Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara

Canadian indie rock darlings Tegan and Sara are a double threat in more ways than one – they’re both talented singer-songwriters, both multi-instrumentalists, and yes, they’re identical twins. With the 2013 release of their seventh album Heartthrob, the duo topped the album charts for the first time and achieved their first No. 1 single with infectious electro-pop hit “Closer”. True to the ethos of indie rock, the sisters’ path to success has been decidedly DIY – their early demos were made in their high school’s recording studio, and their 1999 debut album Under Feet Like Ours was released independently.

It was amazing being able to hear them play the Con in it's entirety. I honestly didn't know it was an acoustic tour that I'd gotten tickets for. The show had all the classic Tegan and Sara banter you could ask for and it was refreshing to hear all those tracks stripped down from the high production sound they normally come with, especially in recent years. All in all, it was a perfect throwback, and a once in a lifetime T&S show.

The Con was the soundtrack to every ugly heartbreak we endured a decade ago. It was fun sitting with our children who were waiting for "Closer" while we reminisced about days we are glad are behind us, and strangely grateful for the Quinn sisters and their ability to share their very relatable stories. These songs made us whole when it felt like our young adult hearts would never heal and we thought no one else could ever understand. We're even more grateful for music that crosses the generational divide between us and our much cooler daughters.

I saw the duo several years ago for the "Heartthrob" album. This created a pretty high expectation as that show was phenomenal. Unfortunately, this show just wasn't quite on that level. Thematically I get that they're matching "love you to death" but it just all kind of felt like a chinsy dance remix of everything. From the opening canned track of a pointer sisters cover to the sterile synth plodding of an all electronic opening of "back in your head", it just kind of lacked life. Also the acoustics where we were standing (right side, behind bannister where it's slightly elevated)were far worse than I anticipated. It was nearly all kick drum and sub bass, so that didn't help. That being said, I'll still see them again.

Tegan and Sara put on one of the best live performances out there! Amazing music that can really get the crwod pumped and they tell funny stories inbetween songs. They conect with their audience like no one else. You will be laughing, singing, smiling, and dancing the whole time.

I just started listening to their music and was immediately drawn in by their one-of-a-kind sound. Their concert certainly did not disappoint either. The venue lent itself well to seeing the awesome twosome in a more personal setting. I had a bad experience standing in the bar, being stuck next to a drunk group of women looking to pick a fight, but even that couldn't ruin the evening. Tegan and Sara sound awesome live, and their witty, and sarcastic sense of humor during the show makes their stage presence that much more captivating. I would totally go see them again.

This was my first concert I've ever been to so I was excited that they were my first! The concert itself sold out so I knew the place was going to be packed. I really enjoyed myself and was glad I went! I guess the only downside I can think of is it was standing room only which really isn't a problem until you have to move after standing for an hour and a half! Their banter in between songs was hilarious as always. As for the venue itself, it was packed, but not to the point where you couldn't move around at least a little. There was a good few hundred people altogether. Good audio setup and lighting, nothing too over-the-top. Just a very, very awesome show in any and every way!! Can't wait for their new album and will definitely be at their next show here!

Tegan and Sara always put on the best pop/rock concert for my money. They're always funny, witty, charismatic and they rock hard. Some of the most brilliant songs written since The Beatles. Can't wait to hear the new album in October.

Tegan & Sara played at the Showbox at the Market in Seattle on July 3, 2009. Their set was a mix of more recent songs and older favorites. The set was energetic and unforgettable. These ladies are incredible performers any time I've ever seen them live (about five times in several different cities). They are also quite funny when they talk in between playing. It was a very enjoyable night!

I have seen T&S many times over the past few years as they how traveled through Seattle. Each show has been filled with its own unique energy. This was no different. I did however have a few issues with the show. First the opening act (I deliberately forgot his name) was painful to hear. But know I do know what a seizure sounds like. My next issue was not with T&S, but some of the drunk fans in the crowd. Part of T&S show and thier charm is the witty banter. Having a few drunks shout out "Play some Music" was not only rude, but it showed how much they really didn't get what T&S were trying to do...bad audience. Nevertheless, despite these things, T&S still had their raw energy and a couple nice variants on the hits. I wish they would have dropped a few new tracks on us, maybe to wet our apetite a bit for the forthcoming albumn. Overall, it was a very enjoyable show, but not their best.

