Jimmy Eat World

Jimmy Eat World

In 2013, Jimmy Eat World celebrated  20 years of independently released records with Damage, their critically-acclaimed eighth studio album. At their 2013 live concerts, the band delivered a blast of non-stop energy and enthusiasm, delighting ticket buyers with heavy guitar riffs, boisterously precise drum solos, and three-part vocal harmonies anchored by the familiar croon of frontman Jim Adkins. 2013's Damage saw the band transition from teen-angst rock towards a more sophisticated sound, with lyrical content taking on a markedly more mature tone on singles like the album's title track and "I Will Steal You Back."Jimmy Eat World started in 1993 as a punk trio formed by childhood friends Jim Adkins and Zach Lind.

My wife and I were brought Back in time to High School in the late 90 s. We first caught these guys live about 15 years ago, We actually saw them at the same venue a lifetime ago.,years before we met. Fast forward to now..... marriage,..kids...life. It was great to sing along to clarity hits together and share the moment. Even if we WERE the old kids in the back of the room! We ve spent a lot of time catching reunion shows put on by other bands of the same time and scene (which have been great) However...these guys never left. How long would it take me to walk across the united states all alone? I m not sure , but since we felt 17 again,,,maybe a little less time than expected

Jimmy Eat World was awesome! we where late to the show, so we didn't get to see much of the opening bands set. What we did see of it was great... When Jimmy Eat World took stage the place went electric. they are one of the few bands in my opinion that sound better / tighter / more convincing live than on CD... Good Show!

A great show at a fantastic venue. I was surprised at how much I liked Harrah's concert space. The band played a varied set with songs from everything but static. I loved hearing Authority song, which I dont remember hearing them play live before and No Sensitivity was great to hear as well. Loved ringing in the new year with the guys. Great show!

The New Year's eve Jimmy Eat World show at Harrah's was the best way to ROCK in the New Year! They played ALL of their best songs. The encore alone consisted of "Bleen American", "Sweetness" and "The Middle". The show was awesome!

I've loved Jimmy Eat World since 2001. My brother sent me two songs from their Bleed American album and I knew I had to see them in concert. I managed to score tickets to a concert while they were touring with Blink 182 and Green Day in California shortly after. Because of ticketing issue with the venue, I missed almost their entire set, including my favorite song at the time, Praise Chorus. Several years later, and back in Ohio, I bought my brother, sister, sister-in-law, and myself tickets as a Christmas present. Three days before the concert I managed to get so sick that I ended up in the hospital. I had to give my ticket up and miss them once again. This time I was prepared. I got to the venue an hour early and I'd already put myself on preventative antibiotics that weekend because there was no way I was missing them again. Was it all worth it!? Hell YES! The opening band Citizen Twilight was a great way to open the show. They had kind of a Muse/U2/Silversun Pickups kind of feel and had a great energy. I grabbed both a t-shirt and their album so I'm looking forward to hearing what they sound like in the studio. As for Jimmy Eat World, they played a great mix of old and new stuff. It was like the perfect concert experience. With the smallish venue of Center Stage but the large audience the vibe was just amazing, coming off in waves. With both the rocking explosions that are "Pain" and "Sweetness" mixed in with the catharsis of "Hear You Me" and "For Me This is Heaven," the concert just filled me with an untampable joy. Thanks for a great show guys!

This was my fourth time seeing JEW and as usual they were fantastic! I can't believe I counted down the new year with Jimmy Eat World in Atlantic City!!! It will be a moment I'll remember forever. It was great that there were no opening bands.. you didn't have to wait for them to come on. Wasn't too pleased with the venue. The sound wasn't very good, it was hard to hear Jim most of the time. Plus I was only able to get seats in the penthouse far away from the crowd so that sucked. It was cool because Tom Linton was walking around before the show and of course no one noticed. I would've asked for a picture but it seemed like he was in a hurry. It had been my goal to meet Jim Adkins this time b/c I absolutely love him.... oh well, maybe next time they tour !!!!!

