REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon achieved grand success few could have imagined following a chance meeting between founding members Neal Doughty and Alan Gratzer, who were college students at the University of Illinois in 1966. They chose the band’s moniker from the REO Speed Wagon, a flatbed truck Doughty had learned of in history class, with the initials of its founder, Ransom E. Olds. Constant gigging helped them gain a strong foothold as a live act, but it wasn’t until 1970, upon Gary Richrath’s inclusion, that the band gained vast regional popularity.

I have seen all three bands several times. I absolutely LOVE these three band packages. .38 Special did an awesome job playing the hits with more energy than I've seen from them in years; REO did one of the best sets I've seen from them in years as well, and STYX was phenominal!! JY was more front and center in this show than any other time I've seen the band, and Tommy showed his usual energy and excitement. I heartily recommend this show to anyone who loves rock and roll!!!

My main purpose for attending this function was to see/hear Styx as they have been a long-time favortie of mine (since childhood). The added bonus was the performances by 38 Special and REO Speedwagon. They really rocked...and they sounded fantastic. With the expectation set ever so high with these two performances...Styx came on and blew it out of the park. I couldn't be happier with the show. The Arena was great and seats were roomy. I was first a little upset with having been placed up so high (as I had requested the best available seats months before) and noticed that lower level seats close to the stage were empty. But I had a bird's eye view of the show (very close to stage) and it was great!!

Thank goodness Styx and Din Felder opened for Reo because they were awesome. When Reo come out we thought the sound system was messed up on the first song , so we gave it another song. It wasn t the sound system, it was Reo. You couldn t even understand what they were singing. Me and my group of five were so disappointed. We got up and left along with hundreds of more people after the second song. Again, Styx and Don Felder were awesome but if you re going just for Reo then I would advise staying home!

Don Felder took the stage first and he was awesome! Listening to the old Eagles songs and singing along was a fun way to kick off an evening of classic rock. Next, Styx took the stage and I mean TOOK the stage. They have to be the most energetic band I have ever seen in concert. Watching them sing and dance across the stage made me want to get up and dance and sing in the aisle with them. Lastly, REO Speedwagon took over. Unfortunately, their audio was definitely not up to par. I saw them switch out microphones several times, but the audio was still terrible! In fact, people were starting to leave and the entire row in front of me emptied out rather quickly. Such a shame really cause I really loved them and would have really enjoyed hearing them sing. All in all, a great way to spend a Friday night and if you ever get a chance to see any of these bands, you should definitely go!

Felder was simply awesome. Great mix brought out all of the instruments and vocals. He surrounded himself with first-class players and singers and you could tell that from the first notes played and sung. The band was tight and their set was flawless. They enjoyed being there and it showed. I will say the same about Styx. Flawless vocals and playing. The keyboard player was full of energy and his vocals were probably the hardest part of the band. Not quite a DeYoung imitation, but wow did he blend in well with JY and Shaw. They could have played all night on just their catalog, but they did the hits and a couple from the new album which I'll probably pick up. REO Speedwagen dropped the energy a bit. My wife hit it on the head when she said it sounded like the mix was off. Vocals were muffled and hard to understand if you didn't already know the words. The backing vocals were really hard to hear and way too much treble. I don't know how you can have two acts before you with perfect mix that includes some of the best rock guitar players to ever plug into an amp to an act that sounded more like an opening act with rookie soundboard operators. REO can and should be able to do better. The venue is good. Decent size for a good loud crowd, yet not too big where it can't be filled. It's an old facility but it is kept very clean by the City of Huntington. My only hit on the venue is after the show they make EVERYONE exit through the main front doors. This bottlenecks a lot of drunk people near very expensive magnetometers. On the way to these front doors, you walk right past two sets of 10 fire exit doors which aren't alarmed, but staffed with security that do not allow exiting. I would think they would want people to exit as quickly and efficiently as possible so they can get the place cleaned quicker then send everyone home.

Best concert ever. My first one? Nope, I'm in 50's and I've seen most classic rock bands. It wasn't just any one of them, it was the combination. Don Felder started and was amazing. Members of Styx and REO came out and played along side,BECAUSE Don is that assume! After Don I thought it can't get better. I was wrong. Styx came out and well, it kept building. Then REO came on and just brought the whole house down. I just can't put into words how great it was. All three groups are classic rockers that are still in their prime. I KNOW!!! Just go if you can.

Our first time seeing REO Speedwagon in concert and we were pleased to hear all the old familiar songs we grew up listening to. Not only was the set list amazing but the energy level from the band was off the charts. Very interactive with all the fans, moving around every inch of the stage and engaging with the audience. We never sat down once. The night ended with a tribute to Tom Petty which was done very well. The only disappointing thing was that the first five rows or so could hear none of the vocals only the instruments. I had noticed that there were speakers missing at the front of the stage which I have seen at other concerts. I'm wondering if that had to do with it. We had front row seats and had to strain to hear what the band was singing. I hope they get that worked out for future shows.

