To quote Saving Silverman: "Rhett Miller is the greatest singer/song writer of this or any generation". I planned a family vaca to see family in NY around this concert weekend (from chicago). Only gave it 4 stars because the Serial Lady Killers (which I guess were called The Believers...) are just not as fun as the Old 97s.

How do you describe audio bliss? Rhett Miller! He is always entertaining. Joe Purdy was great too!

Rhett was awesome! I loved the mix between his solo songs and those of The Old 97's. It amazes me how many songs he has the ability to play by memory. I liked the fact that there were chairs because it helped save my feet, but it did make the crowd a little less energetic perhaps. Not me though, my sister and I were singing and dancing in our chairs. Rhett should come back every year. I never get tired of seeing him perform!

Good performer and very personable. Interacted with the crowd and explained how the songs originated. Certainly recommend!

My husband and I were not familiar with these performers. We were on vacation and decided this sounded like a cool concert at a cool venue. We were not disappointed! We were exhausted from our trip to NYC the previous day so we were prepared to leave the concert if we decided sleep would be better. We stayed for the entire show because it was so good and we didn't want to miss any of it. My husband commented on how talented the guitarist is. Everyone was great including the opening act!

Dude threw down more than 30 songs in more than two hours, including a bunch of Old 97's tunes, some solo acoustic stuff, some covers and some with a guest singer from the opening band. Staff at Brighton Music Hall was great, as usual. Beers were fair price, as usual, and we got updates on the Celtics game :( from the stage. Thumbs up all around.

Rhett kicked ass as usual! High energy, great songs, intimate venue - everything a Stewart Ransom Miller II fan could ask for and more. After he puts on a fantastic show he sticks around to chat, take pictures, and sign autographs. He has wonderful rapport with his audience and gamely launches into requests that are sometimes, in my opinion not so nicely shouted at him while he is trying to speak. I would stand in line again to see him, anytime, anyplace. Thanks for coming to St. Louis, Rhett!

Rhett Miller put on a fantastic show, playing favorites for the crowd not only from his solo work, but also from his band, Old 97s. So many performers put on a great show, and the Duck Room is famous for hosting such acts. Miller takes it to another level, interacting with the crowd, taking requests, playing and singing impeccably, but most of all, making the crowd feel like he's playing to a roomful of friends. His connection with his fans is both admirable and very sincere. Clearly, through many years of both fronting his band and playing out solo, he still enjoys what he does and it showed throughout the entire evening. In addition to his performance, Miller also took the time after the show to take pictures with fans, sign autographs, and generally just hang out with folks. This despite the fact that he had a show in another state the next night. All in all, a wonderful evening. Trest yourself and see Miller and/or the Old 97s the next time they come to the Lou.

Rhett Miller was great and entertaining, even tough it seemed like he rushed through some of his old songs. His opening act was boring. I think I rather see him with the Old 97's.

Rhett Miller is amazing live. He interacted with his fans during, and after the show. His set was all acoustic, which made the event more intimate than having a band behind him. And he had a mix of fans. From 10 to 70, everyone enjoyed this event. And Rhett taking hours after his show to meet with people, he kept the fans at this show for life. I would recommend seeing Rhett Miller 1000 times over!

Excellent solo performance. Once again, Rhett went the extra mile to provide his audience with a show that felt like an intimate gathering of friends and family. His set list was a excellent blend of his well recognized songs as well as new tracks and old favorites of the devoted fan. A must see performer who really cares about his craft and his audience.

Rhett Miller took stage at the Duck Room and captured the audience like no other artist I know. The loud-talkers shut up immediately and respectfully listened and sang along to their favorites. By the third song, the sweat was flying. Rhett Miller is probably one of the hardest working guys out there when he gets on stage. There wasn't a moment when his energy level dropped, or his appreciation of the audience waned. He surveyed and joked with the crowd really making his performance a personal experience. His set list included a wide range of Old 97's material and his solo work. He balanced the old with the new, and even provided a couple songs on request. Afterwards, he even hung around and chatted with everyone. What a great guy. He said he'd be back and would be brining the Old 97's with him soon. I'll be there.

