For 2 years now, my girls and I make the haul to NOLA for VooDoo Festival. Its an absolute blast and we always have a great time. Plan for any kind of weather and know that the Acts, big and small, will give you what you came for - A Fabulous Entertainment in a Fabulous City! We enjoyed every concert, but the KISS boys were a bit on the "downer" side. That didn't stop us from jammin with Lenny Kravitz. Too many favs to list, but know that they put on a great show and we have yet to leave this city without excitement for the next trip!

Voodoo Experience was one of the best times I've ever had. The lineup was a diverse mix of new talent and old favorites. The weather was questionable at times, but that didn't kill the vibe. My favorites: G. Clinton & PFunk, Widespread Panic (My favorite band), Gogol Bordello, Jane's Addiction, Wolfmother, Ween, Robert Randolph, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty, Flaming Lips...to name a few. It was THE place to be on Halloween; there's nowhere like Nolaween. It was an amazing experience that I would most definitely recommend.

I've gone in years past and it saddens me to say that this year I was left very disappointed. They had a few great bands, and I did discover some bands I've never heard/seen until that weekend. However, I felt like past years were WAY better in selection and variety. The set up was small, and wasn't as big as years past. I felt that for what was offered, ticket prices were too high and should have been reduced drastically. Voodoo merchants selling pipes, clothing, food, etc. were cool to look at but it looked like they were packed in very tight spaces. Just overall disappointed with the layout, size, and variety. I'm going to assume it's because of the way the economy is and that future festivals are back in full swing like years past.

I've been to Jazz Fest many times and I really think I perfer the Voodoo experience. Great live performances from a WIDE range of artist and the food and drink was always easily excessable. People there were fun, entertaining and there wasn't anything that felt rude to me at all. I think it's because Voodoo isn't the big tourist attraction that Jazz Fest is,.. and in my mind,.. that's a plus! I will be going again next year. Good job everyone.

simply put i have been to the voodoo a few times and i thought this weekends linup was weak compared to past years . seemed like being at jazz fest with all the local flavor. i support our music industry but would have liked to have seen more rap, rock, and bands that we rarely if ever get in NO but Kiss was sick and they made my 169$ ticket worth it just seeeing them. i hope next year they will get back to having bands like STP, NIN, LIve just to name a few I mean Shinedown played here 2 weeks ago they would have been beautiful at Voodoo.. thats all i will be there next year but never again without a VIP pass i never had a general ticket and the weather and grouonds sucked for some of it and i just cant enjoy shows soaked in rain and caked in mud so VIP from now on

Compare to previous years (I can speak about three years ago because that's how long I've been going), this year's VooDoo experience lineup was very poor. I don't know if it was because the bands weren't my favorites, but I had more fun at the after-shows at Bourbon Street than I did at the moody city park. Lineup was: Eminem, Jane's Addiction, Wolfmother, The Flaming Lips, Lenny Kravitz, and the most overrated band in the history of rock and roll....KISS (my A**). An overall LAME experience! (and a moody one too)

Again the Vodoo was out and caught all the best of what the experience is about. The bands were fantastic and the people of Nowlins were awesome. I will be back and my son and I again will rock, walk, and sing our way to an experience only found at this event!!!!

The lineup for this year's Voodoo Fest was subpar and they need to step it up next year. The crowd was not into most of the bands and were very thin. Food was good though. $75/day is also a ridiculous price unless they have a superb lineup which this year they definitely didn't. I paid early for the 3 day pass but none of my friends wanted to go because of the price for a day ticket and the lineup. In this economy how could they hike up ticket prices? I just how the organizer of Voodoo will take notice of the attendence even if the overall sales could have been higher because of inflated prices.

Even though the first day was a little wet the music was fantastic. The mix of bands was worth the money. Very talented musicians. Only problem was that Saturday evening the bands start times were too close and couldn't see everyone.