This was the second time I've gotten to see Jimmy Eat World at the House of Blues in Cleveland. I'm sure it's tough for a band that has been making music for over 20 years to narrow down a set list. So Jimmy Eat World's solution is to...not narrow it down at all. They played 27 songs!!! It was a set chosen with Jimmy Eat World's long-term, hardcore fans in mind. They played for two hours with no breaks (aside from the time before the encore) and hardly any talking. These are disciplined dudes, strictly committed to their craft. They have an incredible repertoire of songs to choose from and played many of my favorites ("Dizzy," "23," "Polaris," "Work," "Hear You Me," "Big Casino," and "Futures"). Jim Adkins is quietly the best guitar player I have ever seen. I would recommend anyone see this band at least once. They are the real deal!

Jimmy Eat World is in my top 5 all time favorite bands, so I loved the concert. I noticed that the sound was extremely dry and heavily noise-gated. If you're a person who needs the guitars and drums to feel "alive," stay home. It was apparent enough that my wife, who is not a sound geek, noticed it without me saying anything.

I originally saw Jimmy Eat World when they opened for Incubus last summer, and they were substantially better than i expected them to be, which is why I went to go see them again. Bogart's was a cool venue. We did have to wait outside until they opened and the line was around the block. Once we were inside the line to get beer and the bathrooms moved fast. Beer was pricy, but I've seen worse. Venue was cool and bands sounded good. Building was very open, but still small enough to feel intimate. The Struts were a great opening act, very crowd oriented and energetic. I loved getting to see two talented bands that are unique to each other. Jimmy Eat World kicked it off with Praise Chorus and they sounded just as good live as their albums or better! They played a great set list and of course came back to play Sweetness and The Middle for the encore. After the concert was over, I was already looking forward to going and seeing them again.

LOVED The Struts! They were amazing live and in a smaller venue. This band is the reason we love to go to concerts in smaller venues - we sang along & danced the whole time. Sounded just like they do on the radio. The lead singer has incredible stage presence & what a voice! We will definitely see them again when they are in Cincy/NKY area. Jimmy Eat World was also great in that smaller venue. They looked like they were having a good time! I took my two 16 year old daughters and they loved it.

I have been a fan of Jimmy since the early 2000's and have had the opportunity to see them play 3 times. The band delivered with a new maturity that tends to develop after years of experience in the music industry. They went nonstop for about an hour and twenty minutes and then came on and finished the set with I guess what you could call a twenty minute encore. Jim Adkins was on key. It was hot and humid but he still gave it all he got, didn't bother him that he was completely dripping in sweat. True performer. Played a mix of all their greatest hits with a few of their new songs which I didn't know but were great as well, same sound with just a hint more maturity. Didn't need any of those special effects or video screens to make it exciting either. Strictly about the music like it should be. I bought the tickets presale so it was the cheapest concert I've ever been to but I would easily pay the full price to go see them again if not more. Highly recommend going to see them even if you're not the biggest fan. Just plain old school fun.

This show was a perfect blend of old & new Jimmy Eat World. Although their latest album (Damage) was released earlier this summer, they didn't dedicate the entire show to playing through it's track listing. Instead, they showcased new songs blended with some of their work they've recorded over the past 20 years. In addition to electrifying the crowd during their performance of "The Middle" during their encore (predictable placement, but ALWAYS welcome), they proudly covered Taylor Swift's "Never Getting Back Together." Although Taylor's version is the type of bubblegum pop you hear played every hour on the hour on the Top 20 radio stations, this performance truly demonstrated that there is so much more to that song than the superficial catchy tune most people hear. It's an angsty break-up song and honestly, angsty love songs is what Jimmy Eat World does best. Sure, I'm biased (J.E.W. is one of my all-time favorite bands) but there is just something about watching Jim Adkins perform. He's extremely soulful but rocks so hard at the same time. If you are considering seeing them live, please know that you won't regret the money and time spent.

