hardly any drinking. I would give the experience 5 stars except for I was disappointed by how little songs City and Colour played, and how did they did not do meet and greets after the show, like most do at small venues.

It was my first time seeing City and Colour and it will definitely not be the last. Gord Downie was very interesting to say the least and I would expect Green to pick more qualified opening bands but besides that the show was amazing. He made connections with the audience and told us a few funny stories. It was awesome!

My problem was not really Dallas but his opening acts. I cannot recall the first artist but he had a southern feel to his music. He was very good but not the right time and place. All of his songs but one were very slow and kind of bummed me out. Not a good way to start a show if you have been standing outside in the cold and another hour inside just doing nothing. I just think it was to kill time because honestly how long does it take one guitarist to set up? The next artist came up and I honestly thought it was going to get better but it didn't. I think this was the lowest point of the show. I cannot believe that Gord Downie was able to open up for City and Colour. Not only was he boring but his voice was very annoying. It was almost like torture trying to get through his set. The crowd was also not really feeling him. I think people were just being polite and clapping at the end of each song. There was point were a good amount of people were just sitting on the floor and chatting away. It was halfway through his set where I was getting a headache because of his singing style and just sat on the floor too. My buddy and I were really ready to leave. I have never had that feeling of wanting to walk out of any show. But we stuck it out because we knew C & C was coming up. I think that my problem was not with Dallas but his opening acts. I was expecting a lot from this show. I still give Dallas a lot of credit. He was funny, charming and spoke to the crowd but I was expecting more. He also played most of his songs with a band and not on his own which I thought he was going to do. I would see him again but I would have to see who is opening for him before I buy a ticket.

I am a huge fan of Tegan and Sara, and have seen City and Colour open for them at a concert in the past. I think that City and Colour is just OK; not nearly as good as Tegan and Sara. However, T&S did not play nearly as long as City and Colour, which was rather disappointing to me. They were great, but I was surprised that they did not do their usual "concert banter", as they have in the other 3 shows of theirs that I have attended. The venue was very picturesque. The seats that I had were in the center, and were about halfway to the end of the lawn from the stage. I could barely see anything. I had to refer to the screens the entire time. I did not feel that this view was worth a $65 ticket cost. Overall, I felt that this concert was good, and it is always worth it to see Tegan and Sara. However, the view and the length of their set could have been improved.

Do this man justice!! Dallas is an amazing singer, writer, performer!! He can captivate you from start to finish by his voice, song or playing. Well worth the trip to Toronto and not to mention the electricity brewing from the crowd itself until erupting when Gord stepped on stage for the final song. OMG! AMAZiNGGGGGGG! I've seen City and Colour play at Coachella and Lollapalooza this year and I have to say that their performance at the House of Blues last Thursday night was their best show yet!! They are very passionate about their music and the whole crowd felt it. We met & talked to Dallas & the guys after the show.. I got to show them my tattoo of Dallas with the California (Coachella) and Chicago (Lollapalooza) skyline. They were were impressed. They were a joy to talk to and very sincere! There's nothing better than meeting someone you look up to and they turn out to be even more amazing than you thought! We love you, Dallas, Scott, Dylan, & Daniel ("Awkward"Guitar Guy )!!!

Anyone who has not seen Dallas Green & City and Colour should not miss out whenever they come to town. There is a reason why this show was sold out....it was incredible before it even happened! I have attended plenty of shows in the Ballroom & The Loft but this was my first time in South Side, and it was just as intimate. Sound, lighting, crowd, everything went smoothly. City and Colour played as a full band instead of a solo act which was very entertaining and different from past performances. The band consisted of other musicians including the openers and high lighted their talents as well as Dallas's. They put some new spins on all the songs we know and love, and gave them a harder rock feel. Dallas may have let some of his Alexisonfire side slip through. They included the audience and even handed over the vocals to us in a few songs. The show was fun & artistic, it was overall amazing.

Dallas Green aka City and Colour is absolutely wonderful to listen to and even more amazing LIVE. His vocals are beautiful and his guitar skills are incredible. I love how he changes guitars throughout the show from various acoustic to fancy electric.. Every song just goes through your soul. This was my 2nd time seeing him live and I can't wait for the next... He is a laid back easy going guy, interacts with the crowd and makes you feel like we're all friends hanging out...

