Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS IN CONCERT:As pioneers of heartland rock in the late-'70s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers championed a no-frills, guitar-driven sound that set them apart from the increasingly technology-oriented approach of much of the era's pop music. Today Tom Petty & Co. are as relatable as ever, treating fans to their classic songs about working class issues and everyday American life with a passion and flair that belie their years. Whether Petty is dancing across the stage with a pair of maracas or lending his iconic voice to hits like "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," he and the band never fail to electrify at their live shows, and their 2014 tour dates with special guest Steve Winwood will be no different.

Unknown to any of us who attended this event, this would be the last show for TP&HB. What a great show he put on and I'll remember this for the rest of my days.

Unforgettable concert, especially now after Tom Petty's passing. From the opening act, until the fireworks at the end, this show was awesome. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had the entire crowd singing and no one wanted it to end. They played so many of their hits from the past 40 years. I feel so fortunate that I got to see them in concert. We had a couple in front of us dress up like the Don't Come Around Here No More video and everyone around us loved it! RIP Tom Petty. You will be missed.

First Red Rocks concert...venue didn't live up to the hype. Band was great when I could hear it. Fact I have to say "when I could hear it" says it all. Not greatest seats--row 55 on the end of the row--but the "there isn't a bad seat in the house" statement everyone kept telling me before the show is incorrect. I don't go to a concert to SEE the band...I go to HEAR the band.

Petty kicked off his tour at Red Rocks this year. Great show, he still can perform. However he should have come on sooner and his opening act should have finished sooner. Would have liked to see more "old" stuff but understand he is trying to also promote his new album that will be out.

I've seen TP&H a number of times and this show reminded me when I first saw them back in 1979. They opened strong and stayed that way throughout the show. The new material as well as older stuff was played with passion and intensity.

I have been to 3 TPHB shows in Tampa FL. From the moment Tom and the boys take the stage I have always been spell bound and could not sit for a moment. My friends and I always leave the concerts craving more. It is the desire for more unbelievable rock and roll that will bring me to the St. Pete Forum for yet another show. This time I went all out on the Mojo Package for myself and 3 of my friends. There is no doubt that I will get what I paid for and more. And this time I won't be in the nose bleed section. I will be on the floor. The only other thing I could possibly ask for is a backstage pass and an opportunity to meet the man and his band. So what do you say guys, maybe you could throw in a few of these for me and my friends?

The online concert was a great idea and worth the cost. Not only did I receive 48 live, rare, recordings but was supplied with many videos and interesting FAQS about the music and performers. I especially enjoyed the various cover songs like "Oh Well, Fleetwood Mac" and "Friend of the DEvil, The Grateful Dead".

Hi folks, Thanks for the opportunity to review my experience with the Superhighway Tour. I thought it was wonderful. I really enjoyed the historical commentary about each new song from the live show and the "live' comments of Tom, Benmont and Mike. I also enjoyed the reviews and I thought it was fun that you also included some of the reviews that were not so positive. All these things helped me appreciate what the actual moment was like. I didn't get much into the merchandise or the t shirts although I thought it was a nice touch - giving as much of the total experience as if we were actually attending a concert. And of course I loved the song selection. I have a lot of Tom's work and it was fun to hear them live and to also receive the live covers of "Friend of the Devil", etc. It gave me even more appreciation for their talent. Thanks to everyone involved in this project!

I have been coming back to this site over and over for the past few weeks getting new music and listening to band commentary, looking at old press and photos and cant believe how much stuff is here. I am not sure how they charge $24 for this. Maybe because it's digital, but every label should release their records this way. Makes iTunes LP look like a bad joke. Yesterday i got all 48 songs and cant stop listening on my iPod. This is awesome. Cool way to sell it on Ticketmaster. Great experience.

I have been a Heartbreakers fan my entire life. I remember being in grade school and my friends thinking I was weird because I listened to music their parents listened to. Having this collection of live performances is really cool. I cant wait to get the live anthology. I really enjoyed hearing Mike, Tom, and Benmont give their personal perspectives on the songs.

