Joe Satriani

Joe Satriani

JOE SATRIANI IN CONCERT:Joe Satriani’s virtuoso guitar playing is more than just flawless technique and blistering speed -- he also forms an emotional connection with fans that is beyond words. His genuine love of riff-based rock ensures that audiences are in for a sonic thrill ride at his live shows, where his nimble fingers and finely tuned ear bring his ballads to life. While “Satch” (as friends and fans refer to him) turns melodies inside out and shreds up a storm, his cast of astounding supporting musicians keeps the grooves solidly rocking throughout six-string stunners like “Surfing with the Alien”, “Satch Boogie”, and “Flying in a Blue Dream”.  Ticket buyers are in for a transcendent instrumental experience that can't be beat, featuring a brilliant musician in impeccable form.

At our age, we see musicians who we saw years ago and most have slowed down a little. Not the case with Satch. High energy with flawless musicianship throughout the entire show. The Chicago Theater was a great venue for this.

Thanks Joe Satriani for great mix of music that covered your many years as a most skilled fret master. As a long time fan this show was welcomed so I may see such guitarist play through his long list of musical hits. 26 songs. One intermission. Perfect! I certainly felt that on this night I had gotten my money's worth! Awesome visual performance as the backdrop on stage.

It was a great show. Joe is a musician that plays music for all ages. My 13 year old son was amazed with Joe's talent and myself at 51, Joe is my favorite to hear and see. The concert included many of his older popular hits and his many of his popular newer songs. It was nice to hear a variety of music, such as a bluesy sound, classical sounds and of course his signature rock sound. The smaller Center Stage venue makes it feel like every seat is the best seat in the house. You can tell that he enjoys what he does and includes the audience in his show. It seems to comes so easy easy for him. He is an amazing talent and look forward to his next visit to Atlanta.

I have seen and met Joe more than a dozen times. This set was the best. I haven't always been impressed with the choice of songs but this gig just blew me away. Several songs from NOTE, Extremist - all great - especially "Why". Great sound, very nice venue - just right for the demand. Heard everything flawlessly. Joe is on form and playing better than ever.

Whoever did the sound for this event should have been fired on the spot. One of the worst mix jobs I've ever heard in the 100+ concerts I've attended in my life. Apparently this mental midget figured OVERLY LOUD + OVERLY MUDDY BASS = PURE AWESOMENESS, Dude! His mix job ruined the entire event, because I couldn't appreciate the subtleties of Satriani's playing. Gave an extra star simply because it was Joe Satriani up there on stage.

Really nice venue and it was sold out. I had general admission tix...I had great seats...at a big event coliseum my seats were easily $300. Joe Satriani had a great show...2hrs 15mins of his best of the best and guitar blazing songs from his new Black Swans Wormholes and Wizards. God is Crying, Dream World, Premotion, Phryyic Victoria, Light Years Away, and Littleworth Lane were the new ones....awesome. Sound was crystal clear...no distortion. Joe knows how to work the crowd...from Super Colossal he played Crowd Chat...it was awesome. Only 2 songs missing that he didn't play....Crushing Day and Surfing with the Alien....however, Summer Song concluded the encore. Great event! It ROCKED!

I have seen Joe in concert 8 times and this was the first time I heard him sing. He sang Big Bad Moon which was fantastic. I just wish he would play "Ride" and sing with that one also. Ride is my favorite song and he has never played it in concert..... while I was in attendance.