I've been to almost all of the Voodoo Festivals and it has gotten much more organized. The retail and art areas are better, the flow of music is better, the parking shuttle was nice, even the entrance is better. But the problems I have are that the parking should be more organized with people directing traffic and more signs, there should be more sand or hay or wood to make walking in muddy areas easier, and last but NOT LEAST, the bathrooms. The bathrooms were something out of a Third World. Ankle-deep mud/whatever is NOT acceptable for what we paid in ticket prices. Even the workers in that area should not be exposed to such filth. Yeah, you added a Purell station, but c'mon. With a so-so line-up this year, the bathrooms brought my overall score down a bit. I'll also add that the "Big Top" Bingo tent or whatever it's called needs to be trashed. Just make it a stage. Nobody can see or get in with that tent there. Lose it. In a dreamword there would also be less dirty drugged-out kids dancing and spinning all around in my way but hey, it's a festival.

It was Experience of a lifetime. Nothing like Halloween at VooDoo Fest. Bands were great, particularly was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the blues/jazz lineup, Soco stage, Preservation Hall. Eminem put on a fabulous show as well. Fortunately it only rained Friday, but sloshed through the mud Saturday and Sunday.

Aside from the fact that Friday's rain made the grounds super muddy, it was all in all a great experience. I suggest sneaking food and drinks in, because the prices of everything are sky high. However, the shows were AMAZING. KISS, Jane's Addiction, and especially The Flaming Lips put on such a fantastic and theatrical show. Worth every penny.

I have to say that I was really dissapointed in Voodoo this year. First of all..you have to walk about 2 miles to get from the parking to the front entrance (lame). They need to fix this....secondly it was rainy, muddy, the average age this year was like 16, and not enough alternative headlining bands. It is rock and rap.....which is a complete sellout. This festival needs the integrity and bravado it was founded on / started with. Where are the bands like Radiohead? Pj Harvey? Bjork? Tori Amos? If we want to be a world class concert series like Coachella or Austin City Limits...New Orleans needs to step it up. We can do better than Kiss and Eminem (no offense).

I am comparing this festival to others I have been to such as ACL in Austin. Logistics were terrible. City Park is too expansive of an area for a smaller festival like this one. It should be compacted. Not necessarily the distance btwn the stages but every other distance. Parking was like 3 miles away from the gait (a 45 min walk). Performances and sound quality were average. I had seen most of these acts give better performances elsewhere. Food was average. Typical New Orleans cuisine choices (shrimp and grits, po boys, gumbo, etc...). Nothing was exceptional about this festival. Will not be going back. Especially at $75 for a single day.

Voodoo was an awesome, art-filled, unforgettable Halloween experience. The best place to celebrate Halloween on the planet. However, scheduling could have been better so that George Clinton and KISS weren't playing at the exact same time, because both were fantastic, colorful shows. Also, the Voodoo bathroom crew did not clean the bathrooms all day. I have been to Bonnaroo and seen how easily the crew can clean the bathrooms in the middle of the crowd at least 2-3 times per day, and this did not happen once at Voodoo. Disgusting and inexcusable. Other than that, the festival grounds were very clean and the stages and booths were well laid-out. The only liquor sold is SoCo which is disgusting. But, I'm definitely going next year because I can't imagine a better Halloween anywhere else!

The whole line-up was fun for myself & friends. We loved the music part as much as anyone who enjoys the arts. I do have to say though fun, the bathroom situation left nothing to be desired. I , along w/ all who went , hated the lack of toilets, lack of care for them & the lack of the convenience. We are avid festival go-ers & this was by far the worst I've ever seen. I truly hope as the Fest grows , they too will grow & learn from what worked & what didn't.

The lineup the day I went was good, but all the main acts played between 7 and 10, and overlapped, so you had to choose which to see, instead of spacing out the big names. During the day mostly smaller acts and local. The arts sections were cool to see during the day. The food was good, but not cheap, and there were NO SOFT DRINKS in the entire park. No Soft Drink sponsorship. You had a choice of Natural Light Beer, SoCo, Redbull, Daquiri's and lemonade. There was one place I saw selling water. And lemonade was $5 bucks. It rained the day before, and the park was a MAJOR mudpit. The porta-toilets were unbelievably bad, and you had to slosh through several inches of mud to get into them. Once it got dark there were no lights so you had to try not to fall in the mud, you couldn't see where you were going when you were trying to get to the stage areas. It was very crowded and most of the show you ended up watching from a video screen. It was pretty much like any other outdoor gig, dirty and muddy, bad toilets, but you kinda expect that. But for the cost ($75 one day) I was hoping to be able to see more of the headline acts I liked instead of them all playing the same time. And I would of sold my soul for a Coke about 8pm. If there is someone you REALLY want to see play it would be worth going. I would go again if an act came through that I wouldn't otherwise get to see, but just for the hell of it, no.

