First time at TN theater! Lovely and accommodating head to toe, from parking accessibility to ease of access to theater. Be careful with some meters-- they have two - hour limits. There is a parking garage with a pedway which certainly makes you feel safe amongst other attendees coming and going. Once inside there were ample ushers and nice concession area. Would have liked a little more space for the merchandise, to browse comfortably, so I, in fact, didn't find an opening in which to make a purchase. :( As for Loreena and the band, just wonderful. A few somber moments she spoke of but much of her music is based on those moments in her travels. But boy can they rock it! IK,R? Seats were ideal and on an end toward the center. There was an acrylic panel (maybe for acoustics or so someone doesn't jump?) but it wasn't terribly distracting.

I have been trying to see Loreena McKennitt perform for a few years now but just never managed to make it happen. Very impressed with her performance at the Jubilee. Outstanding acoustics and words can't do justice to hearing her live. She had a great sense of humor when relating some of her musical journey stories which I didn't expect but just added to the night.

I was introduced to Loreena's music 20 years ago. Her maudlin tunes have brought many a tear to my eyes over those years, and her concert was no exception. I play her music as well, on my violin and viola, so seeing her in concert was, truly, a momentous occasion for me. Her voice is nonpareil. Her fellow players overflowed with talent as well. That cellist--wow!

With all the electronic technology available today, one sometimes wonders if an artist sounds the same in person as they do on their recordings. I'm happy to report that Loreena McKennitt's clear, strong voice is as pure in person as it is on her CDs. What a thrill to hear her magnificent voice! I came away from her concert thinking that if I had been blessed with even half the voice she has, I would be ecstatic. Even my husband, a reluctant concert goer for any artist, said he has a new appreciation for Loreena after hearing her live and listening to her stories of the meticulous research she does prior to any recording. Because she rarely comes anywhere near our hometown, we traveled to Winnipeg to see her and it was well worth the trip. It was a wonderful concert that we will remember for quite a long time.

This concert was AMAZING!!! Loreena's voice is so clear and sounds just as amazing live as her recordings. I was amazed by her band as well....each member is exceptionally talented and the passion the evoke when they play their instrument is phenomenal. I will be attending many more of Loreena's concerts to come.

Outstanding and flawless, her voice was strong and she provided wonderful narrative commentary to the various inspirations that were the genesis to their creations. This show was more intimate then her last time in Ottawa when she toured for the Ancient Muse Album. A Lorenna fan would not have been disappointed in the set list mixing her upbeat instrumentals with her classic story songs as well as the big ones you would expect to hear. She even included two seasonal classics, a Dickens' Dublin and Snow. Two sets totaling three hours. Caroline Lavelle, Celloist, and Hugh Marsh, Violinist, played with as much intensity and passion clearly displaying their love of music. Brian Hughes, Ben Grossman and Dudley Phillips were equally to the task in their performance. A truly wonderful show. A perfect evening.

Superb musicianship. Beautiful, magical, presentation, Laurena and all the band members were relaxed and tight at the same time. Sweet to hear her stories between joyful music. I drove two hours across New York-Canada border and paid for a hotel. It was a small price to pay. Wish I could have stayed for the Sunday concert! I would love to know who makes her clothes!!!

I saw Loreena several years ago at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, TN - The music combined with the ambiance of the theatre was incredible - not only is her voice incredible but her musicians are the best - if you ever want to see a show that will leave you awestruck this is it - simply awesome - I will see her whenever I can.

Hope to see her again on the next tour. She made the venue of the Taft Theater into an intimate experience. Next year new songs and new stories. Loreena thanks for coming to Cincinnati.

I have waited to see Loreena McKennitt in concert for many years...so was fortunate to see that she was in concert in my general area. The sound system was great - and I enjoyed every single note. Loreena's other musicians were equally amazing. Very talented! I enjoyed her dialogue moments and her history lessons; however, I would have cut that down by about 15 minutes so as to hear more songs/music. I still give it a 5-star rating!

