It was a nice surprise to see a band with a singer accompany the orchestra! I can't remember reading anything about them when I purchased the tickets. The singer was phenomenal!! The band and backup singers were very good too! We really enjoyed this concert!

Excellent, excellent time! We could have stayed for hours longer. They did a fantastic job honoring the Purple One. Thank you for bringing this opportunity to Duluth so that we all could enjoy Prince and his wonderful music.

We thoroughly enjoyed the DSSO (and chorus) Music of John Williams Concert. It was our first time hearing this fine group and we were impressed with their musicality and the energy and obvious joy they brought to the music. We would definitely consider another evening with them if we visit Duluth again.

A great show for the aging 1970s and 80s rockers still out there who want to get out and have a live show experience and have some good clean fun at the same time. Go ahead and take the kids...or the grandkids for that matter. Didn't see an unhappy face in the crowd! The mix on the choral group was weak in a few spots, otherwise, no complaints...it was a really good show. The second act, Hairball, was impressive but just a little loud (not a complaint, just an observation)...but 80s rock bands were always a little loud, right? If you have a chance to see it, check it out.

Great music, great job DSSO Orchestra & Choir, and loved both bands! The only thing I would have done differently is shortened the time between the DSSO Music of Queen and Hairball (a very talented group of musicians in their own right.) And I would have opened up the main floor for everyone (those of us sitting up above) during the first half of the night. Over all a great event for Duluth! Next year I suggest....Pink Floyd! Get Roger Waters too!!!

As usual, the DSSO was flawless. The chorus did a good job as well, although from where I sat (section C, row 1- front & center) the sound mixing made it difficult to hear them. The 7 members of the rock group from Toronto were so over-amplified that it was often as if they were on stage by themselves. Surprisingly, they made no attempt to look like, or perform like, the original members of Queen. They had zero stage presence. It was as if they were just another group doing a song or two from Queen - not a group performing two hours of the music of Queen and nothing but Queen.

I can not describe the fun we had at this event. My wife and I took our two kids (both UMD grads) and their dates to this event and had the best time ever. In fact - people that were seated next to us stated that they were glad to see people having such a good time at a DECC event. The event speaker stated that it had been years since rock concerts have been held at the DECC. I would strongly recommend more events!! The DSSO was awesome!! Thank you so much for memory that will last forever!!!!

The DSSO was great with the Queen concert. The sounds of the band mixed with the choir and orchestra was well done. Surprisingly though with all the well known Queen songs they played a couple I had never heard of. There was a long wait before Hairball got on stage but the wait was worth it. They were entertaining as well as extremely talented. I really enjoyed watching the guitarist that looked like Adam Lampert! He must be a gymnist by day....very energetic and flexible. The whole band was great and really made you think you were ate a KISS...ACDC....Poison.....Prince etc concert!!

Very well done. The chorus was very good, but was difficult to hear at times due to the orchestra & band & the audience. Maybe a few more mics in the back for them. All in all a good time.

Steve did a fantastic job with the whole show. He made you feel like you were sitting at his house chatting about Mr. Sinatra. His blend of stories and the great voice he has made a very enjoyable evening. The DSSO was a perfect back-up to his singing. They blended very well. Over all I would recommend him to my friends anyplace he is playing.

How can you not like Mozart! Our symphony makes me proud every time I have the priveledge of witnessing them. And Joyce Yang was truly a joy to watch and listen to. But that Girl can play that piano and ALL of the piano! I only wish the sound carried a bit louder. I was on the main floor towards middle front. Certainly don't have to worry about the music being too loud! Thumbs UP!

The music was just a perfect selection of mellow and up-beat numbers that were at once memorable and beautiful. The voices of both Doug and Debbie were amazing with regard to each and every number. DSSO provided an ideal accompanyment to each number. Of particular note were the songs: Mr. Cellophane, Memories and Music of the Night. Wow!! For New Year's Eve, t'was better that Mozart.

My husband, mother, and I totally enjoyed this pop concert. Debbie Gravitte and Doug LaBrecque gave top-notch professional performances singing a wonderful variety of Broadway selections. They both have awesome voices and are delightful entertainers who easily engaged the audience. The Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra played exceptionally well as usual. It was a very delightful way to spend New Year's Eve.

