What's not to like? Kim, Kelley, Josephine & Jim, the lineup from the band's breakthrough 1993 album "Last Splash" playing that album in its entirety. And if that wasn't enough, they topped it off with a 30 minute encore with their first album "Pod". Kim's voice is still as good now as it was 20 years ago. Her & Kelley's guitar work was top notch, Josephine Wiggs' bass & Jim McPherson's drum anchor the songs (Josephine went behind the drums for "Roi," like she did on the album...had no clue!). Loved the twins' banter with the crowd (Kim kept asking us if we were doing alright, in the sincerest way possible) and each other. They seemed genuinely excited to play for us, on the last night of the tour, and we were head-over-heels for them. Kim & Kelley Deal are like the cool older cousins you always wished you had.

I haven't seen The Breeders since the early 90s when they opened with Nirvana - the only thing that's changed is how much I appreciate their music. Vocals on "New Year" were a little tough to hear, but once the crowd got the soundman to wake up everything from "Cannonball" to "Roi" where great. Kelley's performance was brilliant and fun, and Kim seemed to really be enjoying herself. Set was (sadly) pretty short, but was outstanding from start to finish. Only bad part of the show was the opening act. While reminiscent of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Porcupine Tree or If These Could Talk, Deer Hunter's vocals and delivery are poor at best. Throughout the show I kept wondering if this was a HighSchool group that had won a contest or if they were the opener for the opener. With an opening set that last nearly 50 minutes, and 10-15 of that being poor use of feedback and distortion heavy loop samples, Deer Hunter was easily one of the worse acts I've seen in years.

Kim and Kelly Deal and their bandmates played an incredible set of all my old Breeders favorites, plus some songs off their newest album, Mountain Battles. The crowd was polite and receptive to the music. It was an unforgettable night.

Josephine Wiggs played bass, meaning 3/4 of the "Last Splash" Breeders lineup was on stage. Maybe that's why the tracks from that album seemed to stand out during the show. Regardless, the whole set was great. The band was tight, they were obviously having loads of fun, and they, well, rocked.

I have been waiting for over a decade to see The Breeders live, and it was worth it. They played only about an hour and a half or so, but put together a great mix of their old and new stuff.

The original line-up with Josephine Wiggs standing in for one night on Bass was as good as it gets. The Deals were in rare form and unafraid to blast it out for a most appreciative SRO crowd...They still are relevant as they were in the 90's and have never lost touch with their audience.

This show so far in my concert goings was the best it was so cool and a blast! I was surprised that Joesphine Whiggs was there and filled in for Mando! I just thought wow it was almost the original lineup of The Breeders very cool. I loved every song they did and i knew all of them, which was good. I was in front and could see everything. I did't want them to stop playing, i wish they played all night! The Deal Sister's are so cool and they both have great sense of humors. The best experience in my life so far!

This was probably the best show I've seen in years. The opening act was pretty good for what they do, but the minute the Breeders took the stage I completely forgot who had opened. Kelley and Kim Deal were amazing and looked like they were having a blast. I was a bit afraid that they'd be up there just kind of going through the motions and trying to earn some cash This was NOT the case. The sound was great. They played pretty much everything I wanted to hear. It was just a straight-up fun show!

It was an awesome environment and the breeders didn't fail. They not only played Amps songs but they played more than 20 songs that it you felt they really did it for their fans. They also came back with two encores! what a band.

Its great to be at a show where the band really enjoys being there. Kim and Kelly and the band really had a great time and appreciated the audience...and the show was great. Played all their great songs and had Carrie the violinist to play on a few tracks, including the the encore, Drivin on 9. Would love the Breeders to continue to make music in the future. Great intimate setting for the 1000 or so that were there.