Having been to numerous TP shows over the last 30 years and NEVER being disappointed I was happy to see Tom and the Heartbreakers releasing a live album that was varied and showed the talent and strength of this band. I remember hearing those songs from the sixties done by the band and thinking not only are they true musicians but they love the music they grew up with. Releasing it like you did was cool and made each week fun as I looked forward to what was coming. Thanks Tom for sharing a big piece of your life with us again. You are the best band in the world and this live collection proves it. Keep rockin.

The Superhighway Tour was amazing. I've seen them live many times and know they sound great but hearing this just really drove that point home. Mr. Petty and his crew have once again set a new musical high. Not only did the quality of the music impress me, but how easy it was to navigate the web sight. I'm 22, and have been going to Petty shows since I was 8 years old. I've seen them 7 times and everytime the shows just keep getting better. You don't need any convincing, if you're a Petty fan you're a Petty fan, and there's nothing more to it!! Hands down the greatest performance during any single concert I've seen.. He's an amazing entertainer and his band is just as equal. You can't beat the 12-string guitar or Petty's amazing grace! ;) If you have a chance to see this living legend, I highly suggest you do, you won't regret it! And if you happen to show, look for me- I'm always in the first 10 rows :-P

If your a fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, don't miss their tour next time around. The band and Petty bring it for the fans. He sounds as good today as the day when their hits were at the top of the charts. A great sing a long concert. Petty directs his attention to all parts of the audience, from one end of the stage to the next. He is humble and thankful of his appreciative fans. A not to miss concert, I'll be there if he comes here again.

Our first Safeco Field stadium concert! Our 6th time seeing Petty since 1980! They just get better with age! Very lively show with the crowd singing along on almost every song.! Great song list. The sound glitch wasn't really a problem. It added to the excitement. The only problem was the late notice about no handbags. It would have been nice to know this a little ahead of time. But, no complaints. I hope they come back for another one. OUTSTANDING SHOW!

I am not a young person, so the 40th anniversary puts me back to my formative years- grew up with Tom Petty in all his iterations with and without the Heartbreakers. To say I have waited all my life to see this show is hardly an overstatement. I was happy to see all ages of people there, the youngest about 7- lil heartbreaker! Nice to be reminded that the world still rocks. Massive amounts of talent in this show, excellent lighting and effects, and Tom in a fine mood! One small glitch in the sound system had them silently performing one song, but it was quickly fixed after the song was over. A nice mix of songs throughout the decades, not just the ones played endlessly on repeat radio-Ooh, and ending fireworks!

This was my third time seeing Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and it was very disappointing. The acoustics at Safeco Field were terrible. If I didn't know the song I wouldn't know what he was singing. The camera person was bad as well. The Lumineers were great and so was the camera angles. I won't attend another concert at Safeco.

I forgot how prolific Mr. Petty was throughout the '90s. I was reminded on this tour as his songs from that era dominated the set list. Being more of a fan of his work from the decade before, I wish I could have heard more from that. I felt the on-screen visuals were a bit lacking. They could have done to play the music videos for the majority of the chart reaching songs as an easy and more stimulating go-to. At one extended point for a song we saw a close up of a microphone grill predominanting the screens. They had some good selections for tour merch and I bought a raglan style with the tour dates and the classic Petty and the Heartbreakers logo on it but they didn't have one smaller than a men's size small and it was a bit overpriced. Having said that, the sound was spot on. Tom and the gang were pitch perfect and the sound system and crew did a great mix.

This was my first Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers show, but hopefully not my last! Tom's voice was smooth like a vintage whiskey and the band never missed a beat. The stage set-up had just enough golf my on with the 'balloons' and video screens that it added to the show and wasn't a distraction. The sound at the Prudential Center was clear and the crowd was definitely into it! You can tell this band has been together for a long time - it's like someone you've known forever that can finish your sentences!

