The Dillinger Escape Plan

The Dillinger Escape Plan

Known for their dazzling musicianship, fierce energy and spectacular live performances, the Dillinger Escape Plan formed in North New Jersey in 1997. A fusion of hardcore, metal and jazz, the group's music first won the attention of fans and critics with a three-song EP, Under the Running Board. The band's full-length debut, Calculating Infinity, followed in 1999--a musically intense, genre-defying album that earned the group a devoted following. Catching the attention of singer Mike Patton, the Dillinger Escape Plan soon opened for Patton's band Mr.

It was bittersweet. The last time I will ever see Dillinger live. I'd never been to this venue. It took two hours to get there and parking was impossible. The venue is amazing though. Beautiful interior, bathrooms are in great condition considering. I had to get seats because of ongoing physical therapy to some back injuries but the crowd was energetic. The sound in the back was OK, it was not the clearest if sound systems but I could see everything and I was comfortable. The band was exactly as I'd expect and only wish the set was longer.

Incredible show. Dillinger played an intense show with an incredible set-list. This band does nothing but impress me musically, and its live show was all but that much more impressive. If you have the chance to see them live, I highly recommend it, they don't disappoint.

DEP was fairly dissapointing but Animals as learders was amazing and Darkest Hour was really good as well. I Wrestled a Bear Once was also there but they were disapointing as well. So all in all out of a four band show two were great and two were ok. But for $15 it was well worth the ticket.

The opening acts were surprisingly enjoyable and demonstrated the high potential sound quality of the venue. However, DEP didn't take advantage of this sound quality. Everything just sounded like a blur of noise and screams. I was expecting to more fully be able to appreciate the technical nature of DEP by seeing them live, but guitars were indistinguishable during their most complex parts. Solos were completely drowned out, even when the guitarist was standing directly in front of me. The only part of their technical nature that I could still hear was the drums. To be fair, I'm only a casual fan of the band. I'm highly impressed by their sound, but I don't know the songs well enough to tell one from the other. Of the twelve or so songs they played, I only recognized maybe four. The rest was just a jumble of noise to me. As such, I will readily admit that greater fans of the band would appreciate it more. Of course, sound isn't the only part of a concert worth mentioning. They were quite an impressive and entertaining stage show. The tiny venue allowed them to get up close with the audience. Greg was consistently leaning into the audience to allow them to scream into the mic. The guitarists were often standing on the small barrier or occasionally on the bass drum. At other times, band members grabbed the speakers in front of the stage or even climbed on the lights. With the exception of a deliberately slower part, they brought the intensity the whole time. This was the aspect that most appealed to me. On the whole, it was an entertaining experience, but don't go expecting to be blown away by the sound- they instead impress with the experience. This review is probably lower than the average fan, but I'll admit that it was just because I had different expectations.

The entire show was enjoyable. I'll list them from the most enjoyable to least: Darkest Hour put on one of the best live shows I have ever seen. Not only was their performance darn near flawless, but the energy and stage presence they put out, along with the interactions with the crowd, made this easily one of the best experiences of my life. At the start of the night, I said "If I could shake John Henry's hand, that would make my night" I havd the pleasure of meeting John Henry and Ryan Parrish after the show. They were so nice and full of respect, I got to shake their hands and have a quick chat with the both of them. Ryan also let me get a quick picture with him! Even better, I didn't have to track them down; myself and bandmates/friends had a 7 person group outside smoking and John shouted at us, we shouted back, then he walked up to us and shook two of our hands and had a quick chat. They're just awesome dudes out having a good time! Animals as Leaders have so much talent, with a mix of Metal and Jazz, this instrumental band is a must see and their CD is a must have. I met Tobin after the show and had a quick chat. Very nice and intelligent individual. Iwrestledabearonce got into their show quite well. Their avant-garde style is a unique experience and their stage show is equally as interesting. Dillinger Escape Plan were rocking out pretty hard, but I personally don't particularly care for their music. They were getting into their show; head banging and all, but due to me spending all of my beer money DURING the Darkest Hour set, I left after a couple Dillinger songs. All of you, go see Darkest Hour! Check out Animals as Leaders if you get the chance as well!

i expected a lot from these guys and they brought more. the energy there was a buzz and a mortality reminder. absolutely life changing. i'm reaching for a definition, but there isn't simple description for the way this show affected me. it was beyond memorable and an unbelievable event. with a band like this, they're not the type you see once and cross off your list. i'm going to go every time i can and know factually i'll have an amazing time.