Loreena was amazing. I had a co-worker introduce me to her music the day after she was in Knoxville 9 years ago and I fell in love with her. I've been waiting to see her since and she was everything I expected. Only complaint was the irresponsible parents who brought their hyperactive child to the show. He disrupted everyone around him until the parents finally took him out. So I didn't hear the first three song, but I bet they were great as well . In 2009 after my company closed and I was unemployed for a year, her music kept me calm and positive. Thank you Loreena. Please come back again soon!!!

Lorena McKennitt put on a comforting concert largely composed of her older work (much of it drawn from her "The Visit" album). With her only backing, in general, being electric guitar (and a few other strings played by Brian Hughes) and cellphone, plus an occasional violinist, the sound was much cleaner than last time in Columbus when she appeared with h nine backers including a full drum kit. The result was a very intimate evening of my stay familiar music. One song, which she did not name, received its live performance premiere, to the delight of the crowd. A very good concert.

Loreena McKennit never disappoints her audience. I sat enthralled throughout this tour and listened to old favorites and new music. Her collage of song and spoken word that focuses on the plight of Irish immigrants was gut wrenching, yet hopeful. I thoroughly enjoyed her conversations with the audience between songs. Loreena is so engaging and down to earth , speaking to the heart through her music and commentary. Definitely looking forward to a new album in the near future!

A fun evening for the four of us.. The theater is older and still a grand old lady. Not a bad seat in the house. Was surprised that the house was not full. Music is amazing. The band works well together. Loreena converses with the audience, making us laugh with her travel tales.. As they say, you cant make that stuff up. Would recommend the artist and venue!

I have been waiting for Loreena to come to the Ohio area for years, ever since I first heard her music 8-9 years ago. Finally! And what a treat. Closing my eyes made me think I was listening to a CD. The music was just as full and rich as a mastered studio recording. How can a mere 3 musicians accomplish this? Her voice, her presentation and sharing of the Celtic history made for an unforgettable night. Thank you Loreena and please come back soon.

I pretty much knew what to expect from a general standpoint, but I was still amazed at the proficiency at which they pulled it all off. A wonderful stage setting, just the right amount of conversation mixed with music, and an intelligence in both that we rarely see in this kind of format. The music quality was exquisite! The harp, cello and guitar sounded like a symphony. Add Loreena's voice and they just transported you to the most beautiful places you can imagine. Truly a gift.

I was disappointed with the first half of the show. She had done a lot of slow songs. Very boring with repetition. They sounded very similar. She also did this spoken word (she reads from her diary for 5-10 minutes before going into a song) which did not work. Was not enough to keep interest. The second half of the show was the Loreena I remember seeing years ago. Very upbeat and more aggressive.

This concert was different than most because, and in a wonderful way, it was a bit of a concert plus a lecture on the history of Celtic people and Celtic music. I loved hearing Loreena tell about how she was planning to be a veterinarian and somehow ended up being a singer, songwriter, composer, harpist and pianist. My only regret was she did not play the Highway Man. She was amusing and I loved it when they did the encore with the Halloween props. The other artists with her were phenomenal particularly the celloist Who also did occasional harmonies, played two wooden flutes and an English squeezebox.

The concert was amazing, as Loreena always is: musically and lyrically beyond any other eclectic singer in this or any other era. She also did a presentation on Irish Immigration that was very timely, which included her journal entries and spoken poems by WB Yeats. This was a more intimate setting for her, in which she wove personal stories into a journey narrative, between songs. The audience gets poor marks for not turning off their cell phones. One idiot next to me kept looking at his mobile phone with a large screen throughout the entire concert, even during and after Loreena had spoken at length about what overuse and addiction to this kind of technology is doing to children, and our culture. I thought in general most of the audience thought this was a rock concert and nothing more.

I'm a lifetime fan of Loreena McKennitt, and this is the first opportunity I've been able to see her live. I would have seen her anyplace, but it was extra special that I was there for her Trio performance at the Symphony. The sound balance is unrivaled in Nashville. Her musical perfection was matched in full by her fellowTrio performers. The sort of fireside chat intimacy of her performance were the sprinkles on my musical bucket-list cupcake. I doubt I'll ever see another live musical performance that surpasses this in my lifetime, or one that would leave me as emotionally raw for days.