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers rocked the Hollywood Bowl Thursday evening for their opening concert in Los Angeles. Tom Petty s voice still sounds the same as he did in 1979 as he played hit after hit, Mike Campbell s guitar playing kept the crowd on their feet dancing and swaying to the incredible sounds he played. The other band members were sensational in keeping the music alive. We had a very fun evening at the fabulous Hollywood Bowl. So glad we got to see them for their 40th Year Anniversary Tour!

Peter Bogdanovich made a documentary about Tom Petty's 30th Anniversary concert back in 2006, when THAT seemed like a long time for a Rock and Roll band to still be relevant. Now, in 2017, Petty and the Heartbreakers are STILL out there playing the best music on Earth, with passion, with heart, and for 2 solid hours. Not only can they still rock, but Petty connects with the audience like no one I've ever seen. He can really work the crowd. Even though the Sacramento show was at the tail-end of this 6-month tour, the band killed it. I'm as old as Petty, and I don't have his energy, but I sure got energized by this show.

The opening act was a rock band called The Shelters, a band consisting of three male, electric guitarists and a drummer. One guitarist looked a lot like Dano from the Hawaii 50 tv series. Another looked like a young brunette version of Tom Petty. Together their songs were missing a basic melody to which their fancy guitar playing was intended to embellish. So we have an up and coming Bill & Ted band that needs to learn how to write and play a song. They took the stage promptly at 7:30PM and played until about 8:25. During this tour the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers band is making their last national tour after 41 years. And after a week delay from laryngitis and bronchitis, they finall took the stage at about 9:00pm and played for 1 hour and 50 minutes (see set list). The set was followed by 1 encore of two songs. The band started off with the first song off its very first album Rockin Around with You and ended the encore with the last song from its first album American Girl . Tom Petty was wearing a grey suit and red shirt. As the night wore on it occurred to me that something was amiss about Tom s appearance. He appeared to be wearing a wig (aka Michael Jackson style only blond). During the last five years, like his bandmates his hair began to grey and thin somewhat. His bandmates still looked that way. His voice seemed to pour through the songs without effort until toward the end of the set when he kept reaching for throat spray in addition to the liquid drink after nearly every song. The other thing that was very clever and unique about this show was the overhead lighting. An assemble of large bulbs that would go up, and down, and even appear in a wave like pattern, all while changing colors \u2026..it created a very cool ambiance that enhanced the music in a unique way. Kept to a minimum were fancy and extended videos that other acts use to enhance their effect. Clearly in this show the focus was going to be on performing the music and not a side show. Many older artists play some often unheard songs to mix it up for the band. I could think of a lot of other songs that would have kept the house constantly rocking vs four obscure numbers from its second album Wildflowers. Song highlights that the crowd at Golden 1 really rallied around were Forgotten Man , I Won t Back Down , Running Down a Dream , and the last song American Girl Overall the songs were very, very well played. The mix of outstanding guitar playing, harmonica, great familiar melodies, coupled with the unique Tom Petty voice and cool lighting, make the show both cool, rocking, and unique. One final note\u2026..the last three cities on the tour\u2014Berkeley,, Sacramento, and Los Angeles were not part of the announced official tour and the locations do not appear on t-shirts, etc, which is very odd to omit his largest fan base\u2026.This makes me wonder if Tom Petty s retirement will be like Bob Segar and other older acts, performing shows mostly closer to home and fewer in number overall\u2026if so we hope he returns soon.

Tom Petty's voice sounded fantastic. The weather couldn't have been better. I love a lot of the Heartbreakers covers, but this set was pure Petty. Band was playing extremely tight and rockin' out. Ran into the band minus Tom on the way in, nice moment. All in all a great show with great floor seats, usher said they were the best seats in the house. Great audience, great show, all in all a nice experience.