Wow...absolutly one of my top five shows ever! I have been going to rock shows for about 35 years now and have seen everyone from zepplin to chicago. And with very little doubt I can say that this was one of the best times I have ver had. Loved the opening bands as well. The basement is a great intimate venu to see a show. And dillinger was just incredable!

The whole lineup was great. Cult Leader, Car Bomb, O'Brother were good choices for openers. I will go to the shows for any one of them if they tour near me again. Very glad to see Dillinger before they go on hiatus. They put on one of the best, most high energy shows I've been to all year. Thank you to Dillinger for such an awesome experience.

The Dillinger Escape Plan is a technical metal band that live can play all their music perfectly, all while crowd surfing, hanging from rafters, running around the stage, and jumping off of speaker cabinets. There was not a dull moment, from when the houselights where turned off for their stage entrance (a mosh pit started, even before a guitar note or voice was heard), to Greg Puciato (lead singer) pulling people on to the stage during the final song. The crowd was a sea of movement the entire time Dillinger was playing. However, The Dillinger Escape Plan is probably not a good pick for a first time concert goer, just because of the intense energy the band has and the crowd feeds off of. Experienced metal show lovers will love it. I know I did.

Excellent show. If you're into heavy music these are the bands to see, creative, fun, interactive, and most importantly always keeping the show lively. So far the best show I've been to. Outstanding in every way, thank you to all the bands that played, please return. Planning on seeing them in the future and returning to the venue.

Perhaps one of the only bands I know that has raw power in their music. I hope that they will come around NYC soon. We will put on an amazing crowd for them if they do.

I missed the opening band, The Shining. I heard a lot of talk from other people there that they were sick. Retox (featuring Justin Pearson from The Locust on vocals) was the first band I saw. They had a sound similar to The Dillinger Escape Plan, and they were ridiculously good, like most things Justin Pearson is involved with. Trash Talk was wild. Their singer was in the pit for most of the show. Dillinger was dreamy and jaw-droppingly awesome. They're so good.

Awesome show! The Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals as Leaders, Periphery, The Ocean were all at their top game. Awesome music from everywhere! Newcomer band MARA was also great! A new group out of Baton Rouge, LA, They ROCKED! Extreme guitar riffs and an awesome bass player and keyboards. Really enjoyed their style of music and look forward to hearing more from them! Summer Slaughter @ HOB Houston is the BEST!

Excellent atmosphere, good vibe. Not enough pissers ... but stood in line with Alex Rudinger and the singer from Royal Thunder waiting for a bathroom and talked with them. Sound was pretty good. Some technical difficulties with the stage monitors and the close proximity of the sound board. Dillinger played like their hair was on fire. The Faceless did not disappoint and Royal Thunder a unique and cool vibe.

As always, DEP was brutal and full of energy. It was a shame the audience was smaller as that can affect the experience. Still they played great live.

Right in the heart of the hipster-laden, metrosexual capital of New York (and probably the world), the Dillinger Escape Plan once again blew the doors off a venue, and left the earth scorched after their performance, This was my seventh time seeing them, and they somehow continue to make every show more unbelievable, more astonishing than the last. I don't care what type of rock you're into, if you are a fan of the rock SHOW, you MUST see this band live. It is a spectacle, in every sense of the word. They never stop moving, jumping, bleeding, or crowd-surfing. Ever. They are pure energy: kinetic, frenetic, and uncontrollable. Yet somehow they manage to play their incredibly technical brand of punishing math-core, paint-peeling breakdowns and sing-along chorouses without missing a beat--even while standing on their amps, or the heads & shoulders of their fans. This is as real as it gets. If you want viscera, you got it.

Anyone who was there knows what an epic event this was. TDEP were just coming from two nights with the Deftones in times sq and the entire neighborhood blew up the house. They played all their classics and the 15 minute dog pile towards the end was absolutely monstrous.

Megalodon
I think the title explains it all. The gig was the type of gig you dream about going to. I woke up the next morning feeling like I survived something very special. Everyone should catch this band at least once, especially if they're playing a venue without barricades. I've brought people who hate the genre of music they play and they've always walked out just as awestruck as myself. I've seen Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse, Municipal Waste, Suicidal Tendencies, Alice In Chains,Converge,Mastodon, Deftones, Faith No More etc. This show topped them all. The only live bands who I've seen come close were Faith No More and Municipal Waste. Catch them live if you can- And even if the music doesn't sound "musical" to you, give it a chance. Once you see it in person with an open mind, you'll understand what it's about. Anyone who feels bad that they missed legendary gigs back in the day will feel much better after seeing The Dillinger Escape Plan. They prove that the magic of live musical insanity isn't dead yet.
