Great venue for an outstanding band. The band was great at getting the audience dancing and having a good time. They played a solid 2+ hours. Absolutely love this show.

My 5th time seeing Son Volt and this one was my favorite so far. They're just a well oiled machine. The atmosphere and set list was fantastic. The stage @ the backyard should be raised a few feet imo. All in all a night that I won't forget.

There was way to much time between the opening acts and Goodie Mob performance. They were entertaining just as if they haven't left each other.

Once again, Luciano rocked the house! Each time I see him perform he simply wows me. Truly the best reggae artist in the game today and still going strong!

Corey Harris

I saw Corey Harris open for BB King back in the late 90's and he was amazing. He played solo acoustic and dobro "front porch" style blues. I saw him again years later on the Scorsese documentary exploring the roots of blues in Africa and central America. He's incorporated that into his music to deliver a mash up of reggae, blues, jazz, and African folk. Unfortunately it doesn't end up being so much a hybrid sound as a disconnected series of songs that seem to all be from a different place. The show at the Ark was poorly attended - maybe 40-50 people max. Maybe this had an effect on the band, because they performed as if there were only 40-50 people there rather than pouring much emotion into it. CH seemed bored or tired or stoned (not assuming or implying he was - it was just the sleepy vibe) for at least the first third of the set. When he went from the raggae sound to traditional blues, the crowd was very visibly more into it and responsive. But I got the feeling it wasn't what the band wanted to play - it was just something thrown in every few songs so they didn't lose the audience completely. About 3/4 of the way through the band left and Corey did several solo acoustic songs - by far the best part of the show. His voice seemed stronger and more resonant and the music hit the crowd much more deeply. But he again seemed to get bored as the band came back out and they went back to more mish mash sounds including Corey donning fake Jamaican accents or African vocals. I understand the appreciation for this folk music, and even look forward to hearing how it's worked into the music, but just trying to copy them does not do justice to the authentic voice that Corey Harris has. I hope he finds a good middle ground going forward.

This show is NOT a kindergarten level show. It went way over my 5 yr olds head and she was bored about half way through. Another lady whom I didn't know, without my saying anything, said the same thing. We wouldn't see it again and I wouldnt' recommend it for a 5 yr old, maybe not even first grader.

Moonspell

1st of all I did not enjoy the bands that preceded Moonspell. How ever I am in a way happy that they weren't my style; due to the fact I would have used energy that could have been used to rock out w/ Moonspell. (Which I did) They were absolutely amazing, I saw them last year at the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, and they keep getting more and more powerful! The set list was incredible: They started off w/ a song that is near and dear to my heart: "At Tragic Heights" Then they played the title track to their latest album, "Night Eternal", always a winner. They're stage presence was incredible for the entirety of the show, but they especially showed their metallic nature of great performance in "Finisterra" and "The Southern Deathstyle". After that the show kept getting better as they played a song off of their debut album Wolfheart; "Wolfshade (A Werewolf Masquerade)". And then some crowd favorites, two songs that every one can sing along to, "Opium" and "Scorpion Flower", and might I add, they pulled it off flawlessly! Next up, "Moon In Mercury'', I love the way Mike starts this song with fast paced drumming and Fernando lets out a bone crushing yell! Epic! You're a beast Evil One, this song takes me back to a simpler time, "Vampiria", Supposedly their last song was to be ''Mephisto'', but the whole crowd went wild, calling their name, MOONSPELL, MOONSPELL, MOONSPELL. The came and played two encores, "Alma Mater" and "Full Moon Madness" where Fernando Gets a couple drum sticks and bashes on the symbols along w/ Mike! After the show, the whole band was humble enough to sign any memorabilia that the fans might have, they signed my ticket! I had a chance to talk to Fernando before the show and he was so amazing, he talked to my friend and me as if we were long time friends. All in all, one of the best shows I have ever gone to. I thank Mike, Aires, Pedro, Ricardo, and the Immortal Fernando. Come back soon!