I love them in my younger days so I couldn t wait to hear them live with hit songs like Can t Fight the Feeling, Take it on the Run and Keep on Loving You. Well those are the three songs that I like. Anyway I noticed the singer can t sing as good as before due to the aging vocal cords. And he preached a lot too, taking up 10 minutes at a time to preach about something. Initially we couldn t hear his voice because of the loud instruments but it was ok after the sound engineer tweaked the controls. Overall it was good concert.

My night with REO was one I will never forget! I ordered my VIP ticket in February from Ticketmaster. Had to wait 9 long months for the concert, but it was worth it. REO had a meet and greet before the show and I got to get a picture of me with the band. This was a once in a lifetime experience!! REO always puts on a FANtastic show. I was able to enjoy the show with Richard and Lynn Rudy, who were my High School classmates from 40 years ago! I hope to see them again at the Effingham Performance Center, in Effingham, IL. EPC is a great venue. The Staff and Security is always helpful, and a safe place to enjoy all concerts!

Last time I saw REO Speedwagon was in 1985 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. They were amazing then, and I can honestly say they were better now. We were closer to the band, they enjoy doing the show, and you get to see the facial expressions and joy of the music. They sound almost studio quality. One of the best and most fun live shows I know of. If you are an REO fan at all, you will not be the slightest bit disappointed. Was nice to revisit my youth one more time with one of the greatest bands that defined the 70s and 80s. Thank you REO for an amazing and exciting evening!!!!

The venue was the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, AZ and without a doubt, probably the best venue to see a concert. The theater seats surround the stage, which happens to revolve and you always get a great shot of the performers. If you're as lucky as me, sit in the first 10 rows, however the furtherest seat is fifty yards-ish from the stage. Acoustics are excellent. As for REO, I have seen them at least 3X's each year for the last 8-10 years and their shows are top shelf and high energy. I don't even know why they puts seat out because everyone jumps around especially me. This year they added quite a few changes to the song line up and added "Stranglehold" which Dave Amato played when he was with Nuggent. He is excellent. Bruce Hall (bass) sang his hit "back on the road" which always brings the crowd to their feet. Drummer Hitt is a madman, nuff said. Neil, (keyboards) anchors the band to perfection. As for Kevin Cronin, he is a quintessential frontman. My next stop is Chicago and Milwaukee. I suspect Milwaukee will be better than Chicago because I know the venue and I get to jump around and be with other drunk Speedwagon fans.

How joyous it was to attend another show by REO Speedwagon. Kevin was a great host as always. There was commentary about Gary Richrath passing this last year, I will never forget him, and the many times I saw him play. How fitting that Kevin mentioned the concert goers in Paris who were murdered by cowards. Then played Riding the Storm Out. It is hard for me to write anything bad because I have loved REO and their music for over 35 years. That is the really cool thing about watching them play, it takes you right back to the day you first heard them play. I am one fan who "Can't fight this feeling any longer" because I know my days are numbered, and so are the days of REO playing gigs. As long as they can come and play, I will be there to rock my ass off, and sing along with them.

I have seen REO Speedwagon approximately 20 times over the last 30 years. But, I was fearful this might be my last show. I had seen them perform a couple of years ago with Styx in Evansville, IN. At that show, REO certainly seemed to be going through the motions with very little energy. It appeared they were on the verge of retirement if they had to play "Take It On The Run" one more time. So, my expectations were somewhat tepid heading into this show. Fortunately, my fears were for naught as REO clearly were back on their "A" game playing all of their hits, plus some favorites not heard live in years. Perhaps the highlight of the show wasn't even an REO Speedwagon song, it was when Dave Amato broke into Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" that nearly brought the house down.

Kevin Cronin, Neil Doughty & Bruce Hall lead the way as REO still rocks the house like they've been doing since the 1970's. They just come out and hit it hard, laying down classic tracks, the band sounds great! I grew up with REO Live and this was a sweet homage to my high school days. It figured that 157 Riverside Avenue would be the final encore and it was, but it was REO playing Stranglehold that blew our minds for the night!

My sister & I attended the REO Speedwagon concert at Harrah's in Biloxi, MS. The band rocked and we had a wonderful time. If you purchase VIP tickets for just a few dollars more, it allows you front stage access and includes beer, water, cold drinks and finger food. They played just about every song that I wanted them to play. There were a couple they missed, but they only had a couple of hours so I was happy. I haven't seen them since I was a teenager back in Spokane, WA and boy did their show bring back some memories!! ;-) I had never been to the Majestic Theater before, but now that I have been I will know better in the future. The solid wall to our immediate left made me feel VERY claustrophobic, and talk about being in a nosebleed section. I assumed incorrectly that there was only going to be some sort of railing to our left, and I also assumed that the concert was going to be much more sold out than it was. Thankfully, the usher told us that once the show started, we could move down to other open seats on the condition that if someone came in late with tickets for them, we would have to move again. So we moved down about 7 or 8 rows right before the show started and that allowed me to enjoy the show much better. In the future I will know not to EVER buy seats up that high again in the Majestic... See picture below of view from those seats.

