Charlie Hunter

This guy plays amazing bass lines on his 7 string and guitar chords and melodies all at the same time! His drummer is nothing less than phenomenal! Talent like this is indeed hard to find and his show is so enjoyable. I will continue to see him everytime he is in Phoenix.

The chemistry between Charlie & Eric Kalb was a priviledge to witness. This performance was the best I've ever attended at the Rhythym Room...perhaps the most rewarding performance I've ever experienced. At one point, Charlie started in on the 'Charleston'...at first, Eric Kalb and Shane Endsley sat back laughing and looking a bit confused. Once they jumped on board, the trio proceeded to blow our minds with a presentation that I'll be reminiscing until I die.

As a longtime listener to guitarist Charlie Hunter I join others at being amazed at his technique. Noted for being able to play bass and guitar notes at the same time via his special 7-string guitar, Hunter is just as notable for his creativity and surprise. Seeing him in person for the first time only confirmed my opinion. Not only did he play his standard fare of James Brown, Monk and Blues-influenced music but also included great arrangements of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Kansas City" (which most people close with when they come here). Drummer Eric Kalb and trombonist Curtis Fowlkes were also outstanding.

My first time at jazz alley, the food was great, the venue and acoustics perfect. I had a table in front of the stage. My first time seeing charlie Hunter live. Mr. Hunter pushes the boundries of jazz, he is simply amazing to watch. It is if he has 2 brains working simultanously. Heavy bass lines entertwined with artisticly complicated leads.A great show that I would highly reccomended. A Hanley