I've been going to the Voodoo experience for 6 years now and have loved every year. I was planning on buying the VIP experience this year, but chose not to because of the line-up. The local acts were GREAT, but the headliners left a bit lacking. I was especially underwhelmed with Eminem's performance, and thoroughly confused as to why he was headline and Alternative Rock fest. It's been years since he's been in front of an audience and it shows. The security was stricter than normal, I guess because of Eminem (another reason he shouldn't have been playing). The VIP experience looked great, and as long as the lineup is good next year that's what I'll be buying. The food was incredible (make sure to get the fish tacos) . All in all a great fest, and I'll be there again next year.

Loved the Halloween theme and also the artistic aspect. Well-organized yet not too draconian in terms of rules. Friendly, helpful staff, and top of the line entertainment. The food was better this year than in 2006. I was there for Sat/Sun,much more for the mid-range acts than the top billed groups. Loved the March Fourth Marching Collective.

Perfection. The lineup was amazing, not as good as in previous years but still unforgettable. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic brought the funk, Silversun Pickups were impeccable, Jane's Addiction was legendary, Brand New was awesome, Janelle Monae was on fire, Lenny Kravitz was great, Kiss rocked the place, Wolfmother absolutely killed it, and the Flaming Lips were unbelievably, surreally divine. I would recommend Voodoo to anyone who enjoys a good time.

Voodoo was absolutely amazing. I am 25 years old and had never been! The atmosphere was unbeatable! The Kiss show untopable!!! The one down side is parking. I thought that Voodoo Fest was one of the best experiences I've ever had musically. I went last year and it was great, but the lineup this year was amazing. I mean, it could have been a little better, but the people that were there were SO incredible. Eminem sounded great, but it did bother me that he didn't finish any of his songs, but overall he put on a really terrific show. Kiss was one of the best shows I've ever been a part of, Jane's Addiction was really good, and I thought Widespread's show was really good. The highlight of my Voodoo experience was definitely the Flaming Lips. They put on such an incredible show, and they played all the songs I wanted to hear. Gogol Bordello was really fun too. Overall,Voodoo Fest was my favorite thing I have done all year.

This was my first time to voodoo fest and I must say besides the mud and bathroom situations it was amazing... I was there primarily for Down and I was not disapointed,as always they put on an unforgetable show. At first i was discouraged about the size of the bingo parlor but it would have been unpersonable to be at one of the bigger stages trying to see them up close. I ended up leaving with a memory that I will take with me to the grave. This was the best Halloween I have ever experienced....

The only problem, the mud from the rain Friday night, maybe there could have been hay put down or something, at least in the areas where lots of people would be walking.

We could only afford to purchase a one-day ticket to Voodoo fest, and I believe you only need to go one day to get the experience. Even though we live near New Orleans, this was the first year we've been to Voodoo Fest. We're big fans of The Flaming Lips, and after their amazing performance in 2006 at Voodoo Fest, we were NOT going to miss them again. We went on Sunday to see The Pogues, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Flaming Lips, and The Meat Puppets. After waiting all day to see FL, we were too tired to stay for the MP. I don't see how anyone can make it all three days! This festival is amazing though.

