A John Waters Christmas, like John Waters himself, manages to be subversive and lovable at the same time. There are lots of laughs and absurdities to enjoy! The show provides a welcomed break from all the stress and rush of the Christmas season. For the duration of the show me and my family just sat back and had a good time. Those of us with premium tickets were invited on stage to meet John Waters after the show and he spent quite a lot of time with each fan. On the whole, the performance was an early Christmas gift!

Not a great show. Not even a good show. I am guessing he has a ton of passionate fans and followers but I am not one of them. I didn't think he was funny at all. Such a disappointing way to spend the evening. The best part of the show was when he answered questions from the audience. He appears to be a genuinely nice guy I just don't prefer his style of comedy.

John Waters holds nothing back in his twisted and magical views on just how badass the Holidays could be. No pauses, split second humor that you can barely keep up with.

Waters' take on Christmas is a pleasure--more filled with amusement than the cynicism that has become so boring these days. His performance was energenic and hiliarious in a charmingly pervy sort of way. It was a wonderful, fun night!

John Waters is a genuinely funny guy. He has parlayed a career of artistic endeavour into a one-man cabaret of wit, wisdom, and a wondrous fascination with adult toys, poppers, and fashion. I could sit and listen to that Baltimore twang all night long. He also generously offered himself up for Q&A. I didn't do the backstage meet and greet, but friends who did reported that he was attentive and delightful. I hope he lives another 64 years!

Thank you Carolina Theater for bringing quality entertainment to the area. We need more intelligent, irreverent, and gay programs like this. John Waters' observations on the absurdities of the holiday season are a welcome change to the usual warm fuzzy shlock we are usually offered.

it was great to finally see him in person. But he came out rushed, didn't acknowledge or thank the crowd, or come up with some story about where he was (Durham, NC). Seemed like he just wanted to hurry up and get it over with. Hard to follow the logic to his dialogue too.

Def not a show for the kiddies, but it was a show that made you look at the holidays in a whole new light. John was funny, moved about the stage rather then hide behind the lecturn (unlike David Sedaris recently) He did a little Q&A after he was done and was overall a great way to spend a chilly winter night. Wish he would do a tour for every holiday!!

The show started 90 minutes late. I had rushed through three Christmas parties to get there on time; disappointing. I'd also have preferred if John was a little more off the cuff. The monologue felt over rehearsed. I still love him but don t need to see him in that format.

Definitely learned some new words and it was very art-focused at times. Had a blast though and he definitely has a different set of friends and sometimes values re: recreation. However, underneath it all, he's a nice boy who loves his family and friends. Appreciated the Question and Answer, that's not something that everyone can pull off.

John Waters already eclipsed Christmas morning, dystopian Norman Rockwell visions and anything really cool I might have hoped to get. An evening of Mr. Waters turning sentiment inside-out was priceless. If you didn't make it, I'm not sharing any of the fun you missed, but will rub it in. You missed it. You missed Christmas as only a Waters admirer could appreciate it. Well okay, updated gay hipsterisms exposed for what they are (hipsterisms) and visions of a savage-yet-lovely Christmas, shared as though Doug Stanhope had somehow gone off the deep end and come out looking like a genteel fellow. There is really no way to express my delight at this intimate glimpse into the creative genius holding court. I tried. You missed.it. I'm sorry.. (Oh, and you missed the beautiful Birchmere parking lot cats, as well). You're pathetic. I, on the other hand, am blessed.

John Waters is a total original. Thank goodness he exists because i'm not sure how the world could survive without his CRAZED views of everything. He had myself and my friends in stitches all night. All by himself, with no media or cast support, his show was not as funny or dynamic as was Eric Idle's when we went to see him, but it always warms the heart to feel the utter sincerity of the old reprobate who stunned us so many years ago with Pink Flamingos and Female Trouble. He's a fine example of subversive theater, and I was proud to bring my 18-year-old boy to see him. This way my son has a cultural foundation he can build on!