I count Loreena's 2009 concert in Asheville as one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. Her voice, her songs and her depth of soul have meant so much to me over the years. I was disappointed this past Saturday when she recited poetry several times along with rather lengthy accounts of Celt history. I found her personal travel stories interesting and I just wanted to hear her sing much more than she did. Her colloist was amazing! I hope they both come back to Asheville with an entire band and spend at least 90% of the concert singing this time!

The show was amazing because she's simply wonderful. I will have to say that the slimmed down version of the band leaves one with a certain emptiness. The guitarist effects to fill what the other missing instruments normally play was startling. Cello also always awesome. Overall a good show.

My seats were some of the best in the house....I was literally seated against the stage to the left. It was amazing. Loreena McKennitt's doesn't travel the states with the full orchestra you'll see in her Nights at Alhambra concert DVD. She rarely makes it here, so we grabbed the first opportunity for any tickets to see her. After purchasing the tickets within 3 minutes after they went on sale, I noticed that this was a mini "trio" tour. I wondered if it might be disappointing, limited in the sort of sweep and majesty that normally makes her style. It turns out that though there are only three musicians on stage most times, there's a full house of sound. Brian Hughes plays electric and acoustic guitars as well as a lyre. Caroline Lavelle is usually on the cello, but salts some pieces with recorder and even accordion. Mckennitt, of course, plays both harp and piano. Even the guy who sells the CDs out front stepped on for two songs, adding a violin. A very rich musical evening, highly recommended!

It was truly a wonderful evening. I had waited 18 years to see Ms. Mckennitt perform! It was worth the wait. I had never been to the Symphony Center before, and it was a lovely venue. Ms. McKennitt has an intimate stage presence, sharing stories of her travels with her audience. She was delightfully funny in addition to putting on a wonderful performance. If you've ever wanted to see her, do yourself a favor and get the tickets and go. I can't recall ever being so engrossed at a concert before. She did a few encores for us. This concert happened to fall on Halloween night, so she opened with All Soul's Night and Samhain Night. It was such a treat to hear some favorites! She also did a spoken word and music performance piece. The other part of her trio were also a delight. They did an extended version of The Bonny Swans, with an electric guitar solo. Ultimately, that evening was worth every penny. The day I heard she was coming to Nashville, I bought my tickets immediately. I drove 2 hours to see her. All in all, Ms. Mckennitt gave the best performance I've had the joy of attending.

I love Loreena! Still do, and have all her music. Her voice is amazing. This being said, I was expecting a music concert, not being preached to, and enduring journal readings. Loreena McKennitt was amazing! The history and funny stories added to a richly filled evening of beautiful music. Her vocals are unlike anyone else on the planet! The two who accompanied her were very talented as well. Each played multiple instruments and chimed in on the singing from time to time. She also played some new music too. When I heard she was coming to our home town, I saw that I could not make it as I was coming back from Europe. We traveled 80 miles to another city to see her. I was once in Stratford and saw Ms. McKennitt at her favorite coffee shop and I complimented her work. She was most gracious. She is indeed an angel among us. Thank you Ms. McKennitt! I have been a fan of Loreena's for over 20 years since I first heard her, by chance, one Saturday evening while listening to NPR's Hearts of Space program. I was instantly impressed with her voice and style. I have listened to her regularly but very rarely go to live performances. When I discovered she was coming to St. Louis I jumped at the chance. Up until then she had never played here and my only chance of seeing her live was to travel to another city. Loreena played many old favorites and new songs. All in all it was an impressive concert and her voice is as beautiful live as it is recorded. She has a grace and poise second to none, is very learned in history and has a great sense of humor. I enjoyed her stories as much as her singing. She is a Canadian treasure and we were privileged to have her visit St. Louis.