What could be more fun than meeting up with thousands of other zombies at a perfectly beautiful venue in New Orleans to hear great music? I couldn't think of anything that could even come close, so into the cab I hopped. (I can't comment on the parking.) We didn't beat the current record of zombies gathered, but seeing zombie pirates, zombie superheroes, zombie barbie dolls (oh that was Marie Antoinette, sorry!), you get the idea...all the usual monsters only undead- What a sight! Maybe next year we can get sign up sheets at more spots (like the entrance?) and have the paraders announce the event as they move through the park. I went for the live music, and stayed for the chance to break a record. I'm glad I stayed. Jane's Addiction hits home again, and KISS is an amazing show- even after all these years. My greatest surprise was hearing Morning 40 Federation. I could have sworn Leon Redbone had slipped onto that stage along with the 15 or 20 odd participants up there. The lyrics were true, the voices blended beautifully, and the band was tight.

I went to Voodoo in '07 and caught Rage and the Pumpkins, thought it was amazing and didn't come back the year after. Came back in '09 for the Flaming Lips, Janes Addiction, and the PFunk and I have to say the festival has only gotten larger and better. As is the usual the commercialization of the festival has become immense which is never a festivalgoers favorite thing, but the music has largely become more diverse and better. Voodoo has come from being Jazzfests younger more annoying kid brother, to a fully matured and intersting festival. I'd highly recommend it for the Halloween festivities. There isn't a festival with as great of food or in a city quite as unique as New Orleans (ok other than jazzfest). Go

We purchased the 3-day LOA/VIP tickets. While this was convenient and well positioned it was kind of pricey for what you actually received. Also more toilet facilities needed!! What a great experience. Flaming Lips does an incredible light show. Standing outside while watching this cool band under a clear sky with a full moon was just incomparable! The Voodoo setting in City Park is the best place for an outdoor music fest, especially during Halloween. I would highly recommend this event to anyone! It was amazing. Ween was soo good, I was disappointed because Ween and Eminem were playing at the same time and I was torn between the two. Ween was supposed to go on earlier but was delayed due to technical difficulties so they ended up going on about the same time. They had booths set up with some excellent local art. Everything about the show was great- except for the mud of course but that was not really something you can really control. I had a great time and can't wait to see who they bring next year!

If you can go to one music festival a year, this should be at the top of your list. new Orleans is the perfect place for a festival, especially one that coincides with halloween.

Overall I had a blast at voodoo. It was my first time and I will probably make it back next year. I just wanted to point out a few things that could have been better. I have been to a lot of festivals and I don't think I have ever encountered one that didn't have recycling bins! If there were some I couldn't find them. There were so many recyclables in the trash it was terrible. Another thing was when we were walking around at night the walkway wasn't lit at all, we were tromping through total darkness. That was a little strange. And I was a little bitter they took my umbrellas even though they didn't have pointy tops. Oh, one last thing. We didn't see a map of any sort(was there one?) of what bands were playing at which stages. That could have been more clear. Other than that, it's a great venue. The Bingo show in the circus tent was really fun. And so was seeing Ween. #1 concern.....recycling!!!! Thank you!!

voodoo was full of hidden gems like little freddie king and walter "wolfman" washington, however, among all the awesome music there were some whack artists on the bill chosen just to draw a huge crowd. the food was awesome, my only complaints would have to be eminem and no camping.

The Voodoo Fest was very good this year. This was my second year, and it was my favorite. A lot of the acts were unfamiliar to me, but I was open to all. Being that way made the entire weekend that much better. Friday was my favorite day because I saw the techno duo Justice. Although it has been said in previous places, I will still say that these guys are the new rock stars of the 21st century. Also I must admit that I really do like their music, and I am pretty subjective. Although Kiss was the big draw on Saturday, I personally did not find them very interesting. I was very happily surprised when I watched some great funk music by George Clinton and the P-Funk band. It was way better than Kiss. On Sunday one of my favorite bands Brand New played. Again, I am being subjective, but they have many meaningful lyrics and good music in my opinion. Finally, LENNY KRAVITZ. Enough said. It was a magical closure with Trombone Shorty coming out and the very very extended sing along of Let Love Rule. Overall, I had an uplifting time without having to take a drink or smoke pot! Thank you MUSIC!!!

i think this was a great event for the price of the ticket ($103) for a 3-day festival. i got my ticket before the lineup was announced and ended up being somewhat disappointed. the lineup paled in comparison to the 08 lineup, but still had a few big draws for me. but none were major name bands. i did enjoy the show KISS put on. i liked the FYE tent with autograph sessions with several bands because silversun pickups and mutemath were 2 bands i was really interested in seeing. i do enjoy the variety of types of music offered at the different stages. it is always fun. and despite the rain and mud, we had a great weekend and plan to go back next year.