This is the third time I've seen Tegan and Sara. The show was sold out. The opener, Astronautalis, was a white rapper with more interesting banter than actual songs. I think the crowd was pretty good to him considering they were all there to see Tegan and Sara and his music wasn't like theirs at all. Tegan and Sara's set was fairly balanced between older songs and songs from "The Con." I was hoping they would play one of their new songs that they just finished recording, but they only played previously released material. They did talk about the new record a little bit. Apparently they demoed 50 songs for it and chose 15.

I knew they were good, but this was amazing. Their opening act was good, which got us pumped for them. When they came on they didn't just sing the songs and that was it. Not like that would be bad but they also talked to us, told some jokes and just had fun with it. These two are true artists and I would recommend them to anyone, even if they have no idea who they are!

My daughter and I made the trek to Pittsburgh from Altoona to Stage AE, a venue that I had never previously been to. It s a moderately sized place with a sunken concrete floor, space behind that with a bar and a wrap around balcony. It s designed for general admission versus theater style seating. I m not that great at estimating crowd size, but my guess is that there were between 2 and 3 thousand folks there. We were drawn to attend this show, not by the headliners but out of our love of the music of Torres, who opened. We had seen her earlier this year when she headlined the small club, Club Cafe. The two settings were vastly different. Stage AE offered her a larger stage and theater style lighting which helped emphasize her dramatic songs. But I must confess that I missed the intimacy of standing mere feet away from her and being able to look her directly in the eyes the way I had before. As the opening act, she was limited to a 40 minute set. I was a little surprised that it contained a large portion of newly written material and that she limited her back-repertoire to just 4 songs. But my lack of familiarity didn t stop me from loving her performance. She did play her best known song Sprinter but did not perform Proper Polish Welcome or The Harshest Light , as I d hoped. But hey, I witnessed those last time. At times being the first act on a bill where the headliner has a rabid following can be a thankless task. Happily, Torres really seemed to connect with the audience and picked up some new fans. I had next to no familiarity with the music of Tegan and Sara going in and was almost shocked when I experienced it. I d *assumed* they d be kind of and indie/folky duo. Man did I have that wrong. They played a brand of synth-pop that recalls the music of the early/mid 1980 s. Their show contains high production values, elaborate lighting cues and a bit of choreography. Their songs are mostly of the romantic variety. However as they are both openly gay, the lyrics have a very lesbian point of view. I found this very refreshing. I came away impressed with their music and look forward to investigating it further. The best came at the end. After T&S left the stage and as the crowd was begging an encore, Brianne and I made our way to the merchandise booth in hope that Torres might drop by. Then suddenly we were right next to her as she was making her way there. We told her how much we loved her performance. She was very sweet and gracious and I was tickled that she remembered us from January.

My girlfriend and I had such a great time. I'd never been to this part of Madison Square Garden--it was a small, close-knit subvenue. Security was great, and it was overall an unforgettable night. As always, Tegan and Sara are incredible and so down-to-earth. <3

The Tegan and Sara concert was absolutely a dream come true. I fell in love with their music while serving overseas, active duty in the US Army. I bought my tickets minutes after going on sale. I have only been to the venue once, about 8-10 years ago and outside. My only gripe is the lack of knowledge of staff and lack of care for disabled customers. They put me in a really bad mood from the start. Then the opening band (Torres) made me want to leave, or kill myself. But boy oh boy was it worth it once Tegan and Sara came on. And they kept the energy high the entire time. I'm still giving the event 5 stars because I really wanted to give 4.5 since the horrible first 2 hours weren't Tegan and Sara's fault. But I'd rather give 5 than 4.

Overall experience is honestly up through the roof! The only comment I have is the timeline on the show... the opening acts didn't start until almost 1.5 hours after listed event time which pushed all upcoming acts and performers later. Usually on a standing concert it's bearable for a good number of hours unless all other acts are being pushed later. Overall it was fun as expected. Love seeing this duo perform all the time.

The girls were phenomenal. Although banter time was cut, the entire show was lovely and not a moment was wasted. The sound system was great, especially up front. I was hoping to hear a song or two from Sainthood, but nonetheless the set list was wonderful. The acoustic version of The Con was just mind blowing. Tegan and Sara are seriously so beautiful, talented, and funny. The audience was respectful (except for the few who wouldn't stop screaming while Sara talked!) and sweet, I didn't experience any shoving around me and everyone seemed so friendly. Hands down, a remarkable show from my favourite artist!

Such a great concert. I'm a big fan now. The opening acts, especially Lucius, were awesome. It's always nice discovering great music you didn't know existed. T+S themselves were great. They played a long set that was a mix of old favorites and stuff from Heartthrob. Small venue is definitely the way to go to see them. We were only 5 rows of people back, so I was able to take some clear pictures. If you're a fan, you must see them live!