I received my autographed copy of Black Swans & Wormhole Wizards in the mail today, so I listened to it on the long drive to napa. I ran it through twice and felt at least somewhat familiar coming into the show. Joe added two new members to his band. Alan Whitman is the new bassist. He has a cool style that goes good with Joe s music. He was in a surfer band called The Mermen. Mike Keneally was a guitarist for Frank Zappa but is playing keyboards for Joe on this tour. That guy definitely has chops and added a lot to the music, especially on the new stuff. I think he needed to tone it down a little in a couple places, as his busy style started to compete with Joe. For the most part he anhanced the songs nicely, though. He played on the on the original G3 tour with Steve Vai s band. Hordes of Locusts was a cool opener it s not my favorite song but a song from the first album set the table for a night of surprises. They followed that with Ice 9 a great tune (one of my favorites from Surfing With The Alien). Next came the title track from Flying in a Blue Dream. I thought I was sensing a pattern and was really hoping to hear The Extremist. That didn t happen, but they broke into some new material instead, which was fine with me. Light Years Away was a great number and I definitely enjoyed it more after previewing it a couple times on the drive to Napa. Joe had plenty more surprises to come, as he came back with another song from the first album, Memories. I really dig that song (especially since Dreaming #11) and they did a great version tonight. Next they played War, which was a real surprise, but I m into almost everything from Crystal Planet. I noticed the theater was getting really smoky. It didn t smell like anything was burning, so I assumed it was a fog show. It was odd, though, as it wasn t concentrated at the stage but instead clouding up the entire theater. It was like being in a giant smoky bar. It seemed as though the machines were running awry because it was getting thick. I even took a picture with my iPhone because it seemed so odd. Sure enough, the smoke alarms started going off. They finished the song amid the sounds & flashes and Joe was starting to speak after War but several people jumped on the stage and told them to stop. We all had to evacuate the building until the fire marshall inspected the building. It was rather bizarre standing under the marquee in a mob of people as several firemen came through. Joe said believe it or not, this happens about once every couple years in the life of professional musicians. We were backstage exchanging similar stories from around the world . I was certainly surprised. This was my 500th concert and it was the first time that has happened while I was around. I guess it s more common in bars & clubs. Anyways, this was a stellar Satch show that had a 22 song set plus two song encore. The set list was anything but stale and included some of my favorites. He played seven songs from the new album and I loved all of them. In fact, God is Crying and Wormhole Wizards were highlights for me. Wormhole Wizards featured a cool keyboard solo by Mike Keneally. I was also stoked they brought back a couple songs from Satchafunkilus. Revelation and Andalusia would probably be the two I would ve pick if given the option. Revelation is just such a brilliant song. Joe strutted around during that number and we could tell he enjoyed playing it. He brought out an acoustic guitar for an extended intro of Andalusia. I especially love the way Jeff attacks the drums with a vengeance on that number. Crystal Planet, Mystical Potato Head Grove Thing, The Crush of Love and Big Bad Moon were all great to hear, especially since he doesn t play them every tour. I hadn t heard Potato Head since 2006. The biggest song of the night for me, though, was Why?. He had never played that before, even during that tour. It was the one song on that album I had always wanted to see, but thought it was long gone. He kicked-ass on it, too, so it was definitely huge for me. Oh yeah, this was the first live performance for eight songs. They didn t shorten the set due to the fire drill, so we didn t get out until after 11:30pm.

The recent concert event at Uptown Theatre was fantastic. By now others have reported that the fire alarms were set off by too much smoke in the building, which caused the audience to vacate the premises. But so what. I was not bothered at all by the experience. It's a ROCK CONCERT for gosh sakes!!! It's a great story to tell. We were all allowed back in and Joe was an absolute professional and surrounded himself with pure talent on stage. I will see his performance again when he comes back to the states and will likely drag another person or two along with me so they too can become lifelong fans. New CD is 2 thumbs up... keep making magic Joe!

The Uptown theatre has the best seats and is a wonderful, plush venue. Truly outstanding. However, I had more fun at the Warfield a couple years ago as Joe was able to set up the AV system, and the fans got rowdy in the mosh pit. Joe's band seemed to feed off the energy and played their butts off. THis concert at the uptown was risky. New venue, new material, etc. Its my 6th time seeing Joe and was a middle of the pac performance. The major difference was that he improvised more than normal, and put exciting new twists on some of his classics. I tried to get the club Joe thing, and flew my brother in for the concert, but there was no club available on the website, nor when I contacted the webmaster. Then, at the venue, I was told there was one, but it was full. Very sad.

Enjoyed every song! Brought my brother & sister-in-law from the Quad Cities, Illinois. They had never heard of Joe Satriani, but will certainly know all about him now, they thought his guitar playing was amazing. It was an added bonus that each one of us received a free CD. Thank you! Even with the smoke alarms going off and having to evacuate, when we all went back in the show picked right back up without missing a beat. (minus the fog machine, ha!) My husband and I have seen Joe S three times now!

The show was fantastic with Joe playing both old and new tunes. The Fog machine set off the fire alarm and Joe just kept rocking until management made everyone leave. When it was all over Joe came back and said every performer has experiecened before and began playing again. This was his first show prior to hitting the road and he and the band rocked.