I feel the way about City and Colour that most of friends felt about Taylor Swift in high school: he just gets it. I often find myself unable to listen to his music for too long, because it just produces such a visceral, emotional reaction in me that I need breaks from it. The first time I saw him live was kind of an accident. A girl I had recently met had a free ticket to this music festival he happened to be playing at, but because I hadn't really heard of him at the time, we basically talked through his whole set. (We're best friends now.) The second time I saw him was at another music festival: Lollapalooza. It was raining and dark, so we stood in the way back on the cement instead of the grass. The weather basically turned the whole endeavor into a religious experience for me, but my friend just wasn't super into it and we were pretty far away, so I still didn't get the full experience. This was the third time. I'm going to openly admit I'm extremely biased here, but, truly, never have I seen a more meaningful set-list. Dallas started with his most surface level, boppity tunes, such as "Runaway," and "Killing Time," and, frankly, I was disappointed. That part of his repertoire is my least favorite, because they sound the most surface-level, while so much else of his delves so deeply into the human condition. But, as the set went on, he proved me wrong. The bop was the first third. The middle third got much harder, more rock and roll: "Wasted Love," "Fragile Bird," "Weightless." The final third focused on the more sentimental, softer ballads: "Comin' Home" "Hello, I'm in Delaware," "Little Hell." For me, and hopefully for Dallas, this perfectly mimicked a human relationship. When you meet someone, you share the surface details of your life; even if you're falling apart you try to sound happy because you don't want to be a burden. It's extremely boring. No one really likes it, but it's what you have to do to ease into getting to know someone. Once that relationship continues, there's push-back. You find out things about each other that you don't like. You worry the other person won't accept your problems or baggage. You struggle. You become angry. You put up walls. You tear down those walls but get frustrated when the other person hasn't. You're passionate. But then, once you get past that, you find that sweet spot. You listen to each other. You care. You help each other solve problems in a productive way and create sympathy. It's compassionate. It's nice. It's soft. And then, after this "performance," he did the encore alone, with only an acoustic guitar. So after creating this masterpiece of music and set list, then he was like, "Hey, I'm just Dallas." It was utterly, utterly perfect. I'm an incredibly anxious person, and normally when I go to shows I set and freak out about if they'll play my favorite song and how much time is left and yada yada yada. But here, I was present. Yes, I wanted him to play my favorites (which he did!), but I was also super content to just sit there and let him play and listen. It was enrapturing, mesmerizing. I truly felt like I could have stayed there all night and never wanted to leave.  I'm not sure I'll ever leave a City and Colour show feeling completely sated, though. There's just something about him and his genius that I feel like I'll never truly understand, even as much as I feel like he understands what I've been through, as evidenced by his music. It's like he washes over me without ever truly sinking it. It's almost ghost-like. But, I'm going to keep trying, and, this time, I think he got about as close as he could.

I have always loved City & Colour. This was my 5th or 6th time seeing them and the experience of seeing them has only gotten better each time. I remember when it was just him and guitar. When he would play small venues like the Troubadour or the Whiskey a Go Go. Now seeing how much he has grown as a solo artist from playing with Alexisonfire. He is a musical genius. I will always continue to support him as long as he keeps making beautiful music. As far as the venue goes, where do I start. I have never liked the Wiltern. Its a pain in the ass just getting there. Then once you're in there, its like fighting for a good view. Sound wise, the sound is great. If only we can get a view to go with it. Had I known they were playing the HOB Anaheim when I bought tix, I would've waited until then.

First of all, this is an excellent venue. It's the second time I've seen a show there and both times I enjoyed the smaller size of the space that still offered big time sound and acoustics. City and Colour did not disappoint. From Dallas's dry charming humor, to the band's ability to completely captivate even during the slowest of songs, the show was excellent. I have to admit, I was nervous at first. It was my first "adult" concert meaning that it was low key and there wouldn't be any rowdy crowd surfing or anything like that going on. I was not let down. I was well worth the 3 hour drive.

Superb musicianship by Dallas Green and the band - and that voice. In the longtime wake since Jeff Buckley's passing, and the more recent loss of Chris Cornell, it was so good to see and listen to someone who can just stand there and sing. Wonderful falsetto and when the bang went big, as in the newer songs, the concert truly had transporting moments. Keen to see where Dallas and crew take their art in the next recordings, etc.

This is the second time I've seen City and Colour live. The first was two years ago back at the Fillmore in SF. His show at the Fox Theater did not feel as intimate as it felt before, but that did not stop him from giving a great show. I have never seen lights be so interactive and as amusing as Dallas himself. He did manage to find certain moments when he could be intimate with the audience, but like always, some just don't appreciate those moments. If you've never heard any music from City and Colour, check it out! Listen to Bring me Your Love or Little Hell, those albums will make you re-appreciate what music can do for your heart.

I have never seen any other artist do that for a live show. Besides that amazing opportunity, the show was highly memorable! Amazing sound, light display and a friendly atmosphere. The venue was perfect!