Mr. Waters' presentation reminded me of the rock singers of the 60s. The microphone was almost sucked down their throats. As a result, I had great difficulty understanding most of what he said. I think the situation could have been improved (1) with a better sound system and (2) Mr. Waters' wearing a lavolier mike.

enjoyed the show very much..but i think those of us in the audience equaled your performance..from the way we acted to the way we dressed..it's no surprise we are ofton proudly the source of your materal because together we all share this wacky gift of baltimore.. a town with a unique ability to laugh at itself. .or is it to care a little less what others might think?..lets hope it's a little of both...it was with this great feeling i came home with after your performance.....i remember you did a book sighning several years ago and i requested that you sign it in my name as "a true baltimoron"..you paused and look at me and said.." are you from here"?..and i said "absolutely"..it was then i knew you were for real..jaggen

Love John Waters. He's an icon, and a true "filth elder". That said, this performance was pretty lack luster. He had a loose outline of themes that he barely seem to track, and shared just a few stories. I didn't feel like he put any time into bringing something compelling, if not new. I thought his RISD commencement address was awesome, and I really was hoping that this would have been at that level.

Saw the show in politically correct Boulder last night while NBC was broadcasting the live "Hairspray." Been a fan for many, many years but first time seeing him live. Possibly the funniest 75 minutes of my life, and I was in tears on more than one occasion. Rapid-fire, no-holds stand up with an interesting Q&A session afterward. Just go, already.

Oh John. You bundle of nervous, noxious, sweet and terrible energy! His wit moves as fast as his mouth, he's a genius really, no-holds-barred, raunch master. NOT for the faint of heart, easily offended, those who don't like often explicit, often homo humor. I've loved this man since I first saw Polyester, way too young. I'll remain a fan of his ribald hilarity forever.

As with many others who came for an evening of off-color fun, I'm a long-term fan of John Waters, having enjoyed all of his films - from Pink Flamingos onward - and more recently his interview for "Car Sick" on NPR. Perhaps expectations for this live performance were unreasonably high. The evening turned out to be a rat-a-tat delivery of monologue with seemingly little connection with the audience along the way. Maybe he was less energized due to the half-empty house. Attendees were clearly expecting a livelier evening. We did not stay for the end-of-show Q&A.

Having always loved ALL of John Water's works, to see him, solo, in person, was fantastic. His delivery was not as "filthy" as could have been expected (queue Pink Flamingo), but raunchy enough to remain true to John Waters form. I took my 16 year old daughter and she too loved every minute.

First I want to note that some people are concerned this is a show that is purely a smut show. It's not, it's John Waters sharing his perspective on culture and society around us. Full of counter culture and a smattering of shock but all in all, hilarious as only JW can be. Must see!

John Waters is quite spry; he had an upbeat, steady, yet refined energy to him. I loved his outfit-- it was very well put together, which was in contrast with his minimal stage decor. Everyone in the crowd laughed, but the laughs were quick and quiet because John Waters delivery comes at a rather fast pace. I gave the show 4 stars because I felt like he went a little too fast, considering the imagery depth he gives the audience + time it takes to sincerely laugh. We had two AMAZING seats in the front row and center aisle of the loge upper balcony at the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, FL. Thank you Ticketmaster for hooking me up with those primo seats at a very decent price!

The Christmas Show was quintessential Waters: He was gleefully sharp-tongued and spoke to the audience in a gossipy and affable manner - as if we were guests to his private party and got the 'inside track' on his life adventures. He spoke a lot about his newest book, "Carsick" and spent a good deal of time after the show doing a Q&A session.

I would recommend this show to anyone who is a John Waters fan. John Waters fills the stage with his opinions, humor and insight into modern American society. Beyond what you would expect from John. If you have listened to his excellent film commentaries or seen This Filthy World, you will still be entertained by this unique one man, non-stop show that exceeds 90 minutes of the most unexpected tales of yuletide lore with some classic Baltimore bits thrown in to keep it grounded in the familiar extreme. If you have limits, you will exceed them here. If you claim to have no limits, John will prove you wrong! This was my second year to see him in ATL, and he always delivers. His Christmas song collection plays before and there is even a Q&A at the end, so be prepared. It is a must for any one claiming to be a fan, and a primal need for ones who truly are admirers.