The show started off with two phenomenal local acoustic artists called Carter and Bodlovich. Their style and timing was incredible. We bought their CD and now are fans. Joe is always amazing. He just keeps getting better every year. The venue was perfect. Only seating about 900 made for a comfortable, up-close performance. The fire alarm sounded due to the fog machines so we all had to vacate the building. But as soon as we got back in Joe and the guys got back in the groove and played for a couple hours.

Did the meet and greet package which included front row seats. My venue (The Filmore in Detroit formerly the State Theater) is an awesome place to see a show. Intimate and has great acoustics. We did a backstage tour first where we viewed joes guitars and the rest of the bands equipment. Then we got a little one on one time with Joe. He was very hospitable and made your time very personal He ended up autographing several items for me and took lots of pictures. Then the concert. My seat was directly in front of joes mic stand and pedal board. He played in front of me for 75% of the concert. I was blown away from beginning to end. All I can say is the concert was 3 days ago and I'm still buzzing over the experience. I got to take lots of photos and several videos. Being less then 8 ft away from Joe for the entire 2 1/2 hours he played was truly worth the price I paid, $300 per ticket. I would definitely do it again when he comes around.

If you ever get the chance to do a meet and greet with Joe I would highly suggest it. We got more than what we paid for. The tour of guitars turned into a full on stage tour by Axe the sound tech. We were supposed to get a personalized 8X10 and one other item signed (I brought Wizards and Wormholes) but Joe offered to sign our lanyards as well. Doesn't sound like much but he was very open and personable and asked me if I had any questions for him. He spent 5 minutes talking to my friend. Most meet and greets are in and out quick but Joe gave him 5 minutes and Joe did most of the talking. Show was two sets and always a blast.

I did the VIP Meet and Greet, as I did the last time Joe Satriani toured here. This time, it was much better, as his sound engineer, Ace, walked us around the stage and talked about the gear, and just made small talk, answering whatever questions we had. Last time, we just milled around on our own. The meet and greet was also better, as we got to spend a bit more time individually talking to Joe. It would have been nice if we'd gotten to meet the other members of his band (Marco Minnemann, Bryan Beller, and Mike Keneally), but maybe next time. The show was incredible. They played a great mix of classics, as well as his new stuff. They didn't have an opening act, and it didn't really matter. The show lasted some 2 and a half hours, with an encore. I will see him again, and will probably do the meet and greet, even though I have to save up for it for a long time, it's worth it!

I've been listening to Joe Satriani since his first album came out while I was in high school. Now, 30 years later I finally got a chance to see him play live. He's just as amazing live as on his recordings. The Hard Rock in Orlando was a great place to see him. It's a small venue with great sound. We were 8 rows back but every seat is close which is really cool. Seeing Satch's fingers fly around is as good as hearing him play! The best part was I got to take my 14 year old son. He wasn't too sure about going as he didn't really know all the music to well. However, after the 3rd song he looked at me and said "damn!!" He's still talking about the show now several days later. Even if you're not a life long fan, he's definitely worth seeing a living legend play live!

Hello friends! I have seen Joe multiple times and he only keeps getting better and better with time. Unlike many artists who earlier stuff becomes their signature sound for their career, Joe and his band have a much more rich and thick sound today than many of the slightly dated older tunes. Partly related to technology advancement, his development in music composition, and of course his band, the latest album "Shockwave Supernova" is better today than his sound ever before. An opinion of course, but rarely do I give such high praise on music in 2016 compared to the music I grew up on from the 60's, 70's and onward! And while Joe really jumped on the scene in the late 80's and approaching his 60th birthday this summer, he rocks like he's still in his 30's, but even better! His best stuff may be just yet to come........ but it's damn awesome now! The latest Shockwave tunes from the show combined a nice mix of heavy "Cataclysmic" and "Shockwave Supernova" with classic Joe songwriting "On Peregrine Wings," "Butterfly and Zeba" & "Goodbye Supernova". Of course favorites such as "Crystal Planet," "God is Cryin," "Surfing" and many more, made for an incredible evening. Any fan of Satriani should not miss this tour and I would see him every night if I could take a hiatus from work and become a roadie alongside Ace running the house mix! Great job and thanks for the stage & equipment tour! Surfing - Shockwave set list was superb and will not disappoint, and you shouldn't need a Ticketmaster review to know that. Thank you to the band, crew and the event staff for another great page in the chapter of my life. Don't miss this tour Shockwave neophytes - Buy your ticket now and put the laptop down! Thank you again Joe - See you guys the next time around!