Been waiting for city and colour to come to a close enough venue to Tallahassee for years now and I've seen him live when he was still a part of alexisonfire but Dallas green as city and colour was unforgettable that night. Fell in love with his music even more. The sound was amazing. There isn't a song I don't like so he played each one with that emotion I love to see on stage. Really engaged the crowd. Absolutely wonderful show. Worth the drive and the time and the money. Would see him over and over again as long as he keeps making music.

Dallas Green with the help of his amazing band City & Colour inspire to the fullest extent and potential of the human emotion and my relative understanding of how I walk through everyday life and to see him in person once again further shaped my view of this life and how I should go about my days if it's not for the life changing lyrics and effort Dallas puts into every single song or the vigor and pure enthralling fire he brings into his performances. I will definitely be seeing him again hopefully next year when he comes close enough to where I can travel and see C&C. Besides this he is so dedicated to his fans and humbled by every single one and I find that unique about him because there are not many people who have such a big heart and get lost in fame. Bottom line I will be there again and hopefully this time I'll get to meet him as I was 5 feet away last time.

Dallas Green's music resonated beautifully in Ryman Auditorium. There was a calm in his voice through each song. Darkness is a common theme in his music, but there was a light and effortless feel about the show. Respectful, humble and thankful are the best words to describe his attitude towards playing in such a sacred hall. I have seen several shows at the Ryman, including Ray LaMontagne, Bon Iver, The Decemberists, Jamie Johnson, The XX and more. City and Colour greatly exceeded my expectations, and are among my favorite performances thus far. If you ever have a chance to see this band perform, by all means, go see them play.

I have never been to a better show all my life! Dallas Green has the voice of an angel, and the band just played so well together. It sounded perfect, almost like the recorded songs, but he changed the pitch here and there. Way better than going to a lip synced concert for sure! I was a little disappointed with the crowd I was in, only because they didn't seem very into it. The light show was unforgettable as well. Whoever was on lights, great job man, it looked amazing. Good job to everyone who helped make that show possible. Couldn't have asked for a better night!!

The sound was great. They played studio quality music with all the nuances of a live show. We moved around the venue and there was no bad place to stand. It was crowded but still with room to move.

All bands were amazing and well prepped for the concert. METRIC was the highlight for me, especially when the storm rolled in as they played "speed the collapse". Candid. Thanks!

All acts performed amazing live. I really enjoyed the closing song for Jimmy Eat World. Metric (Emily Haines especially) was awesome. They played even better as the rain came down. The City and Colour act at the end of the night was very interactive. Dallas encouraged every single spectator to sing loud and proud. He was very gracious and thankful for every single fan present. I enjoyed the whole show, despite the fact that the venue was very muddy due to the rain.

Dallas Green of City and Colour never disappoints his fans, his voice soothes the soul. I will be going to a few more of his shows this summer and fall and cannot wait to see him preform again!

It was a great show. The music was unforgettable and the atmosphere was amazing. We have been both times, now and each one was a perfect day out for a concert. Even with a little rain, everybody was in a great mood and just happy to be there.

The concert was amazing, the crowd was great. The guards were a little rude (would tell people not to stand on the pavement, tell everyone to hurry up).... Halfway near the end of Metric it poured (rain)..

My friend asked me to go with her to this concert even though I had never heard of them before. I am so glad I went because they are all I have listened to since. I hope they come back again-I would see them again in a heartbeat!

With so many loyal fans at the show, singing along to every song, knowing every word, I wonder why it is that none of my friends of heard of Dallas Green. He's a poor man's Dylan for a contemporary age, ticking off every note with the precision of a journeyman. In a time so such dreadful music, City and Colour stands out with a unique quality that stays in your bones after the show has ended. Go see them!

I could listen to him and the band song all night long. Unfortunately I would have to close my eyes to enjoy him. I understand is standing room, and I do like the fact that they tried to add tvs, but it's a concert and if you want to have tvs setup, place then in an area where the sound doesn't blubber of the walls. Terminal 5 needs an update, until they do, I will not go back there. I did appreciate the amount of security that was taken before the show. I would rather be safe then sorry.

What more can you say! It was a master class in smart, emotion packed, passion filled music delivered by Dallas Green and his fabulous band. Focusing mostly on material from the recent release, the band played with passion and confidence. This is a live act not to be missed. Dallas can sing like no other; he is a unique talent that needs to be seen to be completely appreciated. My only reservation was that I was hoping they'd play "Runaway" from the new album but it didn't make the set list. Despite that; One of the best shows if the year.

I can honestly say that City and Colour sounds just as amazing in person as on record. They played a lot more newer stuff with some older tunes mixed in. It's not too often they play around here so it was more than a pleasure to experience such an awesome show!

"No bells and whistles"- figuratively speaking- just a wonderful atmosphere and talented musicians playing their souls out. Personally, the emotion portrayed at a single C&C show is worth more than the pyrotechnics and flare of a hundred other band's performances.