What an unforgettable event! Having never seen Jimmy Eat World before, I wasn't expecting any particular details to their performance, but I came out happily surprised to hear all my favorites, even outside of the full album performance of Bleed American. I really enjoyed when they brought out the female keyboardist and back-up singer. For typical recordings where additional artists are brought on board, I don't often expect a live showing of that song to feature the same artists, but thankfully the entire Bleed American recorded experience was replicated and amplified both in my ears and in my memories. The stage lighting effects hit home particularly well, kudos to the those folks, and even from the Mezzanine I was able to acquire some excellent photos and recordings of the night. All in all, a great show! The only complaint I can throw out there were a lack of 'cool' tshirts at their merch table. Nothing particularly interesting to catch my interest or open my wallet. I hope Jimmy Eat World comes back soon!

While I could've done without the opening act, who really just acted and sounded like a garage band that somehow got picked up to do a national tour, JEW was incredible. I've seen them many times before, and I've always thought they were a great studio band who's live show always left something to be desired, especially vocally. But this time changed that entire perception. Jim Adkins was on point, providing just the right amount of adherence to the vocal performance on the recordings, and improv and emotion a good concert requires. Tom Linton also added great harmonies, which is so key in Jimmy songs, and the addition of Courtney Andrews for the essential female harmonies that the band is so fond of using on their records was an awesome touch. My only complaint would be to see more of her, especially on the tracks from Futures. Also, the light show was a great touch, and really did a good job of setting the mood for each song. All in all, it was one of the best concerts I've seen in a long time, and the best performace from Jimmy Eat World, worth every minute of the 4 hour round trip. I'll be sure to be in attendance at the next show in my area.

The guys in Jimmy Eat World haven't lost that special spark, even 10 years after Clarity. I was one of the lucky few that pre ordered the new CD at Rhino Records and was able to get in to the Special Performance / Meet & Greet and Signing before the real show later that night. It was great. First of all the venue is fantastic. They really spent a lot of time and money to rennovate the Fox Theatre. I hope to see more bands play there. For the preshow J.E.W. played four songs: My Best Theory, Cofee and Cigarettes, Evidence and Sweetness. Then after that they ushered us all through and the band signed anything and everything people had to sign for them which was great. Then the waiting began for the main show. We Were Promised Jetpacks opened the show up tonight . They are a small band from Scotland and they really got the show started off right. The lead singer has a very strong voice and the music was great. After their set Jimmy Eat World hit the stage and they hit the stage strong. It was a great setlist. They kicked things off with My Best Theory and with lots of energy played through old favorites and some new music and ended the opening set with Goodbye Sky Harbor which is always great. After a brief intermission they came back and played through 23, Pain, The MIddle and Sweetness to end the show and they played these hits with great energy and the crowd responded with fever pitch cheers. It was another amazing show. Jimmy Eat World never fail to put on a great show!!

I have no idea why I've never seen Jimmy Eat World live before, but I am so glad that I finally did. Such a good show. The opener, We Were Promised Jetpacks, was decnet, but Jimmy Eat World was amazing. While I think Clarity is a classic album, Futures is the most meaningful to me and I was very excited that they played several songs from it. My only complaint was that they didn't play some of the tracks I was hoping for from their new album (Invented & Mixtape). Also, I still know all the words to The Middle despite not having heard it since high school.

I had never heard of the opening act but they were a lot of fun to watch [We Were Promised Jetpacks!] And of course when Jimmy Eat World took the stage, I could hardly remember the words to my favorite songs I was so captivated by the performance! You could feel the drums and the bass as well as his voice booming through the speakers, straight to your soul! I can't imagine any other concert topping this...I wouldn't miss another chance at seeing them for the world! My friend, Michelle, & I got to meet Tom & Jim out back afterward...it was not like normal when we have to give awkward hugs, take a quick picture and move on...we actually got to converse with them, share stories, and it was truly the best experience ever! From the pain in my feet, holding my bladder for 4 hours, and being reallyyyy tired from no sleep the night before...I'd replay it again over and over and over and over again. 2nd best experience of my life <3...first being the birth of my daughter!

