John Kay and Steppenwolf

So, back in the sixties John Kay and Steppenwolf had many well known hits. But this LP, Monster and the album track was the pinnacle statement at a time when Vietnam and the sixties were spinning out of control. We had our selective service card and Monster was the ultimate anti-war, anti establishment protest song. These days a resurrection of sorts as we see history like a bad enchilada repeats. Danny Johnson on guitar is a fireball, John's vocals and guitar are spot on and this track well done evoking memories from decades ago. The band is terrific and the Steppenwolf cache of songs comes alive like it was 1967. Don't miss your chance to catch John Kay and company. Like the period psychedelic "Candy" and a soundtrack that would blow your mind "Live" Steppenwolf is amazing and relevant. Go, don't miss them!

John Kay and Steppenwolf took us on a Magic Carpet Ride back to the late 60's.

JK's voice is still spot-on. the only thing(s) missing were the 'signature' sunglasses and stories about how/when/where 'MCR' and 'B 2b W' came from! had stories about the other songs which were great!

John Kay still has it. He can rock the venue just as good (If not better) as he did when I saw him in the 70's and 80's. I never miss him when he is in Minnesota and you shouldnt either.

It was a good show, the Casino could have had the air condition on before the show started. The performance was good!!! :)

Wonderful concert! Both bands were fantastic. Played some old and some new.

Saw John Kay & Steppenwolf at the Grand Casino in Onamia, MN. Fantastic show - these guys were better than ever! Usually casino ballrooms do not offer great acoustics, but this one was an exception. Also, the video footage shown was great, often showing Steppenwolf foreman John Kay performing the same song 25 or even 40 years ago. .

John Kay & Steppenwolf rocked Grand Casino Mille Lacs. He and his long time band ripped through a set of tunes touching on the entire Steppenwolf catalog.

John Kay and Steppenwolf played a very good venue, the IP Casino. Really no bad seats and the acoustics are very good there. As it is most of the time at the Casino's the crowd is a little older and a little more sedate, lol. It was fun though, even though we may have been "Born to Be Wild" but grew up to be respectable, solid citizens. And the only "Pusher " we see is the one at Walgreens that hands us our heart meds. Band started out rocking with Sookie, Sookie, one of my all time favorites of the group. And though Steppenwolf did not have as many radio hits as some of the other bands of that era, their songs are very recognizable. They then jumped into Rock & Roll Rebels, with Kay's voice still very strong. John Kay was always a blues artist and toward the end he did a great version of Hoochie Coochie Man. They have large screens at the IP and they showed a lot of vintage pictures of the band. Doing that song there were a lot of blues players and many pictures from the Delta. Of course, the last two songs were Magic Carpet Ride and then Born to Be Wild. The place was rocking by then and the crowd was on their feet. Kays backup band was excellent (as you would expect) and he a very intimate stage presence and talked to the audience in-between songs. For an encore - of course - The Pusher. Nice long version with some very bluesy sounds. The band only tours about 10-12 times a year, worthwhile seeing them for sure.

This show was truly amazing. John Kay sounds exactly the same and the band still ROCKS !! Venue is one of the best - small. I would highly recommend seeing this show. You will not be disappointed. We love you, John Kay & Steppenwolf !!! Thank you for entertaining us even today!

Steppenwolf's performance was quite simply fabulous and made me feel like I was 25 years old again. Their music was like listening to a HD CD. Their sync with the video from the 70's was spot on. Would have been nice for the band to have had some pictures of themselves and stayed around to do a few autographs.

It was a great show. I had forgotten just how good John Kay is.

John K and Steppenwolf sounded just like the old days; played everything we wanted to hear. Talked just enough to be interesting. the accompanying video was truly amazing.