This was my first time attending a DSSO performance. I have wanted to go for years but have not had the opportunity. Last night I brought our 12 yr old and 10 yr old. It was an amazing experience for us all! Your beautiful music brought tears of JOY to my eyes several times. It was unforgettable, and I will certainly bring my mother and friends along next time. Thank you for all the hard work that goes into putting on a performance of this caliber. It was a very positive experience for my girls and I.

The DSSO had a stellar season opening. The Overture to Candide was spot on! The energy of the orchestra and the new conductor was soaring. The Grieg Piano Concerto completed the first half with the audience riveted. Mahler's first symphony completed the program with absolute finesse. Bravo DSSO! You deserved every one of those standing ovations!

This was a fantastic event to behold! We enjoyed it so much. The acoustics in the arena were not optimal in our opinion...it was difficult to hear the vocals clearly and the symphony did not have the "full" sound it normally does. The energy of the event outweighed these inconveniences however. Stunning!

It was a night to remember. I attended the New Year's Eve Symphony celebration with my best friend (who had never been to the symphony), embraced good friends that I haven't seen in awhile and made new friends. We truly enjoyed Israel Malachi and Bill Bastian, especially their blues music. Then the DSSO began to play and when Dirk Meyer and his group joined we were speechless!! They were right, "You ain't heard nothin' yet!" The surprise of the night was when the young couple next to us left their seats and then we saw them in the flash mob! It sure gave us a giggle. My friend said he never thought he would enjoy a symphony as much as he did. He was so excited he had to call his daughter and share it with her! We hope the DSSO makes a DVD of it because we would buy it! I heard others say the same. We would love to hear the DSSO play together with Dirk again. It was all Amazing!

The two pianos were pretty good - the most fun of course when the two played the upbeat song on one piano. Otherwise I thought that overall the music choices weren't superb except for a couple movements. Our seats were at the very top of the balcony so it maybe we didn't get very good sound.

I was so happy to get tickets to the DSSO Cirque De La Symphonie On Ice Spectacular when our out of town plans changed and we found we would be in Duluth for New Years. Turns out we enjoyed the event much more than what we had been booked to do. The DSSO was wonderful as expected and the addition of the Cirque made it absolutely spectacular!!! We were amazed at the first view of the new Arena as we entered from the parking ramp, a comfortable short walk. The seats were comfortable and easy to find. All other accomodations of the new building were wonderful. The arena was very well set up for this show. I much prefer the auditorium for viewing and hearing the orchestra. I personally did not like the orchestra "miked" as much as it was, but possibly it was because it was the first time in this venue. The show itself was outstanding, and the orchestra was very much at ease with the music. We enjoyed it very much. One criticism I would have would be the TV screen behind the orchestra, again maybe because it was the first time. Where we were seated the rear projector could be seen and it was a bright light in our eyes. Most of the scenes shown did not add that much to the enjoyment of the evening.

The Almost Elton John had a fabulous voice and was quite an entertainer. The orchestra was also very lovely. We sat in the balcony and the sound was very poor. Of course, The Wizard of Oz is one of my all-time favorite films so that was a plus from the start. I was curious to see how the interaction between the orchestra and the film was going to work out and I must say it was very well done. There were a couple of parts where the music lagged slightly from the film but it was barely noticeable and the orchestra got back on track quickly. I overheard a couple of people saying they were so absorbed in the film they forgot that the orchestra was playing because it was so spot on. I, on the other hand, have seen the film so many times that I was more focused on the musicians and they did not disappoint. Just an absolutely delightful performance!

I thought the symphony was a wonderful performance. The narration of 'Twas the Night before Christmas, the performance of the song from It's a Wonderful Night and the sing along with the candles. The evening was perfect. The decorations were beautiful, and the only song I had hoped would be included was "Christmas City of the North". Your lights spelled that out. This was a stunning performance. The music was flawless and the addition of projections brings the classical music listening experience into the 21st century. The review of the history of the space program touched many memories from my youth. Holst The Planets never disappoints! The only drawback to the excellent performance is the hall. The seats are really too close together and quite uncomfortable if people are next to you. I can't imagine ho uncomfortable bigger people might be!

Enjoyed the evening immensley...The round the world tribute was a good depicting of each area...my favorites were the taost to the Emeral Isles as in Danny Boy...and a salute to our own New York City made one want to fly off your seat just to get there...I thought the Viola section was particularly enjoyable, they seemed to really be enjoying it also...It added a lot when the Director told a little story about each piece. .Could you please do a similar concert each year...Variety is the key...!!