Jimmy Eat World puts on an amazing show. They're a solid band, with so many great songs, there was never a dull moment. They sound fantastic live and have a lot of energy. I hope they come back through town soon.

An amazing show. The venue was great and I loved the different tiers of standing and sitting. 'We Were Promised Jetpacks' was a decent opening band, however not exactly the style I like. JEW played an amazing show, and you could tell with the release of their new CD they were full of energy and just as excited as everyone else. They played a great mix of new music and classic JEW hits. Their guest keyboardist added something a bit different which I greatly enjoyed.

My husbands best friends and I presented my husband with tickets at dinner, minutes before the concert started. His face lit up, and off we ran to the show. The line was moving fast, the staff was cool to give me the DD bracelet so I could get free soda. The bands were exactly what we hope for when attending a show at an intimate setting like the Norva. Jeezy interacted with the crowd, and took requests. Jimmy Eat World took the stage and never slowed for a second. The pace they played had to be exhausting. What an amazing band.

Jimmy Eat World was dynamite. Played the Futures album and selects from others over a 2+ hr show. Really enjoyed it, Futures isn't my favorite album or they'd get the 5th star and there was no meet and greet/afterparty. They left after the 2nd encore, would've traded The Middle for anything else though.

Fantastic to see the Futures album played front to back, they also included playing the Stay on my side tonight EP.. Awesome bonus! They also played another set of favorites from all of the albums except Damage and Invented. Every song sounded awesome and the crowd sang back every word. Fantastic show. This was my 3rd Jimmy Eat World show and will not be the last.

They were amazing live! Most bands shy away from their older music, so seeing them play music over 10 years old brought back memories!

The energy was through the roof from the opening chords of "Futures" to the rollicking finale of "The Middle"!! Clearly the crowd was in love with this amazing little band from Mesa, Arizona for the entire 23 song set - and it's easy to understand why! Jim Adkins is one of the best front men in all of rock 'n roll and rhythm guitarist Tom Linton is the perfect foil to Adkins' lead licks! The rhythm section of drummer Zach Lind and bassist Rick Burch provide an always on cue and interesting backbone to the super tight riffs and soaring harmonies! I was at the opening show in Ventura, California and this show blew the doors off of that early October gig in every possible way. This Stroudsburg event marked over 30 Jimmy shows for yours truly in the last 15 years or so and they never cease to amaze me - I highly recommend you check out Jimmy Eat World live sometime very soon...a band that, for my money, easily earns the moniker "The Best Band in all the Land"!!!

Bottom line. Blistering set through Futures with two encores of hits including rarities. Tight set with vocal driven melodies.

I've been into Jimmy Eat World since 2004 when I was 11. One of my favorite albums by them is obviously Futures because of the time frame, it's one of those albums you can always listen to without skipping a song. On Monday when I saw them with my cousin, we were both blown away, between playing Futures in its entirety and playing songs I never expected them to play that night, specifically the first three tracks off the Stay On My Side Tonight EP. The only reason I hadn't gone to one of their shows is they don't come to Ohio too often, and I'm very glad they were close enough to me that I could come out to watch them shred their brains out!

Absolutely great show. This was a concert for Futures fans, and they completely delivered. Not only Did they play the entire album in it's entirety, but they played songs from their Stay On My Side Tonight EP which was absolutely mind blowing. Cheers to these guys for this tour, it was really a special night.

I had really high hopes for this event going into it as I have been a big fan of Jimmy Eat World for years but was left with a feeling of lacking. While they still sound amazing, there was no energy to the show and little interaction with the crowd. They mood was very somber.

Jimmy Eat World put on a FLAWLESS show so nostalgic, I felt like I was my 13 year old self listening to Futures for the very first time, each song it's own little time machine. As if that wasn't magical enough, they come back at the end blazing through a 7-ish song encore that exploded heads.