John Kay was warm and engaging with the crowd...told stories of the music and the bands' history...he really appreciated the audience and enjoyed making it enjoyable for the crowd.

musically fantastic, both Dude's holding up well, John Kay especially. Voices strong and music true to its original brilliance. Wish they would have played longer. Sure wanted to hear Sky Pilot and Steppenwolf 's WIld Hog Ride....

first song steppenwolf sang you couldn't here the lead singer. They did correct it on the next song. I didn't think they sang long enough. Not even an hour. The encore song they left out half the words and didn't sing all the song. The Animals were great!!

This was the first time I had attended an event at Winstar and I have to say I was disappointed in the venue. While smoking was prohibited at the concert itself, walking through the casino to get there was quite another story. The concert was held in what appeared to be a large meeting room, less than optimal acoustically and visually. I was also unpleasantly surprised, due to lack of detail in the seating charts, that my seats were not as close to the stage as I had thought prior to arrival. As for the show itself, Eric Burdon and the Animals were amazingly good. I had only seen them once before, about 40 years ago, and Eric's voice is still incredible at age 71 and he still showed flashes of that manic energy. I have seen John Kay and Steppenwolf many times, and they never fail to disappoint - very professional, and John's voice likewise sounds much the same as ever. However, in between acts, after the sound crew came out to set up and make adjustments, the guitar sound was muddled and the vocals were miked much too loudly - unfortunately, this somewhat overshadowed what would have been a typically tight performance by the band. Overall, it was a good show, which could have been great had it been held in an actual concert hall. I would not rule out returning to a concert at Winstar, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Eric Burdon has a great band and is still one of the most amazing singers ever. At his age, to be able to perform like he does is incredible. I recommend checking him out if you get the chance. Oh, by the way, my fourth row seats were pretty damn good too. Steppenwolf was pretty good as well.

great that these guys can still put on these shows and provide a great night of entertainment for all of their old and new fans.

Eric Burton and the Animals was the best show of the night. Although he was white of hair his voice was and sharp. His movements were pleasant to the eye. The audiance loved the the songs sang and would sing the lyrics of songs when ERIC Burton held up the microphone to the audiance to sing along. IT appeared the Animals were enjoying performing for us and we enjoyed llistening to them. The House of the Rising Sun and the end WE Go To Get Out of This Place were very good. John Kay and Steppenwolf did not seen to be really into the music. WE did not like their performance.

Robaire2000l, Eric Burdon and The Animals generated music that was almost unbelievable. Eric's voice and the skills of his band members have been honed to near perfection. I only wish I had seen them far more often over the years, they are just that great. John Kay and Steppenwolf were also a fantastic act. They invented the term "heavy metal" and still belt it out like they did in their youth. Near the end of their set they performed an inspiring "never give up" song, which meant a lot to many of us in the audience.

Very good - they have still got it. John Kay and Eric Burdon can still sing great. They both have solid bands. Well worth it!

The Animals were the best ever. His voice Hasnt change a bit. But then, Steppenwolf came on and the lead singers mic was so loud it was just static and the audiance was walking out. Just wish it could of been the Animals alone, and we went to see Steppenwolf.

As good as they ever where! Great show. Both bands played plenty of their old songs that the audience remembered

Eric Burdon and the Animals came on first without fanfare and started playing. They were great -- Burdon still has that cool voice that he carried over to War. They played all their great hits, including House of the Rising Sun, with the set lasting about an hour. John Kay and Steppenwolf followed with al liittle more drama. They too were excellent-- had seen them three time before and this was the best. The video they show with some songs is of Kay singing the same song when he was young. That is kind of cool. Steppenwolf''s set was also about an hour. Winstar is an excellent venue and we had great seats. In the ladies room after the concert, i heard some women saying they liked Eric Burdon best, and my friend agreed. I liked both in different ways. Check these guys out while you can....

They are getting older and don't have all the harmoneys but it was still entertaining.

was a GREAT show at the Legacy in Reno! all the front row seats were vacant at beginning of show everyone stormed the seats we were front row! it was great! lots of dancing a very memorable street vibe! thanks STEPPENWOLF! xoxo