I was a bit concerned that since we were in a small venue and it wasn't sold out we may not get as good a show as a bigger venue like Frank Erwin, but I was not disappointed! Joe Satriani, Mike Keneally, Brian Beller, and Marco Minneman gave a fantastic show full of the riffs, solos, and jamming that I was hoping for. They are truly legendary! Hard to believe that one man can make a guitar sing. The variety of melodies out of each selection would make other performers jealous. Great concert. I waited 25 years to see Joe live and this was a true dream coming true. The sound projection was surprisingly excellent. The security and ushering was superb. A bit disappointed that we had a 15 min intermission, but the refreshment stands were already shut down! So we were lining up at water fountains; silly. The fans were way cool and awesome. Joe was simply awesome, connected with the crowd naturally and made jokes and he made some very humbling comments about his 30 year career; a great guy. It was my first concert with my wife; unforgettable. Thank you Joe!

To the whole band, Thank you guys for putting on a great show and thrilling me as always, I'm already looking forward to the next one. The show was phenomenal and kept me at the edge of my seat throughout. The Band, Marco, Bryan & Mike all rocked the set and are the best. These guys play so well and just is a thrill to watch all of them on stage. It was a fuller set than I was expecting and they all seemed to be having a good time in this performance. My only regret was I missed Marco's drum solo as it came on first thing after intermission.

Bought VIP Package Meet & Greet with 2nd row seats center. Had the best time meeting Joe. Very nice guy and has been my Guitar God for 30 years!!! The set list was perfect and he played most of his Shockwave CD which I was glad since that is my 2nd favorite after Surfing with the Alien. Joe's guitar playing was magnificent, out of this world!!! The sound was excellent and the band was tight. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face : ) You must go see him perform, the set list was 30 years of his work and reminds you how they don't make music like this anymore. Long Live Joe Satriani and may he give us 30 more years of beautiful Music with his Guitar. Love you Joe! Xoxoxo

An awesome show! Steve Morse is a great act on his own. I liked him way back when he formed The Dixie Dregs; he's also had his own projects, spent time with KANSAS, and currently plays for Deep Purple (in fact, he won't be on most of the rest of Joe's tour, because Deep Purple starts a tour in Europe in a week or two). A great night just to see Steve wail. But then to see Joe Satriani right after? I've seen 'Satch' about 1/2 dozen times, but never up close. Front row last night! Though my apologies to my friend, Bruce Kabbas. He was interested in going. But when tickets went on sale, I was able to get two seats in the 20th row ... or a single seat in the front row. Sorry Bruce!

My wife and I went to see joe satriani. She has never heard or saw joe satriani. I was a little worried how she would react to his awesome guitar playing ways. Turned out he blew the doors off the beacon theater and we left after show amazed some one can play as good as joe. Thanks joe you made our weekend in New York. Thanks beacon theater. Rock on....

Satriani put on a great show, but I think a big part of the crowd's excitement was initiated by Steve Morse, who definitely got everyone riled up beforehand. He put on a great show as well, even though the opening act was only about 40 minutes long.

Satriani was amazing as always. The fans were the disappointment. This was only an 1800 seat venue. There was not a bad seat in the house and I believe only 800 seats were sold. I apologize for the rest of the fans that didn't show their support Joe. You rocked it out super hard. Joe played at finger blazing speeds as always for 2 hours non stop. I will see you anytime you are in Cleveland. You are the best guitarist in the world.

I have been a fan of Joe Satriani's since I first discovered" Surfing with the alien" back in 1987. The venue (Macomb Music Theater) where I saw him was intimate and felt like I got a personal show. Every song illustrated Joe's incredible guitar skills on classic tracks enjoyed over the last 25 years.

Simply put "AMAZING" from start to finish! Steve Morse's band took the stage precisely at 8:00pm to warm up the eyes and ears of the audience. He dutifully impressed without as much guitar pyrotechnics as Joe would demonstrate, but is clearly in the same class of players when it comes to style, technique, and pure ability. After a barnburning 45 minute set he disappeared to the back and the stagehands would clear the stage and set up Joe's equipment in about 10 min. Now it was Joes turn to light the place up, and that he did with his fast fretted fingers and amazing guitar stunts. He hit the stage right at 9 and played till 10:50 with nary a break in the action. His guitars have to be reinforced cause the torture he puts them through and the sounds he gets are otherworldly. Both Steve and Joe brought some of the best hired guns along with them to back them up, which definitely make them as awesome as they can be. Would go see them again if possible. Excellent lights, sound and crowd for this show.