JEW never disappoints. Best band to see live. LOVE them!!! The mellifluous Jim Adkins was as mesmerizing as ever :) And, Tom, Rick, and Zach were also in great shape and at the top of their game.

An absolutely unforgettable and amazing show. I'll admit that I wasn't terribly excited to see them play the entire Futures album, more of a Bleed American kind of guy. Wow was I dumb. Just an awesome show. Will absolutely see them again any time they get close.

I've seen thousands of shows, including Robert plant two weeks ago at an opera house in NYC, but this was one of my favorites this year. Jimmy eat world's musicianship was excellent, the crowd was locked in and singing along, lead singer interacted well with the crowd, overall a fantastic performance. Well done on your 20th anniversary!

Minibosses was a surprisingly good opener. Kind of a weird choice, but still enjoyable for anyone who played a lot of 8-bit video games. For those that didn't, it was confusing. My wife was happy that I was having fun, but kind of missed out on the video game craze 25 years ago so wasn't that into their performance. Jimmy Eat World's "Futures" set was phenomenal. It was cool to hear all of those songs, including some deep cuts, live. I was pretty irritated that during some of the quieter songs the sound guy just kept cranking up the volume, presumably to compensate for the mellower music. It was beyond loud for Night Drive and 23. It was still a stellar performance, just painful. They basically played a whole other set after Futures, which was cool, but I am not familiar enough with their catalog to know what they played. The first part of that set lost a lot of momentum. They closed with "The Authority Song" and "The Middle" which left the night on a high note. One note: They REALLY need an ADA platform at the Uptown Theater. There were a couple of girls in wheelchairs that were in a decent spot to see at the show start and everyone just crowded in front of them. I felt really bad for them, but didn't feel like I had the power to do anything about it.

Good show. Good band. Said they were celebrating 20 years together and you could tell. Did some acoustic versions of some of their songs that were cool to listen to. Again, good show from them, their opening act was boring and not great though. HOB is VERY slow to change bands, not sure if they are waiting for set times but standing through these changes can be brutal.

Everything you would expect from a Jimmy Eat World show. The guys brought high energy and the sound was great. The setlist included a good mix of songs from all the Jimmy Eat World albums. Everyone in the audience was very into the show as well. Having seen many concerts I can say that they are one of the better live shows around. I would definitely recommend seeing them if you get a chance.

What an awesome show! It was a very intimate setting, so it was like you could reach out and touch the band, but the sound was still super loud and clear. Great set and full of energy. I would definitely go see Jimmy Eat World again and I would also be interested in more shows at the House of Blues in Chicago.

The atmosphere in the culture room was incredible. It was a right fit with standing room only, but it was a totally awesome experience. Jimmy eat world rocked their entire set and played a well balanced dose of older stuff and newer material. Jim's gratefulness to the crowd and the whole babd's enthusiasm was a breath of fresh air and really exciting to see. They're a band that has been there before and it shows, but they still appreciate music and love to play

First time seeing Jimmy Eat World live ever! IT was a great night, got to be front row, almost got a pick until annoying people decide to claim it as their own. overall, it was great! I like going to concert sin Rumsey Playfield I hope they do more of them there, however, to cancel them in the event of rain! Especially due to the equipment of the performers

I have been a fan of Jimmy Eat World since 2001 and never had the opportunity to see them perform live until this tour. I bought floor tickets during the pre-sale and was ecstatic to find the HoB venue in New Orleans is more intimate than what we have in Dallas. We stood 2-3 rows back from the stage and honestly, this concert is the kind of experience I have been hoping to have for the past 20+ of attending shows. Never have I been so close, the crowd so into it, and the band so alive. Kudos to the Jim and the boys for bringing it! Also, Matt Pond is an exceptional opening act. Can't wait to see both in concert again and hopefully that will be very, very soon.