Voodoo 2009 was a great experience. A great and diverse lineup with local New Orleans favorites, current top selling acts, and and opportunity to say "yea I saw that band one time". I had shelled out the extra bucks (early) for the LOA (VIP) pass. Having the separated area in front of the Voodoo stage was worth the extra bucks alone but I do have a few minor complaints. 1) if one of the selling point for the pass is the privet bathrooms, have enough to fulfill the claim. 2) The security folks worked real hard and did a good job of keeping things safe without bringing the whole scene down but, on several occasions some people were just waltzing in the the LOA (who did not pay for it) area in front of the stage. I know that might sound snooty but I paid the extra not to have to fight with the crows give you security team more help. 3) the information about what was going on in the LOA area (music, food, services) was lacking, provide handouts. The event it self appeared to be well put together and the space was well used. After the rain on the first night the crews worked very hard to contain the mud issues and I feel that did a good job. I also have to throw praise to the person who contracted SDT and the SDT staff. I have never been to a event like this and it be so well picked up. All in all if was a great event and I would love to go again next year.

Even the rain couldn't ruin the weekend. The festival started out with a heavy rain keeping the crowds at bay, which is unfortunate because they missed a great Black Keys performance, as well as your only chance to catch Eminem this year. Em brought it on Friday night as a rowdy crowd fought to stay dry. The rest of the weekend was beautiful with great weather. The main concert grounds themselves held up remarkably well. Unfortunately, you had to trudge through several inches of thick mud to get there. All of the food areas were incredibly muddy. But the music is what we are there to worship and that didn't let down. New Orleans' own MUTEMATH was incredible on Saturday. Wolfmother was excellent. Jane's Addiction was average while KISS brought down the house. On Sunday, All Time Low, Brand New, Flaming Lips, and Lenny Kravitz rocked the main area. You should also venture out to the other areas, such as the Bingo Parlour tent and the WWOZ stage. This year, they also offered $5 parking in the old Marconi Meadows. It's a much better value than the $20 Delgado parking and nearly as close. But if you stay in the official Voodoo hotel, you can get onto the shuttle and get dropped off at the gate.

As a Voodoo veteran, I was pleased that Voodoo returned to it's usual awesomeness this year. It took place on Halloween weekend (as it will next year) which made the voodoo theme more genuine and fun. Nearly everyone was in costume and the bands performed wonderfully. The food was fantastic as usual, serving up good ole' New Orleans cooking (crawfish pies, po-boys, fried crab claws, etc.).

Silverson Pickups, Wolfmother, Kiss, were Lenny Kravitz all great but those were the only bands that were worth going to see. This year's line-up fails to compair with the line-ups in the past.

I only went to this festival to see one person and I finally got to see him in concert after about a 5hr drive. I have waited almost 20 years to see Lenny Kravitz and it was well worth the wait! He and the entire band are so talented. Lenny had so much energy and sang with his whole heart! Lenny sounds great on CDs, but in person, his voice is even better if you can imagine! He is also such a talented musician and can play just about any instrument as he showed on stage. He showed how much he loves music, by showcasing the talent of the other band members as well. I truly enjoyed myself and would highly recommend Lenny Kravitz to anyone that loves his music. Some bands/singers don't sound anything like their CDs when you actually see them live. I can assure you that this is not the case with Lenny! I love, love, love him...lol! Let love rule!

I would completely recommend Voodoo Fest 2009. The weather this year, was not that great and the ground was gross and muddy, but it was a great experience. It was great to be able to see so many bands over the entire weekend. I traveled to New Orleans from Atlanta, and was shocked to meet so many people from so far away.