Overall, it was a great show and I really enjoyed it! It was worth traveling for as well. Drove 5 hours to St. Louis. LOVED IT! They did the Passion Pit version of Alligator which was really good, I liked it! Also, they played medley of songs which they mixed a bunch of their older songs together. I've been to a lot of concerts and this is the second time I've seen tegan and Sara live. This show is far better than the first one just because of the energy of them and the crowd. At first Tegan looked super tired the first few songs but I don't blame her, they have been on tour for awhile. I loved their medley of the songs so much because it was a brilliant idea. You always want to hear that one song that would make your night. They made my night with all of them! Granted, it would have been awesome if they played Morgan Page-bodywork or a version of it, but the entire show was perfect. My wife and I adore them and consider them the soundtrack to our relationship :)

Tegan and Sara were really great, they connected with their fans, were exciting, and funny. Overall their performance was outstanding! The opening band was awesome as well. The commendatory of the fans as well was astounding! I've been to a few concerts were fights break out just because someone bumped another, but here everyone seemed at ease despite the small space. A person in front of me who was rather tall gave up their spot and moved toward the back so that us shorties could see, that was great. I'm not sure where to start! How about at the end? Tegan and Sara are one of the best live performers I have ever seen. Their charm and wit kept the entire crowd captivated and singing the whole night. They played a wonderful arrangement of songs (old and new) and it went by far too quickly. I've been a fan of tns for over ten years.I'm in the military so something always comes up when they play near me. This was my first live concert with them. I drove 7 hours through the terrible snow (normally a 3.5 hour drive) just to see them. IT WAS AMAZING. I cried during one of their songs because it was THAT good. I hope they return to The National later on so that the next time I can be first in line and be closer to the stage. I also hope the next time they come around I can bring my fiance (who is deployed at the moment) because the show is well worth the drive and the weather. Thanks for making my whole year!! Hope to see them again!!!

For driving six hours just to get to Montreal from Canandaigua, I was very hyped for this concert and had hoped that Tegan and Sara would be as perfect as I'd imagined they'd be. They proved with their witty conversations between songs, humor and crowd interactions that they are one of the top bands to see live at the moment. Being that Sara lives in Montreal, it seemed personal to her and she did show signs of nostalgia, as they've been on the road a lot, recently. The mood was set with the chilly weather and brittle snow storm. A concert couldn't have been more perfect with near spot on vocals and a wonderful venue with great service. As they are supporting Heartthrob early, I did expect to see some of the newer tunes, aside from Closer, and I have to say that my anticipation for the album skyrocketed, and this album could be their best work yet. For being in the industry for about 15 years or so, Tegan and Sara prove that they make quality music, and they're still so young, only 32 years old, yet they both look like juniors in college. I just can't explain how much I was thrilled to see them and hope they tour Western New York soon, so I don't have to drive so far again. Although I loved Montreal, the mood there was peaceful and everyone is just so attractive. My consensus of the trip is that it was definitely worth it.

tegan and sara are awesome performers all around. they played a pretty even selection of songs from their past 3 albums, interacted with the audience, told stories and bantered back and forth like they're known to do. sara was really quiet at this show but tegan chatted quite a bit. it's worth going to one of their shows for the crowd alone. big lgbt hipster attraction and generally fun, interesting people. the openers were fairly good too. holly miranda is kind of typical but still a good performer. steel train was alright but didn't do much for me personally. just a really fun show and environment overall, if you have a chance to go see T&S definitely do.

Although we were not crazy about steel train, the opening act (Holly Miranda) was very good. The lead singer has a haunting voice and I wish their set would have been much longer. Wonderfully talented group. Tegan and Sara commanded the stage and were charismatic as always while playing a good mix of old and new songs. Absolute perfection. Tegan and Sara played all of the audience's favorite songs as the crowd loudly sang along. Tegan even had the audience participate during one song and sing a couple of bars ourselves. Tegan and Sara's vocals and guitars were pitch perfect. Tegan's rapport with the audience was witty and wonderful...she joked at one point about being a "greatest hits" band before launching into a great mixture of material spanning their impressive catalog. I can't gush enough about how great Tegan and Sara were.... I also liked the intimate atmosphere of the Pavilion...however, many people in the crowd were complete jerks. There were quite a few rather large guys trying to impress their girlfriends by roughing up people far smaller than them. I figured the crowd would be more laid back at this concert but that was far from the truth. It put a damper on what should have been a perfect night.