I love rock 'n' roll. I'd like to listen to it the rest of my life. My fear is every guy on the soundboard (sorry ladies) is deaf. I would really appreciate being able to listen to the artist rather than be blasted by the power of the mega watt sound system. This may or may not be the artists fault. Their name is on the ticket so they should have control of their product. In the case of the Breeders show this situation was particularly evident with the warm up act. I'm sorry to say they were the worst band I've heard but they made up for it by playing real loudly. Not funny. I went outside to save my eardrums for future use. The Beeders were excellent. The show would have been great if the volume were down enough to allow listening to the preformance. Lower volume would do that and hopefully it would make the rude people that come to shows and talk the whole time, shut up! As it stands now most, not all, shows at the Vogue are so loud people scream into each others ear and think they are not disturbing the show. Kim Deal is a talent. She has written songs that are musically and lyrically interesting upon repeated listenings. She is an artist not a commerical entity. That holds true of all the acts booked at the Vogue Theatre. Kudos to whoever does the bookings. Can you talk to the soundboard person and keep the volume to a no loss of hearing level? A friend of mine actually got vertigo after a show. Possibly brought on by sound pressure waves. Thanks for a great show Kimmy and company!

Flew in for this show because Denver wasn't included on this tour. Best place ever to see a Breeders show. Small basement room with excellent sound. Just like hanging out with them in a studio. Great concert!

The Breeders are one of the most creative and joyful bands I've seen. All the songs were interesting and different. Even the stage setup was unique, with the drummer on the far side meaning there was simply a line of musicians. Very cool, sounded great!

Clad in men's jeans and boxy shirts, the Deal sisters - who are pushing 50 - look more like stoned soccer moms than the icy-cool grunge queens I remembered them as. However, their sound was just as raw as it was in the early '90s, and Kim's voice remains amazingly clear and kittenish. With songs from Pod, Last Splash, Title TK and beyond, The Breeders spawned a powerful albeit temporary revival of their most influential years in music, with just a pinch of bashful interaction with the crowd. Nostalgia alone (okay, and some beers) could have kept me blushing and dancing through the whole show, but a killer set list and the Fine Line's great sound quality made things even easier. It just might have been the best show I've ever been to ... once I got over their outfits.

This was my first time here at the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill. I was very impressed with the venue and I really liked how close I was to the band. The opening band was a somewhat unknown band called Times New Viking. They were somewhat of a mix between Sonic Youth meets Breeders meets Nirvana. Very eclectic and they were a great opener for the Breeders. The Breeders played several songs that I was not familiar with, I for one have not been following as close as I did back in the 1990s. The songs that I did remember were 'Last Splash,' 'Iris,' and of course they did an excellent cover of 'Happiness is a Warm Gun.' All in all I was impressed with the show and I was kicking myself for not being more familiar with the band. Regardless it was an excellent show, even if you aren't familiar with their catalog I would highly recommend this show!

Great show, a mix of their older and newer sets. The sound system wasn't tuned to its best effect for any of the performers and The Fillmore does not allow videos to be taken. Still photos are allowed. Drinks are $4.50 (soft) to $14+ (mixed); food is very limited but available. The staff are exemplary and security is flawless. Nearby parking is about $9 for the evening.

Fantastic show. Who would have thought Last Splash would be a sing-a-long album, but the entire crowd new every word. Kim Deal couldn't have been happier, either. She was smiling ear to ear the entire show. It's great seeing an artist that loves their album as much as the fans, and loves performing it even more. The only negative was that the sound board guy couldn't quite figure out the mix. The vocals were way too low for the first three songs. Even when they eventually fixed the vocals to an acceptable level, the high end was still kinda missing from the mix. Oh well. Totally worth the 8 hour drive!

The show was amazing! They played stuff from Pod, Sarari, and of course most of Last Splash. They were very tight and Kim Deal was looking very beautiful and radiant. It was very cool to see one of the founders and original members of the group, Tanya Donelly join in on some numbers. Got a chance to see Kim up close and personal. She also signed my Safari t shirt. What a great night - The Breeders were back and in all their glory. Blazed through a spot-on raucous yet tender recreation of Last Splash in its entirety - talk about rolling back the years yet the material is still as fresh and life-affirming as it was 20 years ago. Hearing the Deal sisters harmonize is a slice of heaven on earth for me. The band really seemed to enjoy performing the set and the same can certainly be said for the crowd, which ranged from 20somethings to early AARP members! Bodies weaving, fists were pumping, heads bobbing - true awesomeness. So glad they've reunited for these shows - pity they're doing so few but hey, none of us are getting any younger! I just know this 49-year-old certainly had way too much fun. GO GO GO!