The meet and greet and of course the show were an amazing experience. Joe seems like such a humble person. He's been one of my guitar heroes for over 20 years, and so meeting him was awesome. He put on an outstanding show, and the Saenger Theater venue was perfect...much better than a large hall would have been (3rd row seats didn't hurt either). I really enjoyed the up close and personal back-stage tour. All of the stage hands and tour guide were very friendly. I highly recommend the meet and greet package.

I had seen Joe Satriani once before, but this concert was extra special for me since I did the meet and greet with him a few hours before the show. What a thrill it was to shake his hand and \u2018pick his brain on a few techniques. We also had seats on the front row, so we had an excellent view! The opening act was the Steve Morse Band. I had attended one of Steve s concerts a couple of decades ago when Steve was with the Dixie Dregs. At that time his bass player, Dave LaRue, was a good player. On Friday night he had evolved into a phenomenal bass player. Without a doubt he is the finest rock bassist I have ever seen, and I have seen many. He can switch from playing with his thumb and fingers to slapping, then tapping and he does it flawlessly. He is also a master at using his foot pedals as he changes his techniques. Their drummer is outstanding. It is hard to believe the sound that came from just 3 musicians in the Steve Morse Band. Joe Satriani opened his set with the song "Jumpin In," from his album Unstoppable Momentum. His second song was Devil s slide. These two upbeat songs got the crowd s attention! Throughout the two hour set Joe played songs of several different genres. He went from beautifully melodic tunes such as Flying in a Blue Dream and Always With You, Always With Me, to hard driving numbers like Satch Boogie and Surfing With the Alien. Many rock guitarists spend much of their time shredding and playing speedy riffs. Mr. Satriani can do that with the best of them, but the majority of his music focuses on melody. His chord progressions on the songs he has written are unusual and capture your imagination. The band was excellent with the drummer keeping a solid beat and playing a nice, long drum solo. The bassist was also very good. A pleasant surprise was Joe s guitarist and keyboard player Mike Keneally. This musician was equally adept at playing keyboards or guitar. He often switched from one to the other during the same song. He often traded licks with Satriani, baffling the crowd as he did so. This concert was amazing, even if you were not sitting on the front row. Joe Satriani knows how to motivate the audience as he did with an encore song, Crowd Chant, where the audience would sing the same riffs he played on the guitar. From the opening set with the Steve Morse Band to the final Joe Satriani encore song, Summer Song, this performance was filled with energy. What a thrill it was to be there!

Let me start with The Orpheum L.A. is a GREAT Venue. I've been to several shows there and never had a bad seat or sound! Steve Morse and his Band were Outstanding!! His bass player and drummer are among the Best I've seen and heard. Joe Satriani is a consummate showman and among the top 10 guitarists around. He has a keyboard/guitarist playing with him that was comparable to Joe himself!! To be honest I liked the drummer and bass player from Steve Morse's band better than Satriani's guys. Not that THEY weren't top notch but the other two guys knocked my socks off! Still trying to find out WHO THEY ARE!!!

There have certainly been a lot of guitar wizards that have come and gone since Jimi Hendrix first graced our ears with his Voodoo Magic. He inspired a lot of people to pick up a guitar and take it to the next level. One of those who heeded the call was Joe Satriani. Once an aspiring athlete, he found his true calling after hearing Hendrix play. And if there was ever a man who was worthy of following Hendrix, it's Joe Satriani. His guitar wizardry is second to none and he puts on an amazing show based strictly on the music. No big special effects or pyro-techniques here. Just a lot of great tunes. He plays from a great catalog and has a fantastic backing band. If you're in it for the music, go see him play.

It's Joe Satriani, so you already know the guitar playing was outstanding. Sound quality was amazing, and the volume, while loud, didn't leave my ears ringing - just right. While Joe isn't the most showy of performers, he just seems immensely likeable on stage. You can just see him enjoying himself on stage, playing his music. He also stepped back and let each of his supporting band members have an extended solo - they were all great as well. The set list was varied and spanned his entire career.