Thouroughly enjoyed the performance. His voice is great, the band was so good. Played all the best of the best songs. The video screen was super clear, the sound synced perfectly. Went to his show last May in West Palm Beach and the performance was of course, good, but audio and visuals were totally screwed up and I didn't have a good seat, so was especially pleased with the Sacramento show. Golden One Arena is a great venue. So glad to have been able to see him again this year.

Of course the Greek is the best place to see anybody IMO if you have good seats which we did in the handicap corral. Like 20 feet from stage left. They performed absolutely every song you want to hear, only one or two new songs. His voice was the same as I remember from decades ago (this is 40th Anniversary tour), even though our show was postponed for 3 days due to him recovering from laryngitis (no problemo, I'll wait for you any day Tom!). TP&TH remain on my Top 10 list of favorite shows. My pix are not very good, I don't know how to change settings on my new phone/camera yet. Plus he turns his back to audience a lot. It was hard to get a pic of his face.

What a fantastic 40 year anniversary show! You know there are rumors it is his last tour but you know how many rock stars say this. "...the last big one, Petty said." Greek Theatre, always enjoy concerts there; best venue. Two hours of hits, sing along, Free Falling and just good ole rock and roll from excellent musicians. Mike Campbell on guitar blew me away. Best show I've seen this year!

Like a 40 year old bottle of red from NorCal TP and the band were locked in start to finish, perfect weather, happy crowd and a stroll thru time hit after hit after hit. Thank you Tom, the journey has been amazing. Cheers!

I saw Tom last in Portland for his Echo tour- missed him at the Gorge and was not going to let this happen again so I booked the tickets and hotel in February as soon as I saw he was coming to Seattle!

Great night of Rock n' Roll. Do not miss this show ....drove 500 miles round trip and it was all worth it. Two great performers and the Heartbreakers have been together forever for a reason....incredible sound and they just seem to feed off each other and have fun while really laying down great tunes.

What an awesome Saturday night concert. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers celebrating their 40th Anniversary and with special guest Joe Walsh. Joe Walsh performed a full 60 minute set of many of his beloved songs including a tribute to Glen Frey. He and his band were fantastic and I could have ended the night with him and have been totally satisfied. Next Tom and the Heartbreakers carried the night on for another two solid hours of incredible music. Wow. They played virtually every song that I could remember from their extensive playlist, and they sounded as good as they did when those songs were first released. For those of you seeing them in other cities, you are in for a huge treat!!

I'm not going to pick apart the set list. There are alot of changes I would have made. I got no problem with Tom and the boys hitting the stage 15 minutes late and fresh off a back stage party. It was their 40 year anniversary, anyway. This was the 5th time I've seen Petty and his Heartbreakers, and although there's been better performances, I got my money's worth. Especially due to solo Eagle Joe Walsh's epic set, which made the headliner act, an actual double-bill gem of a show. I have nothing but admiration and respect for both these guys, and 40+ years into their careers they still do not disappoint. I'm just happy I got to see both of them maybe one last time. RIP Howie and Glenn. Rock on from wherever you are.

I have to admit that I actually enjoyed Joe Walsh a little more than Tom Petty. Would love to have Tom's purple jacket. Petty slowed things down too much in the middle, felt the show lost momentum during that time. Should start off slow and continually rev things up. Overall a good night.

A great evening with Tom and his band. His first Florida stop in WPB on the 40th Anniversary was a performance well worth the price of admission. The largest crowd I've ever seen at the Fairgrounds turned into a massive sing-a-long with every song. It was truly a sight to behold.

The bill with Joe Walsh and Tom Petty together is a match made in Heaven! These two just show that old rockers never die, they just get better and better! Joe Walsh had crazy energy and had the crowd on their feet and then they roared back to life the instant Tom Petty took the stage! Tom Petty looked slick as can be in true rockstar form wearing his shades with his hair blowing in the fans ... he had a light show that was just great ... we dubbed it "Tom Petty's Magic Balls" ... this series of round lights floated up and down above the stage in different patterns and colors all night and really added to the ambience of the show. I'd go see these guys again in a heartbeat!