I first saw Loreena McKennitt October 14th 2007 and was blown away by her performance featuring a nine-piece orchestra in the intimate setting of the Lakewood Civic Auditorium. I was equally blown away by her performance Friday November 4th which was much smaller and more intimate featuring her three-piece ensemble. At the start of each song Loreena gave a brief overview of the song and explaining how Irish tradition or folklore inspired her and influenced the song. The setting, stage presence, lighting, and intimate setting of one thousand people provided a very tranquil, mesmerizing, yet moving performance. One that I could sit through a thousand times over. Loreena s music was timeless and her performance allowed the audience to transcend to a different time and place with imagery of strong and prideful Celtic tradition. While traditionally I am an avid listener or pop and rock, it is a welcome change to add such a diverse folk artist to my listening repertoire. Loreena sings with such passion and conviction representing Celtic tradition. I just loved every minute and felt in awe the entire night.

The seats at the venue were quite comfortable. Acoustics were better at the State Theater in Kalamazoo than at Clowes in Indy, but still a great show. Caroline and Brian had an awesome dueling strings contest at the end of The Bonny Swans that I just loved. The highlight of my evening though was getting to meet Caroline Lavelle and Brian Hughes at the stage, after the show. Such terrifically wonderful, down-to-earth people. I could have probably talked to Caroline for hours. She is just such an amazing human being, and so talented and beautiful on top of that. I can't wait to see Secret Sky on tour one day!

I have been a fan of Loreena McKennitt for years, and this was my first opportunity to see her live. I'd heard some of her live material, and I was impressed by the rich sound quality of the recordings, so I was pretty optimistic. And we were not disappointed. She was part of a trio, (only three musicians onstage), but they and their production crew produced one of the most beautiful concerts I've ever attended. Ms. McKennitt was absolutely "spot on" with her vocals, and her occasional monologues were fun and informative, too. And the trio's musicianship was top-notch, keeping her songs true to form, yet still interesting in their arrangements. The Venue (Lakewood Civic Auditorium) was the perfect size, and the crowd was quite an interesting mix of diverse folks, all of which were polite, yet enthusiastic.

I first discovered Loreena in 1997/98 when The Mummers Dance was playing on the radia as a radio edit. I was fascinated with her lyrics and sound. This put me on a journey to find her music, and find her music, I did! Through the years my collection grew, so when I saw she was coming to Lakewood, Ohio it was a no brainer, I was going. I brought 3 friends with me that were not at all familiar with her music, and by the end of the night, Loreena has 3 new fans. The set/stage was very simplistic with instruments and several candelabras on stage. Loreena immediately jumped into 2-3 songs to start out with then began to talk to the audience. Her stories were amazing and informative, and I truly believe she could have talked all night and we the audience would have been ok with it. Her vocals are so strong and sweet she is truly an amazing singer/musician. My friends absolutely loved her and I am so blessed to finally hear and see her in person. Thank You!

I have been listening to Loreena McKennit for years, but this is the first time I have had the opportunity to see her live and the show was great! She sounded as good, or better, than her recordings... GREAT!! The two musicians that performed with her were fantastic. I would highly recommend the show.

Loreena Mckennit has such a passion for history, culture, and music, that it fills the auditorium. Her performance is flawless and soul stirring. Her talent is refreshing and mesmerizing. She's a true artist, poet, and historian. I couldn't see her enough in one lifetime. If one has the chance to go, go! Do not miss out on this incredible opportunity!

Very nice experience - she sounds the same in person as her recordings. My only complaint is that she is singing songs that tell a story, but too many times you cannot understand the words. Stronger consonants would be very helpful.

Loreena vocals were unique and so clear. Harp, piano, cello and Celtic guitar came together to make some of the best Celtic music ever played.

No surprises here, Loreena was amazing, her voice powerful and crystal clear! The instrumentals by her and her companions were equally powerful and left nothing to be desired. I'd suggest any fan of hers or of Celtic/new age music to make certain to see her live at least once.