I love the Breeders and see them every chance I get. This show, at Diesel in Pittsburg, had 7:00 on the tickets and there was to be a special guest. We had tried to call the club to see when the Breeders would be on, but there was no info on the message and no way to speak to someone. I came from Cleveland, and arrived at 8:30, and the Breeders were already on. We were told that they went on at 8:00 and would play till 9:30. The show ended at 8:10. I thoroughly enjoyed the show that I saw. Josephine Wiggs was with them they did the Pod song, Metal Man, which was awesome. I unfortunately not hear (probably missed) any of the new songs from their EP Fate to Fatal. We saw about 6 songs. At the end, Kim shook my hand, and I love how great she is with her fans. I really love this band! Afterwards, the club was immediately turned into a nightclub for the party kids. My only request is that if a club has plans for a second "event" (a big nightclub scene after the show), that the tickets be marked with "EARLY SHOW", and have helpful info on the phone message. A recent show in Cleveland, also with 7:00 on the ticket, had the headliner playing from 11:00 to 12:15. I have seen hundreds of shows, and rock shows in bars do not start that early. Maybe, I'm used to Cleveland, but a headliner starting at 8:00 on a Saturday night is unheard of. I am very sorry I missed 1/2 the show, being a huge fan. The Breeder's are great. Deisel isn't.

Without sounding too much the geezer, the first thing I said to friends as The Breeders finished their August 21 set at the Black Cat was how much it reminded me of shows at the old 9:30 Club. The old 9:30 was ratty, clammy, and grimy and had terrible sight lines blocked by cement columns. However, you could sit on the edge of the stage, serenaded by Throwing Muses or the Butthole Surfers. At the old 9:30, a sauced Shane McGowan of the Pogues once fell on me, forcing me to find the strength to shove him back up onstage (mind you, I am 5'2"). I was stared down by the blistering green eyes and granite neck of Black Flag's Henry Rollins from three feet away. And I watched a young Beck Hanson break dance through a throng of sweaty grunge boys. The Breeders' Black Cat show reminded me of what I loved most about shows in the old DC punk scene - an adoring crowd, innovation, and smart authenticity. It's rare to go to a show in which every song is interesting and worth hearing. Kim Deal's vocals have such an odd and haunting melodicism. They steam off to the ceiling like they'll never resolve - and then her twin Kelley doubles them with equally unusual harmonies. I always loved Kim's (mostly) backing vocals in the Pixies, but you don't realize (or at least I didn't) how much of the Pixies' sound was crafted by Deal until you listen to a lot of Breeders, from her songwriting to the way she carves a pattern with guitar. I'm not denying Frank Black is a genius and that the Pixies have influenced a whole generation of successful bands. I'm just saying Kim Deal should wrest back some of the credit for their sound. Her work in the Breeders is no less noteworthy, great to listen to and watch. The Breeders' set was so interesting, most songs coming from the old Last Splash days. Most people I spoke to concluded the same thing: it's impossible to note all the influences in their music. Yes, there's some Dick Dale in the guitar work, but they don't do surf. Sometimes it's danceable, but often decidedly not. Some songs are quiet, while others peak with distortion. Sometimes the song structures are abstract, as are the lyrics most of the time. But the band members interplay and build so well that any abstraction is firmly grounded, bouncing about between playful, structured riffs. And nearly all members at one time or another switch instruments - Kim Deal from guitar to drums, Kelley from guitar to violin. And their drummer sets up on the side of the stage, not behind, so everyone can see and hear each other for better communication. I entered the show knowing and liking a few Breeders songs and came out thoroughly impressed. Go see them wherever and whenever you can!