Rhett Miller is an amazing musician, singer, and story-teller. He is witty with his comments between songs and just sings the heck out of them. He is drenched by the end of the performance and yet still takes the opportunity to change (thank goodness) and take pictures with fans after his shows. I've seen him acoustic and with a band to back him up and either way, he does not disappoint! If you don't know him, get familiar with his solo stuff or with the Old 97's. His voice is amazing and should be heard!!!

The show was amazing. The two opening bands Tim Whalen and Leslie and the Badgers were really good. Rhett played his heart out and entertained the crowd with Old 97's songs and some of his solo stuff. LOVE HIM!!!!

I was very impressed by both the venue and the act. I was familiar with the old 97's and expected Rhett to be really different but half the songs were Old 97 songs so it was a pleasant surprise. His backup band was phenomonal; I even preffered the guitarist.

What a fantastic show! I didn't know exactly what to expect since I have never seen Rhett truly solo but he was just awesome. (No back up at all, just Rhett, his guitars and a mic on a stage.) Funny, joking and telling stories and of course singing his heart out like always. This set up at EJ Thomas was really nice too - very cozy setting. At the end of the show he walked past several tables, including the one I was sitting at, and was shaking hands as he walked past. I was wearing my Rhett Miller t-shirt and he noticed as he was shaking my hand and said "nice t-shirt".

Rhett Miller continues to be one of the absolute finest live performers in the country. He has boundless energy, and while he is a seriously good musician and songwriter, I have never seen anyone have more fun while they perform. When his set is over, you will say WOW. I HIGHLY recommend seeing him whether it is with the Old 97's, his second band - the Serial Lady Killers, or his solo gigs. The fact that you can still see him at modest sized venues is remarkable too...

With his signature flair for high energy, alt country entertaining, Rhett and his 360 degree strum had the crowd bouncing and buzzing from the moment he hit the stage. In a venue the size of the Black Cat, it's easy to believe he's taking every cue right from the crowd - set list be damned. He has rapport, he has stage presence and the Serial Lady Killers nee Believers do him damn proud. He neglected to serenade us with his wee French interlude in Question, despite shout-outs from the crowd, but he revved us up with The El, teased and brought the house to frenzy with Barrier Reef...lulled us to deep, sensitive thought with World Inside the World, re-lit the frantic fire with a raucous rendition of Rollerskate Skinny and brought down the lights on Our Love. A pitch-perfect balance of Instigator, Believer, new solo and classic Old 97's. I'm still bouncing in my Chucks just reliving...

The Sept 17 Rhett Miller show at the Black Cat in DC was fantastic. He brought the high- energy pop like he always does. Mixed an even number of Old 97s songs with songs from his 3 solo projects. He was in fine voice and fine spirits. He always reminds me of Springsteen in how much he really seems to love being on that stage singing us his songs for us. Never "phoning it in" like some bands do. Still looks like he's 27...will this man ever get old? Brought my 17 year old son to see the man behind the great pop love songs. The boy was impressed...not easy to do. Rhett you keep coming back and I'll keep showing up! I'd give him 5 stars, but I'm reserving that for the never-gonna-happen Beatles reunion :)

The show was awesome, but not as good as his stop at the Black Cat a year or so back, when it was just Rhett and his acoustic guitar on the stage. You couldn't hear the words as well, and Rhett's stage presence was dimished by the band.

the charming and chatty Rhett came out for a lively interview.....gave us all some background and insights and always kept us laughing. THEN he picked up the guitar and ya know what ? This boy is INCAPABLE of slacking off. He always puts 150 % into his music, no matter who's listening. That's what I admire. Those artists who are Born to Do What They Do. Rhett could not do anything else. He needs to compose, write, sing, play, perform and entertain, n'est_ce pas ? I've seen RHETT now at I think at least six L.A. venues and I think he should just move back to California and BE like, our local Mascot !

Great opportunity to see Rhett in a very small setting, with Q&A between the interview and the performance.
