Doug Benson
Doug Benson (“Last Comic Standing,” "Super High Me") has been on an album-a-year schedule since 2008 (his most recent release being "Gateway Doug 2: Forced Fun"), plus he has two popular weekly podcasts (“Doug Loves Movies” and "Getting Doug With High"), does the occasional film (“The Greatest Movie Ever Rolled”) and makes regular appearances on “@midnight” on Comedy Central. Such a busy schedule for High Times’ 2009 Stoner of the Year.

Doug Benson is hilarious! My husband and I have seen him 6 times this year and every time somehow gets better. This show in Sac-town was awesome. We got to sit right up front next to the stage! Ngaio Bealum opened for Doug and killed it! Doug started with a twitter roll call which was so much fun. My husbands tweet got Doug and the whole room laughing. Another guy tweeted something with #sacpunch (for Sacramento punchline)and Doug said "please don't. " . The crowd went wild. Seeing one comedian twice in one weekend would usually not be fun. But Doug Benson has so many different types of stand up comedy, it's a blast! I saw DLM on Thursday and this show on Saturday. And I laughed my ass off each time.

Went to see Doug, saw two people I'd never heard of. Doug was on stage maybe twenty minutes... And what's the deal with that part at the end? Get audience members on stage to perform for a bag of useless stuff? Nah.

This was a great comedy show in a fabulous small venue. We were at a table 2 feet from the stage and the service was good and speedy. The show was well-paced with two hilarious opening comedians and then Doug came on and it was exactly as I expected, silly and fun! After the show, he stood outside for probably at least an hour, giving autographs and taking pictures. Highly recommended!

Great show; Doug is so funny and the venue is super close up and personal to the artists & stage. Felt like we were all hanging out in Doug's living room. Wait staff were great, This is the 2nd year we've seen Doug at the Punch and hope he continues this tradition b/c we will be back, BTW, I m a 60 yo Mom who got turned onto Doug by my 22 yo daughter, who accompanies me to these shows. Way to go Spawn! :) I HIGHly recommend this show!

So I had purchased these tickets as a gift to my boyfriend who listens to the podcast. It turned out to be a gift for me. I'm a huge theatre nerd and loved every second of it. Although my boyfriend is also a theatre fan and he enjoyed himself too, it definitely became more of a group night. The venue was great and even offered free popcorn! Great, hysterical night overall!

I've been a long-time fan of the Doug Loves Movies podcast (since it was called I Love Movies), but this was the first time I was able to attend a taping. I brought my girlfriend who doesn't listen to podcasts, and we both had a blast, and she suggested we buy tickets for the next time DLM comes to NY.

This was my second time seeing Doug Benson on 4/21. I really enjoyed it. I think that his co-star and Doug do really great together. I don't particularly like his co-star on his own, I thought he did a lot of screaming and yelling but it wasn't that funny. The venue definitely needs more chairs for people to sit. Over half of the room was full of people standing. We got there an hour early, so we benefitted by being able to sit. My question, is why have seat numbers if there is not assigned seating?

We got tickets for this event to celebrate my son's 24th Birthday. My son became a fan after seeing the Super-size Me documentary, and has NEVER eaten at MacD since. When Doug Benson did Super-high Me, my two other sons became fans. As a mom, there is nothing better than hearing the laughter of your kids. Doug delivered!

We saw Doug's stand-up last year at BMH, and it was definitely not as good as DLM this year. Having more guests on the show was definitely a plus, and we were pleasantly surprised at how great the guests were (Matt Mira, Rory Scovel, Ken Reid). Sometimes when Doug travels the guests are comedians you've never heard of. Since Doug comes here once a year, you have to get in line early! We got to sit in the front row, and even though we got there super early, we made some friends waiting in line as a result. :) The show was fantastic and I can't wait to see Doug next year!!!

Such an awesome show. Have seen his live podcasts a few times, never got to see stand up. His special guests were just some of my favorite NY comedians already so made it even cooler. Finally, Doug calls up people to play his game. Had the honor of playing and winning!! Such a fun time will go every time he's in town.

Doug and his guests were great, love the podcast. There were only enough seats for maybe half of the audience, the rest stood for an hour. I think it is time to upgrade to a larger venue or get more chairs. We arrived over an hour before the show started and the line to get in was around the block. Who knew Doug was so popular?

Doug's set was disorganized and he told a lot of the same jokes I've heard before. I guess he's given up on memorizing his set, so he reads ideas off a piece of paper. Sometimes they work, but other times he couldn't remember what the joke was and it made the whole event seem amateurish, or like the work of someone who is just coasting. It wasn't the quality you'd expect from a professional comedian. He said he was rehearsing for a CD he would be doing the next night, but I didn't get any sense of a coherent set from watching this.