Great show! Great concert! I have seen this band numerous times over the years and have never been disappointed with the show. If you have never seen REO in concert do yourself a favor and go see them, you will enjoy the show. This is a band that loves their fans and they show it! Thanks REO for the show! And, remember ... Keep Pushin!

They played all of their hits AND included stuff from their early days - Golden Country, Son of a Poor Man, Lightning, Like You Do, Back on the Road Again, etc. The three remaining members of the band (Cronin, Hall, Doughty) may be sportin some (well alot) of gray hair, but they proved to Del Mar they can still rock like they did in the 70's & 80's! I hope to see them again!

I've lost count of the number of times we've seen seen these two bands. They are also my 15 year old son's favorite bands. We will go see them ANY time they are in town.

Saturday early evening beautiful day in St. Louis we rode our bikes to the show and took our seats as Uncle Ted took the stage. A little difficult to see due to the sun glare on the stage, jumbotrons and our seats in left jj but no problem hearing him! Styx took it up a notch and delivered a stellar performance not missing a beat or vocal. A hard act to follow but REO is just the band to do it. Kevin Cronin is an outstanding vocalist and entertainer and along with the band transported me back to high school. Buy your tickets and get on board you won't regret it.

The venue staff did an excellent job getting everyone in for the show and even better directing them out. We had excellent seats. The outside venue was great! Uncle Teddy, Styx and Reo Speedwagon were fantastic. If you get a chance to catch the show...please do. You won't be sorry you did. I haven't had that much fun in years.

I loved the concert and I think the line up went perfect and in a timely manner. Sound and stage was great! Seating was bad elbow to elbow, knee to chair in front of you.

I didn't think you could have a bad concert, but the REO SPEEDWAGON concert was a negative 10!!!!! I was so hyped and excited for this concert only to be severely let down! Not only could you not understand the words they were singing, but you couldn't understand when they spoke. It was extremely distorted. I recorded many clips just so I could show how bad the sound was. Very upset and deserve a refund!

For a bunch of 60+ rockers, the boys from REO still know how to do it. They played with the same energy they had when I last say them a decade ago.

Fans of REO are NEVER disappointed! After 30+ years, the band still gives 100%! All the classics, from each decade, were performed flawlessly, with high energy, and a visible appreciation for the audience.

There was some confusion over the line-up, and many (other) sources said Styx and Ted Nugent were part of the set.... sadly they weren't. The venue was great - so easy to get in and out, and the stadium was great.

They still sound great and played for just shy of two hours! Kevin - the lead singer - recognized my daughter and I right away from the Rick Springfield and Friends Cruise. Seats were good and they were great!

Ted Nugent, Styx and REO Speedwagon what a great line up. Its no surprise Ted Nugent rocked as he always has, in fact before seeing the concert I would have thought of him as closing out the night. Instead he was the opening act of the 3. Styx played 2nd. They started their set with Blue Collar Man and took off from there. They really got the audience pumped up and involved singing their greatest hits along with them like, fooling youself, Lorali, Lady and ending with Rockin in Paradise and Renegade. I was wishing it would never end!! REO speedwagon had the final set and sadly could not top Styx. I'm not saying thet weren't good but Styx proved to be a tough act to follow. They opened with Don't let him go and what felt like a short version of Take It On The Run. I really think this song should have been used very late or as an encore. The lighting system was great and their drummer was great as well. But Styx brought down the house!! What a wonderful night overall all 3 bands were great and I feel really lucky to have spent a night watching all 3!!!

My son and I really enjoyed the concert. We got the tickets to see Ted, but our president didn't allow it. I hope to see Ted in the future. BOC happened to be a group I had not seen live. They were very good.

The show at Fort Knox was very good and I know most of you will see Ted Nugent with your show but he was canned at the military base because of his point of views with the president so we saw Blue Oyster Cult with ours. Styx has gotten better over the years with the presence on stage and dedication. They have everything it takes to keep going for at least 5 years longer and there replacement keyboardist is amazing. Reo Speedwagon was good but they were a little off the night they played there. A couple of mistakes that most people wouldn't notice and vocals were not as good due to the lack of volume I think on the people running the sound. He had to try to sing a lot louder than he should to be heard over the music. I would recommend the show to anyone just for pure rock and roll and maybe REO will get there sound man to turn there vocals up.

Fun night! I had real good seats (3rd row), but security was letting people stand in the open area in front of the stage, so that's where I ended up (which meant not leaving my spot to get a beer, but that was OK). Pretty much a greatest hits set list, which is what the crowd (me included) wanted. Show was sold out, the crowd was really energetic, and the band totally fed off that energy. They wrapped up the 'set' with Roll With The Changes. They hadn't yet played Keep on Loving You or Riding The Storm Out, so you knew what the encore was going to be. But after they came back and played those two classics, they closed the encore with a cover of Ted Nugent's Stranglehold! Don't know if they've been doing that the entire tour, or whether it was a treat for the crowd being so awesome ... either way, great way to close the show