Too large of a venue for Loreena's style of music. Some of the music, particularly the guitar, sounded muddy and Loreena's voice was sometimes hard to discern over the music. (There might have been a problem with the sound system - which I assume belonged to the venue.) I have been listening to her on CDs for almost 25 years now and had expected her to sound better on stage. The most redeeming feature was when she was speaking to the audience, her stories and her jokes, and that made it feel more personal and intimate. The Easter Rebellion set did not work well for me, seemed out of place with the rest of the performance, and wasn't done as smoothly as it could have been. The USCC needs to help people find their seats more effectively and certainly not during the performance. If you cannot get there on time please wait until the intermission to be seated.

Great musicians! Second time I saw show at this venue but It will be my last time. Performance was great up until the time Loreena lectured the audience with leftist propaganda. Ruined the show. Keep your opinions to your self and stick to the Music.

We have all of Loreena's CDs; her music is a staple in our home. We saw her nine years ago in Asheville and counted that concert as one of our best nights ever. And we've been waiting for many years for her to return to our area. I never imagined I would walk out of one my favorite musician's concerts at intermission. And if I could have politely left earlier, I would have. In this concert, she is traveling with only two other musicians and so the music isn't as exhilarating and complex as much of what you hear on her CDS and no where near like the previous concert. My husband was very disappointed about this. I was fine with it. I am satisfied hearing her voice. Her singing voice. However she spent much of the concert storytelling. And, surprisingly, she is not a very talented storyteller. And, surprisingly, she doesn't have very interesting stories to tell. Nor, after decades of traveling Europe and Asia in search of the Celts, does she have anything very enlightened to say about them. It's all very generic and very general... like she skimmed a couple of a paragraphs online to share with her audience, thinking she would impress them with her "knowledge." Then it was on to Irish immigration to Canada and The Great Potato Famine. Again superficial information from elementary school and excerpts of an immigration officer's letter chosen for shock value. Her journal entries that she shared were trite and full of cliched phrases. Meaningless. I left feeling that she was a complete fake. That she ransacks the Celtic and Irish cultures for material, the old ballads and the beautiful poetry. But that her understanding of history and literature is shallow at best.

I have wanted to see Loreena for years. I finally got the chance without having to go to Canada or Europe. We drove 2 and a half hours, spent the day in beautiful downtown Asheville and finally get to see her perform live. This concert was an intimate evening with Loreena, Brian Hughes and Caroline Lavelle. While Loreena is superb on the harp and piano, Caroline Lavelle is magical on the cello and Brian Hughes is so smooth and versatile on the oud, guitars and bouzouki, the best performance is of course Loreena's voice. Even better in person. She gives us some history of the Celts and many funny stories. While I enjoy the history and quips, I admit, at times I wanted more performance. But I should not have feared, she still played all the songs I wanted to hear. Thank you for a magical evening Loreena.

The good news is Ms. McKennit was on stage for almost 2 hours. The bad news is she spent almost an hour of that time talking. It was interesting at first, but got pretty annoying pretty quickly. Her musical performance, when she deigned to give it, was outstanding as always. Her accompaniests were equally talented. We left the venue wanting much more music. On the bright side? We know a whole lot more about the history of the Celts. Which I could have gotten for free at our local library, rather than paying $175 for two tickets.

I've seen about 4 dozen concerts and this was 2nd best behind Elton John and ahead of Fleetwood Mac and all of the others. Her voice is amazing. She shared her knowledge of Celtic history and Irish history as it was related to her music. I would go to another of her concerts in a heart beat.

Loreena McKennitt : A Trio Performance was very disappointing. After the first song she sat down and talked for about 20 minutes about the Kelts. She went from one thing to another, almost rattling on. Finally she sang a couple of songs. Then, before the intermission she sang, talked and read some poems and went on and on about the tragic episode of Irish immigration history. It was like she was lecturing and it became very depressing. It was not at all what we expected and we actually ended up leaving at intermission. I had traveled and stayed overnight in Asheville and bought expensive tickets and am sorry I did.

This was the most intimate concert I've ever attended. It was refreshing to have Loreena relax and share stories with the audience...I saw her for the first time as a "real" person. I missed her backup musicians which lend a rousing air to her performance, but she more than made up for that with the connection she made with her audience.