I blame myself for not doing my research, but this was definitely not a good show. I attend many comedy shows and there is nearly always some pot humor thrown in by at least one of the acts, which I don't have any issue with. But if you go to this show, be prepared to watch three comedians whose sole focus is weed. Seriously, over 90% of the show is a pothead rant. By the end, Doug was so high that it took 20 minutes to do one trivia question with a fan; he forgot his jokes midway through telling them, and if you were lucky you'd get the second half of it at some point later.

I completely understand that doug benson is a marijuana advocate but I was looking forward to this event for a few months and was extremely disappointed that he could barely function. I am a big fan of his comedy, but was upset at wasting my money, buying four tickets, driving an hour and a half to see him sip water and barely be able to put together sentences.

We've seen Doug Benson and Ngaio Beallum (sp?) several times each in recent years. They're always high - and they always do great shows. In fact, the only time I've ever seen Doug when he's not high was in his movie "Super High Me" (during the 30 days when he has to be sober). Wednesday night's show was in honor of 7/10 day (OIL when read upside down) and Doug was in full celebration mode. He even joked about how much of an effort it was to actually remember a whole joke. WAY beyond Super High!

Ironically enough, his openers were better. I LOVE Doug's "Doug Loves Movies" podcast and bought tickets to see him live. It was 7/10 (apparently a stoner holiday- hash oil day?) and he was so far gone that he wasn't funny at all. A bit of a bummer- used to his quick wit (even when high). He basically stood at a mic and drank water out of a glass with a straw. Mega bummer :(

Doug's a great comedian but I wish that he wasnt soooooooooooooooooooooooooo high. I get that he likes to smoke and get a little high before a show, but this was kind of ridiculous. Thankfully he had some great comics there to help him out.

So there were a ton of Doug Benson nerds there, and they were going to enjoy the night no matter what. My friend and I had only seen Super High Me, and never heard too much other than that. With all that being said, everything Doug Benson said was hilarious. Dudes funny as hell. I would absolutely go see him again - he did plenty of bits that were off the top of the dome too (see twitter feed comedy). Finally, the opener (Graham?) was awful. I'm sure his podcast is funny, but he is not a good standup comedian. I would imagine he'd kill around where he came from, but not a good fit for the coasts.

Doug Benson and Graham Elwood were great.. I would return for any standup/podcast/movie interruption that Doug Benson was performing at. Yes, I did not realize that I (and about 40 others) would be standing up, but 2 vodkas and the high level of humor kept me happy. And on the plus side (obviously I was standing near the near bar), I was one of the first in the meet and greet line. Minus side, I was pretty buzzed, and my complements to Doug and Graham came off slightly less than intelligible.

With high expectations, Doug Benson was the worst comedian I ever took the time to get a bunch of my friends together for my birthday and see. He was so high, he just kept reading his twitter posts for more than half the show. Very hard to believe this was material for his CD he was recording. Very little to laugh at. I am actually an ex-Doug Benson an now.

Overall a fun show. Doug Benson is a capable comedian but it's the ensemble nature of the program that makes it truly entertaining. The five comedians spent the first 80% of the show in a free-flowing conversation, followed by Doug Benson's movie games (the Construct-a-Title game and the Leonard Maltin game). As expected, the audience almost entirely consisted of fans of the podcast, and the "fan atmosphere" gave the show a certain energy. This was my second time seeing the Doug Loves Movies podcast recorded at Cobb's Comedy Club. The first time was back in February for SF Sketchfest 2012. I will certainly come back if the show returns again.

I an a recovered alcoholic and a member of SAFER. Doug was obviously drunk on stage, talked about alcohol, and was belligerent while off stage. His act consisted of reading tweets by members, slowly, with no real joke. He then read some 5 year old material. Then brought out Graham Elwood to complete the show and actually make people laugh while filling in more time by asking audience members questions about movies. WHY WOULD I PAY FOR THAT???? I waited years to meet him only to be sincerely let down by the man in person. If you want good Benson comedy, rewatch best-week-ever. I got more laughs from listening to his old material the first time, back when it was funny.

He's funny, on TV and Pandora. In person? He does at least half of his bit off his cell phone. I mean come on. The guy before him was funny, kinda weird, but at least he had an actual set instead of, "Hey let's see who tweeted me before the show dur-dur-dur" So if you like Benson, stick to the podcasts and movies. He sucked in person. There is a thing as being too stoned and just looking like a loser. I would never pay to see him again.

We thought we were going to see stand-up by Doug Benson only, but were (pleasantly) surprised by the format. I should have done more research so we could have been prepared with a nametag, but it was still great. Maybe i should have listened to previous podcasts before attending but i was expecting a comedy show instead of random improv chit chat that was rarely able to even force a smile. And nearly nothing about movies. I wouldn't have minded if Doug threw out movies and every riffed on them but the dialog just bounced around with no point, direction, purpose or humor. Not a single laugh involved. Worst 'comedy' experience of my life.