I've been to this show every year. Living in NOLA, it was one of the fun events like Mardi Gras, The End Fest, Jazz Fest, French Quarter Fest, etc. Though the music was good, the line-up in previous years' was better. Couldn't find a Coke. The smaller stages with more local/indie music is gone. The bands playing in the Bingo Tent were good (really wanted to see Down) but not really a set-up for music. The vendors weren't as interesting as previous years except for the food. To put all of the bathroom facilities near the food was not brilliant. Also, since most of them were located in the same place, the lines were just silly. The website did not allow of .pdf down loads of the schedule. It would have been nicer to have a less fancy print out of the map. Also, under transportation there was no link for the options. Like when Jazz Fest was taken over by new promoters, it seems that VooDoo is now a tourist trap. I am seriously considering not atttending next year. I still have folks in NOLA but probably will try to go during a different festival. Jazz Fest and now VooDoo are so commercial that they have ceased to be fun.

Had low expectations for Eminem(ena), & he needs one. Why the anger? Marginal skills have gotten him 10's o' mill's. Be grateful. Wolfmother rocked! Jane's Addiction was outstanding, as was Lenny Kravitz - his show was fun. Trombone Shorty works it! Love Mofro, but set was too short. Disappointed Robert Randolph was stacked against Lenny, I'm sure RR was great. And KISS was a cartoon...

It was cold, wet, and muddy... Parking was horrible... Only one way in and one way out... I found this event to be rather expensive and the only group worth watching was KISS! I think it should be around 40 dollars a day like Jazz Fest.

This was my first experiance with Voodoo Fest and I loved it!! Ended up not seeing Silver Spun Pickups as I wanted do to the rain being so hard Friday night which was a big disappointment. The grounds were well kept and the event was well worth the money. Would like to see more bathrooms and a better job cleaning them up during the day. Other than that, everything was great!!

Even the rain on Friday couldn't ruin the fun at the festival. Everything was run smoothly and laid out nicely. Jane's Addiction was the best act, White Unicorn by Wolfmother, drum solo went to Kiss' new guy, guitar solo- Navarro on 3 days, Bass solo- The dude from the Nuns guy, and best vocals were those of Lenny Kravitz.

Saw several of the bands and some of my friends in the Bingo Tent. The New Orleans Bingo Show is not to be missed whenever or wherever they play!!!! Just incredible!!! Jello Biafra was amazing!!!! When he came out with the Morning 40 Federation, that was my favorite performance!!!!!! Josh (lead singer/sax player for the Morning 40) looked like a kid on Christmas - mind blown and ecstatic!!!! Loved the Pogues - Shane was trashed, no surprise there, but the band was tight and played great. The only complaints were the LOA VIP area. Not enough bathrooms, and the drinks were priced ridiculously high. $7.00 for a Miller light????? For the price of the tickets, a discount on beverages would have been very welcome, and better selection of liquor would be appreciated. We have a great Rum distillery here in New Orleans, and I would have loved to see Old New Orleans Rum and Lucid Absinthe distilled by New Orleans own T. A. Breaux) offered The food however was very good. Next year I am going to buy the VIP tickets for the WWOZ VIP area instead.

By far one of the best festivals I've ever been to. There is so much to do aside from enjoy the line ups, the Zombie dancing, the marching bands, the face painting, too much to list! Voodoo Experience was very well done. The music acts were all great and 99% started right on time (George Clinton needs to buy a watch). The food was good and we didn't have to wait in line much for anything. I wish they would have done more to control the wet muddy areas though.

Except for the muddy shoes we had a Blast. (Maybe a plywood side walk next year). All band were great and I had never heard of "Mute Math" before but I AM a new fan They ROCK! I am a longtime KISS fan and we did get to meet them and have them sign autographs before their Blowout show! So we will be back! Please get the PLYWOOD sidewalk so we wont be known around New Orleans as hey you went to VooDoo Fest because we see you have festival shoes. Voodoo Fest was great. While there weren't a ton of current mainstream acts, that was reflected in the ticket price. But there seemed to be something for everyone at each timeslot. And what Voodoo Fest has that other festivals don't is Borboun St., cajun food, Halloween, and a bunch of awesome bands that you would never see (or even hear of) anywhere else - all putting on great live shows. I will surely go back. I felt at home the entire time.