One of the greatest things to attend is a Tegan & Sara concert. Usually, when not under the weather, they're hilarious. When under the weather, they still know how to work their charm and provide the audience with great music and hilarious exchanges. From Sara's comment about the recession and how it apparently has no affect on the price of bras and underwear in the States as it does in Canada, to Tegan's invite to Oprah to attend the show, the performances were awesome. Every Tegan and Sara fan loves the interaction and we love it when they tend to mess up. Tegan said that she jumped the gun on two songs and asked for the audience to be understanding that she took cold meds before the show. I've attended many different shows but this is by far the best. This band is so raw and real and caring and gracious. They're very talented and make great choices for opening bands. Holly Miranda and Steel Train have both gained a new fan from the March 26th Chicago show.

I absolutely love Holly Miranda since the first time I heard her in the Jealous Girlfriends and she didn't fail to amaze me on Friday. Her sweet and sultry voice and amazing lyrics did not disappoint. As for Tegan & Sara their shows never let anyone down, from joking around with the fans throwing beer cups on stage, to them joking about how they wish we threw hugs at them. This show had a wonderful Opening middle and ending act and I would most definitely go see another show on the second leg of the tour, and Holly Miranda anytime.

The show was terrible. Tegan Sara were either fighting, or they simply do not enjoy live music, or they have poor management and don't know how to put on a rocking show. The visual effects, like lighting, were terrible and did not complement their awesome music. Both Tegan and Sara went on 2-3 minute verbal lashings of the crowd for throwing things. After each song Sara, or was it Tegan, thanked the audience for their applause in a not so well hidden sarcastic tone. Their music is great, but their showmanship it terrible. I recommend they go see Rivers Cuomo rock a live a concert, connect with the crowd, and create a memorable experience so that they too can enjoy doing a live show. I was super excited to see them, bought tickets three months ago, and I could have left early. The venue was awesome. There was ZERO connection to the crowd.

They played a set of about 25 songs, including a good mix of old and new. They sounded great and took artistic license with a few of their songs that worked really well (like using a xylophone instead of a keyboard for an acoustic version of "Back in Your Head"). They have a great stage presence that is funny, sweet and real. I enjoyed the spontaneous banter between the sisters that is obviously done with love. At one point Tegan announced that she had to go pee and asked if we would mind if she left for a few minutes to pee. We all said sure, and she left for a few minutes. While she was gone, Sara said, "My dream band". During another song, Sara forgot the music and Tegan teased her while also coaching her back to the song. My wife and I were among the oldest at the concert, we are 41 and 39 respectively. Their fan base seems to be mostly women in their 20s, but their music appeals beyond age and gender. I think they are amongst the best and most underrated artist today, and if you get a chance to see them on this tour, especially while they are still doing small venues, I would take it. I saw U2 last fall, a great concert in a huge venue. I would have loved to have seen U2 in a small venue. Tegan and Sara are that good.

Reverie
I have followed Tegan and Sara for years and this was my first live show. In one word, AMAZING! The hundreds of youtube videos did not equal up to the quality of their performance live. First and foremost, the crew maneuvered like a well-oiled machine. Time b/n sets equaled maybe 5 min, and I barely got a blink in before the tradeoff of T&S's guitars b/n songs. Second, the fanbase was one of the friendliest I have ever encountered. Waiting in line in the cold for hours certainly goes by quicker when you find yourself surrounded by new found friends. Third, the small venue of Variety Playhouse is perfect for creating the in-your-face experience of your favorite artist. Their layered vocals and complex guitar riffs belted over the pit, and rang up into the balcony. The sound brought chills to my skin and nezzled into my soul. T&S always tour w/ amazing artists so when Steel Train kicked the doors open with their lively performance, I knew it was going to be good. Sure enough, Holly Miranda, whom I had never heard, got my eyebrow raising approval w/ their distorted sound that seemed to cry w/ emotion as she sang. All in all, it was well worth the 7 hr drive and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

This was my third Tegan and Sara show and it was by far my favorite. The band sounded tight and the set list was incredible. They played Soil, Soil which is one of my favorite songs and it was the first time I heard it live. Can't wait to see them again in Nashville!!!!

I saw them in Tampa and the following night in Boca Raton. They're one of my all time favorite bands and I had the time of my life. Tampa's show was amazing. Left me wanting more even though they played all the fan favorites I could think of. The 5 song encore was cool and it was awesome to see Tegan & Sara play a few songs without the rest of the band.

Saw Tegan & Sara in Tampa the night before also. Tampa's show might have been slightly better but both shows left me wanting more even though there wasn't really much else they could have played.

the show was great! they started off with a bang and didn't lose any steam through the 20+ songs that they played. I've seen tegan and sara play before, but never in a seated venue; i was a little worried it wouldnt have as much energy but i was dead wrong. it was amazing!

Tegan and Sara were great. They are a very professional band, and interact with the audience well. I enjoyed their guests too, but did not catch their name. My daughter was lucky enough to get a pic with Maya, their percussionist (from the guest group). I am going to go see them when they are in Philadelphia next year!!

Literally one of the greatest live shows I have ever seen. Tegan and Sara were on stage for a full two hours, played through all of "Sainthood" (four days after its release), as throwing in their biggest and most beautiful songs from their older albums. It was also the greatest audience reaction I've ever seen - the sister has an incredible report on stage, and were usually hilarious. Witty banter with fans in the front few rows, insanely funny anecdotes, little tidbits about writing their songs. While they're only playing in LA and NYC the week of "Sainthood"'s release, BE SURE to catch these wicked little ladies during their official tour in January/February. A must see event (as all of their fans know), and I couldn't recommend their live performances more. Literally perfect, and so emotionally moving.

Tegan and Sara put on an AMAZING live show. I really loved that they talked between songs and expressed their personalities throughout the show. They are both super funny. The Orpheum Theatre is beautiful. Overall, this was a PERFECT show. I sat in the very back, top row on the balcony and still had a great view.

I have been a fan since So Jealous. But this was my first time seeing them. They definitely lived up to the great things I have heard about their live shows. Their banter definitely engaged the crowd, without seeming formulaic. I wish they could have played longer. But the song-selection was great, as was the performance. I will definitely make a point to see them the next time they are in town, hopefully as a headliner.

This will have been my 4th time seeing Tegan and Sara, 2nd at the Showbox. It is always great that Tegan and Sara make sure to stay involved with the crowd, it makes it fun and also because they have such a strong fan base. I love these two, from the first time I saw them to just last night, it is still just as fun to watch them.

I have seen T&S a few times and they are great live. I love them. They are fun and engaging and sound awesome. BUT I wish they wouldn't talk for so long between songs. A couple minutes of banter is fine but they tend to feed off each other, as twins are wont to do, and go on & on. Then, most of the audience is SO rapt and eager to participate they laugh at everything they little thing say. Everybody calm down and enjoy the music!

I've been a Tegan and Sara fan for the last few albums. It's great to see this act go more "mainstream" and become more successful over the years, while still remaining true to themselves and keeping the original fanbase close. The storytelling stage banter and the great songwriting are still here, along with a better light show and slightly more coached stage presence. :)

This concert was the most fun I've had in awhile. It was my first time seeing Tegan and Sara live but it will not be my last. Their music was even more amazing live than in recording. But it was more than that. Their show was a whole experience. They had some of the nicest fans I've met. the music was all incredible. But they also have these amazing personalities that shined through in every performance as well as when they took the time to talk to the audience. The only complaint I would have has nothing to do with the performance itself. I wish more of the audience would have been more respectful of the opening act instead of talking through it. Torres was great and deserved better than she got.But if you ever get the chance to see Tegan and Sara take advantage of it. I know I will.

Tegan and Sara are always great performers, I've seen them 6 times, but the sound was really shotty. The bass was too low and for the first 3 songs their vocals were WAY too low.It could have just been an off night for the sound person but it was disappointing.Lights were great!!!

I became a T&S fan back when I heard the So Jealous album. I suppose I can understand making money and making new fans, along with producers and production, have more mouths to feed. They were great when they kept it simple. Guitar and vocal harmony. They had a gift. They only did one song from the So Jealous record during the encore. Sadly, they didn't even use a guitar. They're wonderful artists. I enjoy them. They should drop the polished facade and go back to their roots. I think their old and new fans would love it and buy it.

Tegan and Sara were amazing! I kinda felt that Columbus was just "random" stop for them (I mean they've been coming here for years) but they didn't seem to advertise it as much on social media, and I felt like they kept having to "convince" themselves/ kept mentioning that they like coming to Columbus. But overall, I had a blast. They played so many songs and the energy was awesome :)

Tegan and Sara did a good job with their performance but I was disappointed by a few things. The biggest problem I had was with the amount of bass/subwoofer used in the show. It was ridiculously loud and over powering. I started on the floor but had to move numerous times to find a place constant where the beat didn't hurt my chest and make it hard for me to breathe. So unnecessary because it was hard to hear the music over the bass. The only other thing was the older instrumental songs being more synthesized for the show. There was less emotion in the songs and they felt flat and anticlimactic. The songs they did use a guitar for were great, and werebtheir newer songs that were already synthesized.
